Funke Akindele’s mum died when most needed – PDP women leader

The Lagos State PDP Women Leader, Alhaja Idowu Akinsanya, has commiserated with the party’s deputy governorship candidate, Ms Funke Akindele, on the demise of her mother, Dr R. B. Adebanjo-Akindele.

Akinsanya in a statement said the death of the mother of the veteran Nollywood actress came as a rude shock to the women wing in the party.

According to her, the death of Akindele’s mother came when she was most needed in the build-up to the elections.

“We lost her at this period that all the women in Lagos needed her most,” Akinsanya said.

She, however, said that Funke Akindele mother’s death would not discourage the campaign toward ensuring victory for the party.

Akinsanya said that women in the party would move closer to Akindele and support her vision to give back to the women in society and the less privileged when emerged as the deputy governor.

She said that the party’s governorship candidate, Dr Abdul-Azeez Adediran (JANDOR) and Akindele had been working hard to make sure PDP wins the election.

“Lagos women will stand firm and throw their weight behind Jandor and Funke Akindele during this crucial period.

“This will not weaken their effort or deter them from the dream ahead, but rather will make them stronger and more focused,” she said.

She prayed that God would grant Akindele the fortitude to bear the loss, urging all PDP members to keep praying for the party’s deputy governorship candidate.

Adebanjo-Akindele’s death was announced on Tuesday evening by Funke’s sister, Olubunmi Akindele, on her Instagram page on behalf of the families of Adebanjo and Akindele.

Growing up I told my mom about a guy that had crush on me- Simi

Simi Ogunleye, Nigerian singer better known as Simi, said she opened up about a guy who had a crush on her when she was younger to her mother.

Simi made this known during a new episode of her talkshow tagged ‘Stoopid Sesssions’.

Making reference to how she was brought up as a girl in an African home, the ‘Jamb Question’ crooner said: “I had the better end of the bargain as a Nigerian child growing up because my mom was my friend .If I had a crush on a guy, I will tell her.

“There was this guy that had a crush on me and wanted to take me out to the cinema. I told him to come and tell my mom. He came and told her and also informed her about the time I will be back. She didn’t make me feel like I had to hide anything from her . I was comfortable enough to always go to her and because she had always given me some boundaries, and I know she has given me a certain level of freedom and trusted me , it also helped to curb my excesses. I didn’t want to disappoint her because of the level of trust she had in me” She said.

Expressing her dissatisfaction about gender roles in Africa, she said:”Women are groomed to learn how to cook, to clean the house, to be a homemaker, while the male child is trained to be the head of the house. That circle has continued for a long time. So when women grow up, they believe that is the purpose for their life”.

  • I miss everything about my mother- Chioma Akpotha

Sensational actress, Chioma Akpotha, took to her Instagram page on the 22nd of May 2019 to celebrate the life of her mother who died about five years ago.

Speaking in a chat with Punch, she said her mom died with 90 per cent of her secrets.

“It has been five years that my mother has died and till date, I still miss everything about her. Being the first daughter, she was my best friend but whenever I misbehaved, she hardly used a cane on me, instead, she would use her hand, slippers, pestle, among other things. She was left handed but I always forgot that aspect whenever she was beating me, so there were times that I would expect the slap on the right cheek and would have guarded the right side of my face only for the slap to land on the left side. I miss her a lot. My mother went to her grave with about 90 per cent of my secret and that is how close I was to my mother. She was practically my backbone.

Recalling how her late mom was helpful to her during the birth of her son, she said: “When I had my first son, my mother stayed with us for about a year. Although she had a restaurant at the time, she abandoned it to look after my child and would accompany me to the various movie sets I had to attend. She was running her business from the movie location. I miss everything about her. There is a saying that Igbo people have which states, ‘the day you lose your mother is the day you lose your God. Her death has thrown me into the open but I believe she is now an angel who watches over me from up above and she is fighting for me”.

“And please, keep in mind that we’ve been in the industry for almost 15 years. Then came the unfortunate past Friday, when Dammy Krane got arrested trying to board a flight from Maimi to Washington: Maryland. and grand theft. Dammy is a truly gentle and honest citizen of our planet and remains a good ambassador for not just the music industry, but Nigeria as a whole.
