Defamation case won’t fly, settle amicably – Verydarkman weighs in on Akpabio-Natasha scandal:

Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman, has added his voice to the ongoing scandal surrounding Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan.

Natasha had recently granted an interview where she alleged that Akpabio made unwanted advances at her in his home in 2023. Reacting to the development, Verydarkman expressed solidarity with Natasha, stating that he’s firmly behind her.

However, Verydarkman also urged Natasha to open up about whether Akpabio was involved in any fraudulent activities. He vowed to be the first to lead a protest if necessary, emphasizing his commitment to protecting the country’s interests.

Regarding Natasha’s defamation case against Akpabio, Verydarkman expressed doubts about its viability. He cited Akpabio’s position as the country’s number three citizen, implying that this could hinder the case’s progress. Verydarkman advised Natasha to consider settling the matter amicably, given its personal nature.

The activist emphasized that he’s not taking sides but is committed to fighting for justice. He warned that if Akpabio is found to be involved in any activities hindering Nigeria’s progress, he’ll be the first to take action against him.

Natasha vs Akpabio: Ex-VP Atiku calls for thorough investigation

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called for investigation into allegations of sexual harassment, intimidation and mistreatment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio by Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP-Kogi).

In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, Abubakar described the allegations as “grave and deserve a thorough, impartial, and transparent investigation.’’

Abubakar, Presidential Candidate of the PDP in the 2023 general election, urged President Bola Tinubu and the Senate to ensure a credible, transparent, and independent investigation.

“The Nigerian Senate represents the voice of the people.

“Those who serve in it — especially its leadership — must uphold the highest standards of integrity, dignity, and respect, both for their office and for the Nigerian citizens they serve.

“As the third most powerful figure in the country, the Senate President should embody unimpeachable character.

“Sexual harassment in the workplace is a significant barrier to women’s advancement and, by extension, the nation’s progress.

“Allegations of such misconduct should never be simply dismissed, particularly when they involve a public officer with immense power, influence, and responsibility,’’ Abubakar said.

He said that as the chief presiding officer of the upper chamber, the senate president had a duty to champion the protection and empowerment of Nigerian women through legislation.

He added that the senate president should, therefore, not to be the subject of allegations that undermine those very principles.

Abubakar said that the handling of the matter would send a strong message about Nigeria’s commitment to justice, accountability, and the inclusion of women in governance.

“With only four women currently serving in the Senate, it is imperative that we foster an environment where female legislators can serve without fear of harassment or intimidation.

“This moment demands careful and principled action to uphold the integrity of our institutions and ensure that every Nigerian, regardless of gender, is treated with dignity and respect,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, the media consultant to the Senate President, Kenny Okulogbo, on Friday, described the allegations as “tissues of lies”.

Okulogbo said that the Kogi lawmaker was angry because of her removal  as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Content.

“All that Senator Natasha said are all tissues of lies. She is just angry because she was removed as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Content.

“The Senate President will respond. We will make an official statement soon,’’ Okulogbo said.

She further alleged that her trouble in the Senate began after she rejected sexual advances from Akpabio.

However, reacting to the claims, Ekaette Akpabio, while speaking at her residence in Abuja on Friday, described the allegations as baseless and a product of Akpoti-Uduaghan’s imagination.

She also highlighted the long-standing cordial relationship between her family and that of the Kogi senator, implying that the accusations were inconsistent with their past interactions.

“The allegations are unfounded, as she was present at her family residence on the alleged date 8th December, 2023,” she said.

If you take care of me, I will make you happy – Natasha blows hot, accuses Akpabio of proposing sexual affair to her

The Senator representing the Central Senatorial District of Kogi State in the National Assembly (NASS), Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has accused Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, of soliciting a romantic relationship with her.

TheNewsGuru reports that Natasha during an interview on Arise TV on Friday, February 28, 2025 disclosed that Akpabio, made inappropriate advances towards her during a visit to his residence in Akwa Ibom.

Recounting the incident on Friday, the Kogi Central senator claimed that the encounter occurred in December, just a day before their respective birthdays.

“It all started the day before his birthday and my birthday because we are birthday mates. We were all in Akwa Ibom. At first, we were in his house at Ikot Ekpene. Then we all went to his house in Uyo, then he held my hands, walking around from room to room, he showed me the beautiful interiors.

“He got to this particular sitting room and asked me if I liked his house. I said of course, Sir, every room is beautiful, beautiful taste. And he said, Now you are a senator, I am going to create time for us to come create quality moments here. You will enjoy it.’ At that point, I just pulled away because I didn’t understand what he meant,” she said.

The Kogi senator further noted that since she rejected Apkabio’s sexual advances, the senate president has consistently undermined her role as a senator, including removing her from key committees and reassigning her Senate seat without notice.

