As a Christian, Muslim-Muslim ticket is unacceptable – Bishop Kukah

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Mathew Hassan Kukah has described the All Progressives Congress, APC, Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket as reprehensible and unacceptable.

Speaking with Channels Television on Thursday, the Bishop insisted that Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s choice to pick Kashim Shettima as his running mate is against the will of Nigerians.

While Tinubu is a Muslim from the Southwest, Shettima is a Muslim from the North.

However, Kukah wondered if Muslims would accept a Christian-Christian presidential ticket.

He said Nigerians would wait to hear what they have to say when the campaign starts.

He said: “But moving forward, the question I have asked my friends who are Muslims, especially those who are from northern Nigeria, is a simple question: ‘Would Muslims in Nigeria or northern Nigeria be ready to make the same concession that Christians made in 1984 and 1993?

“I think that as a Christian, this is totally reprehensible. It is not acceptable to me, but that is the decision of the APC as a party. Perhaps, when the campaign starts, we will hear what people have to say.”

Stop dragging APC into your problems – Group tells PDP

The All Progressives Congress Grassroots Governance Group (APC-G3), has advised leaders of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to stop dragging the ruling party into their intractable issues.

Deputy National Publicity Secretary of APC-G3, Kingsley Ndunagu, gave the advice in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja.

Ndunagu expressed misgivings that the Chairman, PDP Board of Trustees, Sen. Walid Jibrin was trying to introduce religion into APC’s choice of presidential and vice-presidential candidates.

“It is wrong of Jibrin to say that the problems arising from PDP’s presidential primary could not be compared with the situation in the APC’s Muslim-Muslim ticket issues.

“The PDP leaders are aware that their party may not even come out second in the presidential election. This informed their desperation to drag the formidable Tinubu/Shettima ticket into their trouble,’’ he stated.

Ndunagu emphasised that Christians and Muslims have been living together as one in the country and would continue to do so.

He challenged PDP to explain to Nigerians how it intends to build national unity having reneged on the agreement to let power rotate.

“Their selfishness did not allow them to acknowledge the unity and stability of Nigeria like the APC did. Christians and Muslims have been living together in Nigeria, but selfish politicians are trying to divide us.

“The PDP should explain what they will tell Nigerians who want to live as one, how they want to unite our country. This is the same people who called for power rotation in 2014, but are now working against it.

“The APC as a responsible party wants all Nigerians to be one, irrespective of religion and ethnicity.’’ Ndunagu stressed.

He argued that APC leaders, particularly President Muhammadu Buhari and northern governors went for power rotation.

“That is the way to go in a multi-ethnic society. From all indications, PDP may not even be in the second position in the presidential election, hence their desperation.

“Nigerians must see the Tinubu-Shettima ticket as being here to serve the country, and not a particular group of people,’’ Ndunagu added.

  • Muslim-Muslim ticket: ‘’Bible and Quran have always been in Tinubu’s house”

Muslim-Muslim ticket: ‘’Bible and Quran have always been in Tinubu’s house”

Ambassador Dare Owotomobi, the Global Coordinator of Bola Ahmed Tinubu Solidarity Vanguard (BATSV)  has rubbished the criticism surrounding Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima’s presidential ticket.

He said God is neither a Muslim nor a Christian but a God of good living, efficient transportation, and security.

Owotomobi spoke in Katsina during the inauguration of the North West wing of the vanguard at Old Government House Katsina.

He said: ’’We are here to celebrate the impending electoral victory of Asiwaju bola Tinubu, victory is already knocking at the door.

‘’Please convey our message of hope from Tinubu who is a rewarder of every effort. God is not only for the Muslims or for the Christians but the God of everyone for those condemning Muslim-Muslim ticket, they are missing the point.

‘’Religion is a matter of environment, talking about issues, better living, security, efficient transportation and so on, all these are more than religious issues.”

He added: ‘’Bible and Quran have always been in Tinubu’s house. His wife and some of hs children are Christians, so serving humanity remains uppermost in his mind with the fear of God.”

