  • “Harmless goats from Anambra”: Gov El-Rufai’s son faces backlash over insensitive comments

One of the children to a sitting Nigerian Governor Bashir El-Rufai, has made derogatory comments targeted at a particular ethnic group in the country.

This comes barely a week after combined military troops from the Nigerian Army and Navy were accused of killing dozens of innocent citizens, in Ogbaru, Anambra State.

On Monday, El-Rufai had hailed the media interview a former governor of Kano State and presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) Rabiu Kwankwaso.

During the interview, Kwankwaso advised his counterpart from the Labour Party Peter Obi, to accept to become his running mate in the forthcoming elections.

He stated that with Obi on the ticket of the NNPP as a vice-presidential candidate in 2023, the South-East would be better positioned to actualize its presidential ambition in the future.

“I am ecstatic Kwankwaso really put these delusional lunatics in their place on that interview,” El-Rufai tweeted.

When another user with the handle @Pauly51158264 told him, “You’ll end up causing yourself harm,” El-Rufai responded even more harshly.

He wrote: “From you harmless goats from Anambra? ?????”

This is not the first time the son of the Governor of Kaduna State Nasir El-Rufai would be making such debasing remarks on the platform, and he has often come under heavy criticisms for his uncivil utterances.

He also alleged on Monday that award-winning investigative journalist David Hundeyin, who fled the country in the aftermath of the controversial nationwide EndSARS protest which took place in 2020, was gay.

“David Hundeyin lied that he’s a homosexual so he can have asylum. It is what he does. Then he comes online to pretend to be an investigative journalist. Guy just keep bending over for oyinbo at expensive hotels and collecting your social security checks,” the younger El-Rufai wrote.

He however, returned to the platform hours later to offer a public apology after he was called out: “I went too far & vulgar with Hyundai. I apologise to those I respect & didn’t expect that from me”.

Rufai disclosed this when Amaechi met with APC delegates from Kaduna ahead of the party’s national convention.

El-Rufai also added that poaching some members and governors of PDP was a good decision.

“Let me tell you my history with Amaechi. When we started discussing with the G-7, the seven governors that wanted to defect to the APC, I was holding nocturnal meetings with Amaechi and Governor Nyako of Adamawa State until we got five of them to move to our party, and that was the game-changer.

“And for you to understand how difficult it is, imagine Amaechi of Rivers State from the same South-South with incumbent President Jonathan.

2023 presidential primaries: Kaduna APC delegates back Amaechi

Delegates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State on Sunday, pledged to give their votes to Presidential Aspirant and outgoing Minister of Transportation, Rt Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

The delegates made the decision two days after they had promised same to another visiting Presidential aspirant, stating that the earlier pledge by some of the delegates to that aspirant was a spur of the moment decision which no longer stands.

Addressing the delegates during the consultative visit by Amaechi to the State, Governor El Rufai said, “I told you when you made that pledge to Asiwaju that others may not come, because of what you have done. You made that choice without listening to anyone else. Today you have seen the difference. You’ve heard Amaechi, you’ve seen what he has done. And he has brought a very strong security team. So you know what will happen with our security if he is in charge.”

“What are you going to do? Who are you supporting now? You have a huge burden on you, and you must choose what is best for Kaduna and for Nigeria,” El Rufai said.

He further narrated his experience of the goodness and sterling leadership qualities of Amaechi, from when he was Governor till date, and why President Muhammadu Buhari has high regard for him. He described Amaechi as a friend who sticks closer than a brother, stating that he is trustworthy.

“Let me tell you my history with Governor Amaechi….When we started discussing with the G-7, the seven governors that wanted to defect to the APC, I was holding nocturnal meetings with Governor Amaechi and Governor Nyako of Adamawa State until we got five of them to move to our party, and that was the game changer. And for you to understand how difficult it is, imagine Governor Amaechi of Rivers State from the same South South with incumbent President Jonathan. He made the sacrifice to move to our party. It was a game changer. This is part of the reason why President Buhari loves Minister Amaechi till tomorrow.

