“The All Progressives Congress (APC) wishes to categorically state that this is the work of mischief-makers, likely in collaboration with certain elements within the Kwankwassiyya movement, who are determined to create disaffection between Dr. Ganduje and His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje remains unwaveringly loyal to President Tinubu and is fully committed to supporting the President’s vision and leadership. Abdullahi Ganduje, former governor of Kano State has bragged about being the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, following the reversal of his purported suspension by his ward executives.

Recall that Justice A. M Liman of the Federal High Court in Kano stopped Ganduje’s suspension on Thursday.

It was gathered that the  court also barred all the respondents and their agents from implementing the decisions reached at the executive meeting of the APC held at the Ganduje Ward of Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area on April 15 2024, pending the determination and hearing of a suit filed by Ganduje for the enforcement of his fundamental rights.

The judge also asked the parties to maintain the status quo before the purported emergency meeting of the alleged executive members of the APC ward.

Justice Liman gave the order while ruling on a motion ex parte filed by Ganduje for the enforcement of his fundamental right to fair hearing.

In his reaction, Ganduje thanked  the party executive members and ward officials from Ganduje Ward for distancing themselves from the purported plot to remove him from the party’s leadership and membership.

While reacting to the development, Ganduje appreciated the party executive members and ward officials from Ganduje Ward for distancing themselves from the purported plot to remove him from the party’s leadership and membership.

He attributed the development to the plan of Governor Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, to weaken the APC in the state ahead of the 2027 general election and other electoral contests.

Ganduje said , “In fact, what is happening is that it is an incursion into our political party by the NNPP government of Kano in order to destroy our party.

“They are so concerned that in their first year in office, they have seen their failures right from the destruction of the economy of Kano State to increased political violence in and also destruction of political morality in Kano State.”

Thirty-Eight-year-old, Mr Sylvester Ezeokenwa emerged as the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) on Wednesday in Awka.

Ezeokenwa was elected at the party’s national convention to succeed Chief Victor Oye.

Delegates from the 36 states of the federation and the FCT attended the convention which saw 31 executive members emerge through affirmation.

Before dissolving the old Executive Committee of the party, the former national chairman gave account of his stewardship and said he left N300 million in the party’s bank account.

He said that he faced more than 200 court cases while in office as national chairman, but came out victorious in all.

Oye said he completed the party’s national secretariat in Abuja and a five-storey zonal office in Awka.

“This is despite the fact that I inherited less than N40 million from my predecessor,’’ he said.

In his remarks, Anambra’s Gov. Charles Soludo said it was his first national convention and thanked the party for a peaceful exercise and for sponsoring him in a successful governorship election.

He commended Oye for giving the party focused leadership for eight years.

He also commended Oye for effective management of the party’s resources saying that no political party had left that quantum of money in its purse with all the structures put in place.

“I am extremely thrilled that the past executives of APGA got stronger and Oye has written his name in gold. You served APGA and left it better than you met it,’’ he said.

Soludo also commended INEC for a successful conduct of the 2023 general elections and wondered why people were repudiating the outcomes.

He said the elections produced members of the National Assembly and states’ Houses of Assembly members and wondered why even those who benefitted from the elections were criticising the exercise.

The convention also nominated and ratified new members of Board of Trustees led by former governor of Anambra, Chief Willie Obiano.

Among members are Oye and former deputy governors – Emeka Sibeudu and Dame Virgy Etiaba; wife of eternal leader of the party Mrs Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, and Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe.

In his speech, the new national chairman said he was glad for the confidence reposed in him by the party.

“Today, I am the youngest national chairman of any political party in Nigeria and posterity stares at the new executives in the face as they lead all progressives in the country,’’ he said.

Ezeokenwa was sworn in alongside newly-elected national officers of APGA in the presence of Gov. Soludo.

  • Why I want to be APGA National Chairman – Obi-Okoye

Why I want to be APGA National Chairman – Obi-Okoye

Chief Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, one of the aspirants for the National Chairmanship of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) says his target is to ensure the party’s victory at the 2025 Anambra Governorship Poll.

Obi-Okoye, a former APGA National Publicity Secretary, said this at a news conference on Wednesday in Awka, to announce his interest, ahead of the party’s state congresses.

He said he had the passion, capacity, qualifications, innovation, and experience to recover all that was lost during the previous elections and take APGA to the next level.

“Our party APGA needs an experience and passionate politician to confront the issues in 2025 because there will be a big political battle.

“In 2025, APGA will be contesting with political parties such as Labour Party (LP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“When LP finishes from the Supreme Court, its next ambition will be to capture Anambra. I also believe APC will become stronger with Sen. Bola Tinubu, the President-elect.

“This informed my interest in the race because we must have a chairman who understands the battle front and has the capacity to plot and confront these issues,” he said.

Obi-Okoye said he understood and was ready to complement the positive vision of Gov. Chukwuma Soludo, who doubled as the National Leader of the party for progress.

He also promised to ensure the restoration of the party’s strengthen at the National and State Houses of Assembly as well as to make the party the largest in the country.

“At the National Assembly, our strength dropped from five to four while at the state House of Assembly, it dropped from 24 to 16, although we are the majority but it is not palatable to us.

“Under my watch, I will ensure that we recover all that we have lost, build strength and capacity as well as find alternative means of funding to make the party the largest in the country rather than the third, “he said.

Obi-Okoye recommended the formation of a truth and reconciliation committee to address the internal grievances plaguing the smooth running and unity of the party to finding lasting peace.

“What we have done wrong in the past was not to have set up this committee soon after the primaries and this has created a lot of cracks in the party.

“In politics, you have winners and losers, such committee would create hope for those who did not win at the primaries. Crisis start if you do not create hope for losers,” he said.

Court fires Labour Party national chairman, Secretary, others

A Federal Capital Territory High Court has issued an order restraining the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Mr Julius Abure; National Secretary, Farouk Ibrahim and two others from parading themselves as national officers of the party.

Others stopped from parading themselves as national officers are the National Organising Secretary, Mr Clement Ojukwu, and the Treasurer.

Justice Hamza Muazu issued the restraining order while ruling in ex-parte application argued by a James Onoja.

In an application, Onoja told the court how the restrained National officers allegedly forged several documents of the FCT High Court to carry out unlawful substitutions in the last general elections.

Among the documents were the receipts, seals, and affidavits of the court to carry out criminal activities.

The Senior Counsel also tendered several documents, confirming to the Judge that the Chief Registrar of the Court wrote the Labour Party to disown several documents used for the alleged criminal activities by Abure and three others.

Onoja adds that following their indictment by police investigation, the four people are to be arraigned in court, adding that warrants for their arrest have already been obtained.

In a brief ruling, Justice Muazu held that the application and the supporting affidavits are a good case for the request to be granted.

The judge subsequently ordered that the four people should immediately stop parading themselves as National Officers of Labour Party.
