    24-year-old woman allegedly kills newborn baby in Bauchi

    The Police Command in Bauchi has arrested a 24-year-old woman, Furera Abubakar, over alleged murder of her four-day-old stepchild at Bantu village in Ningi Local Government Area of the state.

    This is contained in a statement by the Spokesman of the Command, SP Ahmed Wakil, on Tuesday in Bauchi.

    He said that operatives of the Command arrested the suspect over alledged culpable homicide.

    “The incident was reported to the Ningi Divisional Police headquarters on the 19th of August, 2023 which revealed that the four-day-old baby was born on the 15th of August, 2023 and was murdered by the suspect (Furera) on the 19th of August, 2023 before the naming ceremony.

    “Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is a co-wife to the nursing mother (deceased mother).

    “The suspect entered her co-wife’s room with liquid insecticide and applied it to the unhealed baby’s umbilical cord.

    “The liquid suspected to be corrosive substance led to the deterioration of the baby’s health and eventual death,” he said.

    He said the suspect would be charged to court on completion of investigation.

    Personnel in Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi state have launched an extensive search for an unknown woman who gave birth and abandoned the newborn in the bush.

    A woman identified as Fibi Hassan told pressmen that the lady in question abandoned her newborn baby after she gave birth on Thursday near a bush in Sarkin Kudu, area of Gogoro LGA.

    She said: “Our office received a report today that a newborn baby boy was abandoned in the bush in Sarkin Kudu. Before we got there, the newborn baby had been picked up by one of the women in the area who took care of the baby.

    “The baby is now doing well and in good condition. We have also informed the security and Investigations are ongoing” Mrs. Hassan reported.

    She stated that the social welfare office will continue to take care of the baby until investigation is completed.

    “We appreciate the good people of sarkin kudu and the women who took care of the baby and we appeal to the mother of the baby to come and claim her newborn baby”.

    Speaking on the incident, Mr Luka Danladi,  a resident of Sarkin Kudu said, “We woke up this morning with a sad news that a newborn baby boy had been abandoned near a bush here.

    “The mother of the baby left him crying on top of a rock with his face on the ground and we quickly told some of our women who rushed to rescue the new baby.

    “The mother left the newborn baby without cutting the placenta and also without clothes,  with the intention that the baby will die before day break. But thank God the baby was rescued from danger.

    Church chorister arrested for allegedly killing her newborn baby

    A Church chorister has been arrested for allegedly killing her newborn baby in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

     

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) gathered that she murdered the baby shortly after birth and was apprehended while attempting to bury the body in a bush on May 11.

     

    According to several Facebook users, this was not the lady’s first time committing the alleged crime.

     

    A Facebook user who shared photos of the lady and the baby’s body wrapped in a shawl wrote, “Can you just imagine, she give birth and kill the baby, happen today (11-05-2022) in trade center Kuru.”

     

    In a related development, a 22-year-old lady identified as Adisa Funmilola reportedly drowned her baby because she prevented her from going to the university to study law.

     

    According to a report by TheNewsGuru.com (TNG), she drowned the one-year and six months old baby inside a bucket of water in her apartment at Plot 22, Gowon Estate, Lagos, on Monday, and then reported herself to the Police.

     

    During interrogation, she blamed her action on frustration, saying her baby deprived her of actualising her dream of becoming a lawyer.

     

    She explained that she was impregnated by one Yusuf Folarin, while both were attending a JAMB class at City of Success in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

     

    However, Folarin denied it and request that the pregnancy be aborted.

     

    Funmilola said she was offered admission into the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, to study Law, but had to defer the admission because of the baby.

    Housewife bathes husband with boiling water after secretly burying newborn baby

    The police in Ogun State have confirmed the arrest of a 43-year-old housewife, identified as Bisola Awodele, who bathed her husband with boiling water after killing and secretly burying her newborn baby.

    The Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi made this known on Sunday, saying the mother of five is now in police custody at Sango Ota.

    Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested on March 8, adding that the hot water had caused the victim a grievous harm.

    Upon interrogation, Awodele confirmed her action, explaining that her husband is fond of getting home drunk everyday.

    She said she had cautioned him several times but he failed to change.

    “The suspect was arrested following a report by the husband, one Peter Phillips, who ran to Sango Ota Area Command with a first degree burns all over his body and reported that his wife, a mother of five, accused him of getting drunk always as a result of which she picked a pot containing already boiled water, and poured it on his body.

    “Upon the report, the Area Commander ACP Muhideen Obe quickly directed his JWC section to effect the arrest of the murderous woman. The team swiftly moved to the scene where the suspect was promptly apprehended.

    “On interrogation, the suspect explained to the police how her husband is fond of coming home drunk always without contributing anything to the welfare of her and the children.

    “She stated further that on that fateful day, the husband came home drunk as usual, and while she was complaining about the husband act of drunkenness, the man started insulting her and her parents which infuriated her, consequence of which she poured the hot water on his body”, Oyeyemi narrated.

    The police spokesperson said preliminary investigation also revealed that the suspect gave birth to a baby about eight months ago, but killed and secretly buried the baby out of frustration.

    The police investigating team had since followed her to the secret grave of the dead baby, where the corpse was exhumed, the police added.

    Oyeyemi said the husband had been taken to the General Hospital, Ota in Ado-Odo/Ota local government area of the state, where he is currently recuperating.

    Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
