    Oborevwori mourns Edna Ibru

    Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has commiserated with the Ibru family of Agbarha-Otor in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the State on the death of their wife and mother, Mrs. Edna Ibru.

    Mrs Ibru, who reportedly died after a brief illness, was the wife of late Olorogun Senator Felix Ovuodoroye Ibru, first Executive Governor of Delta State.

    A former Miss Nigeria, Mrs Ibru in 1964, died in London after a brief illness on Wednesday.

    In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor described the demise of Mrs Ibru as sad and painful, adding that she was a loving wife and mother who supported her husband and family in all his noble endeavours.

    He said, “On behalf of the government and people of Delta, I mourn the passing of a great woman of substance, a caring mother and loving wife, Mrs Edna Ibru.

    “The news of her death came to me as a shock, especially now that the family members needed her motherly and wise counsel.

    “She was a woman of faith who devoted her time in supporting her husband’s political career which culminated in his election as the first Executive Governor of Delta State.”

    Oborevwori prayed to God to accept the soul of the deceased and grant fortitude to the family and friends she left to bear the loss.

    Bayelsa mourns as ex- President Jonathan’s ADC, Jitoboh dies at 54

    DIG Moses Jitoboh Former Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Moses Jitoboh, has passed away.

    Jitoboh, a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police from Bayelsa state, served as ADC to Jonathan during his tenure as Vice President under the late President Umaru Yar’Adua from 2007 to 2010.

    The former police chief died on Friday morning at Garki General Hospital in Abuja due to blood clots in his lungs.

    Mr. Jitoboh’s career in the police force came to an abrupt end following his compulsory retirement after the appointment of the current Inspector General of Police.

    He subsequently approached the National Industrial Court in Abuja, alleging that he had been forced out of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

    Commiserating with his family and the people of Bayelsa state, the command’a spokesperson, Emonena Gunn in a statement said, “His contributions to the Nigeria Police Force, dedication to service and integrity can never be forgotten, as before his retirement in 2023, he was DIG in-charge of the Department of Research and Planning, and also served as DIG Department of Information & Communications Technology (ICT), Force Headquarters.

    “The passing of DIG Moses Ambakina Jituboh is a great loss, not only to the immediate family but to the entire Bayelsa State, Nigeria Police Force and the nation at large.

    “It is our prayer that God will give the immediate family the strength to bear the irreplaceable loss of your beloved son,” Gunn said.

    The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has commiserated with the Governor of Akwa Ibom state, His Excellency Pastor Umoh Eno over the untimely death of his wife, Her Excellency, Pastor (Mrs) Patience Umo Eno.

    Akpabio, in a condolence message signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh said he was immensely saddened by the death of the wife of the governor.

    He said the late Mrs Patience Umo Eno’s kindness, compassion and commitment to the cause of the Akwa Ibom people will be greatly missed.

    The message read “Your Excellency, My dear brother and Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of your beloved wife, Her Excellency, Pastor (Mrs). Patience Umo Eno. My heart goes out to you and your family during this incredibly difficult time.

    “I knew Pastor Patience Umo Eno closely and she was an incredible partner and an exceptional woman, whose kindness, compassion, and dedication to the family and people of Akwa Ibom State will never be forgotten. Her support and partnership with you throughout your journey were invaluable.

    “Her legacy will continue to inspire and uplift us.

    “My family, the people of Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District and the Senate and the 10th National Assembly stand in solidarity with you, sharing in your grief and offering our heartfelt condolences. May God grant you and the entire family the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss”.

    US finally reacts to death of Iran’s president Raisi, says his hands were soiled with blood

    The United States has finally reacted to the death of late Iranian president, Ebrahim Rais.

    According to Washington, late Ebrahim Raisi, had a “lot of blood on his hands.”

    The White House made their reaction known on Monday in a condolence message after Raisi’s death.

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that Raisi and some government  officials were involved in a helicopter crash in East Azerbaijan province on Sunday evening.

    However, the US National Security Council spokesman, John Kirby said Raisi was responsible for “atrocious” rights abuses in Iran and had supported regional proxies, including Hamas.

    Addressing reporters, Kirby said: “This was a man who had a lot of blood on his hands.”

    Kirby, however, said: “As in any other case, we certainly regret in general the loss of life and offer official condolences as appropriate.”

    Earlier, Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, announced on Monday five days of mourning for President Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash.

    Gov Oborevwori mourns Onyeobi

    Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has commiserated with the Onyeobi family and people of Asaba over the passing of the Iyase of Asaba, Chief Patrick Onyeobi.

    The late Onyeobi who passed on at 90 was a former Secretary to Government and Head of the Civil Service of the defunct Bendel State.

    Until his passing, he was the Diokpa of Idumuojei village, Umuezei Quarters, Asaba.

    In the condolence message by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori expressed sadness over the passing of Onyeobi.

    The Governor in the statement said; “the passing of Chief Patrick Onyeobi is a big blow to his family, Idumuojei village, the people of Asaba and Delta State, considering his immense contributions to the traditional institution in the state capital”.

    He described the late Onyeobi as a “fine gentleman, model administrator and community leader with impeccable leadership qualities” who contributed to the growth and development of his community and the state.

    Governor Oborevwori said: “On behalf of the government and people of Delta, I mourn the passing of an astute administrator and community leader of immense repute, Chief Patrick Onyeobi.

    “Chief Onyeobi was astutely dedicated to cause of helping others and his many and extraordinary life achievements, distinguished him as a wonderful mentor and role model, whose works will continue to motivate the next generation.

