  • Soludo has failed, give me just 4yrs, I’ll restore confidence in governance -Moghalu boasts

Soludo has failed, give me just 4yrs, I’ll restore confidence in governance -Moghalu boasts

Fresh member of the Labour Party(LP) and the immediate past Managing Director and Chief Executive of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Chief George Nnadubem Moghalu who at the weekend confirmed his intention to run for the governorship seat of Anambra State next year.

He has also publicly vowed to do just a single term of four years.

Moghalu who was described as a colourful and disciplined public servant, at a press conference at Nnewi at the weekend noted that whatever anyone was unable to do in four years, won’t be done in eight years.

According to him, it’s only an unprepared person and one who stumbled into office that often believe he need eight years to make an impression.

Fielding questions from journalists during the no-holds barred session, Chief Moghalu emphasized that his burning desire was to restore the citizens confidence in governance once more. That the worst loss any level of administration would suffer was for the citizens to lose confidence in the administration.

When taken up on why he thinks there’s need to replace the incumbent governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, he didn’t mince words to assert that “he has failed the people of Anambra…”

He disclosed that he would unveil his blueprint during his formal declaration at a date to be announced soon.

On the possibility of another aspirant plagiarising or highjacking his ideas, Chief Moghalu admitted that that no one would do any program better than the original vision bearer.

That he was ready to assist everyone begin to see Anambra’s yawning needs and way forward.

He used the opportunity of the media parley to dispel the speculation making the rounds that he was contesting for the Anambra South senatorial seat to fill the vacancy created by the recent unfortunate demise of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.

Moghalu while acknowledging that he was equally qualified for seat, insisted that he had no such ambition but for the Governorship seat.

Hear him, “I will be contesting for governor next year and not Senate. I recently resigned from the APC, and then formally joined the LP on October 1, 2024.

“Before I did so, I consulted extensively with my followers, supporters, political family, my wife and children, my friends, and I was convinced that Labour Party is the party that aligns with my person and the best suited platform to realize my ambition.

“We need to redeem Anambra fast because Soludo has failed the people. There is dearth of infrastructure in the state, security has collapsed.

“We will not tolerate him further. What he could not do in four years, he will never be able to do in eight years. You don’t need eight years to develop Anambra.”

He acknowledged that the political zoning arrangement in the state, and that Anambra South, where he hails from alongside the incumbent -Soludo is well favoured for the contest.

That perhaps was reason he opted to do only one term of fours when he wins so as to complete the turn of the Anambra South senatorial zone.

IgboMustGo: It’s hate and criminal speech – Ex-CBN deputy Gov, Moghalu

Ex-Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Kingsley Moghalu, has said Nigeria has become like crabs that can’t move forward but sideways or backwards.

He said that ethnic-profiling supremacy has hobbled Nigeria’s potential as Africa’s most populous country, stymying both governance and the economy.

In his words contained contained in a post on his X handle on Friday, following genocidal threats on X against the Igbo tribe, which called for their relocation.

Recall that there are calls on social media, trending under the hashtag #IgboMustGo on X, demanding the forced relocation of Igbo people from Lagos and other Southwest states.

The National Assembly South East caucus too had condemned the ethnic profiling in a statement on Friday.

However, Moghalu said the online #IgboMustLeaveLagos campaign is hate, criminal speech, calling on leaders to take strong action against the ethnic-cleansing propaganda.

His words: “The online #IgboMustLeaveLagos campaign is hate, criminal speech. Our leaders need to take strong action against this kind of ethnic-cleansing propaganda similar to the Radio/TV Milles Collines demonisation of the Tutsi in Rwanda 30 years ago.

“As a Political Affairs Officer @UN Secretariat Headquarters in New York at the time, I helped in efforts to counter and stop the genocide, which sadly proved unsuccessful as a result of Great Power politics in the UN Security Council, and the genocide was ended only by the military victory achieved by the Rwanda Patriotic Army led by @PaulKagame. Thankfully we later successfully prosecuted the architects of the genocide at the UN International Tribunal for Rwanda in Arusha, Tanzania, while the Rwandan authorities also successfully ran the local gacaca community trials, and went on to rebuild their country to an enviable level.

“Not too long ago Nigerian state governors went to Rwanda to be taught the art of #GoodGovernance. Nigerian leaders taking strong action would demonstrate that such hate has no place in our country.

“Ethnic-identity supremacy has hobbled Nigeria’s potential as Africa’s most populous country, stymying both governance and the economy. We have become like crabs who can’t move

forward, only sideways or backwards. I commend Lagos State Governor @jidesanwoolu for stepping out and calling for an end to this dangerous nonsense.”

  • Nobody will stampede me out of APC, Moghalu declares

Nobody will stampede me out of APC, Moghalu declares

A topmost foundation member of the ruling APC, Chief George Moghalu has thrown a big spanner in the works of those he believed were hallucinating about his quitting the party.

Reacting to wild reports making the rounds in the social media lately which he suspects was the handiwork of political merchants, that he was dumping the APC for LP, Moghalu told journalists Sunday afternoon at his Nnewi country home yesterday that quitting APC or politics generally remains his decision to make

According to him, we set up and nurtured this party, and if for any reason I decide to leave, it won’t be a speculation.

“There is a stipulated process and constitutional procedure to be followed
“I will formally notify the party hierarchy right from my Uruagu Nnewi Ward up to the National Headquarters of the party.

“Remember I held a national position in the party for years. I also served the nation in other capacities. I can’t just sneak out or into any party if such idea ever crosses my political mind at all, he stressed.

