Bandits kidnap 12 Muslim worshipers during midnight prayers in Katsina

Twelve Muslim worshippers have been abducted by bandits while observing Tahajjud at a mosque located in the outskirt of Jibiya town of Katsina State.

TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that Tahajjud is a midnight prayer that is being observed during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

A resident of the affected community, Mallam Fahad Mukhtar who spoke with Channels Television said the gunmen arrived at the mosque around 2:am on Monday shooting sporadically. They finally abducted the worshippers, numbering 12, and took them into the forest.

Mukhtar, however, said residents have earlier been warned of the attack.

“Prior to their coming, people were informed on so many WhatsApp platforms that there might be an attack around 12:am.

“Our prayer is that May Almighty Allah intervene and look into our condition in Jibia. This attack happens almost on daily basis. It’s not something new.

“Our leaders and sponsors of the insecurity in our country should recall that there will be a day of judgement,” he said.

Mukhtar however said there has been series of bandit attacks in the area. He said this recent attack follows an earlier attack where 40 worshippers were kidnapped and 28 managed to escape.

Another resident of the area, Muhammadu Sani also confirmed that the bandits have earlier abducted about forty worshippers.

Meanwhile, Police authorities in the state are yet to react to the incident.

  • CAN cautions Muslims leaders against promotion of violence

CAN cautions Muslims leaders against promotion of violence

The leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has cautioned some Muslim leaders in Nigeria against promotion of violence and trouble unless they want to throw the country into avoidable religious crisis.

CAN said it is worried and disappointed with the activities of some Islamic extremists in the country whose past time is how to trigger religious crises and violence and throw the already nervous country as a result of serious security concerns into utter confusion.

This is contained in a statement signed by CAN’s General Secretary, Barrister Joseph Daramola.

He said all over the country, there are some actions that are being taken by some Islamic leaders who are out to provoke their Christian counterparts to anger which CAN has been working behind the scene to nip such ungodly actions in the bud.

“For example, in Kwara State that CAN is still trying to curb the violence occasioned by the Governor’s directive to mission’s schools to allow the wearing of the hijab, some extremists have built Ummul Khair Central Mosque and Islamic Centre beside Catholic Bishop’s House and the Secretariat primarily to tempt peace-loving Christians into a religious crisis.

“Will Islamic schools allow Catholics or Christian women who are their students dress to the school premises in their cassock? To compound the problem, one Imam Abubakar Ali-Agan and the General Manager, Kwara State Physical Planning Authority, are claiming that there was a Memorandum of Understanding between the Catholic Bishop of Ilorin and the owners of the Ummul Khair Central Mosque before they built the two buildings, whereas, it was absolute falsehood and misinformation. But if they are certain about their claim, they should publish the said Memorandum of Understanding.

“It is high time we advised some Muslim leaders in the country to stop fishing in troubled waters with a view to provoking Christians whom they share the same neighbourhood with. This should stop,” the statement said.

CAN said it is an open secret that no religion has a monopoly of violence, hence, Christian leaders continue, always, to caution faithful against provocative actions against other religions or citizens wherever they live as Jesus Christ taught us.

“We therefore call on the security agencies to caution and prevent any group of people whose actions can lead to religious and social crises and violence in the country. We also call on all well-meaning Islamic leaders to talk to their members with provocative and evil-intended actions.

“We have had enough bloodletting in the country. Violence lovers should be firmly reprimanded and disciplined.

“We equally appeal to the Kwara State Government to order the relocation of the controversial mosque and the Islamic Centre immediately in order to prevent the crisis being deliberately provoked by some Islamic leaders and followers in the country,” the statement added.

Ramadan: Time to make peace, Tinubu tells Muslims, non-Muslims

National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Bola Tinubu, has urged Muslim faithful and non-Muslims alike to always seek peace and harmony in the nation.

Tinubu stated this in a statement signed by his Media Aide, Mr Tunde Rahman, on Tuesday in Lagos.

He urged all Muslim brothers and sisters to be guided by the spirit in their interactions with fellow Muslims.

Tinubu noted that it was equally important for them to make peace in their relationship with neighbours and Nigerians of other faiths as well.

