I studied Mourinho during Tottenham’s documentary – Arteta

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta admits he studied last season’s Tottenham documentary involving Jose Mourinho.

Arteta admitted the documentary demonstrated to him why Mourinho has been so successful throughout his career.

He said:”Very interesting. It is great to see the inside of other football clubs, other ideas, other coaches, other organisations.

“I like to see that – I do that with other sports as well because there are a lot of things you can take, and as well a manager like Mourinho that has been in many different countries, in all of them he has been successful so there is a why to that.

“There are some important moments in that documentary when you can pick some relevant things of why he is getting the success that he is getting.”

We didn’t have money for Arsenal midfielder Willian – Mourinho

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho insists he never considered signing Willian before he joined Arsenal.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s North London derby, Mourinho revealed Spurs didn’t have the money to enter a bidding war with Arsenal for the former Chelsea star.

“We don’t have money for Willian,” he said.

“We cannot pay the wages that he gets at Arsenal so I didn’t want to waste our time because we cannot pay these wages.

“He is still dangerous, he is still one of the best players in the Premier League. Apart from that, he is a good friend. I have nothing to hide in relation to that.

“We keep in touch, we keep in contact, we call each other. We wish good things to each other. He is my friend and of course he is a very good player.”

  • I’ve still got 15-20 years left – Mourinho

I’ve still got 15-20 years left – Mourinho

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho believes he has roughly 10 to 15 years left in the sport.

Mourinho is 57 and is one of the most successful coaches in modern history.

He has won trophies at FC Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Manchester United.

He is enjoying his time at Spurs, and admits he can see himself being a manager for a long time to come.

“There is a difference between success and a successful career,” Mourinho told reporters.

“I always believe that there is a huge difference. Success is a moment. Success can be related with your talent, but can be just the fact you are in a certain place in the right moment, in the right time.

“Another thing is a successful career, which is based on year after year after year, I always wanted that kind of career. It’s part of my DNA. I know that people probably don’t think this about myself but I consider myself a very humble person, I always try to learn, I always try to be better and this is a kind of job where experience only can make us better. I really believe today I’m much better than I was 10 or 20 years ago.

“If I love what I do, if I feel fresh, it’s motivation, it’s part of my DNA, if I change probably a little bit of my profile – and at this moment I think much more about others than myself – I always like to take players into a different dimension.

“I’m a 57-year-old, very young in relation to my job, so I wouldn’t be surprised if I have 10-15 years ahead of me.”

    ‘Mourinho has brainwashed Tottenham players’

Jose Mourinho has “brainwashed” his Tottenham players, according to Tim Sherwood, who believes the Portuguese can deliver Premier League title this season.

Tottenham have emerged as the surprise early pacesetters in the top flight this season, having picked up 20 points from a possible 27 so far.

Sherwood has praised the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager for raising the collective confidence levels within his current squad, and sees no reason why they can’t lift the trophy if they continue on their current trajectory.

“He’s found a way with the group of players he has,” the ex-Spurs midfielder and manager told talkSPORT.

“He’s bought very well, [Sergio] Reguilon has been a good signing at left-back, but [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg for me has been the best signing. He fits into the style and just protects the two centre-halves.

“Jose has brainwashed his players to believe they have to work to achieve something – they need to win trophies, this group of players.

Mourinho shrugs off Messi to Man City rumours

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho insists he’s unconcerned over the prospect of Lionel Messi joining Manchester City.

Spurs defeated City on Saturday to go top of the Premier League table.

The win was achieved 24 hours after City manager Pep Guardiola had signed a new deal to 2023 amid reports of Barcelona superstar Messi also being lined up.

Asked about the prospect, Mourinho waved the question away.

“A departure of Lionel Messi to Manchester City? I have no idea,” was all he would say.

  • I’ll sleep like an angel, says Mourinho after City win

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho is happy to be top of the table after victory over Manchester City.

Goals from Heung-Min Son and Giovani Lo Celso did the damage for the hosts for the 2-0 win.