  • 2023: Don’t lose sleep over Muslim-Muslim ticket – Bishop Kwakpovwe advises Nigerians

2023: Don’t lose sleep over Muslim-Muslim ticket – Bishop Kwakpovwe advises Nigerians

Bishop Chris Kwakpovwe, the General Overseer of Manna Prayer Mountain and Publisher of the popular Our Daily Manna has advised Nigerians, especially Christians not to be too bothered about the All People’s Congress, APC’s controversial Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket.

Bishop Kwakpovwe made the declaration during the 2022 edition of the Mid-Year World Anointing Service held at the ministry’s headquarters, 8 -13 Omotayo Banwo Street Ogudu, Orioke, Lagos on Saturday July 23rd.

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN and other prominent Nigerians have all kicked against the emergence of APC’s Muslim-Muslim ticket, describing it as evil and insensitive.

With the theme, ‘Oh Finger Of God; Show Up For Me’, the grand finale of the 14 days programme, which was beamed live across the world, an overwhelming huge crowd filled the ministry’s (Mountain) auditorium with overflows of worshippers outside.

The pharmacist-turned preacher, Bishop Chris said; “The Muslim-Muslim ticket doesn’t worry me. After all, we campaigned for late MKO Abiola, who was a Muslim from Ogun State and Babagana Kingibe, another Muslim from Borno State. Nigerians at that time were united in voting them to victory – The Popular June 12 election which was annuled by the military. Maybe by now, Nigeria would have been like America.

“So the Muslim-Muslim ticket is not my worry. The whole country voted for that man. But Babangida and the Junta annulled the election. My plea to all of you is to ensure you pick your PVC and vote for the best candidate.”

Speaking further, he said; “Please don’t misquote me. I didn’t say PDP is better than APC or whatever. But what I’m saying is that I don’t believe in condemning anybody, but my counsel to those complaining that the Muslim-Muslim ticket is bad or terrible, is that; carry your PVC and remove those you don’t want, even if it’s Christian-Christian ticket, if they are not doing well, what do you do ? Use your PVC to vote them out.”

According to Bishop Kwakpovwe, If anybody has the intention to islamise Nigeria, such people would not be alive to witness it.

“Where is Leah Sharibu? That wonderful Christian girl? Where is she today? She is still in captivity. What wickedness is this? I’m not saying be Obidient, or “be PDP or APC” because I am a father to all. But hear me carefully. We will not support evil. Anybody secretly planning to bring Jihadists into this country; I make a decree today: That they shall.not be alive to accomplish it in Jesus name.

“Anybody that will allow this suffering to continue shall not win the election.”

He however urged Nigerians to continue praying for their leaders as he submitted that a good man with good intentions might bow to pressure and change whenever they get elected.

“Obi can enter and change. APC can enter and change. The same with PDP, etc. So my prayer is that anyone that would take us back to square one shall not get there. Always pray for your leaders. They are always under pressure from insincere political friends.”

The bishop urged members and the nation to pray especially for the month of August and September, saying that the two months are significant.

While Bishop Chris Kwakpovwe led prayers, with intermittently preaching in his usual charismatic style, large number of the worshippers were healed of different ailments as many gave incredible testimonies during the service.

Online viewers also called to give their testimonies of healings and how the atmosphere changed at various locations across the Globe.

Soul-thrilling praise and worship songs were orchestrated by the very wonderful choir -Manna Voices, who dictated the tunes for the revival that left participants dancing and rejoicing.
It was indeed a manifestation of God’s Finger!

  • Northern Christian Summit: Dogara, Lawal fume over Muslim-Muslim ticket

Northern Christian Summit: Dogara, Lawal fume over Muslim-Muslim ticket

Prominent Northern chieftains of the All Progressives Congress(APC) on Friday beseiged the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to hammer on their crusade against the Muslim-Muslim ticket the party is flying for the 2023 general elections.

Tagged  ‘APC Northern Christian Leaders Summit’, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Engineer Babachir Lawal and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara urged  Northern Christians not to surrender to the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the ruling APC.

They called on Christians in the North to speak with one voice against the Tinubu-Shettima ticket, they declared that the choice of the ruling party will promote injustice, inequality and counterproductive to the collective vision of a united country.

Below is the speech of Yakubu Dogara:

I consider it great honour and privilege to be invited as the Guest Speaker at this all-important August summit of eminent religious leaders and top-notch politicians from across all the States of the Federation.

