It was a very slow start to the game, with the most notable moment from the first 18 minutes Ben Osbron being forced off with an injury.

City had endured a frustrating afternoon against the doggedly defensive Blades, which included Erling Haaland smashing a first-half penalty against the post. The Norwegian finally found the breakthrough goal with a header, only for a moment of madness from Kyle Walker with five minutes left to play to pave the way for the hosts to equalise through Jayden Bogle.

City were in serious danger of dropping their first points of the season but not for the first time, Rodri bailed them out with a stunning strike into the top corner in the 88th minute.

Elsewhere at Saint James’ park, 10 Man Liverpool came from behind to  defeat Newcastle 2-1 courtest of a brace from Uruguyan Darwin Nunez.

Anthony Gordon had lashed on to a mistake from Trent Arnold to put the home side ahead in the 25th minute.

Liverpool Captain, Virgil Van Dijk was redcarded for a foul on Almiron in the 28th minute and the Reds went on to Play with 10 men for the rest of the encounter.

EPL: Alvarez propels Manchester City to defeat Newcastle 1-0 at the Etihad

Manchester City striker, Julian Alvarez’s fine first-half strike handed the Citizens their first home win of the season against hard fighting Newcastle united.

The Argentine curled a shot into the top corner after 31 minutes of a tight Premier League encounter at the Etihad Stadium and it proved enough for the champions to claim all three points.

Newcastle came off the heel of a massive win against Aston Villa last weekend and had travelled in hope of claiming their first league win at City for almost 23 years. Yet the hosts, despite making just two changes following their draining European Super Cup venture in Athens in midweek, were too strong and successfully nullified Eddie Howe’s side.

Pep Guardiola’s men were far from their fluid best, but they produced a professional performance to follow up their opening win at Burnley.

Manchester City have now won two games and earned six maximum points in their first two Premier League matches of the season.

The Gunners captain gets a chance on the edge of the Newcastle box and strokes it through a defender’s legs into the far corner beyond Newcastle’s goalie for their first of the encounter.

In the 76th minute, the visitors come forward really well on the counter attack and Martinelli runs into the box on the left wing.

He whips a speculative ball into the box, and Schar sticks a foot out to knock it into his own net.

All efforts by newcastle to get a goal back in the encounter proved abortive as the the Gunners held on for a deserved 2-0  away win to continue to mount pressure on league leaders Manchester City.

Newcastle United saw off Manchester united 2-0 to revive their hopes of finishing among top four teams in the English Premier League and securing a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League football.

Few weeks back same side met at the Carabao cup final but the Red Devils emerged as the better side after 90 minutes.

However, in a twist of fate, Newcastle got back their pound of flesh by defeating their Carabao cup conqueror by 2-0 at  St James’ park.

Isak turned Varane smartly on the edge of the D and slipped an excellent through pass towards Guimaraes on the right side of the area. He stood up a deep cross towards Saint-Maximin, who headed it powerfully back across goal to give Willock a simple close-range header for Magpies first goal.

In the 88th minute, Trippier put in yet another brilliant ball, and Wilson got in front of Lindelof to flick an accomplished header past de Gea to put the game at 2-0 and beyond the reach of Manchester United.

The result meant Newcastle have now climbed to the 3rd position on the log and pushed Manchester United to fourth position.

Atsu’s body was pulled from under the rubble of his home in Hatay, southern Turkey, 12 days after the earthquake rocked the region, as confirmed by his agent Murat Uzunmehmet in a statement.

The 31-year-old had been missing since his building collapsed when the earthquake struck on February 6.

“Atsu’s lifeless body was found under the rubble. Currently, more items are still being taken out. His phone was also found,” Uzunmehmet told reporters.
