    Plus-sized actress Monalisa Stephen buried in Lagos

    Nigerian actress and filmmaker, Monalisa Stephen, popularly known as Gabacci, has been buried in Lagos amid tears.

    TheNewsGuru reports that the 34-year-old film star died last week after complications from low blood sugar and internal bleeding, though her family has not officially confirmed the exact cause of death.

    Videos from her funeral on Thursday shows loved ones gathered at a cemetery in the Yaba area of Lagos, paying their final respects.

    The emotional videos capture friends and family mourning at her graveside.

    Her epitaph honours her as “a gentle soul, a radiant light, who loved deeply, lived kindly, and left a mark that time can’t erase”. It concludes with the touching tribute: “Forever in our hearts”.

    In a 2022, Monalisa revealed during her interview, she had been battling diabetes since the age of 10. She also disclosed she was living with tinnitus and spoke candidly about facing brutal online trolling and betrayals from people she trusted.

    Actress Monalisa Stephen, will be buried on Thursday, May 22, at Atan Cemetery in Lagos, according to her family.

    TheNewsGuru reports that Monalisa Stephen died on Wednesday, May 13th after battling low blood sugar and internal bleeding.

    In a statement posted on her official Instagram account, the family confirmed that the burial will be a private interment ceremony scheduled for noon.

    They requested continued prayers and respect for her memory during this difficult time.

    “We lay our beloved Monalisa Ayobami Stephen to rest this Thursday, May 22nd, 2025. In honour of her wishes and the family’s, this will be a private ceremony. We ask for continued prayers and respect for her memory during this time. Forever in our hearts,” the statement read.

    Monalisa, aged 34, was known for her roles in films such as ‘Breaded Life’ (2021) and ‘Mami Wata’ (2023), and for her passionate advocacy for plus-size women, mental health awareness, and self-love.

    The Chief Executive Officer of Best of Nollywood (BON) Seun Oloketuyi, via his Instagram on Wednesday announced the sad news, disclosing that the controversial actress died yesterday, May 13th after battling low blood sugar and internal bleeding.

    He added that the deceased actress’ sister confirmed her passing. Sharing the photo, he wrote: “Brand influencer Monalisa Ayobami Stephen is dead,she died yesterday in Lagos after losing the fight against Low sugar and internal bleeding, Her immediate younger sister confirmed the death of this hardworking and beautiful soul.”

    Nollywood actress Monalisa Stephen has opened up about her experience in an abusive relationship.

    The big-sized actress, during an interview with Saturday Beats, disclosed that the whole experience was unexpected and painful as she did not recognize the abuse for what it was until it turned physical.

    She said, “I didn’t realize it was happening to me

    “I’d heard other women talk about abuse, but I never thought it could happen to me. I used to think,

    ‘I’m a big woman, why would anyone want to hurt me?’ But abuse isn’t about your size.

    “Anyone can be a victim, whether you’re large or not. When I got that first slap, I was in shock. It came out of nowhere and over something so insignificant.

    “I was dazed. The whole experience was unexpected and painful because I trusted him.”

    Despite knowing he wasn’t on her level, the actress expressed regret for lowering her standards to date him.

    “This person continued to beat and humiliate me. When I confronted him, asking why he was doing this, he told me his friend advised him that women like me needed to be ‘bent’ to be dominated. That completely changed how I saw some men,” she added

    Controversial Nollywood actress, Monalisa Stephen, has revealed that she’s in an open relationship with two men.

    The body positivity activist, who is never shy to share interesting details about her personal life, made this revelation in a recent interview, a recent episode of ‘Love or Lies’ by popular YouTuber, Korty EO.

    When asked about her relationship status, she explained that although she is seeing someone, since they are not married, she is open to dating other men as well.

    Speaking further, she mentioned that she had previously dated two men who knew each other.

    She said, “I’m in an open relationship. Before now I was dating two guys and they knew each other.”

    Asked how she managed to keep multiple partners, she said, “I do it through way men do it. It’s not a lot. But I actually want to drop one.”

    Just recently, Monalisa caused a stir when she disclosed that she and her boyfriend once had intercourse 27 times in one day.

    According to her, she had gone to visit her lover and he made love to her for a whole day.

    “He f*cked me 27 times, we were just together and it happened. One particular day I went to see him and he f*cked me 27 times”, she said.

    Her revelation elicited a barrage of reactions from social media users.

    According to her, “Everyone knows that I have always liked older men. I use to be ashamed to say it but now, I can say it with my full chest. I love dating older men. And yes, men in their 60s and above. And if I ever consider marriage, I’ll end up with men in that age bracket.

    I just want to be with someone and we enjoy life together. He doesn’t have to put a ring on it to prove his love. Marriage is overrated. I also don’t want to have kids; I want to adopt kids.     “I used to feel quite insecure about my backside. I would ask my late mum why my sisters got the best butt shape except me. So, I concluded that having a flat butt was my punishment. It really used to get to me a lot.”

    “Some days, I used to wear butt pads for support. In fact, sometime ago, I almost paid for a liposuction. I asked myself if I will be truly happy after the surgery and deep down the answer was ‘no’. So, at the end of the day, it didn’t really matter. Now, I don’t care. I am not against liposuction; you’re free to change what you don’t like about your body. Just make sure you’re doing it for you and not anyone. Life’s short. Be happy and love yourself first”.

    Plus-sized ladies are sometimes berated and body shamed on social media yet actress and social media influencer, Monalisa Stephen, has become known for championing the causes of plus-sized women on social media.

    In an interview with TheNewsGuru, Stephen noted that she has no regrets being plus-sized.

    “I got my first international deal as a plus-sized model, a lot of things have happened to me because I am plus sized so I don’t have any regrets”, she said.

    Asides from featuring in comedy skits, the busty role interpreter said she has plans to feature in more Nollywood movies.

    “I have plans to be well known in Nollywood.I will continue to keep on working.Yes I am good actress, a talented one.I can interpret any role”.

    The model also recounted that plus-sized women work twice as hard as any other person because of the way they are being portrayed. She added that it’s hard being plus-sized in this part of the world.

    “In Nigeria fats girls work twice as hard as any other person.As a plus-sized it’s really hard but we just have to keep on working.I have been fighting for a stand in the plus-sized community for ten years now so we are finally making headway.i am happy.

    Outspoken plus-size model, Monalisa Stephen has opened on how she felt on the day guys made jest of her boobs.

    “Few weeks ago, I was at the market and some guys were making jest of me, calling me crazy. They kept shouting and making fun of my breasts. It was embarrassing because they created a scene. I didn’t like the outcome”, she told The Sun.

    Speaking further, Stephen noted that she wants bigger boobs.

    “I have embraced my body; especially my boobs, but I don’t see it as my unique selling point. I just feel like my boobs are a part of my body and I can’t cut them off. Basically for me, my lips and face are my selling points, especially my lips. I don’t have any regret about my body. People can think of anything. For now, I have not had any breast enhancement surgery. But in future, yes, I may have it because I love big boobs. I want bigger boobs”.

     

    On if she would opt for butt enlargement, she said:”I love my body. I tell people to embrace themselves and be comfortable in their skin. I don’t see any reason why I should do any butt enlargement, mine is perfect for my shape and size. But you know, women and vanity, maybe later. But for now, no. I am not doing any butt enlargement.”

    I’m trying to keep calm. It’s not easy staying at home, but since I’m a content creator, I’m using it to my advantage. I keep myself busy by creating content and reading.
