    Police arrest two armed robbers in military uniforms in Nasarawa

    Police operatives in Nasarawa state have arrested two suspected armed robbers terrorising parts of the Ekye Development Area in Doma LGA of the state.

    The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ramhan Nansel, in a statement on Friday, February 23, identified the suspects as Abdullahi Basso and Saidu Isah.

    He said the command received complaints of weekly armed robberies on Thursday nights by persons clad in military uniforms along Doma-Rukubi Road in the Eye community.

    According to the statement, “Consequently, on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at about 1800hrs, police operatives attached to Ekye Division laid a successful ambush on the criminals at Kwanar Kare; a dangerous spot along

    Doma-Rukubi Road where armed robbers usually block the road and rob unsuspecting road users.

    The duo of Abdullahi Basso and Saidu Isah both males of Rugan Maigari, Rukubi village dressed in military uniforms were arrested at the scene while about to carry out their operation, and the sum of three hundred thousand Naira cash (#300,000), a knife and other items were recovered from them as exhibits.

    The suspects confessed to having attacked one Mallam Barka at the same spot last week where they dispossessed him of the sum of five hundred thousand Naira (#500,000).”

    Nigerian Army nabs 12 fake soldiers in Lagos,Ogun state

    The Nigerian Army (NA) in its operation checkmate routine has arrested 12 persons fully kitted in the military uniforms.

    The 81 Division Military Police Personnel apprehended the fake soldiers during operation Checkmate in Lagos and Ogun States.

    General officer commanding 81 Division, Major General Umar Thama Musa mentioned that many heinous crimes are being committed by these unattached soldiers.

    Acting Deputy Director 81 Division Army Public Relations, Major Olaniyi Joseph Osoba announced their arrest .

    General Musa explained that some persons disguise as soldiers by donning the uniform, saying not everyone wearing or displaying the military banners, accoutrement are Army personnel.

    The GOC made it clear that more than 150 impostors were caught from January 2021 till date.

    Some mounted roadblocks along Ajah road to extort money from motorists and indulge in other illegal duties.

    Another set were nabbed along the Ilaro border of Ogun while smuggling bags of rice and other contrabands items into the country.

    He added that the arrested persons will be handed over to the police for further investigation and subsequent prosecution.

    The Army urged civilians in the country to stop wearing military uniforms,T-shirts, or display banners, belts ,stickers and even items believed to belong to the Military.

    Musa advised members of the public to report anyone parading himself to be a soldiers when he is not for interrogation and prosecution.

    Don’t use military uniforms – DHQ warns Nigerians

    The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has warned against wearing military uniforms and accoutrements for electioneering campaign posters by some politicians and other unauthorised persons.

    The Acting Director, Defence Information, Air Commodore Wap Maigida, gave the warning in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

    Maigida said that the campaign posters of some governors, dressed in military camouflage uniforms, were displayed in noticeable areas in their respective states.

    He said the act was manifestly illegal and an abuse of the privilege of allowing civilians wear military uniforms during military training exercises.

    According to him, it is necessary to restate that the Armed Forces of Nigeria, as a professional institution, remains apolitical and, as such, will not want to be dragged into any form of political bias.

    “Accordingly, it is important to advise politicians and others to desist from the use of military uniforms and accoutrements for political events and other engagements henceforth.

    “Please note, anyone found culpable in this regard would be liable to prosecution,” he warned.

    Police recover Cameroonian flag, military uniforms from criminals in Adamawa

    The Police Command in Adamawa has confirmed the recovery of Cameroonian national flag and nine Military camouflage uniforms at Lamunde Hill in Gumti National Park in Toungo Local Government Area of state.
    TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that Lamunde hill is part of Gashaka-Gumti National Park located along the Nigeria-Cameroon border.
    Mr Aliyu Adamu, the Commissioner of police in the state, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Monday in Yola.
    Adamu said: “On the 19/3/2021, the Command disconnected criminal networks terrorising communities along Nigeria-Cameroon border and Southern part of Adamawa state in general.
    “The operation was carried out by Toungo Police Division and the Special Hunters of Pulaaku Association at Lamunde Hill situated at Gumti National Park in Toungo Local Government Area.
    “During the operation, a total of nine military Camouflage uniform of Cameroon rebels, Cameroon national flag and one motorcycle, among other items were recovered.”
    He explained that the joined operation chased the suspected criminals into their hideout in a gun fire exchange.
    The police commissioner said that the suspected criminals escaped with gunshot wounds into Cameroon after exchange of gunfire.
    “We are advancing to make sure that the suspects are apprehended,” Adamu assured.
    The poluce commissioner noted that the successes followed a credible information from good citizens after rampant cases of kidnapping, armed robbery and banditry in the areas.
    He commended the Toungo Divisional Police Officer and his gallant officers for a well-done job.
    He assured the good people of Toungo and Adamawa as a whole of the command’s commitment to keeping the state safe.
  • How Customs intercepted container load of military uniforms, other items — Official

    The Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr Joseph Attah, said the Service seized a container load of military uniforms and other items on Friday along Aba- Port Harcourt road.

    Attah, who said this in a statement on Friday in Abuja, noted that examination of the container was conducted in the presence of the owner’s representative.

    The roving team of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone C, have seized a container with registration number MRSU 3040288 found to carry military uniforms and other items along Aba- Port Harcourt road.

    The container was taken to owerri where proper examination in the presence of the representative of the owner revealed the followings, 11 bales containing new sets of sawn military camouflage.

    Each bale contain 400 pairs of sawn military camouflage, 15 cartons containing Altama combat boots each carton contains 20 pairs and some sacks of made up garments.

    Seven Wooden furniture kitchen cabinets, 337 packs of new foreign tiles made in China, 27 medical equipment made in China, 34 rolls of water hose made in China and some household items,” Attah said.

    According to him, the Comptroller in charge of FOU, Zone C, Ahmed Azarema, said the owner’s representative had been detained.

    Attah said investigation to unravel all those connected to the crime had already commenced. (NAN)
