Trouble in Mr Ibu’s home as Police arrest son, daughter over wife’s petition

The Federal Criminal Investigation Department, Alagbon, Lagos, has arrested  Onyeabuchi Okafor, son of popular Nollywood actor John Okafor (a.k.a. Ibu)  for alleged N50 million fraud against the actor.

The department arrested Onyeabuchi alongside a woman identified as Jasmine Okekeagwu for the alleged fraud.

The department’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Aminat Mayegun, confirmed the arrest on Thursday in a statement.

Mayegun alleged that the actor’s son and the woman conspired and defrauded the actor of N50 million donated for his medical treatment.

She said that the department had also recovered the said amount allegedly stolen from the actor’s medical fund raising bank account.

The image maker said that, on Sept. 6, 2023, the defendant received a petition from Diamond Waves Law, on behalf of Mrs Stella-Maris Okafor (the actor’s wife), alleging the fraud.

According to the official , investigation into the case established that, as part of efforts to fund the actor’s medical bills, he launched a public fund-raising initiative and attracted donations from many people of goodwill into a designated account.

Mayegun said that the actor’s wife, Stella-Maris, was initially managing the funds to defray the medical bills of her husband and sustain their family.

“However, along the line, the duo of Onyeabuchi Okafor and Jasmine Okekeagwu  manipulated Mrs Okafor, took possession of the actor’s phone and hacked into the banking details.

“They, thereafter, re-installed the mobile banking applications of the actor on the phone of Onyeabuchi Okafor preparatory to the perfection of their preconceived fraudulent plans, and wiped off the banking applications originally installed on the actor’s phone.

“They, thereby, took direct and full charge of banking activities of the actor in relation to the funds being donated by members of the public in support of his medical care,” she said.

Mayegu added that through the alleged  fraudulent act, Onyeabuchi  and  Okekeagwu started transferring funds from the actor’s public fund-raising account to Onyeabuchi’s personal bank account.

She alleged that  forensic analysis of the duo’s illicit financial dealings established that a total N50 million was  successfully and criminally transferred  from the account before  their arrest.

The spokesperson said that investigation also revealed  text message,  via WhatsApp, between Onyeabuchi and Okekeagwu detailing, stage-by-stage, how they allegedly conspired and committed the fraud.

“It was also established that the two suspects, Jasmine and Onyeabuchi, had a sham marriage at the Ikoyi Marriage Registry, with plans to escape from the country to the UK, where they intended to settle with their proceeds of crime.

“They already applied for UK Visa in furtherance to this plan, prior to their arrest.

“During investigation, the stolen N50 million was traced to the bank account of Onyeabuchi.

“It was discovered that they had squandered a total of N5 million on questionable transactions, while the balance N50 million was recovered from him.

The official said that the suspects were charged to court on Thursday.

But if the said adopted daughter was/is actually a side chick that you were having sex with and you had the mind to introduce her to the world and to your family as a daughter, bros you were committing incest and you need to ask God for forgiveness Asap. Family isn’t only biological. There are many tags you should have given her, bestie, family friend, colleague etc but not daughter.

“This life is more spiritual than physical. It’s never a bad thing to adopts someone into your family/life. But bringing someone that you are sexually involved with into your family and tag her adopted daughter is convenience is incest. Maybe, we should deal with the spirituality first who knows.”

  • My face to face contact with Mr Ibu after his amputation – Actor Charles Inojie

My face to face contact with Mr Ibu after his amputation – Actor Charles Inojie

Popular Nollywood actor, Charles Inojie has narrated how he met his colleague in the make believe industry Mr Ibu after his leg was amputated.

    Read him:

    “MR IBU… THE INDOMITABLE HUMORIST!

“I never thought I could ever be able to relate this chapter of my encounter with Mr Ibu on his sick bed because I had this funny feeling that it had the potential of making light of a very dire situation as his condition presented. Well, the enigmatic humour monger himself, Ali Baba, has given me a soft landing to go ahead.

“I walked into his private ward in the ICU in the company of Chinyere Wilfred at whose behest we made the journey to Ever Care where he is being treated. We had just finished from a set, and she suggested that we take the opportunity to visit Ibu. With us were Jasmine, Mrs Ibu, and a woman I believe is her friend.

“As soon as we stepped into the room, his eyes lit up, and he retorted:

IBU: “Idiot, what are you doing here?”

ME: “Mumu, why you carry your leg go give mallam to dey cut?”

    IBU: “I get sense?”

He would go on to quibble a few friendly banters with Chinyere. In fact, suffice to say that if a total stranger walked into that room that minute, he would never be able to tell who, indeed, was the patient.

“From one joke to the other, Ibu literally entertained us. For a moment, i peered into his eyes as if searching for the secret of his willpower, and again, he levelled me out.

IBU: “You dey pity for me? No fear, the doctor say I go fit still use the leg later, even though some betta-betta meat don commot for the leg.”

You could never stop wondering where he got the strength under such agonising pain to exude such positive energy so effortlessly.

Then came the moment. I picked his hands from his sides and held them tightly as I muttered,

    “Let’s pray.”

We gazed intently at each other and connected on the fading highways of nostalgia, and upon the instance, I felt a mad rush of hot tears welling up beneath my quivering eyelids. I quickly turned away for fear my animal weakness was threatening to have the better of me, but too late. Ibu was crying, too!

“We prayed and cried freely and came to, unconsoled. He wiped his eyes as I did mine, and out of the blues, the Ibu in him reared its head again.

IBU: “Idiot, you go dey cry. Wetin dey beat you?”

    ME: “Mumu, you no cry?”

IBU: “Na as I see you dey cry, na him I say make I support you na.”

The two delectable nurses tending him laughed and laughed, and you could tell that Ibu made their jobs so very easy with his ebullient mien.

“I left his ward with one of life’s vital lessons running through my mind… WHOEVER CAN MUSTER THE WILLPOWER TO SURVIVE IN THE FACE OF ANGUISH AND LIFE THREATENING PAIN, CAN DEFEAT DEATH EVEN IN THE MOST FIERCESOME BATTLE.

May God Almighty grant Ibu a speedy recovery.