He noted that in this holy month of Ramadan, adult Muslims were enjoined to abstain from food and drinks and other worldly things from dawn to sunset.

“This spirit of sacrifice, discipline and perseverance symbolised by denying the body of food and drinks must engender the spirit of humility, mercy and kindness in us individually and as a true community of faith.

“Through this self-control and perseverance, we are moved to beneficial introspection, self-discovery and self-development.

“We must do so not only for the holy month of Ramadan but every day of our lives,” Tinubu said

He said that Nigeria faces many challenges, but none of these issues could defeat Muslims as long as they remain true to the tenets of their faith by extending the hand of brotherhood and goodness to those around them.

Tinubu said that Muslims would grow in strength through unity and compassion, not through division and recrimination, adding that the call and spirit of the holy month were much needed now.

“May we all join as brothers in pursuit of peace and harmony for all Muslims and non-Muslims alike.

Buhari sends message to Muslims as Ramadan commences today

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday welcomed the beginning of Muslims’ holy month of Ramadan, which marks the commencement of 30 days of fasting.

In a message to the nation to mark the occasion, President Buhari prayed to Allah to accept our sacrifices and increase the unity, solidarity, peace and prosperity of the nation.

He urged Muslims in the country to exercise patience and tolerance and reject voices that seek to divide the nation.

He also urged all citizens to show compassion to the millions of the less endowed and remember those that have been displaced by conflict in their charity and prayers in this important period.

In a similar vein, President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has urged the Muslim Ummah to stress messages of peace, love and National unity as the Holy Month of Ramadan begins across the Islamic world.

Lawan in a statement on Monday urged them to remember the Holy Month as a period of fasting, sober reflection, self-discipline, and sacrifice.

“I urge us to remember our dear country in our prayers as we seek to overcome the challenges we are facing as a nation.

“This is in the realisation that Allah is the Almighty, kind and greater than all human problems.

“I enjoin us to stress the importance of peace, love, generosity and unity in our teachings during this sacred period.

“We should also not let down our guards in the observance of COVID-19 non-pharmaceutical protocols in our spiritual and other activities during the Holy Month,” Lawan said.

The Senate President wished the Muslim Ummah a blissful Ramadan.

  • Nigeria has become a massive killing field – Kukah

Nigeria has become a massive killing field – Kukah

Archbishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Hassan Mathew Kukah has observed that there is a growing fear among Nigerians whether the country’s glory is about to depart owing to Boko Haram, banditry, Kidnapping, armed robbery and other merchants of death happening across the nation.

He made this known in his Easter message titled, ‘Before our Glory Departs’, according to him today the citizens of this country are being traumatised by bandits.

“The nation has since become a massive killing field, as both government and the governed look on helplessly. A thick and suffocating cloud of desperation, despondency, desolation, gloom, and misery hangs in the hot air.

“We have no message and have no idea how long this will last. Our people seek solace and protection, but frustration and darkness threaten to drown them. Is their government on AWOL?”

According to him, there is collective fear as to whether Nigeria’s glory is about to depart!

He noted that retired military and intelligence officers lament over what has become of their glorious profession as they watch the humiliation of our military personnel. Traumatised citizens are tortured daily by bandits.

“Two weeks ago, I came across a video in which a very frustrated Muslim cleric, addressing a Muslim audience, lamented: If you killed 200 chickens in the farm of any of the big farmers, you will be dealt with. But today, we are being killed. It is your fault. On the day of elections, you say, it is Jihad! Christians will take over Nigeria! Ok, the Christians did not take Nigeria. It has been left in the hands of those who sit and see us being killed.

“If we are killed, the head says, God forbid! He was not elected to say God forbid. This imaginary jihad won the elections now where are the jihadists? The lesson here is that politicians will use religion to mobilise for elections, but they cannot use it to govern.”

Also he said, “The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria weighed in with a strong statement on February 23, 2021, titled, We Must Pull Back from the Brink of Collapse. Part of the statement read: The very survival of the nation is at stake. The nation is pulling apart. Widespread serious insecurity for long unaddressed has left the sad and dangerous impressions that those who have assumed the duty and authority to secure the nation are either unable, or worse, unwilling to take up the responsibilities to their office. Patience is running out. Sadly, all of these warnings are still falling on deaf ears.”

