    NDA releases list of successful candidates for AFSB 2025

    The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has  announced the release of the authentic list of successful and reserve candidates for the Armed Forces Selection Board (AFSB) 2025.

    The academy’s Public Relations Officer, Maj Mohammed Maidawa, made the announcement in a statement issued on Tuesday in Kaduna.

    Maidawa said, “The public is advised to visit the NDA website at [https://nda.edu.ng/] as well as the Daily Trust and The Sun Newspapers of 19 August 2025 for the official list.

    “We thank you for your patience and understanding.”

    Troops arrest 3 suspected gunrunners in Kaduna

    The Troops of  37 Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Demonstration Battalion have arrested three suspected gunrunners in Kaduna on Thursday.

    Lt.-Col. Umar Shuaib, the acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division Nigerian Army stated in a statement issued on Friday in Kaduna.

    Shuaib said, “Acting on credible intelligence while on fighting patrol, the gallant troops of 37 NDA Demonstration Battalion intercepted and arrested 3 suspected gunrunners along Kauya – Old Afaka – Sabon Birni Road area in Igabi LGA of Kaduna State.”

    He identified the he suspects as; Yakubu Jilbril, Abubakar Yahaya, and Isiya Sani, driving in black Golf 4 car, with registration number Abuja YAB 385 K7.

    Shuaib said that they were also arrested with a large cache of arms and ammunition suspected to be meant for criminals in the bush.

    “Items found in their possession include; quantity 9 x AK 47 rifles, 389 x 7.62mm (special) live rounds, quantity 54 rounds of 5.56 x 45mm (NATO) ammunirion, 17 magazines, four GSM handsets, one magazine carrier, and one machete.

    “Others included some charms, one MTN wifi modem, suspected illicit substances, tyre cold patch materials as well as cash sum of N365,600 among others’” he added.

    Shuaib said the suspects were presently under custody for further interrogation and investigation.

    “The  Nigerian Army wishes to assure law abiding citizens that it will continue to deny terrorists and their sponsors freedom of action in order to enhance safety and security in Nigeria, “Shuaib said.

    Nigerian Defence Academy announces date for screening test

    The Nigerian Defence Academy(NDA), on Thursday, fixed the screening test of shortlisted applicants for June 14.

    The Academy Spokesman, Maj. Mohammad Maidawa made the announcement, in a statement, in Kaduna.

    Maidawa said, “The Nigerian Defence Academy hereby notifies all applicants to the 77 Regular Course that the shortlisted  for the screening test on 14 June, is based on the official UTME results sent by JAMB to the Nigerian Defence Academy.

    “Candidates are advised to check the portal to eliminate network issues as the reason for not being shortlisted.

    ”Afterwards, those who were not shortlisted for the screening test are advised to verify the current status of their results from the JAMB,“ Maidawa said.

    Range exercise: NDA warns residents to steer clear of training area

    The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has advised residents to steer clear of a Range Classification Exercise scheduled for Nigerian Army personnel serving at the Academy.

    This announcement was made in a statement issued by the Academy’s Public Relations Officer, Maj. Mohammed Maidawa, on Sunday in Kaduna.

    According to Maidawa, the exercise is scheduled to hold from May 5 to 8 at the NDA Open Range in the Afaka area.

    He stated that the primary objective of the exercise was to further enhance participants’ proficiency and efficiency in weapon handling.

    “To ensure public safety throughout the period, the NDA urges members of the community—especially herders and farmers in surrounding areas—to avoid entering the range area during the exercise.”

    He added that strict safety protocols would be enforced, and unauthorised persons would not be granted access to the firing range.

    “Media outlets and community leaders are kindly requested to disseminate this information widely to ensure all stakeholders are aware of the exercise and the necessary safety measures.

    “The NDA appreciates the cooperation and understanding of nearby communities during this essential training.

    “The Academy remains committed to fostering strong relationships with local residents and prioritizing the safety and security of everyone around our training areas,” Maidawa said.

    NDA to conduct firing exercise; residents advised not to panic

    The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) on Friday, urged residents of Afaka, Mando, and  Kauya in Kaduna State not to panic, when its  Inter Battalion Obstacles Crossing Competition for NDA cadets hold on Saturday.

    The announcement is contained in a statement by the Academy Public Relations Officer, Maj. Muhammad Maidawa in Kaduna.

    “This is to inform the general public, especially residents of Afaka, Mando, Kauya, and adjoining settlements, about an upcoming event of significant importance.

    “We are pleased to announce that the NDA will be conducting  an Inter Battalion Obstacles Crossing Competition for our cadets.”

    According to him, the exciting competition is a combat fitness activity, specifically designed to test and enhance the cadets’ abilities to navigate and maneuver through battlefield obstacles.

    “These obstacles will be simulated by various artificial stations on the obstacle course.”

    He said the exercise is scheduled for  Saturday, March. 22.