She added that she had once visited Akpabio in his office, wherein the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State told her she would enjoy many benefits if she takes care of him.

Meanwhile, Natasha recently filed a 100 million naira suit against the office of the Senate President and Senator Godswill Akpabio.

The suit, marked CU/737/25 filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja, also demands a public apology and a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from further publishing defamatory statements against her.

Senator Natasha has recently engaged in a series of confrontations with Senate President Akpabio, highlighting tensions within the Nigerian Senate.

Nigerian radio personality, Ordinary President Ahmad Isah has declined to honour the invitation extended to him by the National Assembly (NASS).

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Ordinary President Isah is the President and Founder of Nigeria’s first ever human rights radio, popularly known as Brekete Family Radio/TV.

Isah, however, elected to send representatives. He was invited to appear before the Nigerian Senate over a recent broadcast of the Brekete Family radio show.

Isah during the broadcast spoke with Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over grievances she is having with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Isah called Senator Natasha and the Senate President on the live show on Friday, February 21 but was only able to speak with the female Senator.

While Natasha responded to the call and alleged that she was victimised by the Senate leadership, the number Isah called for Akpabio did not pick three times.

It was later found that the number Isah called on the live programme did not belong to Akpabio.

The Brekete Family Radio/TV CEO was subsequently invited by the National Assembly to appear before the Senate.

“I am streetwise. I am not scared. But I am not going to the National Assembly today for security reasons. My people will represent me,” Isah said.

Alleged disorderly conduct: Senator Natasha referred to Ethics Committee

The Senate on Tuesday referred Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP-Kogi) to its Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions over alleged disorderly conduct during a recent plenary session.

The committee, chaired by Sen. Neda Imaseun (LP, Edo), was mandated to turn in its findings in two weeks.

The upper chamber’s resolution was sequel to a voice vote after the lawmakers had revisited the controversy surrounding the recent altercation between Akpoti-Uduaghan and the senate leadership over seat allocation.

Coming under Order 1(b) and 10, the senate’s Spokesperson, Sen. Yemi Adaramodu, condemned what he described as Akpoti-Uduaghan’s “extreme intransigence” during the senate session on Feb. 20.

“From that Thursday, the media was awash with this issue and I had to work on mending the perception of the 10th senate.

“The senate is not a platform for content creation but a place for lawmaking and oversight functions,” he said.

Adaramodu urged the senate leadership to enforce discipline, warning that ‘where there is sin, there must be penalty’.

“This chamber is not a place for theatrics or social media content creation. We are here to legislate, advocate for our constituents and provide oversight over MDAs, not to engage in media dramatisation,” he said.

Sen. Jimoh Ibrahim (APC-Ondo) also supported the motion, emphasising the importance of maintaining order and decorum in the senate.

Ibrahim urged all senators to respect the institution’s guiding rules, comparing the Standing Orders to the Bible and Quran for lawmakers.

Also, the Senate Leader, Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele, moved a motion for the disciplinary review, affirming the senate’s commitment to its rules and internal order.

According to him, there is no one who does not have an opinion on this issue, but we are unified by our rules.

“Under our watch, we will not allow this institution to be discredited beyond what we inherited. Our integrity is non-negotiable,” he said.

Bamidele dismissed claims that the dispute was rooted in gender bias or discrimination, citing examples of senior senators who had accepted seat changes without protest.

Contributing, the Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Abba Moro, described the incident as “an avoidable drama” and apologised on behalf of Akpoti-Uduaghan.

He urged the senate to focus on its legislative responsibilities, while allowing the ethics committee to handle the matter.

Responding, President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, directed the committee on ethics and privileges to review the entire incident and report back to the chamber in two weeks.

According to Akpabio, the senate rules allow members to sit anywhere, but that contributions must be made from their designated seats.

He said that lack of familiarity with the senate procedures might have contributed to the altercation.

“The first day she (Akpoti-Uduaghan) was sworn in, she stood up to contribute and I was worried if she had even read the rule book.

“There is nothing wrong with being vibrant but everything is wrong with disobeying procedures,” he said.

Citing Order 66(2) and Section 55 of Senate rules, he underscored the need for senators to conduct themselves with decorum, including prohibitions on chewing gum, drinking water or being disruptive during sittings.

“The rules empower the senate president to suspend a senator for infractions for, at least, 14 days. It’s not me who made the rules; it’s in the rule book,” Akpabio said.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that a Senior Legislative Aide to the Senate President, Mfon Patrick was also joined in the N100 billion sexual harassment suit filed against Senator Akpabio by Senator Natasha.

