A man identified as Abubakar Ijidai has allegedly attacked his ex-girlfriend and killed her mother in Dille District of Askira/Uba Local Government Area, Borno State.

This was revealed in a post by security analyst, Zagazola Makama on X on Sunday.

Abubakar, who is from the same district, fled the scene immediately after the brutal attack, leaving the two women in a pool of blood.

Police officers from the Lassa Police Outpost later visited the scene and took the victims to the General Hospital in Lassa. Sadly, Hauwa was confirmed dead on arrival, while her daughter was referred to the General Hospital in Mubi, Adamawa State, due to the seriousness of her injuries,” Makama wrote.

Hauwa’s body was released to her family for burial according to Christian tradition.

Makama also said the police are still working hard to find the suspect and make sure he faces justice.

  • “You are a wicked mother” – By Francis Ewherido

“You are a wicked mother” – By Francis Ewherido

“What kind of child is you (sic),” the mother asked the daughter who refused to accede to her request.” When the mother insisted on the daughter doing what she considered inappropriate, she fought back: “What kind of mother are you? You are a very wicked mother.”

Some of us would have been shocked, horrified and lost for words to describe a video that trended last week on TikTok and other social media platforms. A content creator accosted a mother and her daughter walking on the street. The content creator told the woman to tell her daughter to kiss his friend for N100,000. Initially, mother and daughter were taken aback by such an unusual and brazen request. Then they realized that the content creator was serious when he brought out the N100,000. Mother’s and daughter’s reactions differed: The devil called greed took over the mother. She urged the daughter to go ahead and kiss a total stranger. Initially, she thought her mother was joking. Then she was mortified when she realized her mother was serious. She vowed she would never accede to her mother’s request. The mother threw herself on the ground. She tried to force the daughter, but she stood her ground.

At a point the daughter even threatened to hit the mother. It was that bad. The content creator asked the mother if she could do it. She said no, but it was okay for the daughter to do it because she(mother) needed the N100,000. Though she claimed that her refusal to do it “is because I am an old woman,” I bet you that this woman would have done it effortlessly where she alone. She even went on to say that her older daughter would have done it for her. So the older daughter is a “good and obedient child,” while the one in the video is a “useless and disobedient” child. These are the parameters with which some parents are raising their children. The deviants in the society are the “good children,” while the ones with morals are laggards.  But that is serious demarketing for the older daughter because people who know her will probably now see her differently because of her mother’s desperation and careless talk.

I was not really shocked by the moral debasement of the woman. I know some mothers and parents do worse things. Three weeks ago, we talked about parents who sell their assets to send their children abroad to do prostitution and parents who buy phones and laptops for their children to do internet fraud. If some parents have their way they will use their children for money rituals. Parents have been reported to sell their own biological children. So what this woman did is not the most heinous of acts. It’s only graphic because it was it was caught on camera. It’s more like the thief who was caught in the act, whereas many other thieves have stolen and got away scot free.

But what happened buttresses my argument that the rot in our society today was not caused by government only. In fact, it starts from the home front. But there is also something very gratifying. Even if some people are raised by parents with defective morals, they don’t necessarily follow their parents’ footsteps. People can chart a different path for themselves. There is a common saying that the “apple does not fall far from the tree,” which is another way of saying that “like mother like daughter.” But thank God not all trees are apples. Some fruits actually fall further from the trees that bore them. That is what this young lady did. She is certainly not an apple fruit, maybe the elder sister the mother mentioned is.

May greed not direct the way we live our lives. The woman said she gets N200,000 monthly from her husband who apparently does not live under the same roof with her. She also does cleaning jobs to supplement the income from her husband, so she probably earns more than three times the N70,000 minimum wage, which many Nigerians earn. It is still a small amount compared to the cost of living, but there are women who get far less every month who will not do the obnoxious thing she did.

My second reaction today is a sordid video in a school. The female student was in the class with some male students (I am sorry; I don’t want to watch the video again to get the accurate number). I do not know what transpired earlier but the male student is apparently a bully. I know them when I see them because I was in school with some of them in primary and secondary school. They are not satisfied until they beat or humiliate their victim. The male student was apparently the aggressor because he went to where the female student was standing. He squared up to her with their bodies touching. It can be interpreted to squaring up for a fight or he wanted the girl’s breasts to touch him. Boys at that age do it for naughty reasons.

