Mo Salah: Why Liverpool turned down £150m offer from Al-Ittihad

Liverpool have rejected a 150 million pounds (190 million dollars) offer for Mohamed Salah from Saudi Arabia Pro League side Al-Ittihad.

The Egypt international has been the subject of interest from the Middle East for some time and a verbal offer was made on Friday.

However, the club have rejected it out of hand and consider the matter closed as the forward is not for sale.

The offer is understood to have been 100 million pounds upfront with a further 50 million pounds in add-ons.

While the figure looks appealing for a 31-year-old, Liverpool are determined to resist any attempt to lure Salah away.

He is a player who has scored 138 goals in 221 appearances in six seasons, during which time he was won the Premier League Golden Boot on three occasions.

Even if they were mindful to contemplate a sale, which sources insist is completely off the table, it would leave them with no time to find a replacement.

That is even if they can find one of the calibre even close to that of Salah.

Asked about the prospect of Salah leaving, manager Jürgen Klopp said: “The position remains the same, absolutely. No doubt about that.

“We cannot (sell Salah). That’s how it is. Nothing else to say.”

EPL: We failed our fans by not qualifying for UCL – Salah

Liverpool winger, Mohamed Salah has expressed disappointment over the Reds inability to play Champions League football come next season.

The Reds will likely finish fifth and get a place in the Europa League next season after Manchester United’s 4-1 win over Chelsea confirmed Erik ten Hag’s men will finish in the top.

Shortly after the game, Salah tweeted: “I’m totally devastated. There’s absolutely no excuse for this.

“We had everything we needed to make it to next year’s Champions League and we failed.

“We are Liverpool and qualifying to the competition is the bare minimum. I am sorry but it’s too soon for an uplifting or optimistic post. We let you and ourselves down.”

United will join Manchester City, Arsenal and Newcastle United in the Champions League.

CAF awards: Sadio Mane reacts after winning 2022 African Player of the Year

Sadio Mane is the 2022 African Player of the Year, emulating his idol El Hadji Diouf as the second Senegalese to win back-to-back awards.

The Senegalese forward, who inspired Senegal to their historic first Africa Cup of Nations title in February as well as guiding the Teranga Lions to this year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar, beat strong opposition from his countryman Edouard Mendy and former Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah.

“I am so excited to win this award. There are so many players that deserved this award, but I have been chosen. I am honoured and I thank everyone for this,” he told CAF Online.

Thursday’s award was Mane’s second, having won in 2019 when the event was hosted and held in Hurghada, Egypt.

The 30-year-old Mane scored 23 goals for Liverpool in all competitions last season before moving to Bayern Munich in Germany this summer.

It was a big night for Senegal who also won National Team of the Year and for Aliou Cisse who was named the Coach of the Year. Simba’s Senegalese import Pape Sakho also walked away with the Goal of the Year.

Mane expressed his joy at this and said, “I cannot explain this. It is so far the best year of Senegalese football. To collect all these awards, you have to believe first. It was hard work and we never stopped dreaming. We continued working hard and finally we got it.”

Mane and Senegal will be hoping to continue this spirit in Qatar when they make their third appearance at the global showpiece.

Salah becomes 10th man to reach 150 goals in Liverpool

Liverpool forward, Mohamed Salah, has become the 10th man to reach 150 goals in the club’s history and the second-fastest (232 matches) after Roger Hunt (226).

Salah, who has scored 25 in 30 appearances this season including 17 in 23 Premier League matches, expressed his pride after scoring his 150th goal for the club in a 3-1 comeback win over Norwich which maintained the momentum in their title challenge.

“It feels great. I’m always proud to score for this club and the most important thing is to win games which is what we did today. What we can do is focus on each game and that is the most important thing.

“We know when you fight with City, City most of the time they win games so all we can do is focus on ourselves and see what happens at the end of the season,” Salah said.

Trailing to Milot Rashica’s deflected strike early in the second half, Liverpool drew level through Sadio Mane’s overhead kick before taking the lead soon after through Salah’s landmark effort.

Players who have reached 150 goals in the club’s history:
    Ian Rush
    Roger Hunt
    Gordon Hodgson
    Billy Liddell
    Steven Gerrard
    Robbie Fowler
    Kenny Dalglish
    Michael Owen
    Harry Chambers
    Mohamed Salah

Salah’s 150th Liverpool goal helped keep his side’s title challenge on track as they came from behind to beat Norwich 3-1 at Anfield.

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, was asked to name his favourite Salah goal and he reeled off at least half a dozen.

He said: “Today was a really cheeky one, to be honest. I remember the Chelsea goal, comes inside and thunderbolt in the corner, a few of the dribblings against City and Watford, the United goal as well, Ali’s pass as well, the Champions League one at City as well was very special.”

Salah, Mane, Diaz score as Liverpool comeback win over Norwich City

Second-half goals from Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz, helped Liverpool come from behind to claim a 3-1 victory against relegation-battlers Norwich City at Anfield on Saturday.

An upset looked to be on the cards when Milot Rashica handed Norwich the lead in the 48 minute as he skipped past Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain before striking home.

However, Mane struck back with a superb acrobatic effort shortly after, and Salah put Liverpool ahead just three minutes later with his 150th goal for the club.