However, he pointed out that “It may sound strange, but for us Christians, the celebration of the resurrection of Christ is the greatest assurance that all these will pass away.

“This is not a call for us to simply sit on our hands or believe we can pray our crises away. As pointed out above, the sufferings of Jesus and His Cross provide us with the perfect mirror of our hope. St. Paul reminds us: We are hard pressed on all sides, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted but not forsaken, struck down but not destroyed.

“We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body (2 Cor. 4:9). These are the hallmarks of our faith. We must remain steadfast.

To this end he appealed to Christians to continue in the spirit of the Gospel, saying, ‘the teachings of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. St. Paul says: Though He was God, he humbled himself, became man and remained obedient up till death (Phil. 2:6ff).

“Following in His steps, we Christians have lived through the life of martyrdom. Jesus taught us how to pray for our enemies (Mt. 5:44). Although His teachings are hard (Jn. 6:60), it was not the guns of a powerful army that brought down the walls of Jericho.

“The prayers of the priests did (Jos. 6:20). Jesus defied the temptations of coming down from the Cross. He knew there was a higher truth deferred. It was fulfilled on Easter day. No matter the provocation, we must arm ourselves with the weapons of truth, the Word, the Spirit, and love. At the heart of Christianity is the Truth and Love.

“Today, many of us erroneously speak about the trial of Jesus by Pilate on Good Friday. In reality, it was Pilate who stood trial, not Jesus. Pilate sat on a throne to judge what he himself was ignorant of–the truth. Chained by ignorance, the powerful often grope around a twilight zone between truth and lies.

“At the mention of the word “Truth” by Jesus, Pilate was jolted from his chair. In trepidation and apprehension, the mighty man says, Truth, what is that? (Jn. 18:38). Pilate was looking for the Truth but did not recognise it when it stood right before him. In every age, the seduction of raw power tends to blind the Pilates of this world to the truth.

“Bishop Kukah noted when governments face legitimacy crises, they fall back on serving the sour broth of propaganda, half-truths, and outright lies, saying,’ they manufacture consent by creating imaginary enemies, setting citizens against one another by deploying religion, ethnicity, region, and other platforms while appealing to the base emotions of patriotism.

“We forget the reality that without truth, the throne of power often turns into a cage, and the occupant is turned into a prisoner. In reality, the truth needs neither a judge nor a witness. The truth is its own judge and witness. Without the truth, as the old song says, all else is sinking sand!”

Insecurity: Nigerians may be forced to carry weapons in churches, mosques to protect themselves – CAN youth wing

Worried by the incessant security challenged in Nigeria, the Youth Wing Christian Association of Nigeria on Sunday said Nigerians may resort to carrying weapons in churches, mosques, while travelling and wherever they find the selves.

The organisation urged the President Muhammad’s Buhari government and security agencies to sit up and act now or never.

The national chairman of YOWICAN, Belusochukwu Enwere, raised the fears in his speech titled: ‘Kidnapped RCCG members: Nigeria on the march to Golgotha‘, delivered at the just-concluded leadership retreat held in Abuja, and obtained by journalists on Sunday.

He was reacting to the kidnapping of a bus filled with Christians from the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Kaduna Province 1 who were said to be going for a prayer work to Kafanchan.

According to him, the incidence of kidnapping had become a case too many and has left bitter tastes in the mouths of many persons in Nigeria.

Enwere wondered whether the abduction of RCCG members was another case of religious persecution, coming after the recent kidnapping of 39 Students of College of Forestry, Afaka close to the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna.

He said, “We challenge the government, we challenge the security agencies to act now or never. The protection of lives and properties of the common man is their primary responsibility.

“This anti-human behaviour cannot be corrected by mere condemnation by government on the pages of Newspapers. No responsible government will just sit or stand akimbo and watch the country slide in to anarchy.