Mourinho said, “It feels good [to be top], but maybe tomorrow we are second again and honestly that would not be a problem for me, I am just happy with the evolution.

“People cannot expect us to come here and after one season we are fighting for the title. We are not fighting for the title, we are just fighting to win every match. But we are going to lose matches, we are going to draw matches.

“Dinner tonight will be nice and relaxed and I will watch Atletico Madrid v Barcelona and sleep like an angel. But no problem if Leicester wins [on Sunday] and we are second again.”

Tottenham striker Carlos Vinicius has revealed the first words from Jose Mourinho when the manager called him about moving to London.

Vinicius is currently on-loan at Spurs from Benfica.

He recalled on the Spurs website: “I remember he called me and said: ‘So, are you ready?’

“He’s not just anybody. Imagine that, the best trainer in the world calling you, showing concern about you… This puts you at ease, you see. And he knows that this is very important to a player. It’s completely different. Even while being at the top, he knows, as a person…

“It makes things much easier, yes.”

Mourinho’s Tottenham go top of Premier League

Tottenham moved to the top of the Premier League thanks to Harry Kane 88th-minute winner against a resilient West Brom at The Hawthorns.

The England captain glanced his header past Sam Johnstone from Matt Doherty’s floated delivery.

Spurs had struggled to create chances in the match against a stubborn Baggies backline.

The home side went close to scoring when Karlan Grant’s header was brilliantly saved by Hugo Lloris.

Before the game, West Brom announced that defender Branislav Ivanovic and midfielder Matheus Pereira had both tested positive for Covid-19.

Manager Slaven Bilic said the club received the results last week and the pair are under going a period of 10 days in self-isolation.

  • Tottenham fans cannot expect same Bale from 7 years ago – Mourinho

Tottenham fans cannot expect same Bale from 7 years ago – Mourinho

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has played down expectations on forward Gareth Bale.

He said on Saturday that the Welshman cannot be the same explosive player who left the English Premier League (EPL) club to join Real Madrid seven years ago.

The 31-year-old Bale, back at Tottenham on loan from the Spanish side, is building up his fitness and has played three games in all competitions this season.

The games included Thursday’s 1-0 Europa League defeat by Belgian league leaders Royal Antwerp.

Mourinho said before that match that Bale was ready to “fly”, but the Portuguese was more measured in his assessment heading into Sunday’s league game against Brighton & Hove Albion.

“Seven years is a long gap. So, which player in the world is the same as he was seven years ago? Sometimes they’re not better or worse, just different players,” Mourinho told reporters.

“You look for example at (Cristiano) Ronaldo and (Lionel) Messi and compare them with seven years ago. They play in different areas, different positions.

“They transform their qualities, try to explore their qualities in other responsibilities on the tactical system of their teams.

“I think it happens with the majority of the players. So for sure he’s a different player.”

Mourinho backed Bale to regain his best form with more minutes under his belt.

“Every word I said on Wednesday I believe, because he’s working hard, he’s improving, he doesn’t have one single injury since he recovered from the last one,” Mourinho added.

“He didn’t miss a single minute of any training session. To play 90 minutes is still hard, to play high intensity is still difficult.

”But he’s improving and, hopefully, he’ll be back to a better level soon.”

  • How Mourinho almost convinced Messi to join Chelsea

How Mourinho almost convinced Messi to join Chelsea

Jose Mourinho almost convinced Lionel Messi to quit Barcelona for Chelsea, it has been revealed.

Italian transfer expert Gianluca di Marzio reports the Argentine forward was willing to play under the Portuguese coach with whom he had a long private call.

This was the first time Messi thought of leaving the Blaugrana although the deal with Chelsea didn’t go through.

The Barcelona captain remained at the club and 16 years later, at the age of 33, decided to ask to be released.

President Josep Maria Bartomeu did not grant his request and pointed potential suitors to Messi’s 700-million-euro release clause.

With one year left in his contract, the Argentina international made the decision to stay at the club despite rumours linking him with a move to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