Permit me to start by profusely thanking all those involved in putting together this summit and all the delegates who have sacrificed time and their busy schedule in order to honour us with their presence, which we do not lightly esteem. I understand we are here to talk about our nation and how political choices may impact our faith and likely exacerbate the escalating parlous security situation and stymie our match towards an inclusive, peaceful and prosperous nation.
Not a few have expressed concerns about national outlook on all presidential tickets. Also, not a few worry that the debate was becoming corrosive, and of course, with this kind of spitting of bilious views into the political wind, there was bound to be lots of nerves in the air.
When we talk about a Muslim-Muslim ticket; God forbid that we should be understood to be objecting to Muslims or that we don’t want Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to be president. It is not about Senator Kashim Shettima either, but it about what is right and what is wrong. It is about justice, fairness and equity. It is about Nigeria; it’s diversity and how it can be harnessed in an inclusive manner for the greater good of all of us. Be that as it may, some of us really wanted Asiwaju to be president because he has sacrificed much for our Party, the APC and for what he represents to so many people. So, our position cannot be against Muslims or Islam. That fact cannot be denied in any way.
But when it comes to choosing between the love and admiration I have for an individual and what is right and what I believe represents my vision for Nigeria, my choice will clearly be for the latter. After all, my rise to the position of Speaker was never going to be possible without the support of some Muslim members who believe that our diversity must be reflected in national positions for the unity, peace and advancement of our dear country. What gives me more hope about the Nigeria project is that there are many of our Muslim brothers and leaders who did not only warn the APC, but have had to call out the APC for adopting a Muslim-Muslim ticket which resulted into the Party ructions we are witnessing today.
In 2015, when we were called “janjeweed party”, my response was usually very simple. I could then say that, HE John Oyegun was the chairman of my party and my Vice-Presidential candidate was Pastor Yemi Osinbajo. We don’t enjoy that luxury anymore as the President, Senate President, Speaker and his deputy; Senate and House Leaders; National Chairman and the Deputy National Chairman; Presidential and the Vice-Presidential candidates are all Muslims, leaving the Christians with just the position of VP Osibanjo and Deputy Senate President Omo-Agege at that level in a Country whose population is fairly split between Muslims and Christians. Granted this scenario, can any God-fearing Muslim, Christian nay even the amoral and the atheist say this is fair, just and righteous? Does this represent the act of a just God? This is the real context of objections from the Christian community not just the Presidential ticket and the VP slot.
For me, it is a rude awakening and I am so happy it happened sooner than later. The very fact that they said we should not worry about a Muslim-Muslim ticket while a Muslim-Christian ticket gave them sleepless nights should make you worry the more. To worry about a Muslim-Christian ticket while counselling others not to worry about a Muslim-Muslim ticket is the very textbook definition of cognitive dissonance and an attempt at gaslighting gullible Christians. Truth must be told that anyone who is not bringing us together is consciously tearing us apart.
Furthermore, I do not want to speak to the argument that there is no Christian competent enough to be Vice-President because as we all know, that is hogwash. It only speaks to the need to deliberately exclude – whereas the need now is for inclusion.
The other funny argument in the media is the claim that without a northern Muslim on the ticket, elections cannot be won. The implications of that argument are quite unambiguous; Northern Muslims don’t vote for the South – even if the candidate is a Muslim like them – and, of course, don’t vote for Christians. However, nothing can be further from the truth. If you stretch this argument further, it may lead to questions such as, “if Muslims in the North don’t trust a southern Muslim for any reason(s), why should Christians in Nigeria trust a Muslim from the South and North?” These are the kinds of arguments I hate to engage in and which we must avoid if we hope not to injure the health of our Republic.