“Buhari’s government and security agencies should sit up. If the situation does not improve, YOWICAN fears that self defence may be inevitable as Nigerian citizens may be forced to arm themselves in churches, mosques, while travelling and in some holy places.

“Our hearts bleeds that a busload of Christians from RCCG from Kaduna Province 1 going for a prayer work to Kafanchan was abducted on their way. The incident of kidnapping is a case too many and has left bitter tastes in our mouths.

“This has become a norm in our society where humans, on daily basis, could be whisked away by gunmen. As youths, we are disappointed that victims could be left with correspondence from the government without further actions. Nigeria is on its way to Golgotha and only divine intervention can stop it.

“We must not forget in a hurry, John F. Kennedy who, in 1962, said that, ‘Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.’

“The government must rise now and take responsibility of the security challenges going on in the country. How could citizens be taken away just like that without a trace?

“For some time now, kidnapping has become the new trend in our society. Our students in Kastina, Zamfara, Niger, Kaduna and other parts of the country were kidnapped. And now abduction of church members. This is disheartening indeed.”

Hijab crisis: Beware of God’s consuming fire, Oyedepo warns Muslims in Kwara

Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of the Living Faith Church, has expressed dismay over the ongoing hijab crisis in Kwara State.

He advised Muslims to leave Kwara mission schools and establish or find hijab-wearing schools for their children.

Oyedepo made the remarks on the hijab controversy while speaking during a midweek service on Wednesday.

Recall Christians and Muslims have been at daggers drawn over the approval of hijabs for female students in 10 government grant-aided missionary schools in Oyo State.

”You know the reason why, we have never showed the world the other side of God. God is not a toy, let us show them the consuming fire part of God. They need to know.

Reacting, the Cleric who said the controversy was a nasty development urged the Kwara State Government to return the schools to the missionary.

He said, ”It is such a nasty development in Kwara State where Muslims are asking their students in our schools to wear Hijab, and the church said “no”

”You know the reason why, we have never showed the world the other side of God. God is not a toy, let us show them the consuming fire part of God. They need to know.

”Leave the schools for the owner, go to your schools. Is there any fight? Stop putting fingers in the eyes of others, the world should be warned against the church. The church is a time bomb.

”When God turns his back on anyone or any system, that system is cursed. My advice is leave the schools for the owners, find your schools. Men and women can wear hijab there. Stop putting your fingers in the eyes of others when they are not blind.

Oyedepo also prayed for an end to all harassment against the church in Nigeria.

  • Kwara’s hijab crisis worsens as hoodlums attack schools, shopping centres

Kwara’s hijab crisis worsens as hoodlums attack schools, shopping centres

The disturbing hijab crisis in Kwara State was heightened yesterday as suspected hoodlums attacked schools and shopping centres in Ilorin, the state capital.

The Christian community, the former owner of the 10 government grant- aided schools also mobilised its own forces to counter the attack in the bid to protect their people and property.

The prompt intervention of personnel of the State Police command, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigeria Army, however, saved the situation from getting out of hand.

The hoodlums, it was gathered, brandished dangerous weapons including cutlasses and bottles while matching along some roads in Ilorin metropolis.

Some of the hoodlums spotted along Offa road, G.R.A, Ilorin wore masks apparently to cover their identity.

According to eyewitnesses, the hoodlums threw stones into the premises of Cherubim and Seraphim school at Sabo- Oke, Ilorin in a bid to force open the gate of the school.

The violence also spread to St. Barnabas LGEA Primary School, Murtala Muhammad Way, Ilorin and some churches in the area.

The Christian community mobilised its own forces to counter the attack in a bid to protect their people and property.

Owners of shops and offices located in the areas hurriedly closed for the day, to avoid attack.

It was reported that some shops were looted by the hoodlums.

Armed security agents patrolled the metropolis to restore peace.

Police spokesman Ajayi Okasanmi said the prompt intervention of their men and officers prevented the situation from worsening.

He said peace had been restored.

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) yesterday advised Kwara State Governor AbdulRaman AbdulRasaq not to set the state on fire with the hijab issue.