“One time the SSS wanted to arrest me, that I wrote something. Governor Amaechi called and said I will take you there and I will not leave until they let you go, what did you do? He took me there in his car and stayed there until they let me go. Till tomorrow, my wife will never forget that. Amaechi is her favourite Nigerian.

“I’m putting this in context so you’ll understand. APC is one family and this primary is an internal competition. We don’t need to call each other names, but let us bring out the virtues and good character of everyone. It is up to you as delegates to make the best choice for Nigeria,” the Governor stated.

Governor El-Rufai then asked the delegates who is their choice for President, to which the delegates unanimously chorused “Amaechi” and “Dan Amanar”, the traditional Daura title of Amaechi

Speaking on behalf of the delegates, Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Yusuf Ibrahim Zailani, declared that Kaduna State delegates have reached the conclusion to give all their votes to the Dan Amanar Daura, Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi.

Untold story of how 200 bandits stormed Kaduna Int’l Airport

More revelations have emerged from last Saturday’s invasion of Kaduna International Airport by 200 bandits, as it was alleged that they went on the mission to revenge the taking of their cows by the military.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the invasion stopped two aircraft from flying and one security personnel of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) was shot in the head.

It was gathered that the bandits were repelled by the military stationed at the airport, but they resurfaced around 1200am.

According to an airport staff who spoke on anonymity, over 200 bandits stormed the airport around 12:00 am.

He said they were speaking in Hausa, saying: “Zamu rufe airport ba jirgi da zai tashi”, translating to mean “We will shut down this airport, no aircraft will fly in and out”.

In his words: “In fact, our staff resumed work this morning as usual. They worked around the runway from 5:00 am till around 12:00 pm.

“Then, shortly after that, some NAMA staff went to check some of their equipment, then these people (bandits) appeared and started shooting.

“The NAMA engineers scampered for safety, they could not even go and enter the vehicle that took them to the site. It was in the process that their security man was shot in the head”.

He said the injured security man was taken to the hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival.

“As I am talking to you now, the military is still battling those guys, and they are proving difficult to be repelled. Now, they have shut down the Airport,” the source added.

TNG gathered that more military, security operatives were deployed to the Airport, for clearance operation using the Armoured Personnel Carrier.

    FAAN’s account:

Meanwhile, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) had provided more details of the attack and confirmed a staff member was killed by the assailants.

The agency said a “group of bandits” attacked the Runway 05 axis but were repelled by security forces.

It said normalcy has since been restored at the airport and security officials recovered two motorbikes abandoned by the bandits.

The airport manager, Amina Salami, had earlier confirmed the attack, saying bandits invaded the airport through the perimeter fence from a nearby forest at about 1 p.m.

She said a security guard who was patrolling the runway was shot by the assailants before soldiers, attracted by the sound of gunshots, responded.

The attack delayed the takeoff of a Lagos-bound flight.

Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said “I commended the security forces for their prompt response to the attack, and for repelling the attackers, and condoled with the family of the victim.”

FAAN said in a statement on Twitter that a reinforcement team from the Nigerian Defence Academy was on ground to ensure safety and security of airport workers/users.

“The Authority uses this opportunity to sympathise with the family and friends of the victim of this unfortunate incident,” the statement signed by Faithful Hope-Ivbaze, Ag. General Manager, Corporate Affairs, said.

2023: If Buhari should insist I run for president, I will – Gov El-Rufai

Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai has said if President Muhammadu Buhari should insist he run for the office of president in the 2023 General Elections, he will obey.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Governor El-Rufai made this known on Wednesday while stressing that he has no intention to contest the 2023 presidential election.

El-Rufai, who disclosed this while speaking on Channels TV, said he was physically tired and needs to take a break from politics when his tenure as Governor of Kaduna State ends in 2023.

While reiterating that he never wanted to run for the office of the Governor of Kaduna State but that the president prevailed over him, El-Rufai also addressed speculations of him being running mate to former Governor Rotimi Amaechi in the 2023 elections.

“I’ve said over and over that I’m not a contestant for any office. I’m not aspiring for anything. If [former] Governor Rotimi Amaechi is interested in running for any office, he has the right to do so. But I’m not running for anything and I’m not going to be on his ticket.

