    I frankly don’t give a damn- El-Rufai tells Critics

The immediate past Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has fired back at his detractors on social media, saying he did not give a damn how they interpret his posts.

In a post on his X handle, the former governor said his critics were at will to interpret his posts the way they wish and nothing will change.

He said, “Interpret, mis-interpret or re-interpret any posts, by me or any others, as you wish. I frankly don’t give a damn.

“Abuse and insult with no basis. By all means, pass your judgment in ignorance and bigotry.

“Nothing will change. What will be, will be, in sha Allah. – @elrufai.”

The former Governor has been in the news since the time Kaduna State House of Assembly accused his administration of siphoning over N423 billion of the state’s resources.

In March this year, Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, said his administration inherited a huge debt burden of $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual liabilities from the previous administration of Nasir El-Rufai, lamenting that due to the rise in the exchange rate, the state is now paying back almost triple of what was borrowed by the previous administration.

N423bn Probe: El-Rufai drags Channels TV, lawmaker to court

The former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai has filed a lawsuit against Channels TV and a member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly Henry Marah over alleged defamation.

In the lawsuit filed before an FCT High Court dated July 11, 2024, El-Rufai, through his counsel, A.U. Mustapha, said the lawmaker made derogatory comments during an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today show on June 5.

Marah was quoted in the interview as saying that El-Rufai’s borrowings during his time as governor were done without due process and the funds unaccounted for.

El-Rufai is being investigated for alleged mismanagement of N423 billion loan.

The ex-governor is contending that the interview was “malicious, unwarranted, without justification, defamatory and greatly injurious to the reputation of the claimant.”

The former governor is demanding the sum of N3 billion jointly over the injury, embarrassment and distress suffered by the claimant in respect of the loss of reputation and goodwill as a result of the malicious, unwarranted and defamatory publication.

El-Rufai had earlier filed an N1 billion suit claiming lack of fair hearing to him by the ad-hoc committee on Investigation of loans, financial transactions, contractual liabilities and other related matters of the government of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023.

No date has been fixed for the hearing.

N423bn state funds: Kaduna Assembly hits back at El-rufai’s former appointees over utterances

Kaduna State House of Assembly has hit back at some senior political appointees of former governor Nasir El-rufai over utterances during a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday following the House probe report that indicted them and El-rufai from 2015 to 2023 of the administration of the State.

Recall that an ad hoc committee set up by the Kaduna State House of Assembly to investigate all finances, loans and contracts awarded under the immediate-past governor had indicted El-Rufai and some of his appointees of siphoning N423bn state funds.

The former appointees described as unfair and irresponsible the allegation by the Kaduna State House of Assembly that the former government mismanaged N423bn state funds, just as El-rufai had since approached Federal High Court, Kaduna for assassination of character.

However, in a statement on Wednesday,
Chair Fact-Feeding Committee/Deputy Speaker Kaduna State House of Assembly, Henry Magaji told the former political Aides of El-Rufai to prepare to face anti-corruption agencies and courts instead of wasting their energies on public utterances.

“The attention of the Kaduna State House of Assembly has been drawn to a press conference addressed by some senior political appointees of the immediate past administration of Malam Nasir El-Rufai. In the press conference, the former political appointees made strenuous efforts to pick holes in the report of the Probe Committee. They resorted to name calling and wild allegations on the motivations for the House Probe.

“The press conference was just a rehash of the vituperations and innuendoes heaped on us by the former political appointees in their first press briefing. There was nothing new that should warrant our response. They failed to address the main issue, which is the systematic and coordinated cornering of the resources of Kaduna State through phoney contracts and outright looting.

“The State House of Assembly, in line with its constitutional mandate and in response to public demand, carried out a thorough probe into the humongous debts incurred by the immediate past administration without commensurate projects.

“We dug deep and unearthed the monumental heist carried out in Kaduna State in the guise of projects execution. Our findings revealed a litany of poorly executed projects, abandoned projects, and projects that exists only in the imagination of executive scammers.

“We have called on anti-corruption agencies to step in and invite indicted persons for questioning. It is the anti-corruption agencies that can either validate or disprove our findings, not individuals who spent their days in public office cornering the common patrimony of the people of Kaduna State and mortgaging the future of its children and grandchildren.

“We urge the former political appointees to deploy their energies towards preparing their defences before the anti-corruption agencies, and eventually the courts. The House of Assembly is not in a battle of wits with them. We have done our duty to the people of Kaduna State. Let them answer to the charges of malfeasance, abuse of office, disrespect for the law and due process leveled against them.

“We are currently in court with the head of the indicted administration, Malam Nasir El-Rufai over the issue of fair hearing. We shall not comment on the matter because it is sub-judice. We stand for the rule of law and due process.

“We are elected representatives of the people. We are accountable to the people. We have a constitutional responsibility to make laws and carry out functions for the welfare, safety and security of the people. The probe carried out by the House is in furtherance of the oath we took to advance the interests of the people of Kaduna State.

