Asaba accord: Miyetti Allah asks Fulani herders to leave Southern states

The Bauchi State Chapter of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), has urged its members to vacate the 17 southern states, where governors have decided to ban open grazing.

MACBAN Chairman, Sadiq Ibrahim Ahmed, said: “This is a simple calculation. We are heading for secession. The rulers are no longer interested in the people. If some people are banned from open grazing, there is nothing more. Fulani people should move out from there. It is very simple.

“Must we transport the cattle there? I have said it before. We have an option of breeding our cattle here (North). We are peace lovers. Let them come and buy from us. It is some people’s fault.

“Criminality started in the South. Armed robbery, kidnapping. all started in the South. We have been watching these on television. And if these are being transited to the North, and you know we have a government that is not protecting the Constitution of the nation. Everyone takes laws into his hands.

“The Southern governors can do that. There is no problem, let them do what they want. If the Northern governors feel like, they can also do it too (banning open grazing)…”

Sadiq charged southern governors to face criminal groups in the South and leave Fulani herders alone.

He said: “The President is there as a figurehead. He doesn’t know what he’s doing. He is not controlling anybody. In our country now, everyone does what he feels like. The country is already moving apart. Where is the central government, if some governors can meet and take decisions that are against the Constitution…?”
Sadiq said the solution to Nigeria’s security challenge is for the “President to step aside or for Nigerians to put heads together and elect a credible president in 2023, a leader with focus and competence. Nigeria should get a leader with a good example, who is ready to sacrifice his life for his subjects.”

Miyetti Allah: We will avenge killings of every Fulani man by Nnamdi Kanu’s IPOB

The umbrella bodies of herdsmen in Nigeria, the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, has vowed to avenge the killings of Fulani herders in the South-East.

Spokesman for the group, Saleh Alhassan, disclosed this while reacting to the killing of one of the commanders of Indigenous People of Biafra gunned down by security operatives last Saturday.

Police operatives and their counterparts from the Nigerian Army and Department of State Services had killed an IPOB leader, one Commander Ikonso and six other militia members in Imo state.

The IPOB men, who were members of the secessionist group’s security arm, the Eastern Security Network, were killed during an early morning raid on their hideout at Awomama village, Oru East Local Government Area of the state last week.

IPOB has since threatened “madness”, saying the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, will “pay dearly” for the killing of its commander.

But speaking on Thursday to Punch, the Miyetti Allah spokesman lauded the security agencies, adding that they should “intensify efforts” in dealing with all terrorist elements in the country.

He said, “The security agencies should intensify efforts in dealing with all those terrorists killing Fulani herders, burning police stations, prisons and destroying institutions in the South-East.”

Alhassan said at least 50 herders have been killed in the South-East in the last one month, adding that his group would avenge the death of those members.

He said, “So far, more than 50 herders have been killed in the South-East in the last one month, we have the record and the Igbo terrorists led by Nnamdi Kanu will pay for everybody they killed.

“It is unfortunate that they have forgotten history, how we saved a lot of Igbos in the North during the Civil War but now they are killing our people. They are making a grievous mistake. We will take necessary steps, both legal and cultural steps, to avenge the killings of our members.”

Herdsmen/farmers’ clashes: Give us ranches, we’re tired of open grazing – Miyetti Allah tells Ondo Government

Miyetti Allah Breeders Association of Nigeria says it is tired of open grazing in Ondo State, calling on government to make provision for ranches as a way of putting an end to frequent herdsmen/farmers’ crises.

The Chairman of the association in the state, Alhaji Bello Garba, stated this on Wednesday in Akure.

Garba was speaking during a public hearing on a bill to regulate rearing and grazing of livestock and provide for the establishment of ranches and other related matters.

He said that the association would support any peaceful move to address the issue in the state, adding that farmers and herdsmen must carry out their respective activities without clashing.

According to him, the association has been begging the state government to register Fulani men in all the local government areaa of the state.

Similarly, Mr Ibrahim Abdul-Rahman, the Assistant Secretary of the association in the state, explained that open grazing had become obsolete and needed to be banned.

Abdul-Rahman asked all stakeholders to embrace modern cattle rearing technique, saying that farmers and herders must allow peace to reign, considering the importance of both parties to nation’s growth.

Applauding the move, Mr Gbenga Obaweya, the Chairman of Ondo State Agricultural Commodities Association (OSACA), said that it was a step in the right direction, adding that a foundation had been laid upon which other processes would be.

Obaweya noted that the body language of the state government showed that it was ready to protect agriculture and agricultural practices and put an end to the lingering clashes between farmers and herdsmen.

Declaring the public hearing open, Speaker of the Assembly, Mr Bamidele Oloyelogun, said that it was aimed at enhancing peaceful existence in the state.

Oloyelogun added that if similar moved had been made in the past, it would have been a different story today.

“It is for peace to reign in our state. This record will go a long way, having effects even on the children yet unborn.

“Your memoranda and suggestions will be welcome. Please, feel free to air your views and bare your minds, but we must be objective and constructive,” he said.

The speaker said that the bill, when passed into law, would prevent arson and frequent clashes between farmers and herdsmen.

Oloyelogun explained that grazing would be regulated with provision of modern techniques in animal husbandry.

He enjoined participants to shun sentiments and stop abusing one another, saying, “We are all one.”

