APC lifts suspension on National Vice Chairman North-East

The All Progressives Congress (APC), has lifted the suspension placed on Mr. Salihu Mustapha, its National Vice Chairman, North-East.

Mr. Abdulkadir Abdullahi, the APC Rumde Ward Chairman in Adamawa stated this at news conference on Monday in Yola.

“We have lifted the early suspension slammed on Comrade Mustapha Salihu, North-East National Vice Chairman of the party.

“This is as the result of reconciliation in the overall interest of our great party, Ward officials of Rumde, Yola North Local Government area.

“The disunity among party loyalists is what caused the internal party squabble that led to a purported suspension of Mustapha,” he said.

He said that Mustapha was clearly the leader of the party who had ensured unity among stakeholders.

Abdullahi said the party was more united as a family in its quest to wrestle power from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Mr Garba Mohammed, the ward secretary of the party described Mustapha as great man that was standing strong for the party.

Mohammmed said that the suspension was done in error, which was regrettable.

Orbih, who was returned unopposed at the party’s zonal congress which held at the Dr Obi Wali International Conference Centre, Port Harcourt, however polled 960 votes out of the 964 votes cast.

In his acceptance speech after the inauguration of the new leadership of the party in the zone, he pledged to reposition the party and make it stronger in 2023.

He assured that the new executive would not betray the trust and faith reposed in them by the delegates.

Orbih commended the PDP governors in the zone for continually keeping faith with the party.

He added that South South was proud of PDP governors in the zone whom he said had done well and shown that “if it’s not PDP, it’s not PDP’’.

He, however, accused the Federal Government of allegedly neglecting the zone and not allowing it proper representation in key appointments at the Federal level.

  • APC National Vice Chairman sues party, publicity secretary, demands N500m damages

The crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) might be far from over following the legal action of the National Vice Chairman (North-West) Inuwa Abdulkadir against the party.
Aside the suing the party, Abdulkadir also gave the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu, a seven-day ultimatum to retract an alleged defamatory publication against his person, tender a public apology and pay N500m as monetary compensation or be prepared to face legal action.
These facts were gathered from two separate letters written by the embattled Abdulkabir in response to the party’s invitation for a probe over alleged anti-party activities.
In one of the letters entitled, ‘Re: Allegations of misconduct and disloyalty levelled against you from the North-West Zone of the party,’ written on July 9, 2019 and addressed to the APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Niyi Adebayo, who is also the chairman of the APC panel investigating anti-party activities, Abdulkadir said he had taken the party to court and it would be inappropriate for him to appear before the Adebayo-led panel.
In the letter, which was received by the party’s national secretariat on July 10, 2019, Abdulkadir said, “As you may recall, I did inform you that I was in Sokoto at the said time (of invitation) where I would be appearing before the state High Court on the same 4th July, 2019 in respect of an action between my humble self and our party, the All Progressives Congress, and others arising from some false and malicious allegations touching on my integrity which the petition before your committee is premised.”
He advised the Adebayo-led committee to stay action on its activities and await a final pronouncement on the matter as anything to the contrary would have legal consequences.
In the second letter, which was addressed to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, Abdulkadir threatened to institute a separate suit against the party’s spokesperson if remedial actions were not taken to address the defamation of his character within seven days.
In the letter written by Inuwa Abdul-Kadir and Co (solicitors, advocates and consultants), and addressed to the publicity secretary, the national vice-chairman (north), alleged that his reputation was brought to public ridicule by the APC spokesman in an interview published in print and online media.
The solicitors’ letter read in part, “My attention has been drawn by several persons to statements credited to you in the course of making a rejoinder to a personal letter written by the Deputy National Chairman (North), Senator Lawal Shuiabu, to the National Chairman of the APC (hereinafter referred to simply as the party), Adams Oshiomhole.
“In the said rejoinder, as published by various newspapers and other social media, you were credited with making the following statements concerning Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, former national chairman of the party and the entire members of the NWC of the party that served with him.
“The Adams Oshiomhole-led APC yesterday said the party lost some states to the Peoples Democratic Party due to indiscipline and inaction of the NWC under Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.
‘The APC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, in an interview with journalists, said the former NWC led by Chief John Odigie-Oyegun lacked the courage to confront the political despots who could not operate by the party’s rules.”
Abdulkadir said he was honoured to have served with Odigie-Oyegun in the NWC, noting that the statement and others like it disparaged their individual and collective reputations in the eyes of the right-thinking members of the society.
Abdulkadir said by virtue of the fact that he held a traditional title in the Sokoto Emirate Council and had, at various times, held public offices, which included minister for youths and sports of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, attorney-general and commissioner for justice in Sokoto State, Issa-Onilu’s statement was defamatory.
He gave the APC spokesperson seven days ultimatum to, among others, retract his statements or be prepared to meet him in court.

  • APC ‘expels’ National Vice Chairman

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State has announced the “expulsion” of the party’s national vice chairman, North West, Inuwa Abdulkadir, for alleged anti-party activities.

Trouble began for the embattled national vice chairman after a member of the party from his Magajin Gari Á’ward, Naibi Abubakar, wrote a complaint letter to the ward chairman of the party accusing him of “continuous absence from party activities and meetings.”

The complainant who identified himself as a bonafide member of the APC with registration number SOK/SON/04006510 said since his election as the national vice chairman of the party, Abdulkadir “did not convene any zonal meeting of the APC in order to assess the fortunes of the party following defections to PDP of many party chieftains and members from the zone.”

Recall that the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, left the APC for the Peoples Democratic Party alongside many party members in the state, including top government officials.

Abubakar, in his complaint letter, also said Mr Abdulkadir failed to attend or participate in any of the meetings held to discuss the mode of primary to be adopted by the state chapter of the APC during the just concluded primaries to elect candidates of the party.

He also said despite being an automatic delegate, the national vice chairman failed to participate in the direct primary conducted in the state to nominate President Muhammadu Buhari as the APC presidential candidate.

He said Abdulkadir was also absent when primaries were held for the governorship and other elective offices for the APC in Sokoto.

Inuwa Abdulkadir ridiculed the Sokoto state chapter of the APC by not sitting among other delegates from Sokoto State at the special convention of the APC where President Muhammadu Buhari was affirmed as the candidate of the APC for 2019 Presidential election,“ he said.

The petitioner also alleged that Abdulkadir had openly told a gathering of members of APC in Sokoto that the current deputy governor, Ahmad Aliyu, is not the leader of the party in the state.

He said the assertion was made despite Aliyu being a member of all the top organs of the party in the state and the North-west zone.

He said Abdulkadir also told party members that former governor and serving senator, Aliyu Wamakko, is not one of the leaders of the party in the state.

Abubakar also said since the defection of Governor Tambuwal to the PDP, Abdulkadir “has not made any public statement to renounce his allegiance to the governor.”

He said Abdulkadir had in fact “told APC members and supporters that Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal is the only political leader in Sokoto state.”

The petitioner said Abdulkadir is still maintaining his allegiance to Tambuwal and by extension the PDP, because he has failed to resign as the chairman Governing Council of Sokoto State University, a position given to him by Tambuwal.

I therefore call on the ward executive to consider my complaint and take appropriate action against Inuwa Abdulkadir,” Abubakar said.

TNG reports that the national secretariat is however yet to affirm the suspension.