The controversy stems from a Facebook post allegedly made by Mfon Patrick, the third defendant, on his personal page.

The suit also demands a public apology and a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from further publishing defamatory statements against her.

Senator Natasha has recently engaged in a series of confrontations with Senate President Akpabio, highlighting tensions within the Nigerian Senate.

Natasha alleged that Akpabio has consistently undermined her role as a senator, including removing her from key committees and reassigning her Senate seat without notice.

She claims these actions culminated in the defamatory Facebook post, which she describes as a malicious attempt to tarnish her reputation.

The post, titled “Is Local Content Committee of the Senate Natasha’s Birthright?”, contained disparaging remarks about Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The post reportedly stated: “It is a bottled anger by the Kogi lawmaker, who knows nothing about legislative rules. She thinks being a lawmaker is all about ‘pancaking’ her face and wearing transparent outfits to the Chambers.”

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan claims that the post was made at the request of Senate President Akpabio and has harmed her reputation.

She alleges that the publication has subjected her to public ridicule, resulted in the loss of business opportunities, and damaged her reputation among colleagues and constituents.

In the suit, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan is seeking: “A declaration that the Facebook post is defamatory and has lowered her esteem in the eyes of the public and an order compelling the defendants to withdraw the publication and issue a public apology in a national daily newspaper.

“A perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from further publishing defamatory statements. N100 billion in general damages for the harm caused to her reputation and N300 million as the cost of legal action.”

The Claimant claims against the Defendants jointly and severally as follows:

“A declaration that the words caused to be published by the 1st and 2nd Defendants and published by the 3rd Defendant acting as the legislative aide to the 1st Defendant on his Facebook page with the heading – “IS LOCAL CONTENT COMMITTEE OF THE SENATE NATASHA BIRTHRIGHT”, where the 3rd Defendant at the prompting of the 1st and 2nd Defendants continued further thus: ‘It is a bottled anger by the Kogi Lawmaker, who knows nothing about legislative rules. She thinks being a lawmaker is all about pancaking her face and wearing transparent outfits to the Chambers’ is defamatory, provocative, disparaging, lowering in dignity the estimation of the Claimant in the eyes of her colleagues and right-thinking members of the public.

“A declaration that the words ‘it is a bottled anger by the Kogi Lawmaker, who knows nothing about legislative rules. She thinks being a lawmaker is all about pancaking her face and wearing transparent outfits to the Chambers’ used and written by the 3rd Defendant at the prompting of the 1st and 2nd Defendants is defamatory and intended to cause public opprobrium and disaffection towards the Claimant by members of the public.

“An order of this honourable court compelling the Defendants to withdraw the said defamatory words and publication made against the Claimant immediately and to apologize to the Claimant in writing and publish same in one national daily newspaper widely circulated within the jurisdiction of this Court.

“An order of perpetual injunction restraining the Defendants whether acting by themselves, or through their agents, privies, assigns or associates from further publishing or causing to be published the said defamatory words herein stated or any other similar publications about the Claimant on the social media platform or in any other manner, which is capable of defaming the Claimant.

Rep Waive clarifies siting CNG Project in Kogi State

New facts are emerging following the controversy over the attribution of NNPCL and the Presidential Gas Initiative’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) projects in Kogi State to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who allegedly claimed credit for influencing the project.

Social media has been flooded with posts, particularly from supporters of a former Deputy President of the Senate, criticizing Delta State’s three APC senators for failing to counter Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s alleged diversion of projects meant for Delta State to Kogi State. Some commentators see these as a calculated media attack by the former DSP’s team to undermine the APC senators.

However, Hon. Francis Ejiroghene Waive, Member of the House of Representatives for Ughelli North, South, and Udu federal constituency, clarified the facts surrounding the CNG projects. He denounced misinformation over the project and emphasized that the gas plant in Kogi is not a political manoeuvre of any senator but an economic decision facilitated by existing gas infrastructure.

According to him, gas projects fall under the Committee on Gas, not the Local Content Committee, as some falsely claim. He also refuted the notion that the present administration initiated the pipeline transporting gas from the Niger Delta to Niger Republic, reminding Nigerians that former President Muhammadu Buhari started the project. “Such large-scale infrastructure projects require long-term planning and are beyond the tenure of a single administration.”

Hon. Waive pointed out that Niger Delta lawmakers in the 9th Assembly never opposed the pipeline construction during Buhari’s tenure. “If this project were truly questionable, why did Niger Delta representatives remain silent then?” He asserted that controversy only arose when political actors sought to exploit it for their gain.

He reiterated that the decision to construct five CNG plants in Kogi is purely economic, as the pipeline already provides easy access for distribution to the northern region. However, he expressed concern that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan is attempting to claim undue credit for the project, misleading the public about her role. He warned that such narratives aim to manipulate public opinion against Niger Delta lawmakers.

