    The Battleship Island is based on a true story during WWII when Korea was under the colonial rule of Japan. In 1944, 400 conscripted Korean civilians head out to Hashima Island. Nicknamed “The Battleship Island” after its resemblance to a war vessel, many were lured by false promises of high wages. Upon arrival, they found that workers are forced into slave labor.

    As the U.S. launches a massive counterattack on Japan, the Japanese decide to blow up the island in order to bury the truth about their awful treatment of the Korean slave labors. A Korean independence activist discovers the plan and works with others on the island for a mass escape.

    A video showing a young Nigerian lady condemning Nollywood movies and filmmakers has been generating the myriad of comments on social media.In the video, the unidentified lady said most filmmakers in Nollywood are supposed to be spare parts dealers and not fit for the movie industry.

     

    According to her:” Nigerian movie producers should stop ranting, stop making noise, work on your storyline. We make too much noise, we should go and work on our audio, and we should work on our lightning. Most of Nollywood filmmakers are not professionals. The light men are quacks they don’t know what they are doing. Why is it that people prefer to watch Mexican films, Zee world and Telemundo other than Nollywood films?

    “You people should ask yourselves this question. We have lost it. Most of these so called producers need to be spare parts dealers, instead of wasting their time in Nollywood” she said.

    Isoken

    Isoken is an interesting movie you should put on your must watch list. Everyone in the Osayande family worries about Isoken. Although she has what appears to have a perfect life – beautiful, successful and surrounded by great family and friends – Isoken is still unmarried at 34 which, in a culture obsessed with married, is serious cause for concern. Things come to a head at her youngest sister’s wedding when her overbearing mother thrusts her into an orchestrated matchmaking with the ultimate Edo man, Osaze. Osaze is handsome, successful and from a good family, making him perfect Nigerian husband material. But in an unexpected turn of events, Isoken meets Kevin who she finds herself falling in love with and he just might be what she truly wants in a partner. The only problem is, not only is he not an Edo man, he is Oyinbo (Caucasian). Isoken is a romantic dramedy that explores cultural expectations, racial stereotypes and the bonds that unite families in touching, dramatic and comedic ways.

    Behind the wheels

    The story revolves around the life of Elijah, a young local boy who lost his father at a tender age. Hardship and lack of opportunities pushed him to learn the auto-mechanic trade. However, being unable to raise money for work tools, his desire to help his mother and siblings pushes him into being a motor boy and consequently a tanker driver and here the story begins. The story takes us through his eventful life as a tanker driver, which makes him cross path with Jimoh the ‘one day, one trouble’ struggling tanker driver and Abdullahi a highly irresponsible and reckless taker driver. The nerve wrecking occupational hazards and hurdles encountered by these tanker drivers result in serious consequences.

    Rough night

    This is another great movie. Five best friends from college (played by Scarlett Johansson, Kate McKinnon, Jillian Bell, Ilana Glazer, and Zoë Kravitz) reunite 10 years later for a wild bachelorette weekend in Miami. Their hard partying takes a hilariously dark turn when they accidentally kill a male stripper. Amidst the craziness of trying to cover it up, they’re ultimately brought closer together when it matters most.

    The Journey is the account of how two men from opposite sides of the political spectrum came together to change the course of history. In 2006, amidst the ongoing, decades-long conflict in Northern Ireland, representatives from the two warring factions meet for negotiations. In one corner is Ian Paisley (Timothy Spall), the deeply conservative British loyalist; in the other is Martin McGuinness (Colm Meaney), a former Irish Republican Army leader who has devoted his life to the cause of Irish reunification.     Fans criticize David Beckham’s acting debut in King Arthur

    David Beckham has been successful on the pitch and even as a husband and father but it seems the success does not extend to his acting career that is if the reaction of his fans is anything to go by.

    The 42-year-old father-of-four made his silver screen debut in the highly-awaited summer blockbuster, King Arthur.

    The trailer for the movie was finally released on Tuesday and his fans were disappointed, to say the least. Social media went into frenzy after the trailer release, with more people commenting that his performance was poor.

    According to a user…

    “This is the worst piece of acting I have had the misfortune to witness.”

    As another added: “Just heard a clip of Mr David Beckham in the new King Arthur film oh god it’s cringe…”

    “Pray for King Arthur! 14% on Rotten Tomatoes. David Beckham can’t even save the film. Guy Ritchie not made a good film since Snatch,” someone tweeted, and then added “I think David Beckham’s cameo in King Arthur has kind of put me off watching it.”

    Another tweeted: “The only thing I took away from King Arthur is that David Beckham can’t act. And I think I already knew that.”

    Well, what they saw was just the trailer and there’s a possibility the former footballer’s performance in the full movie will be impressive.

    It will hit UK cinemas on May 19. In the movie, David played the part of a hardened battle guard Trigger.