“I’m physically tired because I do take my work seriously. For the last eight years, I’ve worked myself flat out and I’m not young anymore. I’ll be 63 next year.

“So I prefer to look at other options to contribute to the development of my country. But of course, I didn’t want to run for Governor, but the President insisted; so if he insists that I do something, I have so much regard for him and his judgement, that I will do it even reluctantly,” El-Rufai said.

APC crisis: Buni is gone for good, can only return as Yobe Gov – El-Rufai

Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has revealed that Mai Mala Buni can never return as National Chairman of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Governor El-Rufai also insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari directed that the caretaker committee chairman should be fired.

He said that the National Secretary, Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe, was also affected by Buhari’s directive.

The Kaduna Governor who spoke last night on Channels Television Politics Today said that neither the ousted National Chairman nor the Secretary would return as national officials of the party.

El-Rufai alleged that the former National Chairman and his team got a court order which they hid to stop the APC National Convention.

He said: “Buni is gone, the Secretary is gone. Gov. Bello is in charge and he has the backing of President Muhammadu Buhari and 19 governors.

“ Buni can only return as Governor of Yobe but never as chairman of our Party.

“President Buhari ordered his removal and this has been implemented.

“Governor Bello has taken over and things are moving according to plan.

“Party will be restored, convention will take place as scheduled. 19 governors and their deputies are solidly behind this move.

“Buni and his people got a court order to stop the convention but hid it.”

  • Hare-brained thoughts and actions rather than good governance – By Owei Lakemfa

Hare-brained thoughts and actions rather than good governance – By Owei Lakemfa

    By Owei Lakemfa

THE Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folashade Mejabi Yemi-Esan, on January 17, 2022 announced that the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, is not a trade union.

I am not sure if this magisterial pronouncement is a result of ignorance, sycophancy or a fascist scheme to clamp down on the academics union. Under the military regimes, whenever they were losing a major labour dispute or were being dusted by a union, they turned round to pronounce the union illegal.

That way they hoped, in child-like innocence, that the industrial dispute would disappear. ASUU has been a victim of such tyranny a number of times but never succumbed.

Although Nigerians say if you wake up early in the morning and a cock starts chasing you, you should run because you do not know if it has grown teeth overnight; but I am sure the Head of Service has not transformed into a judge overnight.

I equally read that the dentist also ruled her professional association, the Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, ineligible to participate in employment matters affecting doctors. I am sure that the NMA can easily put Dr. Yemi-Esan in her place if she gets so power-drunk as to challenge it. Such a challenge would amount to a drunk mortal challenging the gods to a duel.

I am more willing to assume that her pronouncements are based on ignorance of the Constitution. First, the Trade Unions Act No 17 of 2005 defines a union: “Trade Union means any combination of workers or employers, whether temporary or permanent, the purpose of which is to regulate the terms and conditions of employment of workers…”

This precisely is what ASUU is doing, and has done since its 1965 formation when Dr. Yemi-Esan was a one-year- old baby. ASUU was then known as the Nigerian Association of University Teachers.

In claiming that ASUU is not a trade union or recognised as such, Dr. Yemi-Esan is publicly displaying unfamiliarity with the Nigerian Constitution which is the groundnorm. Section 40 states in simple English language that: “Every person shall be entitled to assemble freely and associate with other persons, and in particular he may form or belong to any political party, trade union or any other association for the protection of his interests.”

How come Dr. Yemi-Esan, despite having been a federal permanent secretary in the last one decade in strategic ministries like Information and Culture, Education, and Petroleum Resources, and three years now as Head of Service, does not know this?

Why is she not blessed with knowledgeable subordinates that can let her know she is trying to rape the Nigerian Constitution? My advice to her is to help government deliver on badly needed good governance rather than spend precious time seeking to stir up troubles where there are none. Even if she has been instructed to provoke ASUU and the NMA, should she not apply some wisdom?

In Kaduna State, Governor Nasir el-Rufai has with effect from 2022, introduced his own hare-brained distraction by decreeing a four-day work week. Under this, the daily work hours are increased from eight to nine, and Friday is added to Saturday and Sunday as work free. He hinged his decision on three planks.