    “As part of the competition, there will be live firing exercises involving heavy guns and other light weapons.

    “We want to assure the public that these activities are a standard part of cadet training, and there is no cause for alarm.

    “Residents may hear gunshot sounds during the event; we kindly ask for your understanding and cooperation during this time.

    “We appreciate the continued support of the community and encourage everyone to stay safe and informed, “Maidawa said.

    NDA announces date new cadets of 76 RC will resume

    The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), has fixed Monday, Aug. 26 for the resumption of new cadets of 76 Regular Combatant Course (RC). The academy’s Public Relations Officer, Maj. Mohammed Maidawa,  made the announcement in a statement issued on Thursday in Kaduna.

    Maidawa said there should be strict adherence to the resumption date. He said, ”NDA wishes to inform the  public of an important update regarding the resumption date for the successful candidates admitted into the 76 Regular Combatant Course. In a previous notification, it was stated that the resumption dates for 76 RC were from  August  24 to 26. The Academy will like to state that the reviewed resumption day is Aug. 26 unfailingly. This is to allow the new cadets ample time to plan their journeys.”

    Maidawa, therefore said,  all the successful candidates are expected to report at the NDA Ribadu Campus (Old Site) between the hours of 0900 and 1800 on Monday, Aug  26. unfailingly.

    ”Failure to report on the stated date will result in the immediate substitution of the candidate with a reserve candidate,“ he said.

    Maidawa said that only candidates with genuine reasons, supported by evidence, for their inability to report on the published date would be considered for admission.

    ”All other candidates who fail to report on August 26 will forfeit their admission,” he said.

    Oronsaye Report: Zulum urges FG to reconsider merging Army University with NDA

    Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno has urged the Federal Government to reconsider merging Army University Biu in Borno with the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna.

    Zulum also urged the government to allow the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanization (NCAM) Ilorin to remain as it is instead of being a department in the Ministry of Agriculture.

    The governor made the call in an interview with newsmen on Thursday in Maiduguri.

    He said that the Army University Biu, which is a conventional university, should be allowed to remain so or be handed over to the Ministry of Education to continue in that capacity if the Army is not interested in having a university.

    According to him, the university has been playing a critical role in the education of students in the North East, particularly Borno, where education was seriously affected by over a decade of insurgency.

    “This university is very important to the people of Borno and northeast in general.

    “I am appealing to the President to look into this issue.

    “Secondly, I want to make a case for the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanization which has a very important role to play at this material time that FG is looking towards promoting food security.

    “NCAM is the only centre saddled with the responsibility of fabricating agricultural tools and implements in Nigeria,” Zulum said.

    He expressed the hope that a technical committee would be set up to review some of the measures taken.

    NDA lunches 60th anniversary emblem, crest

    The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), on Monday launched the 60th anniversary emblem, crest and presentation of long service award to its members of staff.

    Retired Maj.-Gen. Rabiu Aliyu, in his address urged the academy to improve its training curriculum to prepare cadets to surmount contemporary security challenges.

    Aliyu was the Special Guest of Honour and also one of the pioneer cadets of NDA.

    The academy was established on Feb. 5, 1964, and it is celebrating its diamond Jubilee.
    Aliyu said that the NDA had played pivotal roles in shaping Nigeria’s engagement at sub-regional, regional and global levels due to Nigeria’s commitment to peace and security.

    He said over the past 60 years, the academy had served as a centre of excellence in training and commissioning of the best officers for the Nigerian Armed Forces and other friendly countries.

    He, however, encouraged the NDA to continue with the good work of promoting professionalism, enhanced quality training and integrating sound leadership.

    Aliyu also advised cadets to be committed, dedicated and determined to tackling the volatile, uncertain and ambiguous security environment.

    Earlier, the Commandant of academy, Maj.-Gen. John Ochai, said over the years, it has continued to provide officer cadets with skills and values necessary to meet the requirements of a military officer through training and character.
    According to him, the academy remains steadfast in its commitment to excellence, innovation and development of leaders who will serve with distinction and merit.

    “The crest and emblem will serve as a constant reminder of the great strides the academy have made as stakeholder in Nigeria’s defence architecture.

    “Therefore, the diamond jubilee anniversary is an avenue to celebrate the achievements of the academy, honour its legacies and re-affirm its pivotal role in safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty,” Ochai said.

    He saluted the courage and foresight of the institution’s founding fathers and past leaders for nurturing the academy to its present level.

    The event witnessed the unveiling of NDA’s crest and emblem and presentation of long service award to some members of staff.

    We have lived peacefully for 60-years with NDA – Host communities

    The two host communities of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna, have expressed gratitude to God and the institution for living peacefully for 60 years.

    The two communities were Zango and Doka, all in Afaka, Igabi Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna state.

