Mr Eazi reveals role DJ Cuppy played in connecting him to Temi

The two love birds currently trending on social media, the Leg Over crooner, Mr Eazi and his fiancee, Temi Otedola, are up to the moon, but not without the role played by popular Disc Jockey and artiste Florence Otedola, aka DJ Cuppy.

According Mr Eazi, DJ Cuppy, who is Temi’s sister and currently studying for a second Master’s degree at the University of Oxford, was the connector between the two lovers.

Mr Eazi was quoted as saying he met his fiancée when her sister, DJ Cuppy, who is his friend, invited him for one of her numerous events in London, United Kingdom.

According to him, they were left at the same table and got talking after DJ Cuppy left the table for the stage to perform.

“I met Temi in London. It was an event, her sister invited me to an event. Her sister was playing at the event, somewhere in Knightsbridge and she said, oh come out, follow me to this event, so I followed her to the event and then she was deejaying and all of a sudden it was just me and Temi sitting down and just watching her,” Mr Eazi revealed.

However, Eazi said the celebrity Disc Jockey didn’t, at any point, formally introduce Temi as her sister or him as a friend, adding that he “toasted” his fiancée in her absence and they clicked.

“Not really, she didn’t like to meet my sister, you know, she invited her sister, she invited me. And by the time her sister came, she was already playing, so her sister came to the table and it was me and her. So, obviously, you have to socialise, so I said, “Hi what’s up, my name is Mr Eazi,” the Leg Over crooner maintained.

Still, Temi revealed in the podcast, ‘How far with Mr Eazi and Temi’ that it was her sister DJ Cuppy who introduced her to him, adding that DJ Cuppy had told her that she liked him but if the relationship didn’t work well with both of them, she would continue her working relationship with Mr Eazi.”

She wrote: “I can never forget the only thing she (DJ Cuppy) said, those first weeks we were dating, she had obviously introduced us and she was there and she was still cultivating a working relationship with you [Mr Eazi].

“And so, she calls me and said ‘so you guys are dating officially and I said, yes, I like him and she said, all I am going to say is that if things don’t work well with you both, I am going to maintain my work relationship with him [Mr Eazi]’ and she was straight up about it.”

He proposed to Temi, fashionista and daughter of Nigerian billionaire Femi Otedola, and the news of their engagement set the internet on fire.

Well, Temi has finally given him “leg over” – a slang that Mr Eazi himself popularized with his hit single, ‘Leg Over.’

Their love story is no doubt a fairy tale if the events that kick-started it are anything to go by.

Still, no sooner had the couple made their engagement public than Nigerian celebrities, palpably excited about it, congratulated the love birds.

They include: Tiwa Savage, Simi, Joeboy, Adesua Etomi, Broda Shaggi, Sharon Ooja, and BBNaija stars Bisola and Neo.

Reacting to the engagement on Sunday, DJ Cuppy tweeted, thanking Mr Eazi for bringing such joy to their family. “Today is one of the HAPPIEST days of my life… Thank you Mr Eazi for bringing such joy to our family! … Oya what is the hashtag for the wedding? Congratulations to my favourite couple on their engagement!

In another tweet, she said, “I’m so happy that my lil sister Temi Otedola has found her personal person! Yo @MrEazi I’ve always wanted an older brother, WELCOME TO THE FAMILY! PS: I introduced you guys, so you better find me my own o!”

Indeed, DJ Cuppy played a very pivotal role in the celebrity couple’s love story, as it was through her that Mr Eazi and her sister met.

That was what DJ Cuppy meant when she tweeted on Sunday that she introduced them to each other.

However, Mr Eazi had in an interview he granted in 2018 said though he met Temi through her, she (DJ Cuppy) did not introduce her sister to him, in the strict sense of the word. But he met his fiancée through DJ Cuppy.

It will be recalled that Mr Eazi’s working relationship with DJ Cuppy started when he employed her service as a Voice-over artiste to release the track entitled ‘Fight’. This song was released as the 6th track off his 2017 album, Accra To Lagos.

Still, DJ Cuppy has never hidden her support for her sister. Reacting to the “How Far Podcast of Temi and Mr. Eazi,” she once said listening to the podcast “makes me want to fall in love this year,” urging them to “please stay together forever!”

Mr Eazi and Temi started the podcast in 2021, where they talked about their relationship and the dos and don’ts in a relationship. Now that their relationship is now official and they are set to tie the knot, no doubt they are already armed with adequate knowledge of the dos and don’ts.

  • I arrived late for first meeting with Femi Otedola – Daughter’s boyfriend, Mr Eazi

I arrived late for first meeting with Femi Otedola – Daughter’s boyfriend, Mr Eazi

Afro-pop singer, Mr Eazi stated that he was late to his first meeting with Femi Otedola where he was to introduce himself as his daughter’s boyfriend.

Eazi whose real name is Tosin Ajibade, made this known in a podcast released on Christmas day by the singer and Temi Otedola, whom he has been dating for four years.

He said, “One thing that I can definitely remember was that my hair was pink or purple, and to be honest, at the time, I only had tracksuits and we were going somewhere. So, I remember I got pants and a shirt, and I had these Gucci shoes. I probably never wore them again after that day.