It spoke at Cornerstone City, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, through its President, Bishop Wale Oke, while hosting the Ekiti and Ondo chapters of the Fellowship led by Bishop Clement Abifade and Bishop Joshua Kolawole Opayinka.

Bishop Oke said if the hijab issue was not handled with care, it could cause crisis in the country.

Milititians promises and the unmasking of Fulani terrorists – Dele Sobowale

    Dele Sobowale

“Zamfara abduction’ll be the last.” President Buhari. March 1, 2021.

As you all know, we in the present government in Nigeria are committed to ensuring that there is speedy and unimpeded transition to civic democratic rule in which we shall not be participants.” General Sani Abacha, during the inauguration National Constitutional Conference, Monday, June 27, 1994.

There is a link between the two statements by Nigeria’s generals which will be revealed soon. Let me start with the second. Until Abacha made that statement, I wrote for VANGUARD only on Mondays. Suddenly, one day in August 1994, Uncle Sam, the Publisher opened my office door and asked: “Dele, why don’t you write something for us on Sunday?” It was totally unexpected and my first impulse was to refuse. But, you can’t say “No” to your employer, can you? He also wanted the article in about two hours. Just then a June copy of our paper was lying on my table with Abacha’s promise highlighted. I cannot quite lay my hands on the title of the article published in August 1994 anymore. But, I remember my major comment. “If you believe that [Abacha’s promise] then you will believe anything.” I then proceeded to explain why nobody should believe Abacha. I was convinced that the man was buying time with the Constitutional Conference, dubbed CONFAB by the media. He would renege on his promise once the reins of power were firmly in his grip.

That first article was more momentous than anybody could have foreseen. It also almost ended my life. I was saved by the fact that I was not yet on the regime’s radar among columnists regarded as dangerous. The official reaction was delayed for two weeks. Then on a Friday, as I was getting close to the office, somebody waved to me to stop. I did. Less than two minutes after, I was in the back seat of a car heading for my first detention under Abacha for calling the Head of State a liar. I survived that ordeal with a warning; but, I lived long enough to witness Abacha’s efforts aimed at self-succession. I also re-learnt a lesson about “milititians” – soldiers who take on political roles.

“Every government is run by liars, and nothing they say should be believed.”

I.F. Stone, 1907-1989, VANGUARD BOOK OF QUOTATIONS, VBQ p 80.

Abacha went further to reassure the delegates to what I later called THE SHIP OF FOOLS, by saying: “We are aware that it is neither in our personal interest, nor that of the nation to perpetuate ourselves in power.” The delegates gave him a standing ovation lasting ten full minutes. On June 9, 1998, Chief Ebenezer Babatope was scheduled to advance a proposal at a gathering convened by Chief Arthur Nzeribe. Our dear Ebino Topsy, a former strong Awoist, turned Abacha- collaborator was picked to ask all the elected members of the National Assembly, NASS, under Abacha’s fraudulent transition programme, to declare Abacha the ONLY Presidential candidate in the 1998 election. But, evil men proposed; God disposed. On June 8, 1998, a day before his coronation, Abacha dropped dead. I doubt if Babatope will ever release the original text of his proposal – which would have been loaded with half-truths and absolute falsehoods”. Later, we learnt that the man was a world class kleptomaniac – among his other vices.

“60 Women, children abducted in fresh Zamfara attack.” News, March 5, 2021.

From Abacha to Buhari is only one short mental step. When President Buhari declared the abduction of over 300 school girls in Zamfara the last, the statement had a familiar ring to it. Something told me we were being set up for a promise that might not be delivered. I wrote a short rejoinder to it last week; making clear that it is another politician’s promise unlikely to be delivered. Less than a week after the President’s promise, bandits struck again in the same Zamfara State. Ordinarily, that should be the end of the story. But, there is more.

THE THREE MUSKETEERS OF NORTHERN TERRORISTS

“The West does not want to accommodate other tribes, but we accommodate your tribe in Bauchi..” Governor Bala Mohammed.

“Nigerians’ll be shocked by those behind schoolgirls’ abduction.” Says Matawalle.