A fight broke out with all the male students watching. He slammed the female student to the floor. For a moment, my heart skipped when she lay still before pulling down her uniform to cover her undies which were exposed when she was slammed to the ground. The male students all cheered. Mission accomplished. She has been humiliated and the icing on the cake was seeing her undies. As I watched, so many thoughts and emotions flooded my mind. If she were my daughter…., let me leave it there. This is a public space. Two, schools have to duty of care to your children in their care. Ensure the school understands this duty before you put enrol your children. Three, the girl child and children with disabilities are vulnerable in school. Teach them to be comfortable with who they are; also teach them to be confident and fight for their rights. But they, as expected of all children, should be well mannered. Four, when they are in danger, they should get help quickly instead of endangering their lives. A dead child is gone forever. No matter the punishment meted to the offender, your child is gone forever. Five, teachers should show good example and be role models to the children under their care. Recently, two male teachers in Delta State engaged in a fight-to-death in front of students. What nonsense is that?

To parents, stop rearing future wife beaters. Husbands, if you are tired of your wife, divorce/separation is more honourable than beating her. Your wife/spouse is not a punching bag. Marriage is meant to be enjoyed, not endured. Be role models to your sons. Mothers, stop treating your sons as if they are superior to their female siblings. Mothers are a major part of this problem. Junior will not wash his plates after eating. The sisters have to do it. He will not participate in domestic chores. At the end, you breed monsters and release them into the society. Parents should give good home training to be their male and female children.

NB: I reacted to the videos on the ground that they are real, not fiction.

Bitting effects of hunger forced me to sell my son for N1.5m-Mother confesses

A 22-year-old woman, Faith Sunday, nabbed in Lagos for child trafficking, has confessed to having sold her one-year-old for N1.5 million to save herself from dying as a result of hunger.

Faith was arrested along with seven other members of a child-trafficking syndicate by detectives from the headquarters of Zone 2 Police Command in the Onikan area of Lagos led by Ngozi Braide.

In her confessional statement to the police, Faith said: “I sold my son in September 2024 to a buyer through Mrs Ibezim Chioma and one Sunday Okputu.

“The buyer, who resides somewhere in the Alausa area of Ikeja, paid N1.5 million. Hunger forced me to sell my child to the syndicate. I want to invest the money in a business.”

The Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of Zonal Anti-Crime Unit, Zone 2, Onikan, Lagos, DCP Ajao S. Adewale, who paraded the suspects at the weekend, said the arrest followed an intelligence received by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Adegoke Fayoade.

Adewale disclosed that based on the report, the Zonal Anti-Crime Unit swung into action and that investigation into the activities of members of the notorious child-trafficking syndicate revealed that the suspects specialise in buying and selling of new-born babies, toddlers as well as children of various ages.

Adewale said the syndicate comprised one Sunday Okputu, whom he described as the supplier of the children and Ibezim Chioma, as the gang’s go-between.

He added that the duo sought prospective buyers for their illegal lucrative business.

He identified one Mrs Chinasa Echellibe as the children’s caregiver who takes care of the children while awaiting prospective buyers.

He stated that the buyers were apprehended by operatives of the zone led by one Ngozi Braide.

He added, “Five children were rescued from the syndicate. They are a year-old Marvelous Obi who was sold to Ibezim Chioma when he was barely one week old.

“Chioma resold him to one Mrs Ken Obi and Mrs Appulus Marina Oluchi, who is currently in Italy but kept him in the care of Chinasa Echellibe, who is the syndicate’s caregiver.

“Three-year-old Promise Ifekwuna was sold to Mrs Ifekwuna Ngozi for N500,000 by Mr Sunday Okputu, the ring leader, sometime in 2021. Somtochukwu was found in the care of one Nwakuba Helen Chinyere who stated she was just a nanny employed by her younger sister, Caroline Enwereji, who resides in California, USA.”

  • WICKEDNESS! Grandma buries teenager’s newborn alive

WICKEDNESS! Grandma buries teenager’s newborn alive

The grandmother of a 17-year-old girl identified simply as Favour has buried her daughter’s newborn baby alive in the Ogombo area of Ajah, Lagos State.

It was gathered that when the grandmother observed that the teenager had got pregnant, she became angry and did everything possible to hide the pregnancy from members of the public.

After a while, it was learnt the duo’s neighbours started suspecting that the minor was pregnant and thereafter drew the attention of the teenager’s mother to their discovery.

Bent on keeping the pregnancy a secret, the grandmother reportedly denied the neighbours’ claim.

In a trending video clip posted by a resource manager, Peace Ighodaro, on the X.com handle, @peace_igho, the minor, while being questioned by some neighbours in the video, said she gave birth to the baby without assistance from anybody.