“For me, I actually thought it was a big deal meeting him because it was the first time and we were having dinner at a nice place. That is one of the few times where I have respected dress codes to go to a restaurant. I just wanted it to be smooth and cool. I think I was there a little bit late and your dad mentioned it.”

Speaking about that day, Temi noted that she had to keep her father calm and kept telling him that Mr Eazi was stuck in traffic somewhere close.

“I had to tell my dad that you were around the corner and there was traffic. I was stalling and wondering why you were late. For me, that was a big night.”

Also in the podcast, Temi revealed that her sister, DJ Cuppy, told her that if her relationship does not work with Mr Eazi, she would continue to maintain a working relationship with the entertainer.

  • Why l didn’t have close relationship with my son- Mr Eazi’s father

Why l didn’t have close relationship with my son- Mr Eazi’s father

Alexander Olukayode Ajibade, the father to Nigerian pop star, Tosin Ajibade a.k.a Mr Eazi, says he didn’t have a father-son relationship with the singer because he was serving in Sierra Leone as of the time he was born.

Ajibade, who retired from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) as a squadron leader, brought the exposé to light in a recent WhatsApp chat with his son.

The retired pilot explained that the development informed their failure to “blend” as the ‘Doyin’ singer often saw him as an “intruder” at the time.

“I was in Sierra Leone when you were born. living in tent at Lungi Airport, 1990 to 1992. That was why we couldn’t blend (father/son relationship) until we moved out of PH. I was always/ intruder to you,” he wrote.

Eazi revealed that he was inquisitive to ask his father considering he “felt a certain attachment upon landing” in Sierra Leone.

“I found out that at the time of my birth My Dad was Serving in This Great country. Little wonder I felt a certain attachment upon Landing. Big love to all the people of Sierre Leone and see you more often,” he wrote on Twitter.

Eazi attached a screenshot of the chat with photos of himself and Julius Maada Bio, the president as well as Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, the vice-president, during his visit to the country.

  • Hip hop sensation, Mr Eazi embraces coconut farming

After rapping at California’s Coachella festival and on Beyonce’s Grammy-nominated “The Lion King: The Gift”, Nigerian star Mr Eazi’s latest venture is closer to home – on a farm, but in Ghana.

The 28-year-old Afrobeat artist and entrepreneur plans to transform a Ghanaian coastal community of more than 60,000 people through coconut farming.

“There’s a cycle of poverty in Africa that keeps going from generation to generation and sometimes you wonder how you can break it,” Mr Eazi, whose real name is Oluwatosin Ajibade, told the Thomson Reuters Foundation.

“Agriculture plays a very important role in solving a lot of problems that exist back home,” he said on the sidelines of a two-day United Nations conference in Rome that began on Tuesday.

The musician, whose videos regularly get millions of views on YouTube, has shown his commitment to Africa’s youth with his emPawa Africa incubator programme, which supports new artists with grants to make music videos and mentorship.

Unemployment is high across the continent, with 10 to 12 million people entering the workforce each year but just 3.1 million jobs created, according to the African Development Bank.

    INSPIRED BY A WOMAN
Mr Eazi was inspired to take up farming after meeting a woman who told him how a machine that made coconut oil changed her life: freeing up her children to go to school, feeding the waste to her pigs and making trinkets out of bark to sell.

“That kind of woke me up,” he said, recalling the trip, which was part of his 2019 collaboration with the United Nations International Fund for Agricultural Development to encourage young Africans to take up farming.

“What really struck me was not how her kids go to school … how many businesses actually have 360 (degrees) value chain? For me, that was the kicker,” he said, snapping his fingers for emphasis.

Before then, Mr Eazi said he was “ignorant” about farming.

“My closest to knowing anything about agriculture was when Mum goes to the market and say the price of tomatoes or rice has increased,” he said, shaking his head.

Now describing himself as a farmer, Mr Eazi has become a staunch advocate of agriculture as meaningful employment for youth in Africa, which has the world’s youngest population with more than 400 million people between 15 and 35 years.

With support from a local lawmaker in Nzema East, Mr Eazi has hired a manager to kick off the project, which will train youth in the area on coconut farming and coconut oil production, before moving into other agriculture schemes.

“It’s a beautiful community. There’s a lot of land for farming. There’s also the ocean for fishing. There’s gold. The next constituency has some oil exploration. On paper it’s meant to be a rich community but it’s very poor,” he said.
After rapping at California’s Coachella festival and on Beyonce’s Grammy-nominated “The Lion King: The Gift”, Nigerian star Mr Eazi’s latest venture is closer to home – on a farm, but in Ghana.
“The goal is to provide jobs, profits and training to the constituents … Before the end of (the first quarter) this year, we’re actually gonna have the first database of farmers in the community. This data would inform business decisions.”

His mother often says he takes on too much.

“I said, ‘Mum, when you look back, you see how the dots connect, and you have one life to lead, you might as well (do it)’,” said Mr Eazi, before quoting Jay-Z’s “Family Feud” track.

“(Jay-Z) said, ‘A man that don’t take care his family can’t be rich’. It doesn’t just mean your immediate family … he actually means your community.”
