    Why I dissolved my cabinet – Governor Bago opens up

    Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State has attributed the dissolution of his cabinet to the outcome of a mid-term review of performance.

    Governor Bago stated this while speaking with journalists shortly after the valedictory State Executive Council (SEC) meeting at the Government House, Minna.

    The Governor said the decision became necessary because some officials exceeded the Key Performance Indicator (KPI) of the administration, while a few others did not.

    Bago explained that it was also discovered that some have strength in other areas and that his administration needs to be rejigged to  bring about the desired growth and development in line with the mission and vision of the New Niger Agenda.

    In a statement by Bologi Ibrahim, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Niger State, the Governor said some would be reappointed as cabinet members, and some would be given other portfolios to serve.

    He reiterated his appreciation to them for all their contributions to his administration, saying they have collectively done well.

    The Governor had earlier dissolved his cabinet and retained his Secretary to the state government (SSG), Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, and other principal officers.

    Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, on Monday announced the dissolution of the State Executive Council, bringing to an end the tenure of his commissioners and other cabinet members.

    The decision was made public during the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting held at the Council Chamber in Minna.

    Governor Bago, popularly known as the “Farmer Governor,” expressed appreciation to the outgoing commissioners and appointees for their service and contributions to the development of the state since his assumption of office.

    He wished them success in their future endeavours.

    However, the Governor clarified that the dissolution does not affect all government officials.

    He retained his Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, and other principal officers in the Governor’s office, who are expected to continue in their roles.

    The announcement, contained in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, marks a significant restructuring in the administration as Bago moves into the next phase of his governance agenda.

    Details regarding the appointment of new cabinet members are expected to be announced in the coming days.

    Niger govt orders immediate closure of IBB University

    Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State has ordered the immediate closure of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) University, Lapai, due to security concerns.

    This is contained in a statement by Alhaji Abubakar Usman, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), on Wednesday in Minna.

    Usman said the decision followed recent security breaches and the tragic loss of lives within the University community.

    He stressed that the safety of all citizens, particularly students, remains a top priority for the government.

    “We are deeply saddened by recent incidents. Government is taking proactive steps to swiftly address the situation,” Usman said.

    Usman urged members of the University community to stay calm, remain vigilant, and cooperate with security agencies during this period.

    He noted that government efforts were underway to restore order and ensure the peace and safety of all.

    The SSG assured that the perpetrators of the security breaches would be identified and prosecuted accordingly.

    He reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding law and protecting lives and property across the state.

    Usman appealed for calm and patience, adding that further updates would be provided as the situation evolves.

    The closure followed the killing of a student on Monday, June 23.

    Niger: Gov Bago reacts over deadly Karamin Rami tanker explosion

    Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State has conveyed his deepest condolences to the families and victims of a tanker explosion in Karamin Rami of Mashegu Local Government Area of the State.

    In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the governor described the incident as “unfortunate, worrisome and traumatic”.

    “It is a difficult moment for the state and his prayers are with the families of the victims, the injured and entire people of the area,” he added.

    He stated that his administration had demonstrated a determination and capacity to improve on the poor road infrastructure across the state through the ongoing statewide road constructions, and would not relent in its efforts.

    He urged all the road users, especially tanker drivers, to drive with utmost caution and a sense of responsibility.

    The governor prayed for the repose of the souls of those that died in the explosion as well as quick recovery for the injured ones.

    He promised that the State Government through the relevant MDAs would provide support to the survivors and families of the deceased.

    Bago commended the management and staff of the State Emergency Management Agency for its quick response and support and urged them to carry out thorough assessment for further interventions.

    Recall that a tanker explosion in Karamin Rami, on Tuesday, left seven persons dead, one injured and many farmlands destroyed.

    According to the report, the tanker was said to have fallen, while trying to manoeuvre its way off a bad portion of the road.

    It was further learnt that the content spilled on the road and into a nearby stream, where dry season farmers were working on their rice fields.

    The fuel reportedly came in contact with a water pump in use by the farmers and ignited a fire that spread back to the tanker, leading to an explosion.

    The fire, however, extended to the farmlands through the contaminated stream and burnt some farmers and many farmlands. The injured victim was said to be currently receiving treatment at a health centre in the area.

    The Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has congratulated the Governor of Niger State, Hon. Umar Mohammed Bago, as he clocks 51 on Saturday, saying the governor is a blessing to his people.

    Speaker Abbas, while commending the ‘Farmer Governor’ for revolutionising agriculture in Niger State, noted that the impact of the reforms is being felt across Nigeria.

    The Speaker specifically hailed Governor Bago for prioritising food production at a time the country is making efforts to diversify the economy from oil.

    Speaker Abbas said Governor Bago excelled as a member of the House of Representatives and is presently one of the best performing governors in the country.

    While wishing Governor Bago many more years on earth, in service to this fatherland, Speaker Abbas prayed to Allah to grant him good health and wisdom to continue to manage the affairs of Niger State.

    Niger Govt declares 7-day holiday for workers

    Gov. Mohammed Bago of Niger has approved a seven-day public holiday for workers to celebrate Christmas and New Year.

    This is contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Bologi Ibrahim on Thursday in Minna.
    Ibrahim said that the holiday would begin on Friday, Dec. 22 and end on Jan.1.

    ”The holiday will start from Dec. 22, 2023 to Jan. 1, 2024,” he said.

    He stated that food stuff would be given to government officials for onward distribution to the less privileged in their localities and wards.

    “Don’t stay in Minna, go and share foods with the poor people in your local government areas and wards,” Ibrahim quoted Bago as saying.

    Kanu, Gov Bago , others  receive 2023 Humanitarian Awards

    Nwankwo Kanu, ex-Nigerian international and founder of Kanu Heart Foundation, Gov. Mohammed  Bago of Niger State and founder of Bago Foundation have been honoured with 3023 Humanitarian Awards.

    They were recognized alongside other charitable individuals and organisations at the 2023 Humanitarian Awards and Magazines (HAM) ceremony   on Saturday night in Abuja.

    Other Nigerians who were honoured with the awards include Dr Gideon Osi, founder, Gideon and Joy  Foundation (GJF), Fatima Akilu and Hon. Munira Tanimu,

    Other recipients include Umar Bindir, Hon. Sagir  Koki, Fatima Mamman- Daura, Jude Eze, Tukur  Lawal ,Peter Akpanke,Emmanuel Ikechukwu  and Hajiya Noyinmot OBusari, Founder NOBU Foundation.

    Mr Emmanuel Anabueze, Project Director of the HAM  awards, said the initiative was to honour charitable individuals and organisations that were committed to humanitarian interventions and activities in  support of underprivileged persons.

    According to him, recipients of the humanitarian recognition include individuals, NGOs and corporate bodies who have use their resources to promote humanitarian initiatives and positive influence on communities, especially in challenging times.

    “This event is a testament to the power of kindness, empathy and the unwavering dedication of our humanitarians who tirelessly work towards creating a better world for all.

    “ Each person we recognize tonight represents a beacon of hope, spreading light in the darkest corners, and offering solace to those in need.

    “The Humanitarian Award and Magazine serve as a platform to highlight and acknowledge the exemplary efforts of these extraordinary individuals, their stories, actions, and impact  inspire us to strive for a more inclusive and caring society.

    Some NGOs that received the humanitarian awards include Compassionate Advocacy for the Poor initiative, Secure the Future International Initiative, Sparkle Foundation and the Alkaita Legacy Foundation.

    The highpoint of the event was the unveiling of the Humanitarian magazines by guests and awardees and sections of scintillating performances by different artistes.
