I didn’t use my money to buy anything two months after BBNaija –Dorathy Bachor

Reality Tv star Dorathy Bachor, has said months after leaving the Big Brother House, she didn’t spend her money on anything, adding that she kept getting gifts.

In an interview with media personality, Toke Makinwa, Bachor said, “For two months after the show, I did not use my money to buy anything. I was constantly getting gifts and I still do not understand it. I felt that because people watched me every day and there is something about me they can relate to, they wanted to show me love and give me gifts.”

The social media influencer also confessed that when she first got into the reality show, she felt self-conscious.

“I was conscious of myself while I was in the house. I was always particular about my angles. It was not about me not being myself. It was about me being on camera for the first time, so I had to check in on every part of myself. For the first few weeks, I was really conscious but at some point, It just felt like living my life.

“I am someone who always wants to be behind the scene. I was scared of public opinions and how people would see me. I visited blogs sometimes and I saw how ‘crazy’ people could be and how they always had opinions about other people, and I didn’t want that for myself. I was just that girl hustling and trying to make ends meet but it wasn’t working. I could not maintain one job and I remember that I was running two jobs. However, I got fired from one and had to leave the second one too. I also got frustrated but I knew that business was what I really wanted to do. I wanted a platform where people could see me and know what I do. That was why I went into the show (BBN).”

  • FG does not understand how technology-start ups make money, only to borrow from CBN – Chidoka

FG does not understand how technology-start ups make money, only to borrow from CBN – Chidoka

Former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, on Saturday said the Federal Government does not have a grasp of how technology start-ups make money.

Mr Chidoka, who is a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, was speaking at The Platform, a televised event hosted by the Senior Pastor of Covenant Nation, Poju Oyemade and which seeks to spark conversations that can aid national development.

“What is the average age of our cabinet,” Mr. Chidoka said. “Our cabinet does not reflect Nigeria. They cannot understand Paystack, they cannot understand Flutterwave. They cannot understand Kobo360.

“They don’t know how to tax them. The tax authorities are taxing their revenues, because they think that all the money received by Kobo360 is revenue. No, it is money they are receiving as an aggregator.

“So we need young people like you to be the Chairman of the FIRS. That’s what we need. We need people who understand.

“We can’t help them. Mr. President cannot understand it. The APC government does not understand it. They are too old to understand it. What they understand is borrowing money from the Central Bank.”

Mr. Chidoka explained that the relatively new crop of technology innovators are part of a new Nigeria he described as ‘Naija’.

“We need to unlock Naija,” he said. “It is not the responsibility of the structuralists. They are deceiving us, to make us keep looking at that day when we will change our constitution and El-Dorado will come. No, they are planning how they will take over in that new El-Dorado. “

IPOB denies plans to attack banks, others to source money for arms

The outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has dismissed alleged plans by its security outfit, Eastern Security Network (ESN), to attack banks in the Southeast for the purpose of acquire money to purchase arms as false.

The group described the report as propaganda by the security agencies to blackmail and dent the global reputation of the security network.

In a statement i by the Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, IPOB assured financial institutions in the zone of their safety, just as it warned the security agencies to desist from spreading such propaganda.

The statement reads: “We the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great and indomitable Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, wish to put banks in Biafra land on notice of a wicked plot by the Nigeria security agencies to harm them.

“Our intelligence unit has uncovered a fabricated propaganda by the Department of State Services DSS, that Eastern Security Network, ESN is planning to attack banks in Biafraland to acquire money to purchase arms.

“DSS is propelling this wicked propaganda all in a bid to blackmail ESN and IPOB, and dent our global reputation. We therefore, wish to debunk this falsehood and blatant lie from the pit of hell.

“IPOB and ESN are not criminals and we have no plans or agenda to touch any institution particularly banks. We are not looking for money to buy arms because we produce our arms locally and cannot attack or kidnap anybody for ransom.

“We don’t inflict pains on the people we are fighting for their freedom. DSS must stop this rubbish and engage their time on something more meaningful. This poor script cannot fly.

“IPOB and ESN are very disciplined groups, and we cannot indulge in armed robbery against any individual or group. ESN has never left its mandate which is to defend Biafra land against Fulani terrorists and killer herdsmen.

