Mi-Yetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has condemned and distance itself from the killing of Mrs Funke Olakunrin, daughter of the leader of Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti.
A statement issued by Mr Baba Ngelzarma, the National Secretary of the association on Saturday in Abuja, said MACBAN commiserated with Fasoranti on the death of his daughter.
He said the deceased was reportedly shot on Friday along the Kajola-Ore road in Ondo State by those the police described as armed robbers.
Ngelzarma said “the association expresses our sincere heartfelt condolence to the family of the deceased”.
He added that the association was shocked on how a section of the media in collaboration with elements in the country is using the opportunity to fuel crisis in Nigeria.
He regretted that these elements continue a negative profiling of Fulanis for their total annihilation by jumping into a mischievous conclusion that she was killed by herdsmen.
“We strongly condemn this very unprofessional, unpatriotic and callous news reportage patterns that have been employed and deployed against our people by the section of the media.
“We are calling on security agencies to swing into action and unravel the perpetrators to bring them to justice in the shortest possible time,’’ the scribe said.

Miyetti Allah denies lobbying for RUGA, says 'We can settle in Sambisa Forest'
The National President of Miyetti Allah Kautel Hore socio-cultural organization, Alhaji Abdullahi Bodejo, has said that the Fulani herders can relocate to Sambisa forest.
Bodejo insisted that the facilities for carrying out their cattle business must be provided.
He also said that they never requested for RUGA settlement in the first place, adding that the Fulani already have their RUGA.
“Whether Sambisa or anywhere, the Fulani can stay. The Fulani people do not fear Sambisa or any forest,” he told The Sun.
“The Fulani are ready to stay anywhere there is bush but number one is that there must be water which their cows can drink and there must be grasses for their cows to eat. If Sambisa has all those facilities, you do not need to introduce it to the Fulani; they would go there and herd their cows.
“If you see any place where the Fulani do not go to, it is because such a place does not have water and grasses for the grazing of their cows. All the places like Enugu, Benue and Taraba, if Fulani don’t go there to fertilize their land, nobody will go there to farm.
“The Fulani have settled in many places including the Federal Capital Territory before the farmers came there. So, if the Federal Government could introduce the Fulani to the Sambisa forest, we are ready to go there. I will be the number one person who will go there.
“Nobody requested for RUGA settlement in the first place. The Fulani already have their RUGA. What is the meaning of RUGA?
“Is it not a place where you have the Fulani houses? So, we already have Ruga but I do not know why all the confusion about all the issues concerning the Fulani in this country.
“This is because we have grazing reserve areas and people are not talking about it. They initially talked about the cattle colony and from there, they now started talking about RUGA.
“They said they wanted to settle the Fulani in one place but did anybody tell them what they wanted to do? Nobody had any meeting with them on the issue of RUGA but I noticed that there are now desperate people who claim to be Fulani leaders by all means.
“You can imagine, for instance, a Fulani man who has about 300 cows and nobody told him that they want to settle him in one place and suddenly, you started hearing about RUGA on the TV, radio and social media.
“See how innocent Fulani people are being chased away in the South East, South South and other places as if they are not Nigerians. What caused these things is the issue of RUGA but the Fulani being chased away do not even know about the RUGA policy. Even we the Fulani leaders did not know about the RuGA policy.
“We did not know any plan for that by the Federal Government or the Ministry of Agriculture. I have cows for instance and they are staying in RUGA but we have a problem with the cattle routes.
“If they are serious, let them come and discuss with the real Fulani leaders and not those who claim to be Fulani leaders and they go behind to collect bribe and speak for our people. How do you think you can settle the Fulani in one place?
“How many factories from the cow value chain do we have in this country now? If you say you want to put the Fulani in one RUGA settlement, how can you put for instance about 10,000 cows in one place? Do you want to kill the cows?” -
OPC, Miyetti Allah group hold peace meeting
The Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) and the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBN) held a meeting in Osogbo on Tuesday to fashion out ways of ensuring peaceful coexistence and improved security in Osun.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting was apparently necessitated by the worsening security situation in Osun, where herdsmen have been on rampage in recent times, abducting and killing people on highways in the state.