She said, “I was the one that called my mother after I gave birth. When I gave birth, I did not know what was going on.”

Ighodaro, in a message attached to the post she made on Monday, alleged that the grandmother retrieved the baby from her daughter, left her premises and later told the minor that the baby did not survive.

She also accused the grandmother of ending the baby’s life despite people offering to adopt the newborn.

The post read in part, “A girl called Favour in Ogombo, Ajah, gave birth last Saturday, but her mother snatched the baby from her arms and brutally murdered it. The mother had been in denial about the teenager’s pregnancy, even after a test confirmed it. She went to great lengths to hide the baby bump, tying it up and keeping the teenager isolated at home.

“When a witness discovered what had happened, the mother initially denied the pregnancy. But after some prodding, she admitted the truth. The teenager, still reeling from the trauma, revealed she had given birth in the restroom and informed her mother, who callously told her the baby didn’t survive.

“The mother was taken to the police station, leaving the teenager alone and vulnerable. What’s even more heartbreaking is that someone had offered to adopt the baby, but the grandmother refused, choosing instead to end its life.”

A source, who spoke anonymously to our correspondent for fear of victimisation, said a neighbour confessed to watching as the grandmother buried the baby alive, adding that when he rushed out to retrieve the baby from the grave, the baby had died.

“One of the neighbours said he saw when the grandmother was burying the baby in the backyard of their residence but when he rushed out to dig the grave to rescue the baby, only the corpse was recovered.

“It’s disturbing why the neighbour chose to watch till the baby was buried before deciding to intervene. Even before the baby was buried, the neighbour said he saw the baby was still crying and also saw when the grandmother was digging the ground,” the source said.

When contacted for his reaction, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the case, noting that the grandmother had been arrested.

Hundeyin said, “The grandma has been arrested; the mother heard her baby crying after the grandmother took the baby from her. The grandmother later returned to tell her that the baby had died.

“Investigation revealed that she buried the baby alive and the baby had died when neighbours dug the grave to rescue it. It was premeditated; the mother of the baby was 17 years old and she is in our custody not as a suspect but to be taken care of.”

  • Pelumi’s always been adventurous, says mother of London-Lagos driver

Pelumi’s always been adventurous, says mother of London-Lagos driver

Mrs Olubukola Nubi, mother of Pelumi Nubi, a Nigerian content creator based in United Kingdom (UK) who embarked on a solo trip from London on Jan. 30, described her daughter as adventurous and courageous.

She said this in an interview with NAN at the Nigeria-Seme Border, while recieving Pelumi on arrival from her UK to Lagos journey.

Pelumi’s road manifest from the UK took her through France and Spain into Africa through Morocco.

She drove across Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia ,Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Mali, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Ghana, Togo, Benin, and finally to Lagos, Nigeria.

”As a child, she has always been adventurous; our first trip together was in 2004,  we went to New York.

“She did her A Level, and since then, she has been making her moves; before I knew it, she had travelled to 80 countries.

”I’m preparing for my 60th birthday and when she called me about this trip, I was afraid, but she assured me that she had everything sorted.

“Travel is a second name to Pelumi and she loves it to bits. As our only daughter among two boys, she’s courageous, adventurous and smart thinking,

“I’m proud of her achievement and I pray God continue to be with her,” she said.

On the need for parents to educate their children by travelling, Pelumi’s mum told NAN that in spite of how expensive travel is, it is beneficial to the all-round development of a child.

“In those days, we put Pelumi and her siblings on a flight, we call them unaccompanied, with Virgin and British Airways. It gave them lots of enlightenment.

“If parents can afford it, it’s very important, it broadens the minds of the young ones with their inquisitive mindset, which gives them exposure.

“As parents, we back them up in prayer and leave the rest to God,” Nubi said.

Prof. Gbenga Nubi, Pelumi’s dad, urged parents to give equal opportunities to both genders and raise wholesome children.

“It’s evident, and we thank God, I’m grateful to God; gender doesn’t matter, give the male and female child all they need.

“Who knew that it’s my daughter that would put our name on the map? I’m immensely grateful to God for this feat, I wish her many more,” he said.

Twenty-eight-year-old Pelumi, who was welcomed by cultural troupes, told newsmen that she was grateful for the rousing welcome and encouragement.

“I’m grateful to you for welcoming me, I’m grateful for all the encouragement, thank you and God bless,” she said.

According to reports, Nubi has lived in the UK since she was 10 years old.

She is living the dream of travelling solo to and from different parts of the world.

Pelumi says her desire to travel is purely to show people that travel can be simple, safe, and achievable.