    The two communities, on Monday, in Kaduna, benefited from palliatives given to them by the NDA Officers Wives Association (NDAOWA), as part of activities in commemoration of the institution’s forthcoming 60 years anniversary.

    They expressed joy and noted that the NDA has been a wonderful neighbour to them.

    The palliatives distributed to the communities were bags of rice, beans, clothing materials, exercise books for school children and cash tokens, among others.

    Speaking to newsmen, the Ward Head of Zango village, Afaka, Igabi LGA, Malam Shuaibu Abubakar, said they have never encountered any issues or problems with the NDA, since its establishment 60 years ago.

    He added that the village had never experienced any form of insecurity, courtesy of the NDA.

    “Whenever we smell issues of insecurity, sometimes before we even call the NDA, they are already there to arrest situations before anybody even gets to know of anything.

    “In these 60 years of NDA existence, we have lived peacefully, they don’t harm us in any way and we don’t harm them either,”he said.

    Abubakar said the palliative from NDAOWA came to them as a surprise.

    He claimed that it would go a long way in cushioning the hardship faced by the beneficiaries who were carefully selected in the community.

    Abubakar assured the NDA of the community’s unalloyed support in possible ways and commitment to continue living peacefully.

    He thanked NDAOWA for the gesture, while asking for more in other ways such as admitting their children into the institution.

     

    Also, the Ward Head of Doka, Malam Buhari Ibrahim, said the community has also lived peacefully with the NDA.

    He said the palliative from NDAOWA would further cement the peaceful coexistence with the NDA, while thanking them for the gesture.

    Earlier, the Coordinator of NDAOWA, Mrs Ruth Ochai, said the essence of distributing the palliative was to appreciate the two communities for their support in different ways to the academy.

    Ochai, represented by Mrs Jessica Awolo said that part of the NDAOWA mandate was to give back to the communities who support them in their services.

    She restated the association’s commitment to continue supporting humanity for the betterment of the institution and the nation at large.

    Army gets first Professor as NDA promotes Lt. Col. Imam

    The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna has announced the promotion of Lt. Col. Abubakar-Surajo Imam to the rank of Professor of Mechatronics Engineering.

    Imam is said to be the first professor from among serving personnel in the history of the Nigerian Army.

    The Registrar of the Academy, Brig.-Gen. AM Tukur announced the promotion in a statement on Friday in Kaduna.

    He said that the promotion was ratified during the NDA Council Meeting in September, and took effect from Oct. 1, 2022.

    The registrar said that the council’s decision was a reflection of the confidence and recognition of the contributions of Imam to the Department of Mechatronics Engineering of the Academy.

    He said that the new professor has provided exemplary services and upheld the standard of excellence expected in his field.

    “This recognition not only honours Professor Imam but also highlights the commitment of the Nigerian Defence Academy to acknowledging and rewarding outstanding contributions within its academic community,” he added.

    Tukur further said, “On behalf of the Commandant and staff of the Academy, I sincerely congratulate you on your well-deserved promotion.

    “It is expected that you will continue to work hard to justify the confidence.”

    Imam, who hails from Kankia in Katsina State, has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bayero University, Kano.

    He also holds a Master Degree in Mechatronics from Newcastle University, United Kingdom, and PhD in Mechatronics and Robotics from the same University.

    Imam joined the Nigerian Army as a member of Short Service Combatant Course 32, and was assigned to the Nigerian Army Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.

    He later converted to Regular Commission, and served in numerous units including 1 Base Workshop, Technical Group EME, HQ Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Corps, and DICON.

    Prof. Imam is an Examiner and Member Central Selection Committee for Master and PhD candidates being sponsored by the Petroleum Technology Development Fund.

    He is also a researcher with the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), the Defence Research and Development Bureau, Abuja, Command Engineering Depot, Buffalo Engineering Technology, and National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure.

    Imam is also a researcher with the Air Force Institute of Technology, Kaduna, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology in Wudil, Kano State.

    The new professor has attended over 40 international workshops and numerous seminars and presented papers at several conferences in the United Kingdom, Spain, Egypt and the United States of America.

    He currently doubles as Head, Department of Mechatronics Engineering and Director Centre for Innovation and Creativity at the NDA.

    At the NDA, Lt. Col. Imam has through his Research and Development efforts enormously contributed to enhancing the visibility of the Academy among Nigerian Universities.

    He spearheaded the founding of the NDA Department of Mechatronic Engineering, and the establishment of the Centre for Innovation and Creativity.

    The centre’s serves as platform for the realisation of Nigeria’s Military Industrial Complex through promotion of innovation and creativity in cutting-edge technologies related to novel military and civil hardware and software solutions, thereby reducing Nigeria’s dependence on foreign technical solutions.

    His published books cover  Mechatronics; PIC Microcontrollers; Embedded Systems Design; Sensors and Actuators for Embedded Systems; Coding, Robotics and Drone Tachnology for Kids; and Field Manual for Drone Technology, among others.