In his remarks, the Chairman, House Committee on Agriculture, Mr Taofik Mohammed, said that the importance of the bill could not be over-emphasised, hence the need for the hearing.

Mohammed noted that one of the cardinal roles of the bill was to achieve virile and peaceful atmosphere in the state.

He added that the bill was attached to human survival, considering the frequent fracas between farmers and herdsmen, which had resulted in loss of lives and property in the state.

The lawmaker said it was regrettable that some criminally-minded people had been hiding under the feuds between farmers and herdsmen to wreak havoc on innocent citizens, saying that this had brought uneasy calm and perpetual fear in virtually every quarter.

The chairman explained that the effects of the lingering misunderstanding between farmers and herders had grave effects on the economy, growth and development of the state.

“It is obvious that GDP will adversely drop whenever food and animal production is hampered,” he said.

Mohammed stated that the bill would address causes of the crises and proffer solutions, urging participants to take full advantage of the hearing and make invaluable suggestions.

Also reacting, Mr Akin Olotu, Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture, said that the bill was for justice and fairness.

Olotu noted that the bill, if passed into law, would allow farmers and herders to do their work legitimately.

“The bill is not meant to persecute anybody. If you recollect, Mr Governor sometimes ago asked illegal occupants to leave our forests.

“This is not pointing at any ethnic group. For every person, you are free to operate in the state, irrespective of your ethnic affiliation,” he said.

The governor’s aide noted that the bill would address slaughtering of cows and provide designated locations in each council area.

Dr Akinwumi Gideon, the state Commandant of Vigilante Group of Nigeria, described the bill and the public hearing as commendable.

Gideon said that the bill, if passed, would bring an end to the existing rancour between farmers and herdsmen.

He promised that the group would deploy, at least, 800 personnel for enforcement, when the bill eventually became law.

Oba Yusuf Adeleye, the Olubaka of Oka, said that there was no way to manage open grazing with agriculture in modern society.

Oba Adeleye, who applauded the public hearing, stated that the gathering was meant for the peace of the state, adding “We are to make headway because we disagree to agree”.

Oba Joseph Adebobola, the Asaru of Isaru in Ifedore Local Government Area of the state, noted that if the past government had taken such a step, there would not have been any record of crisis between farmers and herders.

Declare Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders a terrorist organization – Group tells FG

The Federal Government has been urged to declare the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria a terrorist group.

A group, the Igbo National Council (INC), made the demand during a summit held in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

INC President, Chilos Godsent also asked Nigerians to stop buying and eating cow meats grown by the Fulani herdsmen.

The activist said the call for Nigerians to stop buying and eating cow meats is a ” minimum measure of economic sanctions against the killer Herdsmen.’

He scowled at the present Nigeria political system which, according to him, has failed to favour the Igbo race.

“The Igbo Nation is in a pathetic situation in a country she has contributed to more than others.

“We say NO to the wanton and reckless destruction of properties and killing of Igbos and Nigerians by the rampaging Fulani Jihadists Herdsmen and Bandits.

“We demand the immediate review and overhaul of the Nigeria Security Architecture for efficient service delivery.

“We charge all Nigerians to boycott the buying and eating of cow meat as a minimum measure of economic sanctions against the killer Jihadist Herdsmen.

“Finally, we strongly demand that the Federal Government of Nigeria declare the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), a terrorist group for their open and brazen support and participation in terrorism in Nigeria through the Jihadist Killer Herdsmen.”

  • Miyetti Allah reacts to Obiano’s declaration of AK-47 carrying herdsmen as criminals

Miyetti Allah reacts to Obiano’s declaration of AK-47 carrying herdsmen as criminals

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), has backed Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano for tagging herdsmen with AK 47 as criminals.

TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that Obiano on Tuesday, at the Prof Dora Akunyili Women’s development Center in Awka, said such persons would not be allowed into Anambra State again.

The Governor reacted after the traditional rulers had complained to the Inspector General of Police, Abubakar Adamu about how herdsmen had taken over their farmlands carrying AK 47, while the women were being raped at random.

Obiano immediately ordered that itinerant herdsmen who carry AK 47 guns should be treated as criminals in Anambra State after the head count his administration was planning on them.

However, reacting Thursday, the Chairman of Miyetti Allah in the Southeast, Alhaji Gidado Sidikki, first, debunked the claim that the group had hands in the food blockade to southern Nigeria from the North.

While speaking with reporters in Awka, Sidikki said Obiano’s action was in line with the already established agreement between the South East governors and MACBAN that any herder found in possession of gun should be treated as criminal.

He said that the leadership of Miyetti Allah in the South East zone under his watch always screen any Cattle herder that came into the region before he was allowed to graze.

According to him, “My members have been having a good relationship with their host communities, despite some isolated cases of misunderstanding, which he said, was normal in every human existence.

“Our interest in the zone was purely economic; no herder is interested in contesting the ownership of land with members of their host communities”

He therefore, appealed to the host communities not to use the order as an opportunity to kill and destroy properties of law abiding Fulani herdsmen living in the region.

Speaking further on the ban on foods items from the North to South, Sidikki said, it was the work of Amalgamated Union of Food and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria, not Miyetti Allah

He said the union had earlier wrote a letter informing Miyetti Allah that it would embark on a protest to demonstrate the incessant killings and destruction of its member’s properties in various part of the country.

“So, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, as a body, has no hand in the blockade of food stuff from North to Southern Nigeria,” he stated.