“What I want you people to understand is, soldiers that are involved in most of the criminalities are not Muslims. You know soldiers have Muslims and non-Muslims. The non-Muslims are the ones causing confusion just to ignite crisis.” Sheik Ahmad Gumi. Muslim Cleric leader.

If anybody is in search of people actively promoting terrorists in this country today, he can start with these three Northern Muslim leaders whose explosive utterances in recent times need to be exposed for what they are. I just hope their kit and kin in the Muslim North will remember that they spoke first. These rejoinders have become necessary because silence often means consent. Together, they represent good examples of why the North will not catch up to the South – even if the South stands still for 100 years. The first things they share in common are deception and deliberate falsehood. Let me start with Bala’s outrageous lie.

Is Lagos part of the West or not? At least thirty per cent of all properties in Lagos are owned by other tribes apart from Yoruba people. Surely Bala has visited Lagos several times. Very few of the trailers and tankers causing gridlock at Apapa-Oshodi expressway for more than six years are owned by Yoruba people. The truth is, there is no ethnic group in Nigeria whose peoples’ investments are not more in Lagos than in their own state. Can Bala say the same of Bauchi? But, may be I should stop being polite.

At 76+, I grew up in Lagos knowing about three beggars’ abodes – Cow Lane in Lagos Island, Kano Street at Ebute Meta, Obalende and Agege. All the beggars were Northerners. My mother was born in 1906 in the same Lagos and she found the beggars there. My grandmother was born in the same Lagos in 1874 and she told me that Bala’s fore-runners were already there begging. My children and now some grandchildren today still patronise beggars from the deep North. At least a dozen Northern beggars troop past my front gate everyday and they never fail to collect money from Yoruba people. Can Bala point to any place in Bauchi (or for that matter in the entire North) where Yoruba beggars gather? We all know who the workers are making contributions wherever they live. And, we know who the parasites and beggars are hanging on trailers; transported with cattle to Kara in Lagos. Bala is the last person to utter that sort of nonsense. Even the state he governs depends more on the sweats and labour of the South West people; and he knows it. Being governor is no licence to tell lies.

“Every time you negotiate with terrorists, you become their accomplice.”

    Israeli Counter-terrorism official. VBQ, p 244.

Governor Matawalle’s latest statement, like all the others on banditry and kidnapping remind me of a story told in New York City in 1968 by Mrs Golda Meir, 1898-1978, the first and only female Prime Minister of Israel, who led her tiny country to victory over 100 million AK-47 wielding Arabs. Born in Kiev, Russia, she recollected the story of a man who could predict when horses were going to be stolen – until it was discovered that his friends were the horse thieves. Matawalle had consistently gone against the global principle concerning ransom paid to terrorists and vowed not to stop. The obvious question is: “why?” Just as clear is the answer. “Matawalle must derive some benefit from this losing strategy.” Now, he has told us more than he realised. He knows the chief bandits and he is not ready to reveal their identities because to do so is to put an end to undisclosed amounts being taken out of state coffers ostensibly to pay bandits.

Who will be shocked? Count me out. I already have a short profile of some of the bandits. Just wait a while.

“Nobody stands all day in the rain for nothing.” Chief MKO Abiola, 1937-1998.

A Sheikh in Islam is the equivalent of an Archbishop, Prelate or General Overseer of a Christian movement. They are Men of God when they stick to the tenets of their faith. They become Satani’s disciples when they radically deviate from the creed. Thanks to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, I have an English copy of the Holy Quran. First, I challenge Gumi to point to any section of the Quran which says we should not only pardon mass murderers, rapists, arsonists and those torturing orphans and widows; but reward them in addition. The fact is, Gumi is an accomplice to bandits, kidnappers, rapists etc hiding in forests known to him.

Second, Area Boys did not need MKO Abiola to know that nobody undertakes the dangerous missions Sheikh Gumi had supposedly imposed on himself out of patriotism and altruism. We know the bait and switch tactics. The guy carrying the loot from Government House to bandits invariably stops along the way to lighten the load – if you know what I mean? Unfortunately, his religious fanaticism gave him away. He wanted to be popular with Northern politicians and bandits. And, he needed sacrificial lambs. He picked Christian soldiers. It was stupid; because, firstly, he can never substantiate the charge. Secondly, he had inadvertently told us who the bandits, rapists, arsonists and kidnappers are.