Speaking at the meeting, Alhaji Leke Akintayo, the leader of the OPC in Osun, said the group was worried over the spate of abductions and other criminal activities in the state, blamed on herdsmen.
Akintayo said the OPC was ready to collaborate with security agencies to tackle the security challenges plaguing Osun in recent times.
He, subsequently, issued a seven-day ultimatum to leaders of MACBAN to fish out bad eggs among them in the interest of peace in the state.
Akintayo, who noted that the goal of the OPC since it was founded in 1998 was to protect lives and property, warned herdsmen perpetrating crimes to vacate the state or be ready to face the wrath of the law.
“We called for this peace meeting to find lasting solutions to the issue of security breakdown such as kidnapping, armed robbery and all sort of criminal activities in the state.
“Over the years, Osun State has been adjudged the most peaceful state in Nigeria until recently when criminals invaded our land and started kidnapping our people.
“We will use everything within our reach to ensure that the bad eggs among the Fulanis are flushed out of the state.
“We are law-abiding group. We are working in collaboration with the police, DSS, Civil Defence and other paramilitary groups to make sure we curb the menace of insecurity in our state.
“We want to sound a note of warning to these criminals to desist from terrorising our people.
“There is need for the good among the herdsmen to fish out the bad eggs among them within seven days in the interest of peace,’’ Akintayo stated.
The Chairman of the Osun State Branch of MACBAN, Alhaji Abdulahi Alilu, pledged to give maximum support to the OPC and other security agencies to curb insecurity in the state.
Represented by one Seriki Soliu, a member of the association, Alilu said that cattle breeders were also victims of kidnapping.
He promised to work closely with the OPC to ensure that criminals were brought to book.
Mr Muhammad Adam, the spokesman of Gan Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria also known as Fulani Intelligence Squad, assured that the group would work closely with the OPC to foster security in Osun.

Miyetti Allah speaks on recent killings in Kaduna
The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has called on all affected Fulanis to remain calm and resist all forms of provocation to consider reprisal attacks over the killings in Kajuru local government of Kaduna State last week.
Also, Kaduna State PDP gubernatorial candidate, Isa Mohammed Ashiru, called on relevant security agencies to prosecute criminals who carried out the killings.
MACBAN and Ashiru, in their separate reactions on Monday, commended Governor Malam Nasir el-Rufai for being proactive in ensuring the situation was brought under control and prevent any form of reprisal attack in the troubled area.
The Assistant Women Leader MACBAN, Hajiya Khadijah Ardido, told reporters it was unfortunate and most painful that people were killed with reckless abandon, including women and children.
She lamented the killings were being denied by people who have no human feelings.
“As I speak to you now, some of the injured victims are still in the hospital. It is painful that Fulanis are being killed not only in Kaduna state but in several other parts of the country and little or nothing is being done about it.
“The government must rise to this challenge and stop all forms of unwarranted killings, there must be respect for human lives,” she stressed.
She went on: “Our people have always been very patient and tolerant and I am still encouraging them to remain patient, disciplined and tolerant in the face of any provocation.
“As a mother, I am calling on my people not to revolt. Those killing should know that they are doing the wrong thing, particularly killing innocent women and children.
“The government should ensure that proper investigation is carried out and whoever is found guilty should be made to face the full wrath of the law, at least to serve as deterrent to others now and in the future.
“Justice must be done to the affected in the killings and the step taken by Governor Nasir el-Rufai towards bringing to justice all those who have hands in the killing is a commendable one”
Ashiru said the incident was not only an unwanted addition to the list of the past similar ones but clear indication that insecurity still remains a huge challenge in some parts of Kaduna State.
According to him: “It is with an absolute shock that I received the news broken by the Kaduna State Governor, of the murder of many people in some settlements in Kajuru Local Government Area of our dear Kaduna State.
