    Davido’s Logistics Manager, Israel Afeare, popularly known as Isreal DMW, has taken to social media to urge the incumbent Governor of Edo state, Monday Okpebholo, to resign.

    Israel DMW appeal comes at the heels of the killing of sixteen hunters who were travelling from the North on a hunting expedition to Rivers state, at Udune Efandion in the Esan North Local Government of the state.

    Taking to his Instagram, the logistics manager noted that the entire state has not been peaceful since Okpebholo emerged as governor.

    He further asked Okpebholo to hand over power to Asue Ighodalo of the People Democratic Party(PDP)  ‘who majority of we edolites truly voted as Governor.”

    He wrote: “Edo 2024. My dear Governor Okpebholo. I want to specially beg and advise that you resign and immediately hand over to Asue Ighodalo, who majority of we edolites truly voted as our Governor sir. The entire state, has not had one single peace, since you took over sir.

    “The ANCESTORS, are fully angry with the pure robbery that took place. Some Heads are too very strong to be cheated.

    “Some robberies sometimes dnt get successful. We know you have connections to cover everything sir. We know the real truth of what transpired would come out many years later, like June 12 sir. Thank you sir.”

    Edo governor Okpebholo approves N1 Billion soft loans for market women on International Women’s Day

    In commemoration of International Women’s Day, Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo has announced a significant empowerment initiative for market women in the state. Okpebholo has approved N1 billion in soft loans to support women entrepreneurs, aiming to boost their businesses and improve their livelihoods.

    During an event celebrating International Women’s Day, the governor praised Edo women for their dedication, steadfastness, and commitment to the state’s progress. He emphasized the importance of empowering women, recognizing their crucial role in driving economic growth and development.

    In his words:  “Since I assumed office as Governor of Edo State, this is the first event that has been very colourful. I have been coming to the Festival Hall in Government House but have never seen a colourful event like this.”

    “We can actually do nothing as men without women, and that was why when a memo came before me on soft loan approval, I quickly approved N1 billion for our market women.

    “The process is already ongoing, and we are talking to the relevant financial institution for disbursement as the money is ready and it is credited only to Edo women.”

    “The women are truthful and straightforward. When they assure you of their backing, just relax and be assured that you will get their backing, especially during the election. Their words are firm”.

    Edesili Okpebholo, Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady in Edo State, echoed the governor’s sentiments, urging women to speak out and assert their voices. She encouraged Edo women to add value, be committed, and pursue excellence in their careers, communities, and personal endeavors.

    The initiative has been commended by Anani, who praised Governor Okpebholo for taking decisive steps towards ensuring equal opportunities and justice for Edo women. This move is seen as a significant step forward in promoting gender equality and empowering women in Edo State.

    As stated by Edesili: “We are all gathered here to celebrate the achievements of women and renew the call for a transformative change. The celebration reminds us of the incredible progress made by women and the world.

    “This year’s theme: ‘Accelerate action,’ is not a mare slogan but a call for urgent inclusion, decisive change, and collaborative efforts.

    Edo govt appoints Idahosa as CSDA general manager

    Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo, has appointed Ms. Ivie Idahosa as the general manager of the Edo State Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA).

    The appointment, which takes immediate effect, was announced in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) on Friday in Benin.

    The statement reads: “Ivie Idahosa holds a Bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics and rural development.

    “She also holds two Master’s degrees, one in International Marketing Management from the prestigious Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland, and another in Data Analytics; Healthcare Services Management from Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey, USA.

    She is a member of several professional bodies in the UK and the USA, including the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and Project Management Professional (PMP).

    Idahosa possesses exceptional skills in Agriculture; Rural Development, Strategic Marketing, Data-Driven Decision-Making, and Healthcare Management.

    ”She has a proven track record of driving growth, enhancing efficiency, and fostering community development.

    “With her expertise and experience, she is committed to making a transformative impact in Edo State, promoting sustainable development, and improving the quality of life for Edo communities,” the statement added.

    The statement also highlighted that Ivie Idahosa is a native of Ehor in Uhunmwode local government of Edo.

    “Until her appointment, Idahosa served as a principal manager at Cooper University Hospital, a renowned research hospital in New Jersey, USA”.

    Okpebholo restores N100m monthly subvention to Edo varsity

    Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has restored the N100 million monthly subvention to Edo university Iyamoh, which was stopped by the immediate past administration.

    Okpebholo disclosed this at the 6th convocation ceremony of the institution held at Iyamoh, Edo, on Thursday.

    Okpebholo, represented by the Commissioner for Energy and Water Resources, Dr Washington Osifo said the governor was willing to increase the money.

    “Gov Monday Okpebholo has restored the N100million monthly subvention back to Edo university Iyamoh.