First, that he wants workers to have more rest. The question is: are workers in the state overworked? The answer is no because the universal eight-hour work day or 40-hour work week, is what runs in Kaduna State.

This system has built in it, the rest required by human beings. It has its origins in 1886 when, based on various considerations, including productivity, leisure and rest, the 24 hours in a day was divided into three equal parts: eight hours for work, eight hours for sleep and eight hours free time.

This is what gave rise to the popular slogan: “Eight hours for work, eight hours for rest and eight hours for what you will.” As we know, there are additional rest days annually, including paid leave and public holidays. So this reason is not logical.

The second reason he gave is that he wants public servants to have more time to farm. This is a laughable reason because banditry, terrorism, mass destruction and theft of farm produce is so high that many professional farmers have abandoned the farms.

A third reason el-Rufai gave is that he wants workers to spend more time with their families. This may give the impression that the state government is dedicated to family life. Its actions do not support this. First is that the main concern of families in Kaduna State is not the absence of working parents, but serious insecurity and hunger.

The worker spending more time at home will not put food on the table nor reduce the effects of runaway inflation. In fact, if the state workers are paid living wages and food is available, accessible and cheap, the worker would need no sermon to stay more with the family. On the contrary, he is likely to want to stay more outside the home rather than stare at the hungry faces of his family.

If anything, the el-Rufai administration by its repeated mass sack of workers and increasing the burden of families, is one of the most anti-worker governments in the country. In 2021 alone, without following laid down redundancy procedures, he forced 3,000 civil servants and 7,310 local government staff into the unemployment seas without live jackets. His reason was that workers constitute only five per cent of the populace and salaries consume lots of resources.

He also withheld the April salaries of about 20,000 workers, illegally reversed the constitutional minimum wage of local government employees, and refused to implement staff promotions. He capped these with the unconstitutional harassment of workers.

He further burdened the general citizenry, including the youths by imposing astronomical school fees. For instance, he raised the school fees at the Kaduna State University, KASU, from between N24,000 and N26,000 to N150,000; those for medical students to N300,000, while the fees of non-indigenes was raised to N500,000.

When workers and students peacefully protested against these inhuman policies, armed thugs were unleashed on them. Perhaps aware that his undemocratic and illegal actions would be put under scrutiny, el-Rufai spurned legal moves by the Federal Ministry of Labour to get both sides to the negotiation table.

In any case, el-Rufai is merely carrying out a rehearse of the myopic four-day work week introduced in Imo State in 2017 by the then Governor Rochas Okorocha and that in Benue State by Governor Samuel Ortom. Those in government need to concentrate on providing good governance and delivering the dividends of democracy rather than engage in inanities.

BREAKING: President Buhari recounts near death experience in 2014 bomb attack

President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed he escaped death near Kawo bridge, while travelling to Katsina State in July 2014.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports President Buhari revealed this on Thursday in Kaduna State, while speaking at the newly constructed Kawo bridge executed by the Governor Nasir El-Rufai administration.

Buhari said: “There was an attempt to bomb me here…there was a market nearby…. [they] wanted to blow me but my escort somehow stopped them.

“I have lived in Kaduna for many years; I am very much aware of this route. I would not recall how much I crossed it”.

Meanwhile, El-Rufai vividly recalled how Boko Haram terrorists tried to kill the President.

He recalled it was just under the same bridge commissioned by the President that the terrorists tried to kill him.

“It is my great honour and privilege, Mr President, to bring you to the Kawu Flyover.

“Mr President will recall this bridge very well because it was just under this bridge that Boko Haram tried to kill you.

“By the grace of God, you are still alive, you are with us and God preserved you so that you will lead us and inspire us to do some of what we are doing,” El-Rufai said at the event.

TNG reports Buhari reiterated that there is the likelihood of him making Kaduna his home after leaving office in 2023.

Buhari has, however, always used Kaduna as his home state before winning election in 2015.

This is the first official visit to the state to commission public projects since his election.