Other unhelpful framings of the debate by the so-called pundits posits that Christians in the North are so small in number that their votes don’t count. This strange argument seeks to reinforce the satanic agenda of dividing the church in Nigeria into North and South, and also ignores the fact and reality that Nigeria is evenly split on religious lines. These pundits are still not smart enough to tell us what is in the Muslim-Muslim ticket for southern Christians. The argument also ignores the fact that our official policy excludes religious affiliation from census data. There is therefore no scientific basis for these bizarre conclusions. Let us now look at a model for managing diversity.
If the UK offers any example, in 2005, the Tories had only two non-White MPs. Just within over a decade, this has changed dramatically – all the way to the top ranks of the party, including the last three chancellors of the exchequer in a row: Javid, Sunak and Zahawi. In addition, Patel was home secretary; Javid – health secretary; Kwasi – business secretary and; Zahawi – education secretary.
Before the pruning down of candidates for the Conservative Party leadership to two; six of the candidates were members of ethnic minorities. Braverman, Sunak and Javid are the children of immigrants while Chisti and Zahawi were born outside of the UK: in Pakistan and Iraq respectively; and our own Kemi was partly brought up in Lagos.
All these happened in the conservative UK where the entire population of minority ethnic group is a paltry 14% – thanks to David Cameron under whose leadership the Tories embraced the idea of “sponsored mobility” which was thought to be good for the country because it will help prevent politics from polarizing along racial lines.
As we speak, the UK may well be on the verge of becoming the second major Western democracy to have a non-White leader in Sunak. Sunak who took the oath of office as Chancellor with his hand on the Bhagavad Gita and placed Diwali candles on the steps of his office on Number 11 Downing Street, shares the same faith with just 1.03 million Britons representing just 1.6% of the U.K’s total population. This is how democracies all over the world are managing diversities within their borders. Compare this to the US under Trump where the Republican Party was and is still in danger of becoming the party of White grievances and White reaction against an increasingly diverse America. Is it in vain that the Democrats had to settle for a woman and a black VP in Kamala Harris? Women issues are treated as minority issues and what percentage of US population is black? Just 13.4% in case you don’t know. In these two, we have two models to borrow from; either to play the politics of exclusion which the Muslim-Muslim ticket represents or to make politics all-inclusive in order to heal our national fault lines and unite our disparate peoples for nation building. The latter must be the choice of every patriotic and sensible Nigerian.
Why do I consider the decision by the APC to settle for a Muslim-Muslim ticket not a bold but bad decision? There are ample reasons but I will highlight a few for want of time and space.
It is a bad decision because it fuels inequality. We must always bear in mind that the liberty we enjoy is as rare as it is fragile. Inequality has a way of upsetting the balance due to the universal law of cause and effect. Throughout history, every revolution has been waged to either consolidate or destroy inequality. Just like all revolutions, they first seem impossible and then improbable until they become inevitable.
When you think of revolutions, what comes to your mind? Is it the pictures of savage invasions, crushing battlefield defeats, sacked cities and unlucky rulers put to death or a cascading series of minor, individually unimportant failures which are now replete in our polity? You may not understand the structure of revolutions until you trace the progression of the Nazis from an unpopular fringe group to the most powerful political party in Germany. Those who are dismissive of those who built conflict generating structures such as the Muslim-Muslim ticket in a pluralistic society always end up as enablers of revolution or violent changes. That was how Nazism was dismissed as a fringe idea that will never make it into the mainstream of civilized Germany until it led to the death of an estimated 40 million people.
It is a bad decision because it breads division which is counter-productive to our collective aspirations for a united and prosperous nation. My last check reveals that the word division is a construct of the word “vision” with a prefix “di” which means double in Latin. Just imagine what double vision does to an individual, much more a Nation. Our national creed or motto if you like, is unity and faith, peace and progress. Embedded in this great idea is the fact that unity precedes peace and progress. The question therefore is, how do we unite our disparate peoples in a manner that ensures peace and progress? This is not the only question, it is every question.