“All banks in Biafraland must be wary of DSS because it is possible they are planning to sponsor attacks on banks and turn around as usual to blame it on IPOB and ESN operatives.

“The double-faced Nigerian security agencies have been staging this kind of attacks in so many places and later point accusing fingers at IPOB and ESN.

“They have tried to blame the attacks on security formations in South East on us but now it is obvious that we are innocent of that, they have quickly changed tact in their desperation to blackmail us and find cheap excuse to declare another special military operation in the zone. Our people should be smart and not buy into their tricks.

“We are waiting for any group of armed robbers who would attempt to attack any bank in Biafraland in attempt to tarnish the reputation of IPOB and ESN. Such band of criminals and their sponsors will regret their action.

“We assure every resident and institution including banks in Biafra land of their safety. We will help resist these criminals the DSS is arranging to attack banks in the name of ESN and IPOB.”

We’re not aware of Obaseki’s claim of currency printing – CBN

The Central Bank of Nigeria and the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning have denied knowledge of the claim that Nigeria printed N50-N60 billion last month to cushion its financial trouble.

The question was raised after Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, claim that Nigeria printed N60bn to augment what the three tiers of government shared in March.

“When we got FAAC for March, the federal government printed additional N50-N60 billion to top-up for us to share,” Obaseki had said.

“This April, we will go to Abuja and share. By the end of this year, our total borrowings is going to be within N15-N16 trillion. Imagine a family that is just borrowing without any means to pay back and nobody is looking at that, everybody is looking at 2023, everybody is blaming Mr. President as if he is a magician.”

However, the spokesperson of CBN, Osita Nwanisobi, told newsmen on Sunday that he was not aware of any money printed.

“I am not aware of that (N60bn printed by the government,” Nwanisobi stated.

Similarly, the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning said questions on the matter should be directed to Governor Obaseki.

The media aide to the finance minister, Yunusa Abdullahi, said “Please direct your questions to the governor who made the claim or the CBN.”

Asked about why she is still single, she said: “For now, there is no man in my life. In fact, it’s complicated. So, I’m still single,”Johnson said.

On if she would consider going under the knife to enhance her beauty, the light skinned entertainer noted:” Never! I have no reason to do that. I’m so contented with my body. I am ‘Teamnatural’. See list of all approved operators with which you can send money to Nigeria

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Monday released a list of approved international money transfer operators with which to send money to Nigeria.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the list released by the CBN followed the introduction of Naira 4 Dollar Scheme by the apex bank in bid to sustain the increase in inflows of diaspora remittances into the country

The list of approved international money transfer operators released by the CBN was last updated on February 28, 2021, sensed to be in line with the new Naira 4 Dollar Scheme.

Recall the CBN announced the new scheme in a circular to all deposit money banks, International Money Transfer Operators (IMTOs), and the public in general.

In the document dated March 5, 2021, and signed by its Director of Trade and Exchange Department, A.S. Jibrin, the apex bank explained that the scheme was an incentive for senders and recipients of international money transfers.

Accordingly, it noted that all recipients of diaspora remittances through IMTOs licensed by the nation’s financial regulator would henceforth be paid N5 for every 1$ received as remittance inflow.

The CBN added that the incentive of N5 for every $1 remitted by the sender and collected by the designated beneficiary would be paid through the commercial banks in Nigeria.

According to it, the incentive is to be paid to recipients whether they choose to collect the USD as cash across the counter in a bank or transfer the same into their domiciliary account.

The apex bank stated that it had discussed the new development with banks and IMTOs, saying the scheme would take effect from March 8 and end on May 8, 2021.

  • What truly is life? – Francis Ewherido

What truly is life? – Francis Ewherido

    Francis Ewherido

My birthdays are always times to reflect on my life and life generally. No birthday is complete without that. But I also like to make my birthdays public. The avalanche of prayers and well wishes I get mean the world to me. But making it public and using it to reflect are inversely related and does create challenges.

Last Tuesday, I almost could not do my birthday reflections. First, I decided to sleep like it was a weekend. By the time I woke up, it was almost 9am and I had many messages and missed calls to return already. From when I woke up till after midnight, when I slept, there was not much time for reflection.

After responding to calls and messages, I went to church with my wife. With the number of deaths in this country, it has become a miracle how people live into their 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and on. Life is cheap here and when you still have yours, you cannot take it for granted. It is purely the mercy of God at work and I felt an obligation to thank Him.

