Operatives of the Police Command in Lagos State have rescued a man from being lynched by a mob.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a post shared on his X handle @benHundeyin on Friday.
He said that the timely intervention of police officers from Iju Division saved the man from being killed.
“At 8:40 p.m. on Thursday, the suspect was caught while carting away barbed wire on a perimeter fence in Iju area of state.
“He injured one of the people trying to apprehend him with a scissors. This prompted mob action on him. Patrol officers raced to the scene and rescued him, ” the image maker said.
According to him, efforts are ongoing to apprehend those behind the barbaric act of jungle justice.
The spokesperson urged members of the public to desist from jungle justice.
Two suspected phone thieves were on Wednesday rescued from a mob by the Lagos state police command in the Surulere area of Lagos state.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed this in a post he shared on his X handle on Wednesday.
The PPRO alleged that the suspects snatched a phone from a woman while she was making calls.
His post reads “While a passerby was making a phone call at 11.00 p.m, five young men in a tricycle accosted her and robbed her of her expensive phone.
“She quickly raised an alarm, prompting people around to go after the men.
“Three escaped while two were apprehended, ” the spokesperson said.
He said that the timely intervention of the police saved the suspects from a mob action.
“Officers of the Bode Thomas Police Division got wind of this and raced to the scene.
“They arrived quickly to rescue the suspects from an angry mob,” he wrote.
Angry mob on Sunday attacked operatives of Anambra State Fire Service for allegedly arriving late at the scene of a fire incident.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Director/Fire Chief of Anambra Fire Service, Mr Martin Agbili, and made available to newsmen in Onitsha on Monday.
Agbili said that the incident occurred at Atani Road, by Uga Junction, Onitsha, at about 6 p. m.
He said that the attackers shattered the wind shield and side mirrors of the fire truck, and also injured some of the operatives.
The fire chief described the incident as barbaric and a bad way to start the new year.
According to him, on Sunday 1st January, 2023 at about 1800hours, Anambra State Fire Service, received a distress call of fire incident at Uga junction by Atani road.
“Immediately, our fire truck and fire fighters were deployed to the scene. On arrival to the fire scene, the mob attacked us.
“They threw stones, sticks and irons at us. Unfortunately, they shattered the windscreen of our fire trucks, the side glasses and also wounded some firefighters.
“As they started throwing stones on the fire truck while the fire was still on, what we could hear was, ‘is it now that you people are coming to fight the fire?
“We managed to escape the mob attack with our shattered windscreen and some injured firefighters.
“This gift of new year is really unfortunate, that our hardworking firefighters of Anambra State will be welcomed to the new year with this barbaric act.
“Perpetrators of this ugly act will surely be brought to book,” Agbali said.
The timely intervention of Police operatives from Olasan Division, Mushin, saved a 53-year-old woman from being lynched by a mob on Thursday in Lagos. The mob had alleged that the woman stole a baby.
Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesman of the Police Command in Lagos, writing on his Twitter handle said:
“We really need to join hands to stop jungle justices. At about 6.10 p.m. today (Thursday), people stripped naked a 53-year-old woman (names withheld), started stoning her and were about lynching her.
“This happened at Alasalatu, Mushin area of Lagos. The allegation was that she touched a baby and the baby disappeared.
“Police got there on time to rescue her and the mob was dispersed with teargas.
“The allegation has not been proven. No parent/guardian has come forward yet to complain of a missing baby in that locality today. She’s currently at the station. Her husband has been contacted,” Hundeyin said.
The image maker said that investigation was ongoing, stressing that Jungle justice was not the way to go.
“Say no to jungle justice,” he declared.
Cases of jungle justice have become rampant in the last four months with the Police foiling two of such attempts and rescuing the victims.
A man has been killed in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital after he was set ablaze following an argument over alleged blasphemy.

The engineer’s colleagues, Frank, a saxophonist, and Philip, a keyboardist, had boarded a motorcycle to a venue on Admiralty Way where David was setting up for a show.
The motorcyclist was said to have conveyed the duo to the destination when an argument bordering on N100 ensued between the motorcyclist and David’s friends.
The argument was said to have degenerated into a fight, as the motorcyclist sought the support of other motorcyclists, who intervened in the matter.
The Lagos State Police Command had revealed the identity of a 22-year-old who allegedly doused a sound engineer, David Imoh, with petrol as he was lynched in the Lekki area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Benjamin Hundeyin, said in a statement that the number of suspects arrested in connection with the gruesome murder of David had risen to seven.
The PPRO mentioned the seventh suspect as 22-year-old Usman Abubakar.
Amob in Sokoto on Thursday burnt alive a female student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education over alleged blasphemy.
Identified simply as Deborah, the student was reported to have described a message about Prophet Muhammad on a WhatsApp group as “nonsense”.