Chief Moghalu who was the immediate past Director General of the National Inland Waterways also held the position of the National Auditor of the party. A position he held until he stepped aside to take up national appointment in the administration of ex-president Muhammadu Buhari.

When taken up on the source or reason for one to speculate hisj interest in dumping APC for LP, he decline making any guess but insisted he will never make any political move in the shadows.

He remained one of the few very disciplined politicians in Nigeria loyal, consistent and focused who never jumped party.

The party chieftain suspected it was likely that those speculating his departure took the view from the fallout of the 2021 governorship primary election of the party in Anambra State assigned to Gov Sapo Abiodun of Ogun State. Sadly the assignment was reportedly scuttled by some politicians who literally abducted the visiting governor on arrival.

He was then shepherded to and more or less quarantined in a room at the Golden Tulip Hotels Agulu in Anaocha Council of the State.

He remained there until few hours later when he then read out what sounded like a prepared list of allocated figures form the 21 Councils, and 326 Electoral Wards of the State, for the 14 aspirants. That was at a time when primary election officials and materials had not left the state secretariat of the party in Awka to the relevant venues within the communities.

Moghalu and the then Minister of Labour/Employment, Senator Chris Ngige the two most prominent leaders of the party in the state, and other party big wigs and their teeming supporters waited in vain to cast their ballots till the announcement of rhe results started by Abiodun. Senator Andy Uba was announced winner.

This drama left them flabbergasted and consequently opted to seek redress in court. They won at the High Court, Court of Appeal and ultimately at the Supreme Court.

It was therefore shocking that the national leadership of APC had persistently ignored these verdicts till date. Senator Uba has remained underground with a studied silence since then.

Tinubu should reshuffle cabinet to restore confidence – Moghalu

Former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, has advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reshuffle his cabinet.

Moghalu disclosed this in an interview with Arise Television on Thursday.

He said: “To restore confidence, President Tinubu needs to reshuffle his cabinet because one of the reasons that investor confidence disappeared was the process of appointing his cabinet, it was too slow.

“Then when it made the announcement, it was largely a very political type of cabinet, and investors were hoping for something more technocratic to deal with the crisis at hand,” he said.

He further suggested that President Tinubu should establish a dedicated Economic Advisory Council to provide guidance on more effective economic management.

Don’t blame Buhari for Super Eagles exit from AFCON – Moghalu

African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential aspirant, Kingsley Moghalu, has said President Muhammadu Buhari was not the reason for Super Eagles elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations 2021.

Recall that Nigeria crashed out of AFCON after a 0-1 loss to the North African side, Tunisia.

A goalkeeping error from Maduka Okoye gave the Carthage Eagles the goal a few minutes into the second half.

Following the defeat, some Nigerians blamed the loss on President Muhammadu Buhari video call with the Super Eagles earlier before the match.

Others blamed Super Eagles goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, for his error.

Reacting, Moghalu, on Twitter said,”@NGSuperEagles lost to Tunisia. Period. It’s not because President @MBuhari called them.

“Let’s not be superstitious please. I’m sad though.”

Kingsley Moghalu, former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and presidential candidate in the 2019 general election, has described Nigeria as a failed state.

Moghalu, who was recently appointed as an Academic Visitor to the University of Oxford, UK said Nigeria is a failed state pretending to be normal.

His reaction came days after terrorists attack the Abuja-Kaduna train.

The ex-presidential candidate lamented that the inaction of security agents who were aware of the attack ahead of time, indicated that Nigeria is a failed state.

In a series of tweets, Moghalu wrote: “After reading reports of the terrorist attacks on the Abuja-Kaduna train, and of how security networks were reportedly aware in advance of the attack but did nothing, we must tell ourselves the truth: Nigeria is a failed state pretending to be a normal country.

“Our state failure can be reversed. Britain suffered from “The Troubles” (terrorism by the Irish Republican Army) decades ago, but today it’s a different story.

“Afghanistan is not our destiny, but we must change our political direction in 2023 to make that outcome a false prophecy.”

  • Failure of governance turned youths to threat- Moghalu

Failure of governance turned youths to threat- Moghalu

A presidential aspirant under the African Democratic Congress Kingsley Moghalu, has said the failure of governance turned the youth into a threat.

Moghalu made this statement on the backdrop of the #EndSARS memorial protest.

He said in a statement on Wednesday that the youths are Nigeria’s most productive asset but have become a threat to the government because of its failures.

He said, “Nigeria’s young men and women face many fundamental challenges. The strength of their numbers (nearly 70 per cent of our population) is supposed to be the country’s most productive asset; but the failure of governance has turned this into a threat, and the #EndSARS movement has witnessed efforts to silence the voices of our young people, physically and on social media including the ‘Twitter ban’.

“A year ago, Nigerian youth organised themselves in the peaceful #EndSARS protests to demand freedom from police brutality. Quite sadly, the bravery of the young compatriots was met with even more brutality. Like millions of fellow citizens, and indeed the youth, today, I especially remember those who paid the ultimate price for freedom during the protest. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten or in vain.”

Speaking further, the former deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria mentioned his five-point agenda if elected into office, which he says would provide a council that would memorialise the 2020 #EndSARS protests.
“The council will work to bring into reality the promises of the National Youth Policy. As part of its responsibilities, the council will memorialise the 2020 #EndSARS protest and restore civic engagement and the right to protest as provided for in the Nigerian constitution.”
