I’ve not been allowed to meet Mourinho – Roma player

Javier Pastore admits he’s been frozen out at Roma in preseason.

The midfielder is up for sale at the Giallorosso.

“I have not even met (coach Jose) Mourinho, the club wants to sell me,” Pastore told Tiempo de Juego.

“They didn’t even allow me to meet with him, nor to train so that I can show the coach if he wants to count on me or not.

“I am training separately with a group of 20 players that Roma want to either sell or send out on loan. We’ll wait to the end of the session and then see what happens.

“I have nothing concrete in terms of offers.

“Despite the fact I recovered from my injury, I practically never played over the last four months and this made it more difficult to find a buyer.

“I am trying something to get out of the contract, but there’s nothing so far.”

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has ruled out any chance of Granit Xhaka exiting the club.

Xhaka is said to have even agreed on personal teams with Mourinho’s side, but Roma’s unwillingness to stump up the cash has seen the move collapse.

Speaking to the press at the Emirates Stadium, Arteta ruled out Xhaka leaving Arsenal this month.

“Granit is going to stay with us. He is a key member of our squad,” he said.

Petkovic was appointed Switzerland boss in 2014 but has now left to join Ligue 1 side Bordeaux.

Alongside two pictures of him hugging Petkovic, Xhaka wrote: “What a journey! Mister, I just want to thank you for everything.

“We made history together! It’s been an unbelievable journey – thank you for all your hard work, for your support and for the way you have shaped a national team into a group of brothers.

“We won’t forget your work and we wish you all the best in Bordeaux.”

Not long after the message had been posted, Mourinho responded on his personal Instagram account. The Portuguese simply commented three clapping hands emojis under Xhaka’s post.

Real Madrid President, Florentino Perez, has in an audio recording, revealed how Jose Mourinho made Mesut Ozil dump his girl while they were at Real Madrid.

Despite Italy finishing as title winners, Mourinho told talkSPORT: “My player of the tournament was Kyle Walker. I think Kyle Walker was phenomenal. From the first minute of the competition until the moment he came off in the final he was phenomenal.

“He was giving cover to centre-backs on the opposite side. I don’t remember him losing one single duel. He didn’t go forward as much as he does in the club because of a strategy point of view.

“When I call a player an animal it is the best compliment I can do to a player. Kyle Walker – an absolute animal. For me, phenomenal. From the first to the last minute he was in that element.”

“Was this city one of the reasons you saw me here? I answer no. It is an important city, but I am not here on vacation or for tourism. I’m here to work.”

On the pressure of being Roma coach, Mourinho joked: “I already had to change my phone three times for what they call me … Seriously, it’s fantastic, it’s incredible. For those who worked in Italy when you leave, this thing is missing. Now there is work to be done internally and within the club we have to focus on this, with all due respect for journalists.

“When I work I’m not too nice, maybe it won’t be a pleasure for journalists to work with me because I work to defend my club. This is fundamental. Inside of Trigoria we have to think about this, we have a job to do and I will respect that of the journalists.”

I join Roma far better than I was with Inter Milan – Mourinho

New Roma coach Jose Mourinho says he returns to Italian football a better technician than he was ten years ago with Inter Milan.

Mourinho touched down in Rome yesterday to take charge of his Giallorossi squad.

He told the club’s website: “I’m much better now. I’m serious – because I think this is a job where experience means a lot. Experience makes everything look like deja vu because you went through so many experiences since I left Italy.

“I went to Real Madrid which was an incredible experience, where I reached my dream of winning in Italy, England and Spain. Then back to England where my family is based and of course I wanted to come.

“I even have extreme experience of taking a team to a final and not playing the final which is something I thought would never happen in my career and it happened.

“So with so many experiences and learning with the good moments and with the bad moments, I am much more prepared now than I was.”