The group, it was learnt, was created for academic purposes.
According to a source that pleaded anonymity, the matter got out of hand after Deborah refused to apologize for her alleged comment on the post.
“She was asked to apologise but refused and this heightened tension in the school. The college security personnel had to intervened by whisking her to their office but they were overwhelmed by students, who later set her ablaze,” the source said.
A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media.
A 41-year old man, Mushtaq Ahmed, has been stoned to death by an enraged mob for allegedly burning the Muslim holy book (Quran) inside a local mosque at the district of Khanewal in Punjab province, Pakistan.
The custodian of the local mosque, Mian Mohammad Ramzan, said he saw the deceased burning the Quran on Saturday evening.
Ramzan pointed out that he saw smoke inside the mosque, which is adjacent to his home, and rushed over to investigate.
According to him, he found one Quran burned and saw a man attempting to burn another, saying “people were starting to arrive for evening prayers as I was shouting for the man to stop.”

Police spokesman, Chaudhry Imran, explained that police rushed to the scene, where a man was found surrounded by an angry crowd.
“Officer Mohammad Iqbal and two subordinates tried to take custody of the man but the group began throwing stones at them, seriously injuring Iqbal and slightly injuring the other two officers,” Imran said.
Chief of Tulamba police station, Munawar Gujjar, said he rushed reinforcements to the mosque but they did not arrive before the mob had stoned to death the man and hung his body from a tree.

He said investigators were scanning available videos to try to identify the assailants, adding that the police had so far detained about 80 men living in the mosque’s surroundings but that about 300 suspects took part.
Witnesses said a police team that reached the village before the stoning began took custody of a man but the mob snatched him away from them and beat the police as they tried to rescue him.
The witnesses asserted that later, more officers and constables reached the scene and took custody of the body.
Prime Minister, Imran Khan, expressed his anguish over the incident and said he was seeking a report from Punjab’s chief minister on the police handling of the case.
The Prime Minister also asked the Punjab police chief for a report on the actions taken against perpetrators of the lynching.
The killing comes months after the lynching of a Sri Lankan manager of a sporting goods factory in Sialkot in Punjab province on Dec. 3 who was accused by workers of blasphemy.
The Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai has ordered a probe into the alleged killing of suspected informants by lunch mob in Igabi Local Government of the state.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports security agencies had reported the killing of a man, his wife and son, by a lynch mob in Zangon Aya community, Igabi local government area as stated in a statement issued by Samuel Aruwan Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Kaduna State.
According to the report, Abdullahi Mohammed Gobirawa, his wife Binta Abdullahi and his son Hassan Abdullahi, were killed when a mob stormed their home on Monday afternoon.
The mob action was in response to the trio’s suspected collaboration with bandits, especially in relation to recent kidnappings in the area.
After killing the trio, the mob looted and burnt their home.
Receiving the reports, Governor Nasir El-Rufai expressed his sadness and deep worry at the violent actions of the citizens, and strongly condemned the extra-judicial killings. He stressed that lawful means alone should be adopted in confronting suspicions of criminality, as the destructive practice of self-help would only result in greater harm.
The Governor directed security agencies to conduct thorough investigations into the incident, and urged citizens to maintain order.
He cautioned against stereotyping of any sort, and appealed for consistent recourse to the constituted agencies.
A mob has razed the residence of the Sokoto State Commissioner of Career and Security Affairs, Colonel Garba Moyi.
The house, located in Isa Local Government Area of the North West State, was burned down on Tuesday.
Sokoto Police Command Public Relations Officer Sanusi Abubakar confirmed the attack on Wednesday, explaining that arrests have also been made following the incident.
While narrating how the incident took place, the police spokesman said a peaceful gathering was organised by some residents of the area to discuss the way forward over security issues.
The gathering, according to Abubakar, was organised in good faith and resolutions were to be forwarded to appropriate quarters for further action.
However, he said some bad elements hijacked it for a protest that went violent, leading to the unfortunate incident.
Sources in the area said after torching the commissioner’s home, the youths also stormed the residence of the District Head and Sarkin Gobir of Isa, Nasiru Ahmed, destroying vehicles and other items.
Meanwhile, the Sokoto State Commissioner of Police Kamaludeen Okunola has ordered a full scale investigation to ensure those involved are prosecuted. He also warned residents of the state against taking laws into their hands.