    “The N100million monthly subvention was inially withdraw by the past administration.

    “And Okpebholo thought it wise to restore the money so that the institution can function well,” Osifo said.

    He, however, assured the institution of the state government commitment to ensure better education for the people of Edo.

    Earlier, the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dawood Egbefo said 570 students graduated from the institution.

    “This year, we proudly celebrate the graduation of 570 students across various all disciplines, a testament to our institution’s dedication to excellence.

    “Among these graduates, we are delighted to announce the following classifications: 14 First-Class Honours; 145 Second-Class Honours (Upper Division), 190 Second-Class Honours (Lower Division), 35 Third-Class Honours, 46 Medical and Surgery Graduates 140 Postgraduates, including 20 PhD recipients,” Egbefo said.

    He congratulated the graduands and wish them well in their future eandevour.

    “To our graduates, I urge you to carry forward the values of excellence, integrity, and innovation that Edo University Iyamho has instilled in you.

    “This is not the end of your journey but the beginning of a new chapter filled with endless possibilities. Embrace challenges with confidence.

    “Continue to learn and grow, and above all, remain committed to making a positive impact in the world.

    “The future belongs to those who dare to dream, innovate, and work tirelessly to achieve their goals,” he said.

    Egbefo said Edo University Iyamho had remained steadfast in its mission to provide a world-class education while maintaining an uninterrupted academic calendar.

    According to him, this stability had allowed students to graduate on time, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to make meaningful contributions to society.

    The acting VC noted that education is a transformative journey, saying that the graduates had demonstrated that with discipline, perseverance, and the right support, excellence was attainable.

    “Edo university Iyamho have consistently sought to provide a learning environment that meets global academic standards.

    “The institution have made significant investments in infrastructure and technology to ensure that students receive the highest quality education.

    “One of our most notable achievements is our adoption of cutting-edge educational technologies that enhance teaching and learning,” he said.

    He expressed gratitude to the Edo Government for his unwavering support rendered to the university.

    He, however appealed to the state government to assist the university in completing the uncompleted projects in the institution.

    “This projects include the University Teaching Hospital, Senate Building and the Faculty of Law etc,” he said.

    Highpoint of the ceremony was the conferment of Honourary Doctorate Degree on the former governor of Edo and Senator, representing Edo North Adams Oshiomhole.

    The same degree was given to Vincent Agenmomen, Chairman, Freedom Group of Nigeria for their illustrious careers and contributions to the development of Nigeria.

    100 Days in office: Gov Okpebholo lists achievements in Edo

    Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State on Thursday described his first 100 days in office as a journey focused on rebuilding and restoring Edo’s full potential.

    Speaking at an event organised to mark the 100 days in Benin, he said his administration had laid a strong foundation for the future by improving key sectors, including the economy, healthcare, and infrastructure.

    “When we assumed office, Edo had immense potential but was burdened by challenges like poor infrastructure, struggling businesses, and a public sector in desperate need of reform.

    “From the onset, our vision was clear, to restore leadership trust, create opportunities, and set Edo on a path towards sustainable and long-term economic growth.

    “We have made notable progress, though much remains to be done. Our administration increased Edo’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to over N10 billion, the highest ever recorded.

    “We eliminated wasteful consultants and reinvested resources into improving public service efficiency, ensuring Edo thrives economically while creating sustainable job opportunities for our citizens,” he said.

    Okpebholo said that his administration launched an interest-free loan scheme, which benefited over 5,000 market women, farmers, and artisans to strengthen small businesses.

    He disclosed that, in collaboration with the World Bank, the government disbursed grants to over 400 small business owners, helping them navigate prevailing economic challenges effectively.

    To combat rising food costs, Okpebholo noted that he banned market unions responsible for price inflation, adding that prices had reduced significantly and essential goods were more affordable for Edo residents.

    On healthcare, Okpebholo reiterated his government’s commitment to citizens’ wellbeing, including launching South-South Nigeria’s first VVF centre in Edo and offering free malaria treatment for two years.

    “On security and infrastructure, we amended laws to fight cultism and kidnapping, recovered 3,500 illegal firearms, procured 75 Toyota Hilux vehicles and motorcycles to enhance security.

    “Infrastructure projects are progressing, including the historic Ramat Park Flyover, which will ease congestion in Benin and improve transportation across Edo State,” he added.

    According to him, the hybrid infrastructure masterplan, in partnership with federal and local governments, will bridge immediate gaps while ensuring long-term prosperity and job creation statewide.

    Also speaking, the National Chairman of APC, Umar Ganduje, who led members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to the event, commended the governor for his developmental strides.

