Popular ski maker and actor, Debo Adebayo popularly known as Mr. Macaroni, has reacted to the report by the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Restitution for Victims of SARS Related Abuses and other matters.

According to the report, at least nine persons were confirmed dead at the Lekki toll plaza on the night soldiers invaded the protest venue there to disperse #EndSARS protesters on October 20, 2020.

The Justice Doris Okuwobi-led panel made this known in its report submitted to the Lagos State Government on Monday.

Titled, ‘Report of Lekki Incident Investigation Of 20th October 2020’, a copy of which was made available to The PUNCH, the panel said at least 48 protesters were either shot dead, injured with bullet wounds, or assaulted by soldiers.

In his reaction, Mr Macaroni wrote, “They were always asking were the survivors and families of the victims were. So make them kill them the way dem kill others, abi?

“All of you that defended this barbaric act should know that one way or the other, there will be a day of reckoning.

“The same panel that the government set up has presented their findings. Except you people don’t have faith in your own judicial system.

“Since last year, we have seen numerous gaslighting and lies! The truth always prevails and that truth is the #EndSARS Movement.

“Those that have been speaking the truth since 20/10/20 are still saying the same thing till this very day.

“Go and check the statements of Government reps or their supporters. It’s from one lie to the other. Now they are fighting themselves. Everlasting confusion for the wicked.” (sic)

  • Why I snubbed Osinbajo’s Aso Villa invitation – Mr Macaroni

Why I snubbed Osinbajo’s Aso Villa invitation – Mr Macaroni

Comedian, Debo Adebayo aka Mr Macaroni, has explained why he declined an invitation to meet Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

The Vice President on Wednesday hosted a team of young skit practitioners at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The delegation, under the aegis of the Nigeria Skits Industry Awards (NSIA), was led by its promoter, Bimbo Daramola.

Those on the delegation were Maryam Apaokagi popularly known as Taooma; Josh Alfred (Josh2funny); Ayo Ajewole (Woli Agba); Adebamiro Adeyanju (Mr Hyenana) and Adeoye Adeyemi Elesho (Yemi Elesho).

The visit has since attracted criticisms for those who attended.

While social media users lashed those that attended, they commended Mr Macaroni for not going.

Speaking on his absence, in a lengthy post on social media, Mr Macaroni, who has been lending his voice to social injustice, said he declined because of his anger with political leaders.

He said he does not want to be associated with them because of how the country has been governed over the years.

Mr Macaroni however said he believed those that went did so in their quest for a better nation as that’s what they’ve been fighting for all these while.

He said; “First, I do not think there is an association of skit makers. If there is, then I don’t know anything about it. And that would be fine because I am an Actor/Thespian first before the Tag “Skit Maker”.

“So I don’t think those that went to see the VP without me or anyone else meant to sideline me. I want to believe they were invited to see The VP by the organizers of an Award Ceremony the same way I was invited. The only difference is that I declined the invitation.

“The reason I declined is simple. As a citizen, I’m not happy with our leaders and I do not want to associate with them. It’s ok if others believe that sitting with the Govt will change certain things and decide to try it out. I don’t think they should be crucified for that.

“I have just seen too much to know that The govt sees and hears everything. They and their workers are always on the Internet. They know what we cry and complain about and they do nothing about it. So what will sitting down with them to tell them what they already know change?

“I don’t know what was discussed in that meeting as I wasn’t there. But I don’t believe those that went would go there to say anything other than demanding for better governance and leadership as we all have been doing all these while.”

  • Mr Macaroni changes style for #EndSARS anniversary protest

Mr Macaroni changes style for #EndSARS anniversary protest

Nigerian comedian, actor, and activist, Debo Adedayo, better known by his stage name, Mr Macaroni has changed the mode for the #EndSARS anniversary protest to hold in Lagos State.

Best known for his Instagram comedy videos, where he plays the role of a sugar daddy, Mr Macaroni became active in the #EndSARS movement when police arrested him at the Lekki Toll Gate during the #OccupyLekkiTollgate protest.

TNG reports #EndSARS is a decentralised social movement, and series of mass protests against police brutality in Nigeria. The slogan calls for the disbanding of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a notorious unit of the Nigerian Police with a long record of abuses.

The protests which takes its name from the slogan started in 2017 as a Twitter campaign using the hashtag #EndSARS to demand the disbanding of the unit by the Nigerian government.

After experiencing a revitalisation in October 2020 following more revelations of the abuses of the unit, mass demonstrations occurred throughout the major cities of Nigeria, accompanied by vociferous outrage on social media platforms.

About 28 million tweets bearing the hashtag have been accumulated on Twitter alone, and solidarity protests and demonstrations by Nigerians in diaspora and sympathizers occurred in many major cities of the world.

The protests is notable for its patronage by a demographic that is made of entirely young Nigerians, and the movement has since expanded to include demands for good and accountable governance.

On Saturday 3 October 2020, a video showing a SARS police officer shooting a young Nigerian in front of Wetland Hotel, Ughelli, Delta State trended on the Internet. It was alleged that the police officers took away the young man’s vehicle – a Lexus SUV. The trending video caused public outcry on social media, especially on Twitter, with the #ENDSARS hashtag trending.

Just as the ENDSARS trend began on Twitter, on Monday 5 October 2020, another report surfaced of SARS officers killing a 20-year-old upcoming musician named Daniel Chibuike, popularly called Sleek in his neighbourhood. Sleek was said to be sitting in front of a hotel with a friend when the SARS officers approached them, prompting them to flee. According to an eyewitness, the SARS men pursued the pair, shouting “thief”, before shooting Sleek as they ran through a supermarket. His friend was arrested.

On Thursday 8 October 2020, nationwide protests on ENDSARS started after weeks of outrage and anger with videos and pictures showing police brutality, harassment and extortion in Nigeria. The protests were led predominantly by young Nigerians in different cities alongside many activists and celebrities.

Nigeria Police Force disrupted the protests in some cities, throwing teargas, using water cannons and shooting at unarmed peaceful protesters as seen in Abuja and Osun. This led to the death of Jimoh Isiaq in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

By Wednesday, 14 October 2020, the End SARS protests were still on-going with young people in different parts of Nigeria intensifying their calls for reforms and accountability in police operations.

On October 20 the Nigerian Army allegedly murdered protesters at the Lekki tollgate. The government and army deny these allegations till date.

Mr Macaroni is one of those planning a peaceful protest to commemorate the events that happened on October 20, 2020.

“It is impossible for us not to memorialize our fallen heroes. We will never ever forget. Innocent Nigerian citizens waved flags and sang till they were shot at, injured and killed. We must never forget. We’re rolling up in cars tomorrow to drive through the tollgate.

“We know their way, so a procession of cars is the safest option to minimize police harrassment. We will stay in our vehicles throughout. We have rides for people that need. Each and every one’s safety is very important so please let’s move together,” Mr Macaroni wrote on Instagram.