Of course, our strength is not in numbers but unity. You are not strong because you are many, you are strong because you are united. Nigeria cannot survive if we merely tolerate each other or if the happiness of one group is the unhappiness of the other group. But if we are united, we will be indomitable. And if all of us: Muslims, Christians, atheists, the old, the young, women and men work together and pray together in unity: believe me; we will be invincible. On the corollary, many are the Nations and Empires that could not withstand divisions.
The largest construction project ever on earth – the erection of the Tower of Babel came to an abrupt halt due to divisions. The almost 3200 years long recorded history of the Egyptian empire collapsed due to divisions when Cleopatra the last Pharaoh killed her brother Ptolemy the 13th who was a joint heir to the throne and married another of her brother, Ptolemy the 14th before she had him also killed so that her son can succeed her as the pharaoh. The all-powerful Roman Empire just like the British Empire after it, decayed and died not on account of invading armies but just because they could not withstand the contradictions within. Need we say more about Yugoslavia and the USSR?
The US too is currently struggling and if they don’t invent ingenious ways to heal divisions, the US dominance, just like all the other empires before, might soon become history. If we think we can encourage divisions in the scale we are witnessing and not see what those Empires and Nations saw, then we are of all men and women most miserable.
In addition, the inability to distinguish the Nigeria of 1993 from 2022 gave me cause to fret the more. An indispensable attribute of a leader in crisis is to be able to recognize a departure of events from routine to novel.
The inability to spot an infliction point in moments of gripping visceral fear across the nation represents an irredeemable fatal error of judgment. There has never been a time in our history that we are as divided. We are battling terrorism, banditry, kidnapping for ransom, secessionists and all manner of challenges.
Consequently, anyone who thinks that events in Nigeria in 2022 are not novel but routine as they were in 1993 is totally incapable of finding solutions to challenges currently ravaging our dear nation.
As for the nodding dogs who have sold themselves to lying spirits by deliberately believing in lies or are refusing to accept the truth, rebuke them in love. We may, after all, be dealing with fallen angels. We must never forget that every generation has its own Jannes and Jambres who withstood Moses; its prophets of Baal who withstood Elijah; its Sanballats and Tobiahs who withstood Nehemiah; it’s Esaus whose profanity will drive them to sell their birth rights; its Gehazis who will surrender to seducing spirits in order to feed their greed; its Hamans who will plot to annihilate Gods people: the list goes on. On this class of people, the scripture has already placed a curse, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!” Isaiah 5:20. But just as those they withstood overcame, we will also overcome if we faint not.
The harder they try to make us bow to the golden image of greed, the more we should chant to their chagrin the answer given by Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego – who said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up”.
In closing, let me reiterate the fact that we are here to talk about what is right and what is wrong. To my mind what is right is not just to win elections but to unite Nigerians both now and after the elections so that we can collectively build a Nigeria that works for all regardless of creed. As President Obama warned, “if you have to win a campaign by dividing people, you are not going to be able to govern them. You won’t be able to unite them later” This is spot-on because anyone who wins an election by dividing us would have to keep us divided in order to govern us. This is not what any reasonable and peace-loving Nigerian wants.
As long as God remains the God of justice, may we continue to resist injustice to our sinews, no matter who is for or against it because it is the requirement of the just God. Let us go out from this summit with the resolve to seek out our Muslim brothers and sisters who believe in unifying our people in order to usher in the much need peace and advancement for Nigeria to unleash her true potentials. I am sure we will jointly agree on a platform that would advance our collective search for unity, peace and development. Believe me, the only alternative is the road to Yugoslavia. God forbid! If we want to see Nigeria exalted, we must insist she does the right things.
Thank you for listening. God bless you and may God bless Nigeria.