    Ganduje noted that the governor was no doubt a progressive and a performing governor that would deliver the benefits of democracy to Edo people.

    The Guest lecturer and former governor of Edo, Sen. Adams Oshiomhole, who spoke on practical governance, a new Edo has risen, said Edo was truly rising under Okpebholo’s administration.

    Oshiomole noted that the current administration had demonstrated practical governance in the last 100 days, adding that there were evidences to show for his achievements.

    He added that the administration, led by Okpebholo, was working without signing MoUs and hiring consultants to help develop the state.

    “The Governor is a man who talks less but work more and in 100 days, we have more achievements to show to Edo people.

    “What Edo people want is for your administration to continue to create the enabling environment for them to thrive,” Oshiomole said.

    The Chairman of the Planning Committee and Deputy Governor of the state, Dennis Idahosa, in his welcome address, said the occasion was to take stock of the achievements of the Okpebholo led administration in the last 100 days.

    Edo govt reclaims stated-owned printing press

    Edo State Government (EDSG) on Friday reclaimed the state-owned Nigerian Observer Printing Press from Fountain Brook Publishing Limited, which managed the printing press since 2022.

    Recall that former governor Godwin Obaseki had shut down the state-owned newspaper, The Observer, on June 30, 2022, and handed it over to Fountain Brooks Publishing ltd as consultants.

    The staff were subsequently redeployed to the state’s Ministry of Information and Communication.

    The Governor, Monday Okpebholo, while reclaiming the printing press, directed the former staff to return to work under a new management team led Mr Sylvester Oboh as the general manager.

    Oboh noted that since 1968, The Observer had projected government policy thrust, served institutions, and informed the general public.

    Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr Paul Ohonbamu commended Fountain Brook Publishing Limited, led by Chike Madueke, for peacefully handing over the printing press to the state government.

    He reiterated that the primary mandate of The Observer was to print for the grassroots about happenings in government.

    “We need to provide the people with good news. We are excited to retrieve the printing press and strategize on training staff on its operations.

    “We assure the people of Edo of quality news,” Ohonbamu said.

    Chike Madueke, CEO of Fountain Brook Publishing Limited, stated that handing over the printing press to the state government was the right thing to do, as it was the government’s property.

    Chief Press Secretary to the Edo Governor, Mr Fred Itua, and senior officials in the Ministry of Information and Communication witnessed the ceremony.

    Edo govt suspends Attorney-General, LG commission chair

    The Edo Government has announced the suspension of its Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Samson Osagie and the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Damian Lawani.

    Mr Musa Ikhilor, Secretary to the State Government (SSG) announced the suspension in a statement in Benin on Thursday morning.

    Ikhilor said the two state top officials were suspended over allegations of “grave official and financial interactions”.

    According to him, the suspension, which takes immediate effect, is pending the conclusion of an investigation into the allegations.

    “It is hereby announced for the information of the general public that the Gov.  Monday Okpebholo has approved the suspension from office of the Chairman of Edo  Local Government Service Commission, Damian Lawani and Commissioner for Justice, Samson Osagie over allegations of grave official and financial infractions.

    “The suspension is with immediate effect. Consequently, the governor has ordered the setting up of an Investigative Committee to investigate the allegations levelled against them and make appropriate recommendations accordingly.

    “The suspension of Osagie and Lawani became necessary to enable the Government carry out a thorough investigation into the allegation of financial infractions levelled against them.

    “The suspension is pending the conclusion of the investigation,” the SSG said.

    The suspension came less than three months after the two officials were appointed.

    Gov Okpebholo inaugurates AAU Governing Council

    Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State on Tuesday inaugurated the Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma Governing Council, charging them to restore the institution’s lost glory.

    Speaking at the inauguration in Benin, Okpebholo said that education remained the bedrock of development, hence, AAU had a critical role in achieving the goal.

    He urged the council members to restore the institution’s lost glory, work with dedication, vision, and responsibility, hence, the need for collective efforts to re-establish the university as a centre of academic excellence.

    “Education is fundamental to development, and AAU holds a special place in Edo State, having produced some of Nigeria’s finest minds over the years.

    “As part of efforts to revive AAU, my administration increased its monthly subvention from N41 million to N500 million, a major step towards sustainability.

    “This bold move underscores our commitment to AAU’s revival. We also introduced special interventions to accelerate infrastructure development for students and staff,” Okpebholo said.

    He highlighted his administration’s intervention in resolving challenges faced by over 100 medical students, ensuring their academic progress and future success.

    “To the governing council members, this is your opportunity to leave a lasting impact. You were chosen because we trust your ability to restore AAU’s prestige.

    “To the university community, management, staff, and students, be assured that this administration will continue to support you in every possible way,” the governor said.