    “Onyeobi’s enduring imprints on the sands of time will remain a powerful symbol of Asaba’s traditional institution.

    “Its indeed the end of an era for a man whose name reverberated across the length and breadth of the defunct Bendel State and Nigeria as a whole.”

    He prayed God to accept the deceased’s soul and grant fortitude to the family and friends he left to bear the loss.

    INSECURITY! Bandits vow to marry Bride, auction 62 wedding guests in Katsina

    Bandits operating in the Katsina State region of Nigeria have released a video threatening to marry off an abducted bride and auction her wedding guests.

    Recall the bandits abducted the bride and women accompanying her to her matrimonial home at Damari, Sabuwa Local Government Area of the state. last Thursday.

    In a viral video circulating on social media networks, the bandits threatened to marry the new bride off to one of their members unless relations of the victims paid a ransom of N100 million to them.

    Meanwhile, the bandits made a solemn pledge to auction off the ’62 wedding guests’ abducted with the bride unless their demands were fulfilled.

    In the footage, a gang leader who was in a police uniform, put the captives’ number at 63.

    He taunted the government saying they would marry off the bride if the ransom was not paid.

    “I am the one who abducted them, and I will never release them until ransom is paid. And if there is anyone who thinks they could rescue them, they should try it,” he said.

    Also in the footage, some of the captives were seen with AK-47 rifles hung around their necks, while the bride was seen dressed in an army uniform, with one of the bandits saying “Here is the bride adorned in an army uniform”.

    The captives were heard pleading for help; asking their relations to pay the ransom.

    The driver of the vehicle that conveyed the wedding guests, was also seen in the video carrying a gun, pleading that the ransom be paid.

    The bride’s family confirmed that the terrorists were demanding a ransom of N100 million for the release of all the captives.

    “They are asking for N100 million as ransom. None of us has ever seen that amount of money; so I told them directly that we don’t have such funds,” Haruna Abdullahi, an uncle of the bride told the a national daily.

    He also said the kidnappers told him they shot the video as a challenge to the state governor, Dikko Umar Radda, who was reported to have vowed to rescue the victims.

    “They said they made the video to demonstrate their seriousness to the governor,” Abdullahi said.

    Abdullahi disclosed that among those abducted were eight of his sisters and nine daughters.

    Another family member, who simply identified himself as Zubairu, revealed that his wife, six children and 13 relatives were among the abductees.

    Speaking to newsmen on the incident, the Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasiru Mu’azu Danmusa, said government officials had met with security agents and were devising ways of rescuing the captives unharmed.

    He appealed to the relatives of the bandits to exercise patience, saying that rescuing the abductees was not something that could be achieved overnight.

    A former member of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Ifeanyi Godwin Araraume has mourned a former member of the House of Representatives, Dr Cairo Ojougboh, describing his exit as a monumental loss to Delta State in particular and Nigeria in general.

    Araraume, who, together with Ojougboh and many other associates, shared a special relationship with the late political gladiator, Chief Tony Anenih, said the death of Ojougboh was so sudden and profoundly shocking.

    He said the Delta-born medical doctor-turned politician contributed immensely to national development while in the House of Representatives and as Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources.

    Araraume stated that Ojougboh’s death had created a void in Ika kingdom where the late Ojougboh demonstrated care for his people through his politics and philantropy.

    Araraume commiserated with Ojougboh’s family, the government and people of Delta State, Agbor town in Ika Local Government of the State on the passing of the former Execitive Director, Projects at the Niger Delta Development Commission [NDDC].

    He prayed that God would grant the soul of Cairo eternal rest and the immediate family members the fortitude to bear his irreparable loss.

    Recall that Ojougboh had slumped and died on Wednesday night while watching the pulsating AFCON’s Semi Final match between Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.

    The fatal development reportedly happened at 88th minute when the referee awarded a penalty against Nigeria, a decision that got Nigerians exasperated, including Ojougboh.

    The Delta State Government on Thursday said 6 persons have lost their lives to rainstorm and windstorm recorded in Oko Community in Oshimili South Local Government Area of the state.

    State Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, who confirmed the sad development at a news conference in Asaba, said 5 others who sustained various degrees of injuries were being treated at the hospital.

    According to him, a collapsed structure led to the death of 6 persons, one other person is critically injured and is being attended to at the Asaba Specialist Hospital, 5 others sustained various injuries are already in stable condition.

    “It is something that is quite disturbing and unfortunate. It is our prayer that God will grant the deceased eternal rest even as we pray to God to comfort the bereaved families and grant them the fortitude to bear their loss,”

    In a related development, Aniagwu said a 10-year-old boy was swept away at Okotomi area of Okpanam Community in Oshimili North Local Government Area.

    He said the State Government was coordinating rescue efforts to recover the boy.

    The Commissioner also disclosed that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has approved the constitution of Inauguration Committee to oversee a smooth transition to the next administration in the state.

    On the falling of a petrol tanker on Udu Bridge, Aniagwu appealed to residents to be patient, saying that efforts were on to evacuate the tanker for free flow of traffic.

    The Ero of Warri kingdom, Dr Charles Ikomi, one of the trusted chiefs of Olu of Warri has gone to be with his ancestors.
    The deceased was one of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III’s prominent chiefs.
    Chief Ikomi’s death was confirmed in a Facebook post on Thursday by his brother, Eugene Ikomi.
    The Olulaye of the kingdom and Secretary, Warri Council of Chiefs described Ikomi’s death as painful.
    He wrote: “And so I lost my mentor, Chief Dr C.D. Ikomi. We were in the trenches together for the good of our nation. He fought a good fight rest on. Really painful.”
