said on Friday that the resumption dates for boarding and Day secondary schools remained 11th and 12th September 2022 respectively.

Director, Public Enlightenment of Ministry of Education, Aliyu Yusuf made the development made via a circular made available to newsmen in Kano on Friday.

“The attention of the Kano state ministry of Education has been drawn to a widely circulated rumor that the resumption dates for schools from the 3rd term vacation have been extended by one week

“This rumor was cooked up by some elements who always want to create confusion in the minds of the parents and guardians whenever a vacation or break time is approaching an end.

“Parents and guardians of pupils and students of public and private primary and post-primary schools in the state should therefore note that the resumption dates for boarding schools remain Sunday 11th September while that of the Day schools is 12th September 2022 respectively,” Yusuf said.

While thanking the parents and guardians for their support and cooperation, the ministry is urging them to ensure compliance with the resumption dates as penalty awaits defaulters.

  • Lagos orders public, private schools to resume for new session Monday

The Lagos State Government has said that all public and private schools in the state must resume for the first term of the 2019/2020 academic session on Monday.

It said that by so doing, they would be adhering to the Uniform School Calendar approved by the state government.

This is contained in a statement released on Friday by Mr Kayode Sutton of the the Public Affairs department in the state’s Ministry of Education and made available to newsmen in Lagos.

According to the statement, the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folashade Adefisayo, said that the adoption of a uniform academic calendar will enable proper planning and organisation by the Ministry.

She said that it would also afford the pupils and the students the opportunities to attend schools for the number of days required by them in each term.

Adefisayo also commended the concerted efforts of the teachers (teaching and non-teaching) toward preparing their pupils for the commencement of a new academic session.

She said that the state government would not relent in its commitment toward capacity building/training of the teaching staff, their welfare and reward for excellence.

The commissioner also advised the pupils and students to report to their schools on the date the government had stipulated in the uniform academic calendar.

She also advised all students in the state to devote more time to their studies on resumption of classes.

She advised them to shun all vices, including internet fraud, thuggery, hooliganism, rape, examination malpractice, alcoholism, drug abuse and cultism.

The commissioner urged parents and guardians of pupils and wards to remember that the administration of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, would focus on improving education in the state.

The commissioner added that the government would continue to do everything possible to improve on teaching and learning in all public schools.

The commissioner said that the state government would not be happy with any private schools that would violate the approved uniform resumption date for schools in the state.

She warned that any private schools found to have breached the rules would be sanctioned accordingly.

The students; Judah Agbaosi, Faruq Yusuf, Isoaka Ramon and Peter Jonah were in high spirits when a team of the Lagos State Ministry of Education led by the Permanent Secretary Mr. Adesina Odeyemi, visited the school on Tuesday.

Agbaosi, who spoke with journalists, said the students have put the ugly incident behind them and are happy to be back in school.

  • Queen Elizabeth to inaugurate new session of parliament June 21

UK Queen Elizabeth is to inaugurate the new session of parliament on June 21.

The leader of the House of Commons, Andrea Leadsom, made this known in a statement on Thursday.

Leadsom said: “the government has agreed with Buckingham Palace that the State Opening of Parliament will take place on June 21.”

Leadson, however did not give details of the opening ceremony.

Originally, the queen was scheduled to open the session on June 19, but Prime Minister Theresa May delayed it, to hold talks with the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) of Northern Ireland to seek their support to prop up her minority government.

With eight seats short of an overall majority, the co-operation from the 10 DUP members will ensure May has a majority to see through her programme of measures in the next session of parliament.

Political observers will now be awaiting details of the Queen’s speech which will outline the government programme for new bills.

Many of May’s proposals outlined in her recent election manifesto are expected to be scrapped, delayed or amended following the election which saw her lose her narrow majority in the House of Commons.

The deal between May and the DUP has yet to be formerly agreed, but media in London reported that the State Opening will go-ahead even if no deal has been signed between the two parties.

The Guardian newspaper in London speculated that Queen Elizabeth will not be happy, as the opening of parliament clashes with one of her favorite events, the famous Royal Ascot horse racing festival.

“The Queen won’t be happy. It is Royal Ascot from next Tuesday, and having the state opening of parliament on the Wednesday might interrupt her plans to attend that day,” said the Guardian.