January arrival, Diaz ended doubts of a Norwich comeback in the 83rd minute when he opened his Liverpool account with a delightful chip over opposing goalkeeper Angus Gunn.

The result put a dent in Norwich’s hopes of staying off relegation, with Dean Smith’s side failing to keep pace with 17th-place Newcastle United, who earned a draw away to West Ham United earlier on Saturday.

Liverpool remain in second place on 57 points after 25 games.

BREAKING: Salah becomes all-time African Premier League goalscorer as Liverpool demolish Man U

Liverpool Football Club on Sunday demolished Manchester United with Mohamed Salah scoring a hat trick to become all-time African Premier League goalscorer.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the Sunday encounter between Liverpool and Man U ended in a 5-0 pummeling of the Red Devils with Cristiano Ronaldo left helpless.

With the encounter, Salah has now scored 107 goals to displace the record holder, Didier Drogba, who has 104 Premier League goals to his name.

With the feat, the Liverpool’s talisman has further fuelled the argument of who the greatest African Player in the Premier League ever is.

TNG reports Salah scored a hat-trick and Paul Pogba was sent off as Liverpool embarrassed Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Four of the Reds’ five goals were scored in a clinical first-half display as a mixture of poor defending and fine finishing humbled Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s insipid side.

Naby Keita rolled in the first from Salah’s through-ball to put Liverpool ahead after just five minutes before Diogo Jota slid in a second soon after.

Salah then got his first, smashing the ball into the roof of the net as he scored for the 10th straight game before the Egypt forward made it 4-0 on the stroke of half time with a close-range finish.

There were boos at half time from the home fans but it got worse soon after the restart when Salah scored his third after the in-form forward was brilliantly found by Jordan Henderson.

Cristiano Ronaldo had a goal ruled out for offside before Manchester United’s misery was complete when Pogba, on as a half-time substitute, was sent off for a two-footed tackle on Keita after being on the pitch for just 15 minutes.

  • Real Madrid make Salah top summer target

Real Madrid make Salah top summer target

La Liga giants Real Madrid are eyeing Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.

The Daily Star says Real Madrid have made Salah their top transfer target ahead of the summer window.

It comes during a time when the forward has seen his form dip for Liverpool at a critical time in the season.

The Reds had been comfortably top for some time in the Premier League but that status is now under threat.

A shock 1-0 loss to Southampton has opened the door to Manchester United, who can leapfrog them into first with just a point from their game in hand.

Liverpool were desperately poor against the Saints, with Salah one of those guilty.

The Egyptian still leads the Premier League for most goals scored with 13 – but has not hit the net in three appearances now.

Mo Salah ‘very disappointed’ by Klopp captaincy snub

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah admits he was disappointed being overlooked for the captaincy last week.

Salah had hoped for the armband as Jordan Henderson was benched for the Champions League tie with FC Midtjylland, but it was given to Trent Alexander-Arnold instead.

Salah told AS: “Honestly, I was very disappointed.

“I was hoping to be the captain, but it’s a coach’s (Jurgen Klopp) decision. I accept it.”

Asked if he regards himself among the world’s best players, Salah continued: “Yes absolutely. Yes. [Laughs] When I look back on my career I want to feel that I achieved something special, that I did something special. That’s why I try to do my best in every game and every year for the club and also for myself.”

  • Mohamed Salah tests positive for coronavirus

Mohamed Salah tests positive for coronavirus

Liverpool and Egypt winger Mohamed Salah has tested positive for Coronavirus, a big blow to both country and his club.

Salah, who is on international duty with Egypt, is asymptomatic, at the moment.

He is scheduled to line up in the African Cup of Nations match against Togo on Saturday.

    Egypt FA issued a statement:

‘The medical swab conducted on the mission of our first national football team showed that our international player, Mohamed Salah, the star of Liverpool, was infected with the Coronavirus after his test came positive, although he does not suffer from any symptoms, while the other members of the team tested negative.

The Egypt FA said Salah will be subject to further checks during the coming hour.

If Salah’s status is further confirmed, it will be a big blow to Liverpool.

The club is already buffeted by the absence of key players due to injury.

Salah will also be the third player to be hit by the virus, after Sadio Mane and Thiago Alcantara, who joined the club from Bayern Munich.

  • ‘Klopp told me I was better than Salah’

Mohamed Zidan was once the face of Egyptian football and says Jurgen Klopp told him “100 times” at Borussia Dortmund that he was a better player than Mohamed Salah.

The former frontman was thought to have the potential to scale such heights.

He enjoyed a productive career in Europe, representing the likes of Midtylland, Mainz, Hamburg and Dortmund.

Zidan also took in 44 appearances for his country and was often the go-to man for the Pharaohs.

Salah now shoulders that responsibility, having become a global star while on the books at Liverpool, but was not always held in such high regard.

Klopp is benefitting from his considerable talent at present, but he was also a big fan of another Egyptian during his days in charge of Dortmund.

Zidan told ON Sport: “Klopp told me that I was better than Salah 100 hundred times but I needed to be more professional.

“Klopp said to me that I have a great talent and skills but I need to concentrate more. If I did this I could be one of the best players in the world”.