Why we support Muslim-Muslim ticket – APC South Africa

The All Progressives Congress (APC), South Africa chapter, says the Muslim-Muslim joint ticket of the party’s Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and his Running Mate, Sen. Kashim Shettima, will deliver dividends of democracy to Nigerians.

The Chairman of the chapter, Mr. Bola Babarinde, in a statement on Sunday in Lagos, said Tinubu and Shettima have the capacity to salvage the country from its current woes.

According to him, what the nation needs now are competent leaders that can make lives better for the people.

Babarinde said: “A political party chooses presidential joint ticket for its viability, and solely with the objective to win elections as its immediate priority, and it is after winning and occupying office that any electoral promises can be fulfilled and delivered.

“The pedigree and achievements of Tinubu and Shettima in administration, governance and politics are solid and incontrovertible.

“They both possess the political capital and administrative wherewithal to lead the most populous black nation to socioeconomic development.

“The focus and beam light towards the election by the public and especially electorate should be on performance capacity and not religion or other primordial sentiments that have held us back as nation from collectively rising above tribal and religious divides.”

According to him, it will be a marginalisation if Muslims and Christians believe they are the only organised religion in Nigeria and by so doing excluded adherents of native and traditional religion from aspiring to lead the country.

He said the adherent of traditional religion also has right to aspire and demand for representation in governance.

“If everyone is insisting it will become convoluted; if Muslim/Muslim ticket is not good for Nigeria, then any other combinations will always be contested as having excluded other faiths.

“Even a joint ticket of both Muslim and Christian candidate can even be contested by adherents of the native religions for exclusivity and devoid of inclusion and equal representation.

“Now that the flag bearer of the APC, Asiwaju Tinubu, and the party have concluded their decision on those who will occupy Aso Rock in 2023, let us respect and support them.

“We should pray for their success at the coming polls and working together eventually for the smooth sail of the incoming administration after the current dispensation,” he said.

According to him, in South Africa, the demand and concern are issue based; and not what religion you belong but about competence.

He said that the chapter was ready to partake in ensuring the Tinubu/Shettima combination win the 2023 election.

Babarinde added that the chapter would also support and collaborate with the administration to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

  • Atiku asked me to be his running mate in 2007 being a Muslim – Tinubu

Atiku asked me to be his running mate in 2007 being a Muslim – Tinubu

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has criticized the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar over his comment on Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Tinubu said the former vice-president asked him to be his running mate in 2007 but he refused.

Recall that Atiku had accused Tinubu of being a lover of the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket.

Atiku, who was the Action Congress, AC, presidential candidate in 2007, had said Tinubu wanted to be his running mate then.

Atiku said his refusal and insistence on a Southern Christian led to a breakdown in his relationship with Tinubu.

Reacting, the APC presidential candidate accused Atiku of being a “pathological” liar.

In a statement by Tunde Rahman, his media aide, the APC candidate said: “ Atiku may want to be president. However, all he has shown is that he is a pathological liar.

“Let me say openly that Atiku offered me the vice presidential ticket in 2007. Let me also say that my religion has not changed. When he offered the position to me, I was a Muslim and I believe he was aware of my religious faith at the time.

“Atiku’s calculations and deceit had nothing to do with religion or his sensitivity to it. His conduct has everything to do with what we discovered about his paucity of character and love of intrigue.”

  • Knocks, indifference in Kogi, Abuja over APC Muslim – Muslim ticket

Knocks, indifference in Kogi, Abuja over APC Muslim – Muslim ticket

The raging discussion and controversies among Nigerians about the decision of the ruling APC to field two Muslims as Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates have continued with many respondents interviewed in both Abuja and Kogi stating their dismay, while others remain indifferent to the decision. Few APC loyalists however justified the pairing.

A political commentator, Samuel Obadiah told TheNewsGuru that the decision was not thought through by the APC, saying it was a dead combination which has isolated the opinion of Christians in the country.

To him, “What this means is that the APC does not respect how the christians feel. They feel a religious balance would not have any impact on the outcome of the polls in a secular but religiously sensitive environment that we have found ourselves.”

He said the party should have scanned through the North before arriving at the decision because, “Regional balance is as important as religious balance. I don’t think any right thinking christian would vote for the ruling party, considering their record since they took over power.

“Are you telling me there are no christian politicians that would help pacify the already tense christian population in the region? Of course there are. It is just an attempt to circumvent them.”

On her part, Njideka Onwonwu who is a Civil Society Activist said the nation is already teetering towards division and that there was no need to continue to beat the drum of division or emphasizing factors that further set the people against each other.

According to her, it does not matter if a political party decides to pair two Christians or Muslims, as long as they can sustain the peace and improve the social and economic well being of the people while providing accountable, transparent and corruption – free government.

“I have always been interested in who would speak about lack of ability to deliver the democratic goods to the citizens since these whole argument began about Muslim – Muslim and whatnot,” she said.

“What an average Nigerian needs now is good governance. A government that can create opportunities for citizens to live in peace, have access to quality education, provide infrastructure and make life comfortable.

“The noise about religion and belief system of candidates is to me, a distraction. Whether they are idol worshippers, atheists, and whatnot, should be of little significance, compared to the task of getting the country working again.