“The fact that the loss of human lives has been confirmed makes the whole issue terribly shocking. The act clearly smacks of callousness and a descent into barbarism.
“I, therefore, wish to express my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, people of Kajuru Local Government Area as well as the Government and the entire people of Kaduna State over this unfortunate incident.
“It is my fervent prayer that almighty who God created those souls will expose the perpetrators of the heinous act.”
He added: “Let me quickly remind my dear good people of Kaduna State of the need to embrace peace and eschew violence so that the diversity with which Almighty God has endowed us can be harnessed for the good of all of us.
“Our State is big, bountiful and rich enough to accommodate all of us; all we need to do is to continuously remind ourselves of the fact that resort to violence has never benefitted us as a people. In fact, such an act which results in the loss of human lives diminishes us as a people.
“We should therefore endeavour to come together, regardless of political, religious or ethnic differences, to let the world know that we are committed to ridding our state of violence and at the same time willing to live as the true brothers and sisters that we have always been.
“While I once again condole with the bereaved families, I also wish to re-assure everyone again that my bid to clinch the governorship of Kaduna State is driven by both an immense concern for our people and a total determination to rescue the State from misrule.“

2019: We’ll vote candidates with best deal for us – Miyetti Allah
Members of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Fulani Socio-cultural Association have promised to encourage their people to only vote for whom they believe will negotiate the best deal for herders in the country.
The group promised to fight against the anti-open grazing law enacted by the government of Benue, complained of extra-judicial killings and harassments being meted out on them by security and paramilitary agencies.
National President Miyetti Allah, Alh. Abdullahi Bodejo said that the enactment of the law is the most wicked act any government can do to the economic interest of Fulani pastorialists.
He said that most of their members have fled their homes and now become refugees in neighboring states of Nasarawa and Taraba.
Speaking in Abuja at the end of the national delegates meeting of the association, he said that his people unanimously condemn and reject the repressive and oppressive law.
His words, ” Delegates view the continuous policies of segregation by some state governors seeking to criminalise the economic livelihoods of Pastoralists through the enactment of obnoxious laws ’Anti-open Grazing Law’ as the most wicked act any government can do to the economic interest of Fulani Pastoralists and unanimously condemned and totally reject the repressive and oppressive laws.
“Consequently, delegates affirmed their support and solidarity for the legal action instituted by the National Leadership to challenge the negative and segregatory Benue anti-grazing law at the Federal High Court Abuja.
“The situation in Benue as it stands today, our members are totally displaced from their traditional place of earning their livelihoods, we have over three hundred Fulani youths that are in jail because of the law that we are still challenging in court.
“Our people experience extra-judicial killings by security and paramilitary agencies, harassment, intimidation of herders seen around Benue, which is why we are calling on the abolition of that law.
“As it stands today in Benue, our members are refugees in neighboring states of Nasarawa and Taraba states and we are hoping that something is done to ameliorate the pitiable situation they find themselves.
“The Benue issue remains the most vexed issue to pastoralists in Nigeria and the whole of West African sub region because it is a policy that is aimed at destroying pastoralism, which is a means of to millions of pastoralists across sub-Saharan Africa.
“As for 2019 elections, we are weighing what the two candidates will bring on the table, what they have for the pastoralists that are facing numerous challenges across the country and when we finish our assessment, we will invite the whole world to know our stance but for now, we are asking our members to be ready with their PVC’s and await where we can negotiate the best deal for them particularly on the issue of their economic livelihood because any candidate we support must come out clean on what future plans he has for livestock development in this country and his agenda for farmers and herders in this country, It’s not just the two candidates that are contesting, we have over ninety political parties contesting, it will be unfair to narrow down to two perceived parties.”
National Secretary of the association revealed that herders in Kogi are dying of a disease they believe to be gastrointestinal, where patients bleed till they die.
His word “Other problems facing pastoralists is that in Kogi state, there has been an outbreak of a viral disease that have been killing our members in the villages and up till now the centre for disease control or ministry of health is yet to investigate it, this should be investigated before it becomes a national disaster. It is around Dikina and Ayimgba there is an outbreak of a gastro intestinal disease where patients bleed before they die.”