    In his remarks, the Council Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih, thanked the governor for giving them the opportunity to serve, pledging the council’s commitment to AAU’s development.

    Orbih said that education was key to Edo State’s future, as AAU’s role in the state’s progress could not be over-emphasised.

    “It is evident from your decisive actions that this administration is determined to restore AAU’s lost glory and reposition it for excellence,” he said.

    The council members included Prof. Friday Okonofua, Prof. Steve Amiemenkharu, Mr Lukman Muhammad, Prof. Idialu Jeremiah Uwaifo,  Prof. Eric Omogbai and Prof. Omoruyi Osahon.

    Dignitaries at the event included Deputy Gov. Dennis Idahosa, the SSG, Mr Musa Ikhilor; Chief of Staff Gani Audu, and former Deputy Gov. Comrade Phillip Shaibu.

    Edo Gov appoints ex-THISDAY Editor as SA on Intl Development Partners

    Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved the appointment of Mr Collins Edomaruse, popularly known as General as his Special Adviser on International Development Partners.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Mr Edomaruse is a Fellow of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (FNGE) and a member of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers of Nigeria (GOCOP).

    He is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of METROWATCH, an online newspaper. Before then, Edomaruse had held several senior Editorial positions in THISDAY, including Group News Editor, Group Politics Editor, Deputy Editor (Daily, Saturday and Sunday titles), and Editor, Nation’s Capital/Abuja Bureau.

    He is also a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), the Co-Founder, Igbanke Unity Forum (IUF), and served in the Edo State Inauguration Planning Committee for Governor Okpepholo.

    Edomaruse, who hails from the Igbanke area of Edo State, attended Asaba Technical College, Delta State. He holds a postgraduate degree in Communications Studies.

    Governor Okpebholo expressed confidence in his ability to navigate complex international partnerships, stating, “I believe Collins will fearlessly champion our stories and drive impactful initiatives that benefit our state.”

    Edo assembly receives commissioner, EDSIEC nominees for confirmation

    Meanwhile, the Edo House of Assembly on Wednesday received a list of commissioner nominees from Governor Okpebholo for screening and confirmation.

    The list of the commissioner nominees is contained in a letter titled, “request for the confirmation of commissioner nominees”, dated Jan. 7, 2025.

    The governor urged the Assembly to confirm Paul Ohonbamu, Washington Osifo, Paddy Iyamu, Andrew Ijegbai, Henry Oladisi Idahomen, and Lucky Eseigbe as commissioners in the state.

    The Speaker, Blessing Agbabaku, during an emergency plenary on Wednesday in Benin, referred the governor’s letter to the House Standing Committee on Rules and Business, with a mandate to submit its report in one week.

    Similarly, another letter from the governor, dated Dec. 19, 2024, also requested the lawmakers’ confirmation of members of Edo State Independent Electoral Commission
    (EDSIEC).

    The EDSIEC nominees include, Jonathan Aifuobhokhan, Anthony Aigbokhomhan, Suleiman Ikhuoria, Umoru Frank, Imafidon Osarodion, Asein Ojo Victor, and Ighomo Egharevba Thomas.

    The Speaker directed the House Standing Committee on Rules and Business to screen the EDSIEC nominees and submit its report within one week for further legislative action.

    In another development, the House deliberated on a bill to repeal the Secret Cult Prohibition Law 2018 and replace it with the 2024 version.

    The bill was referred to the House Standing Committee on Security, with instructions to conduct a thorough review and report back in one week.

    Speaking further, the speaker noted that the emergency sitting was convened in spite of the lawmakers being on vacation to address urgent issues affecting governance in the state.

    Gov Okpebholo reacts as Warri refinery resumes operations

    Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has congratulated President Bola Tinubu and NNPC Ltd. for restarting the 125,000 barrels per day Warri Refinery.

    In a statement on Tuesday in Benin, Okpebholo expressed excitement over the Warri refinery’s restoration, calling it a significant milestone for Nigeria’s petroleum sector.

    He added that the restart of the refinery is a monumental achievement for Nigeria’s energy sector and a step towards greater national development.

    He praised President Tinubu’s reforms in the petroleum sector, noting the positive impact on the economy and urging Nigerians to support the ongoing changes.

    Okpebholo highlighted the importance of the Warri, Port Harcourt, and Dangote refineries working together, adding that they signaled a promising future for Nigeria’s petroleum industry.

    He joined other Nigerians in congratulating President Tinubu and NNPCL’s Managing Director, Mr Mele Kyari for reviving the Warri refinery.

    “For me, this is certainly a New Year gift to Nigerians. Edo will continue to support the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government to make Nigeria a hub for crude oil refining in Africa,” he said.