Hon. Waive called for an end to the politicization of this vital infrastructure project and condemned smear campaigns against leaders working for Nigeria’s economic growth. “Those spreading these falsehoods should reconsider their actions, as misinformation ultimately harms the very people they claim to represent.”

A Delta APC chieftain, speaking anonymously, criticized the former DSP’s media team for attempting to tarnish the image of APC lawmakers over political differences. “After reading Hon. Waive’s well-articulated position, one wonders what the former DSP’s media team aims to achieve by spinning false narratives about the Kogi gas project despite knowing the truth; yet sponsored lies against the Delta state members of NASS to deceive the public and gain cheap political points. I think Delta APC and its leadership should move past this ugly past,” he added.

Recall that on October 18, 2024, NNPC Gas Marketing Limited (NGML) and A4E Energy signed an agreement to construct a 100 mmscf/d natural gas distribution facility in Ajaokuta, Kogi State. According to NNPCL’s official website, the gas facility (city-gate) will supply natural gas to various domestic LNG facilities, CNG compression sites, and other gas-dependent facilities in Ajaokuta.

These projects align with the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas and Presidential CNG initiatives to drive Nigeria’s industrialization and transportation sector. On January 31, 2025, NNPCL also commenced the construction of five mini Liquefied Natural Gas plants in Ajaokuta as part of its commitment to the country’s gas revolution.

According to The PUNCH, the initiative aims to expand domestic gas utilization, boost energy access, support industrialization, and create jobs. NNPCL Group Chief Executive Officer Mele Kyari emphasized that Ajaokuta was chosen for its strategic location, as the company’s pipeline network already reaches the area.

Farouk Ahmed, Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority highlighted Ajaokuta’s emergence as a hub for gas infrastructure projects, including CNG compression and refuelling stations, enabled by government policies such as the Decade of Gas, the Presidential CNG Initiative, and executive directives.

  • Sen Akpoti-Uduaghan kicks as NCoS denies holding minors in prison

Sen Akpoti-Uduaghan kicks as NCoS denies holding minors in prison

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has strongly condemned the long detention of minors involved in the recent #EndBadGovernance protests by the police authorities.

Lawmaker representing Kogi Central in a statement issued in Lokoja on Saturday by Arogbonlo Israel, her Chief Press Secretary, described the police action as “inhumane and unjust”.

A total of 76 minors were on Friday arraigned before Justice Obiora Egwuatu of Federal High Court, Abuja, where some of them reportedly fainted due to malnutrition before the judge, who ordered for their detention till January, 2025.

But Akpoti-Uduaghan condemned such order and called on the Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, to investigate the detention order granted by Justice Obiora Egwuatu

According to her, detaining minors in a medium correctional facility is wrong and violates their fundamental human rights.

“This is because children should be tried in a juvenile court, where their identities are protected and not displayed or published in Court.

“I hereby urge the Controller of Prisons, Haliru Nababa, to investigate the detention conditions of juveniles at the Kuje prisons over improper facilities.

“Kuje medium security custodian centre is not designed for detaining children. The juvenile correctional facilities should be used instead,” she said.

Akpoti-Uduaghan appealed to the Federal Government to “temper justice with mercy” and release the detained minors, whom she said were likely used by unscrupulous adults to commit crimes.

“It’s my my belief that the children should be in school and not in detention.”

#EndBadGovernance protest: Suspects not in custody of NCoS – Spokesman

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) has said that  suspects arrested during the #Endbadgovernance protest in August 2024 were not remanded in any of its adult custodial centres in Abuja.

The Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO) Abubakar Umar confirmed this in a statement on Saturday in Abuja. Umar said that there were misleading reports making the rounds in some sections of the media purporting that the suspects were remanded in one of the adult custodial centres in Abuja.

According to the NCoS spokesman, the said report has no iota of truth.

”The service operates under the best correctional and global practices. To set records straight, the NCoS Act 2019 has empowered the Controllers of Corrections as well as Superintendents-in-charge of Custodial Centres not to admit juveniles in facilities meant for adults.

“The Act also mandates the service to reject more intake of inmates where it is apparent that the custodial facility in question is filled to capacity.

“The service wishes to inform the public that the said suspects were rejected and none of them were remanded in adult custodial facilities as insinuated by the said report.

“The service  assures the public that NCoS will continue to emphasise professionalism as well as respect for human rights in line with the United Nations Minimum Standard Rules for the Treatment of Juvenile offenders.

“Furthermore, the general public is enjoined to disregard the said report because it is not the true position of things,” he said.