“Nigeria’s worsening insecurity is not making the people to want evolve a national discuss that would address the issue head-on. It is sad that people have become disillusioned with the situation. In the face of alarming poverty, people are paying through their noses to free their kidnapped loved ones. Some of these things go unreported with, in fact, security agencies not wanting many of the hush payments to come to public knowledge.

“I think it is the religious leaders feeding fat on the people’s ignorance that are instigating the public to overblow the issue of Muslim – Muslim ticket. It should not be this much of an issue, as far as I am concerned.”

Joseph Akwu on the other hand, thinks that Nigeria would gain more with the experience sof the APC candidates, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima.

Mr Akwu noted that the duo have a combined 16 years experience between them as Governors having served eight years each as Lagos and Borno State Governors.

To that effect, he said Tinubu understands the complexities of the south and that Shettima understands the North very well, hence the belief they are a combination capable of taking the country to a great height.

Sunday Dada does not care, he said the only thing that would give him joy would be for him to see a leader that would begin to change situation across the country for the better.

Umar Yahuza, John Usman, Shuaibu Audu, Mohammed Abubakar and others also spoke on the issue and said they would pray for it if that would be best for the country and that they would also pray against it if at the end, it would be a disaster.

Shuaibu Audu, in particular, told our reporter, “Do you know what the country has been through in the last couple of years? What we need now is prayers for the Almighty God to select the best leader for us, not some issue about the religion they practice.”

Bishops at Shettima’s unveiling are genuine – MURIC replies CAN

Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has declared that all the Christian clerics who attended the unveiling of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Vice Presidential candidate, Kashim Shettima in Abuja on Wednesday.

The director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola stated on Friday in reaction to the dissociation by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

Akintola posited that many Christian  Bishops attended Shettima’s unveiling despite CAN’s disposition towards the Muslim-Muslim ticket.

MURIC accused the Christian leadership of shying away from reality and living in self-denial.

“Going by the findings, it is now very clear that leaders of CAN have distanced themselves from reality,” it said.

“How low can a religious body descend? What does CAN stand to gain by deceiving its followers?

MURIC also listed some of those it maintained are genuine clergymen that graced the APC event.

Akintola said Bishop Kamoru is “a real cleric from Peace Chapel, Mararaba”, in Nasarawa State.

“A picture has emerged where he was seen conducting a wedding in the church. Some members have come up to say that they knew him personally.

“Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, of Gboko Catholic Diocese, Benue State, is also the APC Governorship candidate.

“Pastor Prince Ugokwe, also confirmed that he is a real pastor and not fake”, the Islamic group added.

MURIC noted that CAN “is not to be trusted” for CAN disowning “but knowledgeable bishops and pastors”.

“This shows that a caucus within the leadership of CAN has unleashed tyranny of the oligarchy on Christendom in Nigeria”, the statement added.

Ugo Ugokwe, an APC member and one of the clerics, responded to critics in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

RCCG clears air on Adeboye meeting with Tinubu over Muslim-Muslim ticket

The Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG had denied reports of its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye meeting with the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

They were reports claiming that Pastor Adeboye met with Tinubu over the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket.

Debunking the claim, the church’s Public Relations Office, in a statement on Tuesday, noted that such a meeting did not hold.

The statement read, “It has come to our notice that some news outlets are reporting that a meeting Between Pastor E.A. Adeboye, The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God Worldwide, and the former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was held a few days back at the Redemption Camp where our esteemed father in the Lord was said to have supported the preferred candidature of the party the former governor is a member of.

“This is to inform the general public that Pastor E.A. Adeboye is under the authority of God, the Christian Association of Nigeria, and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, and as such, will not speak on behalf of Christians on issues regarding policies.”“Pastor E.A.Adeboye and the RCCG have not and will not endorse any candidate for the 2023 General elections in Nigeria.”

Noting that the news of the meeting was false, the church warned, “News outlets should desist from spreading false information about Pastor E.A. Adeboye and the RCCG as it defeats the code and ethics of journalism and the full weight of the law will be employed if such happens in future.”

On its official Instagram page, the church added, “The General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor E. A. Adeboye, did not hold any closed-door meeting with Mr. Bola Tinubu for support of any sort.”
