    Ayra Starr wins big at 2025 MOBO awards

    Nigerian singer, Oyinkansola Aderibigbe better known Ayra Starr, has won the ‘Best International Act’ (the first African female to win the prize) and ‘Best African Music Act’ (the first female to win the prize in 16 years).

    The ceremony, which holds annually to honour achievements in “music of black origin,” took place on Wednesday in Newcastle, United Kingdom.

    Aside, Starr who won two prestigious awards at the 2025 MOBO Awards, Darkoo, the Nigerian-British rapper, also cliched the ‘Best Female Act’ while Central Cee won the male category.

    90sbabyshow, the three-man podcast, won the ‘Best Media Personality’ category while Odeal, the Nigerian-born singer, claimed the ‘Best Newcomer’ award.

    Burna Boy reigns in Nigerian music with 3 MOBO awards, 2021 and 2022 wins

    The 2022 Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) awards, which celebrates Black music and culture, saw the first-ever tie in their 25-year history, as Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, Burna Boy, added two wins (Best International Act and Best African Music Act) to last year’s win.

    Reacting to his new wins, Burna tweeted; “Thank you so much @MOBOAwards for the Two Awards, Best International Act 2022 & Best African Music Act 2022”.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) recalls that Burna Boy won the Best International Act at the 2021 MOBO awards.

    The award event was held on Wednesday, 30 November, 2022, in London, at Wembley Arena.

    The singer was nominated in the Best International Act category alongside Chris Brown, Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar, Jack Harlow, Drake, Summer Walker and Nigerian fast-rising global act, Tems.

    Burna also won the Best African Act, beating Asake, Rema, Fireboy, and Omah Lay.

    Other winners at 2022 MOBO Awards

    Little Simz, Knucks, PinkPantheress and Central Cee took home top prizes at this year’s MOBO Awards, the annual ceremony celebrating the best in Black musical talent from Britain and abroad.

    Little Simz and Knucks were crowned joint winners for the album of the year prize, for their albums Sometimes I Might Be Introvert and Alpha Place, respectively; Central Cee won the award for best male act, as well as video of the year for his song ‘Doja,’ while PinkPantheress won best female act.

    Little Simz’s award for best album comes a year after her first MOBO win, for best female act, and caps off a landmark year that has seen her win the Mercury Prize as well as the BRIT award for best new act.

    This is the second year in a row that Central Cee has taken home two awards at the MOBOs. Last year, he won best newcomer and best drill act. Overall, 2022 has been a banner year for the London rapper, with his album 23 hitting number one in the UK and ‘Doja’ making the top 10 in seven countries.

    Elsewhere in the ceremony, Dreya Mac, FelixThe1st and Finch Fetti won song of the year for their viral hit ‘Own Brand Freestyle,’ Bru-C won best newcomer, Mahalia won best R&B/soul act, and D Double E took home best grime act. Inflo – one of the producers on Sometimes I Might Be Introvert – won the award for producer of the year.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that this year’s MOBO awards ceremony was live-streamed on YouTube. The ceremony was hosted by YouTubers Chunkz and Yung Filly, and featured performances from legendary producer and Chic bandleader Nile Rodgers, Craig David, Kojey Radical and more.

    Rodgers was also honoured with a lifetime achievement award, while David received an award for outstanding contribution. This year’s ceremony featured a tribute to Jamal Edwards MBE, the late DJ and SBTV founder, performed by Emeli Sandé.

    Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has once again won two categories of the 2022 Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) awards.

    Burna won the Best International Act and the Best African Act categories at the awards ceremony in London.

    The award event, which recognizes the best black music, was held on Wednesday in London, at Wembley Arena.

    The singer was nominated in the Best International Act category alongside Chris Brown, Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar, Jack Harlow, Drake, Summer Walker, and Nigerian fast-rising global act, Tems.

    Burna also won the Best African Act, beating Asake, Rema, Fireboy, and Omah Lay.

    This brings the singer’s MOBO award wins to a total of three following his 2021 win as the Best International Act.

    Fans of Tiwa Savage on social media have been raving about her impressive performance at 2020 MOBO Awards. During the energetic rendition, Tiwa performed her Afrobeat song, ‘Koroba’ and the intro to her album, ‘Save My Life.’

    During the award for which Tiwa Savage was nominated Best African Act, she performed for the audience virtually due to COVID-19 restriction.

    The high-point of the performance was the reference she made to the Lekki shootings where unarmed protesters were shot at by operatives of the Nigerian army. Tiwa crooned:”Who gave the order”?

    Savage’s vocals were harmonious, pleasing and convincing. The self-proclaimed ‘African bad gal’ was dressed in a gold outfit while her hair was braided.