“The few political appointees who have been making desperate but futile moves to denigrate the House and cover up the alleged fraud perpetrated by the previous government represent no one but themselves. If they genuinely have the interest of Kaduna State and are truly men and women of integrity, they would have applied themselves to developing the state instead of participating in the alleged pilfering of its scarce resources”.

‘I can’t say I know for sure if my father is a thief’ – El-Rufai’s son responds to critics

The son of the former governor of Kaduna State Nasir El-Rufai, Bashir El-Rufai on Thursday replied to a netizen who inquired if the ex-governor stole public funds.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the Kaduna State House of Assembly had in May 2024 called for the prosecution of El-Rufai, after accusing him of diverting N423 billion and leaving the state in significant debt due to mismanagement.

A group known as the Kaduna Citizens Watch for Good Governance on Wednesday took the case ahead after lodging a petition at the office of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), urging the commission to commence El-Rufai’s prosecution.

In June 2024, the same group led a protest to the Kaduna Government House where they made a similar demand for the arrest and prosecution of El-rufai and other members of the administration indicted by the assembly.

Victor Duniya, chairman of the group had addressed reporters shortly after submitting their petition to the ICPC, saying they submitted a similar petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja for the agency to expedite action on the prosecution of El-Rufai and others.

On Thursday, a netizen on the microblogging platform, X formerly Twitter, named Onye Spare Parts asked the younger El-Rufai in Pidgin English, “Your papa thief abi e no thief?”

Responding, the ex-governor son said he could not say for certain that his father was innocent of the allegations.

He said, “I can’t say I know for sure o. That one na between him and Allah. But I personally do not believe the father I know that raised me and my siblings is a thief. However, to each their own to believe as they wish.”

He then asked the netizen, “You, your papa na thief? Or him too na between him & Jesus?”

El-Rufai fires at Kaduna Assembly, describes probe as politically motivated

The immediate past Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has dismissed the recent report by an ad-hoc committee of the Kaduna State House of Assembly that investigated his administration.

El-Rufai, 55, who served as governor of Kaduna state from 2015 to 2023 labelled the probe as a “politically motivated” and defended his tenure, asserting that the committee’s findings are baseless.

In April, the Kaduna State House of Assembly on Tuesday set up a committee to investigate the financial transactions, loans, and contracts under the administration of Nasiru El-Rufai, the immediate past governor of the state.

Following the investigations, the ad hoc committee recommended the prosecution of the immediate past governor after presenting its findings revealing misappropriation of funds and abuse of power.

El-Rufai’s Media Adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, released a statement in which the former governor strongly criticised the committee’s process and conclusions, claiming that the investigation was biased from the start, aiming to tarnish his reputation rather than seeking the truth.

“We are aware of news that the Kaduna State House of Assembly has adopted the report of the ad-hoc committee it asked to probe the El-Rufai government. We have not been availed a copy of the report, to which we will respond robustly whenever we obtain it. We affirm the integrity of the El-Rufai government and dismiss the scandalous claims being aired as the report of the committee,”

“Malam Nasir El-Rufai is immensely proud of his record of governance and the legacy he left in Kaduna State. This record of consistently high performance in public and private office cannot be altered by any malicious effort to use the auspices of a state legislature for defamation and undeserved smears.

“Many of the officials who served in the El-Rufai government appeared before the ad-hoc committee because of their confidence in the quality of their service and the rectitude with which they served Kaduna State.

“They were under no illusion that they were participating in a fair process. It was obvious that the ad-hoc committee was merely going through the motions of an inquiry just to give some gloss to predetermined conclusions.

At the presentation of its findings to the Kaduna state house of assembly during a plenary session on Wednesday, Henry Zacharia, the committee chair, reported that the loans from El-Rufai’s term were often misallocated, and the loan acquisition process occasionally lacked proper procedure.

Yusuf Liman, speaker, received the report, noting that the El-Rufai administration misappropriated N423 billion, resulting in huge debt for the state.

The committee also recommended the suspension of Shizer Badda, the current finance commissioner, who held the same role under El-Rufai’s administration, and the chairman of the state universal basic education board.

El-Rufai condemned the findings as a breach of decency and fairness by the state legislature.

“It is sad to see such a shameful departure from any notion of decency and fairness by a state legislature. We dismiss with contempt the claims being peddled in connection with the report.

He further emphasised his pride in his administration’s achievements and the legacy he left in Kaduna State.

“Malam El-Rufai wishes to assure discerning Nigerians that he has served Kaduna State with integrity and to the best of his capacity, assisted by a hardworking and patriotic team.

“He complied with all extant laws in all his activities while he was the governor. This jaundiced probe should be disregarded as the politically motivated hatchet job it is.”