In part, life is about meaning the world to your spouse, life is about having siblings who love, respect and treasure you, love is about having friends who genuinely wish you well, life is about having friends who are better described as brothers and sisters, life is about being loved and appreciated…”

Once I stepped out of the church, my mother called to wish me a happy birthday; she also sang a birthday song and prayed for me. Hers was followed by a call from my mother-in-law, who also prayed and sang a birthday song for me. All my brothers called to wish me happy birthday. My sisters-in-law also called or/and sent messages.

Many friends also called. Emma Esinnah, my friend (he is now a brother) of 37 years was at the house waiting when I got home. All the social and professional bodies I belong to (Urhobo Social Club, Lagos; old students of mass communication, UNN; Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers, etc) celebrated my birthday with me on their WhatsApp pages. Even the Marriage and Family Life Unit of my parish, where we placed a ban on posting of birthdays, broke the rule to wish me a happy birthday. Even when I reminded them, one stubborn sister disobeyed me, their coordinator. On Facebook, there were even more goodwill messages, prayers and well wishes. I just love the prayers and well wishes that come with birthdays. I have never pretended about that. The prayers of the righteous availeth much, how much more many righteous people and children of God praying for you?

In the evening, I was pleasantly surprised to see my eldest brother, Fr. Tony, who had called earlier to wish me happy birthday. He came all the way from Ibadan, in spite of his busy schedule, just to be with me on a normal birthday. That was touching. My youngest brother and eldest nephew also came around. My older cousin (I call her my Lagos Mummy), Mrs. Joyce Tuedor, was there too. It was apparent my wife was at one of her best past times, birthday coup plotting. Where military coups to still be in vogue in Nigeria, the plotters would made her their consultant by now. She had managed to get the phone number of one of my tailors for my Lagos mummy. As I was getting out of the bathroom, I saw a new dress on the bed. That was what I wore to church and it did not leave my body until I went to bed.

My wife also organised a few friends and relatives who live nearby – the Ojeros, Onuorahs, Sargins, Amadis, Oludemis and Adekeyes – to celebrate with me what I had initially planned to be a quiet birthday. I had my initial inkling last Saturday that I was not going to have things my way. My Lagos mummy called that she was coming on Tuesday. Looking fiftyish, but hovering around 70, I have advised her to go out only when it is absolutely important because of the worsening Lagos traffic. When I told my wife that she was coming, she was not surprised. That was when I knew she was plotting again. Luckily, all my children were home and joined in the celebration.

Every year, my little baby gives me a hand-made card on my birthday. The message in this year’s card melted my heart: “HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Thank you for always being there to lend a helping hand. I hope today brings you lots of love, happiness and smiles, dad! I hope the year ahead brings your most exciting adventure yet. To my amazing dad before you blow out the candles take a moment to remember what a wonderful father you are.” She also wrote a birthday “poem” which blew me away:

    Ever since my life began,

I realized that ‘‘You da man”

I saw your wisdom, your courage too

And I learned I could rely on you

Your tolerant nature is really great

    Nevertheless, you’d not hesitate

To let me know when I’d been bad

It must have been hard, but that’s being a dad

You are strong, smart and filled with love

A gift to me from up above

So here’s a greeting from your biggest fan

Happy Birthday, dad, cause ‘‘you da man.’’

As I read her birthday messages, I saw maturity that was beyond 11 years. Her command of English was far better than mine at age 11. Yet we argue that the standard of education is falling. But that is discussion for another day. What gladdened my heart most in her “poem” was her realization that those times I was very hard on her, it was harder on me. We do have our battles when she wastes food or eats and does not wash her plate; when her room looks like a mad house and when she is rude to her seniors. I also felt good that she realizes I scold and discipline her out of love.

After, the last guests left, I went to bed to reflect a little before I slept off. What truly is life? In part, life is about meaning the world to your spouse, life is about having siblings who love, respect and treasure you, love is about having friends who genuinely wish you well, life is about having friends who are better described as brothers and sisters, life is about being loved and appreciated, life is about having friends who publicly affirm you, life is about having Facebook friends you have never met yet celebrate you on their Facebook and other social media pages. Life is about being acknowledged and celebrated by your elders. Life is about being showered with so much love that traducers and those who deliberately diminish you fade into oblivion. Life is about being saturated with so much love you just want to live on and on. Thank you, family; thank you, friends; thank you every one who was part of this celebration of love. God bless you all.

