Serie A: Osimhen resumes light training ahead Napoli’s next game

Super Eagles and Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen has resumed light training in his bid to return to first team action for club and country.

Osimhen copped a hamstring injury on international duty last month.

The forward has missed the Partenopei’s last six games due to the setback.

However, the forward has been training on his own in the past few days.

Osimhen worked with his Napoli teammates for the initial part of the squad training session before he departed to work in the gym.

He will hope to make Napoli’s squad for Saturday’s league clash against Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium.

Osimhen misses Napoli training to bond with new born child

Nigerian football star and Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, missed training on Friday to bond with his new born baby girl in the city of Naples.

Recall that Osihmen’s long time girlfriend delivered a baby girl on Thursday.

His club, Napoli, broke the news in a statement on their official website without revealing where and when the child was born, with the mother’s identity also hidden

The 23-year-old, who is currently recovering from a hamstring injury, wasn’t present at training on Friday morning when the rest of the team resumed training after Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League 6-1 whitewash of Ajax in Amsterdam.

The Nigerian striker wasn’t known to be romantically involved with any woman, which is why the news of his daughter’s birth will come as a rude shock to his fans, especially in Nigeria.

The 23 year old striker could return back to action for Napoli in Serie A fixture against Cremonese on Sunday, and could also be available against Ajax in the Champions League.

Osimhen has not featured for Napoli since September 7, 2022 when he suffered the injury during their 4-1 thrashing of Liverpool at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in the Champions League.

He was replaced by Simeone 41 minutes into the match as the Azzurri ripped the Premier League giants apart in front of their raucous fans.

Prior to the injury, he featured in five Serie A matches in the new 2022/2023 season and played 425 minutes.

Osimhen thrown out of Napoli’s training over altercation with teammate

Super Eagles and Napoli striker   Victor Osimhen was on Sunday evening thrown out of the club’s training following a serious altercation and protest with a teammate on the pitch.

Luciano Spalletti’s side is two days into their camp in Castel di Sangro and was going through an open 11v11 training exercise when new signing Leo Ostigard, who was selected in Osimhen’s team, was the subject of a robust challenge by Cameroon international Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa.

The Nigeria international’s appeals for a foul call fell on deaf ears, leading him to remonstrate aggressively. Despite attempts by Anguissa to placate him, Osimhen would not be mollified.

Osimhen was angered that the foul was overlooked and wouldn’t stop protesting and talking over the issue.

However, Napoli’s boss, Spalletti had to send him away for talking too much and protesting the foul.

“You talk too much. Go and take a shower.” Spalletti yelled at him

This decision did not sit well with the striker, who ripped off his bib in protest and angrily gave it to a teammate on the bench before storming into the dressing room for a shower.

Osimhen’s temperament has come under increased scrutiny recently, as only last week he was involved in a heated argument with teammate Hirving Lozano during a friendly with Perugia.

There have been offers for Osimhen from Manchester United, Bayern Munich, and Newscastle but none has seen the light of the day.

However, for now, Osimhen remains a Napoli player, and his preparations for a third year at the club are well underway as he joins his teammates in pre-season training.

Only, the Nigerian ace hasn’t exactly made positive headlines with his behavior in Napoli’s training camp as he was sent off by manager Luciano Spalletti during a public session this week.

  • Victor Osimhen recounts life threatening injury at Napoli

Super Eagles and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has revealed how he felt when he had a face injury in a Serie A game against Inter Milan in November 2021.

The 23-year-old thought it was a minor injury at first but got the shock of his life from his doctors in Italy.

Osimhen made this disclosure on a radio programme, Wazobia FM in Lagos

He said “That injury I had against Inter Milan was like a near-death injury. I am the only one that felt it, and I can only speak about how I felt because it was my face and body.

“But to be able to stand up without using the stretcher, walk out of the pitch on my own, then I knew that it was something I could handle.

“For me, as I got to the hospital, I told my doctor that I would be out for two weeks maximum.”

He added: “When the scan came out, I fractured many bones, which they had to remove and fix inside again.

“I have like 18 screws under my jaw. I went through a lot. A lot of sleepless nights. I could not sleep, I could not eat with the pain. But at the end of the day, I am a lion, and I know the kind of mentality I have.

“In my mind, I had already scheduled my return following the surgery.”

Despite the injury, Osimhen went on to score 14 goals in Serie A to help Napoli finish behind champions AC Milan and Inter Milan.