Miyetti Allah warns security agencies, civilians against attacking ‘Malian herders’ in Sokoto
The Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore has warned security agencies and civilians against attacking Malian herders grazing their cattle in Gudu and Tangaza Local Government Areas of Sokoto State.
The social media had been filled with reports of the invasion of Gudu and Tangaza in Sokoto State by some bandits on Friday.
But the state police command had debunked the claim, saying the invaders were not bandits, but herdsmen from Mali “who reside in a forest in Niger Republic, sharing a border with Gudu and Tangaza Local Government Areas of the state.”
Speaking in an interview on Monday, the Secretary-General of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Mr Alhassan Saleh, said the Malian herders’ presence in the country was nothing to worry about, as they were only grazing their cattle, a tradition he said they had been performing annually for the past 100 years.
“Those people are not bandits; they are covered by the ECOWAS Protocol on Trans Human Movement to move across borders to graze their cattle. They have been doing that for over 100 years. They come during the dry season and leave later,” he said.
The said protocol allows ECOWAS member countries’ citizens to have the right to enter, reside and establish in the territory of member countries.
Article 3 of the protocol, however, states that any ECOWAS citizen who wishes to enter the territory of any other member country shall be required to possess a valid travel document and international health certificate.
Saleh said the government and security agencies ought to sensitise Nigerians on the protocol in order to avert any trouble.
He said, “It’s because we are so sensitive nowadays that anytime we see a large number of cows, we panic. I blame the government and security agencies for this. They ought to enlighten the people on the ECOWAS Protocol for better understanding.
“Those foreign herders are not bandits and I hope we will not attack them and then invite trouble. Nobody should attack them.
“Ideally, the Customs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, among other security agencies, should issue Trans Human Certificates to the foreign herders.”
Saleh said the security agencies ought to have collected important data, such as the number of herders coming into the country; the number of cattle they are bringing into the country; the health of the cows so as to know which one is diseased; how long the herders will stay here with their cattle; and when they will leave so that they can be tracked.
He said, “We are supposed to have cross-border security in place and deploy cattle tracking technology. Unfortunately, the government is not serious about livestock development in this country.
“They would promise to ranch today and cattle colony tomorrow, but nothing is happening. Maybe they want to eradicate pastoralism and give the business to capitalists.”
The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police, Moshood Jimoh, had also on Saturday said there were no bandits in Sokoto State, but herders from Mali.
“They come to the same area annually from Mali to Nigerian border areas in search of water for their cattle,” he had said.

Threat to Saraki: Miyetti Allah now a ruling party in Nigeria – Benue Government
The Benue State Government has described the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association as Nigeria’s new ruling party and decision maker.
The government said this in response to the call by the Coordinator of MACBAN in Benue State, Garus Gololo, that the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, should resign or be forced out of office.
In a statement by Terver Akase, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Samuel Ortom, the Benue State Government said there is no difference between the threat by Gololo and that of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, to Saraki.
The statement reads: “We find it strange that many hours after such inciting comments, the man who spoke on behalf of the group has not been invited by security operatives for questioning. The association asked the Senate President to resign or it will force him out of office. What an insult to democracy!
“It is becoming clear by the day that Miyetti Allah groups have not only assumed the position of the ruling party but are also influential to decisions of governance in this country.
“What constitutional right does the group have to spew invectives on the person and office of the Senate President without being arrested? Are security agencies sending a signal to
Nigerians that Miyetti Allah groups are above the law and therefore untouchable?
“This is not the first time that Miyetti Allah associations have made inflammatory statements. The other time, the groups held press conferences and threatened to unleash terror on Benue people.
“They made real their threats and came out to claim responsibility for the killing of over 500 innocent Benue people between January and this month. They followed their gory act with threats of more bloodshed in Benue till the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law is suspended.
“The Benue State Government wrote several petitions alerting the country’s security chiefs. Yet, nothing was done and to this day, no Miyetti Allah leader has been invited by security agencies for interrogation.