COVID-19: Money alone won’t vaccinate people, says WHO DG

The head of the World Health Organisation (WHO) on Monday chastised high-income countries for undermining the international Covax initiative when trying to secure Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines for their own populations.

Referring to pledged funding for the international vaccine distribution mechanism, WHO Director- General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “Even if you have the money, if you cannot use the money to buy vaccines having the money doesn’t mean anything.’’

Ghebreyesus was speaking after talks with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, whose country has pledged 1.5 billion euros to the scheme.

Without naming names, Tedros said some wealthy countries had approached vaccine manufacturers directly to strike deals and in doing so reduced the amount available to Covax.

The UN health chief stressed the importance of global access to vaccines, “If this virus is not defeated everywhere, we cannot defeat it globally.

“It will have a safe haven somewhere and can strike back.’’

Countries left behind in vaccinating could also become “breeding grounds for new variants,’’ he warned.

Steinmeier conceded that money alone was not the solution, adding that vaccines were still a scarce commodity.

While refusing to be drawn on how many of its doses Germany would donate and when Steinmeier said sharing the vaccines was in everyone’s interest.

“This is not easy but it is a question of humanity,’’ the German head of state said while adding that distributing vaccines, tests, and medicines during the pandemic was a litmus test for global solidarity.

French President Emmanuel Macron has called in recent days on rich nations to donate 4 to 5 per cent of their vaccine stock as quickly as possible.

I prefer money to love, sex- Ella Mensah

Popular Ghanaian actress, Ella Mensah has averred that she prefers money to sex and love.

The busty mother of one in a chat with TheSun said: “For me, money comes before love and then comes sex! That is my preference”.

Speaking on the secret of her successful career, Mensah debunked claims that her sexy body brought her fame.

“My unique selling point is my brains. You see, as a beautiful and curvy woman, most people always assume I am where I am in life because of my body but no, it is actually because of my brains! I keep vital people in my life with my brains! And anyone close to me will tell you that. My intelligence is my selling point.

“The sexiest part of my body is my brain. When people get the chance to meet me and speak with me, they always end up falling for my brains,” she revealed.

TheNewsGuru recalls that Mensah once said she will never reduce the size of her boobs.

In her words: ““Yes, I will consider cosmetic surgery along the way but not to reduce my boobs. My boobs were given to me by God for a reason, so why would I reduce them? There are so many women paying a lot of money to get what God has given to me for free. I will never reduce my natural God-given boobs.”

  • I was a brick layer before fame, things were hard-Zlatan

I was a brick layer before fame, things were hard-Zlatan

Popular Nigerian singer an rapper, Zlatan has opened up on how he worked as a bricklayer before attaining fame.

The ‘Unripe pawpaw’ singer made this known during a recent chat with BBC Pidgin.

“Before fame, things were hard. I was doing bricklaying, cutting grass for people’s foundations, working in a cold room, gambling at game centres so I could earn a living. Now I’m Zlatan Ibile,” the singer said.

“I went to shows and they wouldn’t let me perform. I’d go submit my CD but when it’s time to perform, the DJ doesn’t find it. Even when you perform, the DJ scratches after your first verse to signal one’s time’s up.

“It was university education that eventually helped me, although I didn’t gain admission in time. Before my first semester exams, a competition came up. I won a car, something nobody had owned before in my generation.

“I still had to use the car as a cab because, for three years, my music didn’t meet the success I was aiming at. Most of the time when I’m recording in the studio, it’s my adlib people see.

“Because when I do my adlib, it sounds like I’m making noise; as though a dog is barking. But it’s just the seasoning I’m adding to the soup. I always warn my friends not to video me but they don’t listen. I’ll soon sue them.”

Asked the policy changes he would make if he was made president, Zlatan said: “I’ll legalise weed so I’ll have weed farm in Nigeria because a lot of countries are making money from this thing. It’s not such a big deal as we think it.

“I’ll also embezzle money, pack all the money because that’s what our president and governors go there to do. I’ll pack my own share and hit the exit. I’ll fix the country but I’ll also embezzle money. That’s just the truth.”