Amend your policies that are not yielding results – El-Rufai tells Tinubu

Malam Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has advised President Bola Tinubu to drop any of his appointees who failed to deliver on his mandate.

El-Rufai said this when he spoke with newsmen in Maiduguri on Monday, urging the president to also explore the possibility of amending some of his policies that were not yielding the desired results.

“You appointed a person into a position and he is not working according to the expectation, you should have the humility to tell him that I need a better person, go and do something else,” he said.

El-Rufai called for prayers and support from the citizens for the administration in its quest to turn around things.

“What we must to do as citizens is to pray for our leaders for God to guide them to see or do what is right.

“For God to give them the humility to reverse themselves when necessary and do the right thing; that’s how society progresses,” he said.

APC suspends women leader for defending ex-Gov El-Rufai

The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Badarawa/Malali ward has suspended Hajiya Maryam Mai-Rusau, the State Women leader for reportedly defending  former Gov. Nasir El-Rufai over the alleged recent controversy on the state’s huge debt.

The suspension was contained in a letter co-signed by the Ward Chairman and Secretary, Ali Maishago and Zakka Bassahuwa, respectively and made available to newsmen on Sunday in Kaduna.

It said: “The Badarawa/Malali Ward APC Executive Committee after due deliberations and careful examinations on the viral video clip released on 30th March, 2024 via social networks; Facebook, Whats-app, and Tiktok, which is against the constitution of our dear party, APC as stated in article 21.2 (v).

“In view of the above, below are the gross misconducts where the subsequent suspension relied upon:

“Defamation of the character of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kaduna State,  Malam Uba Sani.

“Unauthorized publicity of the party’s dispute that discredited the personality of the Executive Governor of Kaduna State.”

Recall that Gov Uba Sani on Friday lamented the high debt profile he inherited from his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai.

Sani, who spoke at a town hall meeting in Kaduna said his administration inherited a debt burden of $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual liabilities from the El-Rufai administration.

El-Rufai warns ECOWAS against military invasion, says Niger, northern Nigeria are one

The immediate Ex-Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has advised the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to halt its planned military intervention in Niger Republic.

The former governor said this following a statement by ECOWAS defence chiefs that they would not have any choice but to use force against Niger.

The chairperson of ECOWAS, President Bola Tinubu, recently said the regional bloc had resolved to use force as a last resort if the Niger coup leaders do not relinquish power to the ousted President Mohamed Bazoum.

While advising ECOWAS to tread with caution, El-Rufai said African nationals are brothers and war in any country within the region will be injurious to all.

“As ECOWAS beats the drums of war, I recall the 1970s rock classic by Dire Straits – ‘Brothers in Arms’, because a war within our subregion is a war between brothers. Indeed, the people of Niger Republic are one and the same with those living in Northern Nigeria,” El-Rufai said via Twitter.

“Let us bend therefore over backwards to avoid this civil war between brothers.”

Okotete, El-Rufai, Danladi left out as NASS transmits list of confirmed ministerial nominees to presidency

The National Assembly (NASS) has transmitted the list of confirmed 45 ministerial nominees to the Presidency, leaving out ex-Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and others not cleared.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the Senate had on Monday confirmed the appointment of 45 ministerial nominees and put on hold the confirmation El-Rufai, Sen. Abubakar Danladi and Stella Okete.

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, explained that the trio were not confirmed because they were still awaiting security clearance.

The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Sen. Abdullahi Gumel confirmed that the list of the confirmed 45 ministerial nominees has been transmitted to the Presidency.

Speaking while briefing newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, Gumel said: “We transmitted the confirmed list yesterday (Monday) by about 11:30 p.m. to the Chief of Staff to the President.

“The list is now with the Executive, which means that the ministerial nominees were cleared by the Senate and confirmed.”

He appreciated the Senators who he said sacrificed their recess and stayed back as patriotic Nigerians to conclude the screening and confirmation of the nominees.

“The interesting thing about what happened in the Senate is that, there wasn’t opposition. The passion and commitment they showed to the work is commendable.

“I’m very grateful to the 10th Senate for making our jobs, those of us who represent the executive, very easy and very interesting. So confirming the portfolios of the ministerial nominees, that one is Presidential grace,” he said.

Gumel also explained that the number of the nominees was increased from the usual 42 to 48.

“We have increased the number of ministerial nominees from what we used to have, that is 42.

“Our President sent 48 so we felt what would happen is that some of the ministries which are so big are to be merged together or separated for easy oversight by the Senate, like the Ministry of Works and Housing, which we felt should be separated.

“This is so that they can accommodate the number of ministers. The President will give them portfolios so that the government can get going. It is the prerogative of the President,” Gumel said.

He also said that the crop of nominees were drawn from the private sector, technocrats and politicians, governors, serving and non-serving Senators, members of House of Representatives, Nigerian women and youths.

“They will help to achieve the ”Renewed Hope” mantra because Nigerians are waiting for the President to get his government running,” Gumel said.