“The boldness and authoritative tone with which leaders of Miyetti Allah associations speak on affairs of the nation leave us wondering if the speculation is true, that they plan to turn Nigeria to a Cow Republic.
“Miyetti Allah and the All Progressives Congress, APC now sound like one association with similar objectives. Nigerians should compare the tone of APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole when he threatened that the party would force Senator Saraki out of office if he failed to resign and the latest threat by Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association to forcefully evict Senator Saraki from office. The words are similar, the motive the same and the agenda also one.
“What is the source of Miyetti Allah groups’ authority to make statements injurious to the very soul of this country that no one seems to be calling them to order?
“Who is behind the Miyetti Allah groups, and what is the person’s mission?
“We urge Nigerians to reject this attempt to turn the country into a republic where the life of a cow has greater value than that of a human being. This level of impunity is not healthy for the nation. For democracy to be successful, it must be anchored on the rule of law.
“On Miyetti Allah’s attacks against Governor Ortom in the same media report, we are no longer surprised as the groups have never hidden their obsession with the Governor’s name. No day passes without the said groups coming out with one publication or the other against the Governor.“The sad news for them is that Governor Ortom and Benue people won’t bow to intimidation and harassment from them or any other person. The Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law which they hate so much has come to stay and anyone who intends to breed livestock in Benue should be prepared to ranch the animals.”

PDP reacts to Miyetti Allah’s threats to force Saraki out of office
Nigeria’s main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday reacted to a statement credited to the coordinator of the Benue State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN), Garus Gololo threatening the Senate president, Bukola Saraki, to resign or be forced to do so.
The party charged President Muhammadu to promptly arrest Gololo within 24 hours.
Recall that Gololo had in an interview with The Punch threatened to forcefully eject the embattled Senate President if he doesn’t resign honourably.
“It is on this note that we are saying that Saraki ought not to be in office again as Senate President, more so, Saraki has failed to coordinate and organise the National Assembly to offer quality legislation that Nigerians need,” he was quoted as saying.
“Nigerians are in dire need of people that have the interest of the masses. Miyetti Allah is looking for a leader that would preside over the affairs of the Senate with ultimate respect for the executive and the judiciary, not someone like Senator Saraki that would always scheme to outdo the Presidency.
“We are now tired of Saraki’s style of leadership at the National Assembly. Therefore, we are now warning him to honourably resign his position as president of the Senate or we will force him out”, Gololo said, refusing, however, to explain how the association would remove the Senate president,” Punch quoted him as saying.
However, in a swift reaction, the PDP in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan called for the arrest of Gololo as his utterances can unnecessarily overheat the polity.
Recall that the national leadership of Miyetti Allah had also earlier dissociated itself from the threats while assuring that Gololo will be appropriate;y sanctioned.

PDP Gives Buhari 24 hours to Arrest Miyetti Allah Leaders
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) describes the outburst of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, echoing the threats by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and agents of the Buhari Presidency, to force out the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, from office, as ominous and revealing.
If anything, this unguarded statement by Miyetti Allah has exposed the synergy between the ruling party and some troublesome elements, who are being used to stoke division and create violent crisis that had resulted into daily bloodlettings in various parts of the country.
It is now abundantly clear to Nigerians that those fomenting crisis, including the bloody clashes in Benue, Taraba, Zamfara, Nassarawa, Plateau, Kaduna, Edo, Borno, Yobe, Enugu, Kogi, Adamawa and other states in our country, have political backers, who now want to channel them to achieve their unpatriotic quest to subvert our constitution and forcefully take over the National Assembly.
Before now, to majority of Nigerians, the Miyetti Allah has always represented the military wing of the APC and the Buhari Presidency. It is incontrovertible that they have now become the fourth arm of government that can determine when and how to forcefully remove the number three citizen, the President of the Senate.
It is common knowledge that Mr. President has come under heavy public criticisms on how his body language has condoned the unguarded utterances and actions of these characters.
