    Killers of 16 military personnel will not go scot free – Defence Minister

    The Minister of Defence, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru, on Thursday assured that those who killed the 16 army personnel in Delta would not go scot free.

    The minister also assured that the school children abducted in Kuriga, Kaduna State,  would be rescued and reunited with their families.

    Badaru made the commitments while addressing troops of 1 Division Nigerian Army on Thursday in Kaduna.

    Nobody kills military personnel and go scot free, he said, assuring the troops that the defence ministry is not relenting in bringing the killers to book.

    He said President Bola Tinubu is aware of the sacrifices the armed forces are doing to safeguard the country and its people.

    “He is asking you to do more and more until the issue of insecurity is ended. With you we have the power, will, strength and determination to do it.

    “We also know what you have been doing to rescue the kidnapped school children, and I am sure we will rescue them and unite them with their parents.

    “The strategy that has been briefed is going on very well,” he said.

    Badaru thanked all personnel of the Nigerian military for their gallantry and efforts to make the nation very secure.

    Recall that the 16 military personnel were killed in an ambush in Okuama community in Delta while on a peace mission on March 14.

    President Tinubu has announced plan to give the deceased a posthumous national recognition and honour.

    New Emir of Dutse receives letter of appointment

    Gov. Muhammad Badaru of Jigawa has approved the appointment of Hameem Sunusi as the new Emir of Dutse.

    The new Emir succeeded his father, Dr Muhammad Sunusi II who died on Jan. 31 at the age of 79, after 28 years on the throne.

    Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abdulkadir Fanini presented the letter of appointment to the new emir in Dutse on Sunday on behalf of the State Governor.

    The governor said that the new emir was chosen after careful consideration of the names recommended by the kingmakers of Dutse Emirate Council.

    He urged the new emir to discharge his duties in the best interest of his people, without preference and unite them for the progress of the area.

    Until his appointment, the new emir, who was born in 1979, held the title of Dan’iyan Dutse.

    “On behalf of the Jigawa State Government, His Excellency, Gov. Muhammad Badaru Abubukar has congratulated HRH Alhaji Hameem Nuhu Sanusi on his appointment and wished him a successful and peaceful reign as Emir of Dutse,” he said.

    Responding, the new emir, who expressed gratitude to the governor for finding him worthy of the position, promised to justify the confidence reposed in him.

    Sunusi, who promised to operate an open door policy, called for the support and cooperation of everyone in the emirate.

    Gov. Badaru signs N178.5bn Budget for 2023

    Gov. Muhammad Badaru of Jigawa on Friday signed the state’s N178.5 billion Budget for the 2023 fiscal year into law.

    Newsmen reports that Badaru signed the budget after it was passed to him by the State House of Assembly.

    The governor expressed satisfaction with the state budget performance in the last seven years of his administration.

    Badaru said that the 2023 Budget was designed to consolidate all the gains made in the last seven years, particularly in the area of physical and human capital development.

    “This budget will be used to complete ongoing projects and numerous new ones across the state.

    “In the last seven years, we were able to construct over 1,700 km roads, achieved 95 per cent access to water, improved our GDP, built and renovated over 6,000 class rooms.

    “Also, with effective budget implementation, we were able to improve our eduction sector and the results showed in the performances of our students WAEC/NECO results.

    “From 4.5 percent to over 60 per cent of those who obtained five credits, including Mathematics and English,” the governor said.

    He, however, pledged to ensure that the citizens continued to enjoy dividends of democracy throughout his tenure.

    “We’ve recorded significant improvement with regards to budget implementation and we will continue to ensure maximum implementation of this budget,” Badaru said.

    Jigawa Gov appoints 8 permanent secretaries

    Gov. Muhammad Badaru of Jigawa has approved the appointment of eight permanent secretaries, the State Head of Service (HoS), Alhaji Hussaini Kila, said on Thursday.