Gumi is very much aware that there are no Southerners among the criminals; he and Matawale also know that there are no Northern Christians among them. There are no Tiv, Nupe, Igbo, Berom, Egbe, Afemai etc among them. They are all Northern Muslims – like Gumi and Matawale. Thus, all they are doing is asking the rest of us to endorse a system under which their brothers will commit genocide on a large scale, extort huge amounts at gun-point, rape women with impunity and when finally caught be rewarded with more money. The question is: who benefits from this ridiculous scheme being proposed as national policy? The answer is: Gumi and his brothers.

Some television stations owned by Southerners have given Gumi a forum to publicise his self-serving views without getting knowledgeable Southerners to offer the truth as a rejoinder. Our Southern brothers are behaving as if they will be excluded from destruction if the bandits invade the South. They are gravely mistaken. Gumi is a Muslim religious fanatic operating under the fake umbrella of a cleric. We should recognise him for who, and what, he is. A liar.

    ANOTHER ABDUCTION IN ZAMFARA

“Truth is constant.” On March 1, 2021 the news media reported that Buhari vowed that the abduction of school girls would be the last abduction. I said. “If you believe that you will believe anything.” Three days after, bandits abducted more people in Zamfara; March 8, they snatched 30 in Niger. Case closed.

Quit notice: Enough is enough, no harm must befall Kukah, CAN tells Buhari

The Christian Association of Nigeria has written to President Muhammadu Buhari and cautioned those threatening the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Dr Matthew Kukah, to stop their “unlawful” actions and also asked the security agencies to ensure the safety and security of the cleric.

The organisation made this known in a press statement by its General Secretary, Joseph Daramola, on Thursday, in reaction to a statement credit to a Sokoto-based group, in which Kukah was asked to vacate the state (Sokoto) or tender an apology over his comments on Islam.

Part of the statement read, “We have been watching the unfolding scenario since Bishop Kukah spoke his mind on the State of the Nation in his Christmas homily and how some groups of people have been threatening him with fire and brimstone while all relevant security agencies are pretending as if nothing unusual is happening.

“We wonder if those threatening the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto are above the law or if they are sacred cows in the country.

“We have studied the whole Christmas message of Dr Kukah and we are yet to see any incitement against Islam or non- Christians. We see nothing wrong in his message to the nation that has been under the siege of terrorists, herdsmen killers, bandits and kidnappers as if there was no government in place. We see nothing wrong in telling a government whose lopsided appointments are against Christians the whole truth.

“If criticism against a Muslim President today, is an incitement to violence against Islam, it then means those who were criticising the duo of former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan when they were in power were actually attacking Christianity.

“When has it become an offence to speak the truth to power? When has it become a crime to criticise a government in the country?

CAN wondered why security operatives have failed to arrest those threatening to attack the Bishop, saying, “When did the Police and the Directorate of the State Security Services lose their power to miscreants and lawless people who are making boasts of their lawlessness without a challenge? We wonder if those Muslim groups who are threatening to deal with Kukah got equal response from their Christian counterparts, are we not setting up the country on fire?

“Bishop Kukah was posted to serve in Sokoto by the Papacy and threatening him to leave is a global threat to Christianity. In this same country, we have a Catholic Priest whose name is synonymous with President Muhammadu Buhari yet the Catholic Church has not deemed it fit to sanction him because Freedom of Speech and Association is not only a constitutional matter but godly.

“We call on President Muhammadu Buhari and all the security agencies to ensure that no harm befalls the Catholic Bishop of the Sokoto Diocese, Dr Matthew Hassan Kukah. As far as the Christian Association of Nigeria is concerned, what he said in his Christmas Homily was still within the ambience of the law.

“It is high time those hiding under religious sentiments to promote violence and crises stopped doing so if we want this country to progress. We have had enough of bloodshed in the country and we call on the security agencies to rise up to their constitutional responsibilities. Nothing must happen to Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah. Enough is Enough.”
