  • Coronavirus patient in Ekiti fully recovers, discharged

    The only coronavirus-hit patient in Ekiti State has tested negative and allowed to go home.

    The unidentified male patient has been discharged from hospital.

    The patient had served as a driver to an American who came on a visit to Nigeria and spent two weeks in Ibadan.

    The American later died on suspicion of succumbing to the virus.

    But while the care-giver tested negative, the driver tested positive.

    He was discharged Tuesday, a day after five persons also overcame the virus in Lagos.

    According to NCDC, Nigeria now has 135 confirmed cases of the virus.

    Nine persons have been discharged while two died..

  • BREAKING: Lagos discharges five Coronavirus patients after recovery

    Lagos State Government on Monday discharged five coronavirus patients at Infectious Disease Centre, Yaba Mainland Hospital, The Nation Newspaper is reporting.

    This brings to eight the total number of discharged patients from the centre.

    The patients, who had been quarantined at the isolation centre for weeks, looked stable and unruffled.

    Although the discharged patients preferred anonymity, they expressed joy and satisfaction over the treatment they received.

    While thanking the State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his support and proactiveness, they pleaded that the workers at the Centre should be given life insurance.

    While speaking to reporters, one of the patients said: “I came in here on the 15th and after the test showed positive, I was asked to come back the next day. So I was admitted here.

    “Initially, there were hitches but it later turned out fine. The health workers did fine, all our challenges were attended to. I’m a living witness together with my other colleagues.”

    He gave an impressive hope, saying people should not panic as the virus could be defeated.

    “We can beat it. I want to assure others that this is not their resting place. Encourage yourselves, take your medications and in no distant time, you will get out of here.

    “I want to appeal to the federal government and Lagos State government that, they should remunerate all those workers who have volunteered to work accordingly, so as to serve as an encouragement to others, adding that, “If they are not here as first responders, many would have died.”

    Another patient said “I was admitted last Sunday. Initially, there were challenges, the following day, they brought to bed, mask and some equipment.

    “Apart from what my colleague said, the workers should be insured. Proper insurance will let people do what they have to do.

    He narrated a scenario where the workers could not attend to him because he tested positive, saying “they went back and I slept of. I woke up around 3 a.m. So they deserve life insurance to encourage them to do their job.”

  • Coronavirus: APC announces Oshiomhole’s test results

    The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has tested negative for coronavirus.

    Oshiomhole presented himself for a test on Thursday.

    This followed fears he could have interacted with persons who tested positive to the virus.

    Two of Buhari’s ministers test negative for COVID-19

    Two Nigerian ministers have tested negative for the deadly Coronavirus pandemic.

    Zainab Ahmed Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning and Clement Agba, Minister of State, Budget and National Planning both tested negative for Coronavirus on Thursday.

    According to Ahmed, on her twitter account, “I am grateful for negative #Covid19 test results & appreciate your concerns & prayers.

    “I urge all of us to practice social distancing, wash our hands & use sanitizers as frequently as possible to help put an end to this global pandemic. Please support by following guidelines.”

  • Coronavirus: Sick American returnee in Ondo test negative

    An Ondo American returnee who was suspected of having coronavirus in the state has tested negative.

    The 70 years old returnee simply identified as David was rushed unconscious to the Ondo State University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital.

    Some symptoms he presented like coughing, pneumonia including the fact that he just returned from Maryland, made doctors took precautionary move by isolating him and collected his samples for testing.

    Commissioner for Health, Dr Wahab Adegbenro, on Saturday disclosed that the result of the suspected corona virus case has tested negative.

    Dr. Adegbenro who declared that the state is currently free of corona virus said the Corona virus screening came out negative on Friday evening .

    Adegbenro stated that there was no cause for panic in the state but all hands must be on deck to forestall outbreak of corona virus in the state.

    At a meeting with religious leaders in the state, Dr Adegbenro said preventative measures as the antidote to contain spread of the corona virus.

    Dr Adegbenro noted that social distancing was now compulsory and urged the religious leaders to discourage gathering of more than ten people, handshake, holding hands to pray as well as using the same cup for Holy Communion Cup.

    Some religious leaders who spoke include : Pst Umar Idris, Bishop Olufemi Bankole, Rev. Stephen Fagbemi, Rt.Rev. Akomolafe, Rev. Nelson Fadoju amongst others and they all pledged their support for the government while tasking the government to be up and doing to protect the citizenry.

    Governor Oluwarotini Akeredolu had on Thursday rolled out identified steps to help tackle spread of CONVID-19.

    The steps included equipping the state infectious disease hospital as a treatment center for the disease, upgrading the state disease surveillance network to be able to identify cases and ensure proper community surveillance as well as rolled out a sustained media campaign on the COVID-19 infection.

    Akeredolu said he has set up a high level inter-ministerial committee headed by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Wahab Adegbenro, to coordinate the state’s response to COVID-19 challenge.

    He said the committee was to activate, coordinate and drive the state response protocols and explore all means possible to curtail the threat of covid-19.

    According to him, “In furtherance of this, we have also directed the closure of all primary and secondary schools as well tertiary institutions in the state as from Friday 20th, March, 2020 until further notice.

    “This measure is to harvest our children into the safety net for proper monitoring and care.

    “One major advantage that our state has is the experience and expertise we have developed over the years from our fight against Lassa fever and other infections.

  • BREAKING: Italian who brought Coronavirus to Nigeria tests negative

    The Italian national who brought the deadly Coronavirus to Nigeria has now tested negative to the disease.

    Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi disclosed this on Thursday at a news conference to give update on the pandemic.

    He said the index case, who had been receiving treatment at the Infectious Disease Hospital had tested negative to the disease.

    Abayomi said it was good news for Lagos and Nigeria for the index case to test negative.

    He said he would not be allowed to go yet until a confirmatory test had been carried out within 48 hours, saying that if he tested negative the second time, he would be discharged.

    The Italian was tested positive for Coronavirus on Thursday 27, February, 2020.

    The patient, entered Nigeria on the 25th of February from Milan, Italy for a brief business visit.

    According to Abayomi, “He fell ill on the 26th February and was transferred to Lagos State Biosecurity Facilities for isolation and testing. COVID-19 infection was confirmed by the Virology Laboratory of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, part of the Laboratory Network of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control. The patient is clinically stable, with no serious symptoms, and is being managed at the Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba, Lagos.”

    The Italian had gone to LaFarge, where he had contacts with staff of the company. Forty people were later quarantined at LaFarge, out of which one tested positive for Coronavirus.