    This is contained in a statement by Alhaji Ismail Ibrahim, Public Relations Officer, Office of the HoS and issued to newsmen in Dutse.

    According to Kila, the appointment of the new permanent secretaries is purely on merit, competence, personal integrity and seniority.

    The head of service gave the names of the new appointees as Safiya Muhammad, Abdullahi Hassan, Lawan Bello, Uwani Jafaru, Dr. Rabi’u Miko, Abdulrahman Mato, Nuhu Haruna and Dr. Haruna Usman.

    He noted that all the appointments were with immediate effect.

    Kila added that the appointees would soon be assigned their respective portfolios.

  • NITDA trains Northwestern women on ICT

    National Information Development Agency (NITDA) has trained 111 Northwestern women on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Jigawa, the agency’s Director General, Dr Isa Pantami, said on Sunday.

    Pantami made the disclosure at the closing ceremony of the training in Dutse.

    He said the beneficiaries were drawn from seven states of North West.

    He added that the training was part of the agency’s initiative on ICT capacity building for women in the North West and NITDA’s intervention to develop the capacity of women in ICT.

    The director general, who described ICT skill as critical for prosperity and economic wellbeing of the nation, noted that the training was also to create jobs and promote self-reliance among women in the seven North West states.

    He announced that each of the 111 trainees was given a mini laptop computer by the agency.

    Gov. Muhammad Badaru of Jigawa said the state government would continue to partner with the agency in areas of digital job creation and e-learning.

    Badaru said Jigawa had excelled in the area of ICT with the establishment of E-Learning centre in Hadejia town, Hadejia Local Government Area, School of Islamic and Legal Studies Ringim in Ringim Local Government Area, Digital Job Creation Centre at Government Day Science Secondary School Lautai and Government Day Secondary School Maigatari, among others.

    He added that with support from NITDA, Jogawa Government also established E-Learning Library at Bunyaminu Usman Polytechnic in Hadejia Local Government Area worth N100 million.

    Meanwhile, some beneficiaries of the training, Firdausi Lamido from Kaduna State and Hawwa’u Shehu, commended NITDA for the gesture and pledged to use the computer judiciously.

    Lamido said the skills and knowledge acquired would make her become self reliant and productive.

    Shehu said “we were taught how to design and produce calendars, stickers, invitation cards and many more.

    “In fact, we were taught how to do a lot of things to earn serious money from the comfort of our homes.”

     

  • Jigawa govt. spends N5bn on water provision in 2 years

    The Jigawa Government has spent over N5 billion on provision of potable water to citizens across the state in the last two years.

    Gov. Muhammad Badaru made this known while presenting his score-card to stakeholders at a town hall meeting to mark Democracy Day in Dutse on Monday.

    Badaru said out of the amount, N3.5 billion was spent on capital expenditure, while N236 million was spent to convert motorised water schemes to solar-powered ones, during the period under review.

    He added that government was planning to actualise the Dutse Greater Water Project, pointing out that a new design was also being developed, for the successful actualisation of the project.

    The governor said that his administration has planted over five million assorted seedlings in the past two years, to controlled desertification in the state.

    According to him, the 2016 desertification programme was hosted by the state, where eleven kilometres shelter belt was established in Malammadori, Babura and Garki Local Government Areas of the state in an effort to check desert encroachment.

    Badaru added that forty nine temporary forest guards were recruited to guard the forest reserves in the state.

    Also speaking, Dr Abba Zakar, the state’s Commissioner for Health, said the state government would build three General Hospitals in Guri, Garki and Buji Local Areas of the state in 2017.

    Zakar said that medical equipment worth h N800 million were procured and and distributed to health facilities across the state in 2017.

    He explained that through the ongoing screening of health personnel across the state, the ministry was able to save more than N54 million.

    The commissioner added that the money saved would be used for the newly recruited 540 health workers.

    According to him, the state government had also evolved effective modalities that would ensure the completion of the School of Nursing project in Hadejia.

    Zakar added that the school would commence operation in October.