However, in the light of these treasonable and inciting utterances by Miyetti Allah, we demand that President Muhammadu Buhari, should within the next 24 hours, order the arrest and commence immediate trial of the leadership of this group, otherwise Nigerians will henceforth hold him directly responsible for the utterances and actions of the Miyetti Allah.
Finally, the PDP is aware that Miyetti Allah does not represent the views and interests of the vast majority of cattle breeders or even any ethnic group in the country. We, therefore, urge all good spirited Nigerians to rise in condemnation of the actions and utterances of these misguided elements, who are being used to attempt a constitutional breach that portends grave danger to national cohesion and our hard earned democracy”.
Signed:
Kola Ologbondiyan
National Publicity Secretary

PDP gives Buhari 24 hours to arrest Miyetti Allah leaders
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has given President Muhammadu Buhari a 24-hour ultimatum to arrest leaders of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN).
The ultimatum follows a threat by the Benue State coordinator of the group, Garius Gololo.
Mr Gololo had on Tuesday warned the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, to resign or be forced to do so.
“It is on this note that we are saying that Saraki ought not to be in office again as Senate President, more so, Saraki has failed to coordinate and organise the National Assembly to offer quality legislation that Nigerians need ” he was quoted by the Punch as saying.
Therefore, we are now warning him to honourably resign his position as president of the Senate or we will force him out”, Gololo said, refusing, however, to explain how the association would remove the Senate president,” he said.
Reacting to the comments on Wednesday, PDP in a statement by its spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, alleged a synergy between APC and MACBAN.
“If anything, this unguarded statement by Miyetti Allah has exposed the synergy between the ruling party and some troublesome elements, who are being used to stoke division and create violent crisis that had resulted into daily bloodlettings in various parts of the country.
“It is now abundantly clear to Nigerians that those fomenting crisis, including the bloody clashes in Benue, Taraba, Zamfara, Nassarawa, Plateau, Kaduna, Edo, Borno, Yobe, Enugu, Kogi, Adamawa and other states in our country, have political backers, who now want to channel them to achieve their unpatriotic quest to subvert our constitution and forcefully take over the National Assembly.”
Describing MACBAN as the fourth arm of President Buhari’s administration, the PDP demanded the arrest and immediate trial of leaders of the group.
“Before now, to majority of Nigerians, the Miyetti Allah has always represented the military wing of the APC and the Buhari Presidency. It is incontrovertible that they have now become the fourth arm of government that can determine when and how to forcefully remove the number three citizen, the President of the Senate.

Resignation: Miyetti Allah disowns official threatening Saraki
The national leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association has dissociated itself from threatening comments against Senate President, Bukola Saraki by its state coordinator for Benue.
Recall that the state coordinator, Garus Gololo, had in an interview with The Punch warned Saraki to resign or be forced to do so.
Reacting, however, the national body of the association said Mr Gololo only spoke for himself.
In a statement signed by its secretary, Othman Ngelzarma, on Wednesday, the association said Mr Gololo’s comments do not reflect the position of the association.
The statement reads, “The attention of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria has been drawn to an interview granted by one Garus Gololo in Makurdi to Punch Newspaper titled ‘Resign or we will force you out’. Miyetti Allah to Saraki. This statement is unfortunate.
“I will categorically state that Garos Gololo spoke in his personal capacity and has no mandate to speak on behalf of the association. Miyetti Allah is a non partisan association with no interest in the political terrain and we couldn’t meddle into the affairs of political actors thereby compounding our already obvious challenges. I, therefore, urge all and sundry to disregard this statement. This statement is not from MACBAN and should be disregarded in its entirety.”
The group said it would sanction Mr Gololo for making such statement.
“We take exception on this statement and Garos Gololo is entirely on his own and will be sanctioned accordingly. We cannot afford to add up to the many challenges we are confronted with. I’m therefore appealing to the general public to disregard this statement as it is coming from someone who doesn’t have the mandate of the association to speak on its behalf. Thank You and God bless you all.”
