EPL: Newcastle trounce Tottenham 6-1 to go 3rd on the log

Newcastle United on Sunday bounced back from a 3-0 defeat in the hands of Aston Villa last week to maul Tottenham Hotspurs 6-1 in a thrilling English Premier League encounter.

Jacob Murphy and Alexander Isak, scored two goals apiece as Eddie Howe’s side rose to third in the Premier League, six points and two places ahead of Tottenham who still remain on same spot prior to the match.

The £60million Sweden international scored twice in an astonishing first-half blitz which saw Eddie Howe’s men race into a 5-0 lead with just 21 minutes played to take his tally for an injury-interrupted season to 10.

Newcastle humiliate Tottenham to close on top-four spot

Newcastle United humiliated Tottenham Hotspur with five goals in 21 stunning first-half minutes as they ran out easy winners in what was billed as a showdown for a top-four spot.

Jacob Murphy and Alexander Isak each scored twice and Joelinton added another as Newcastle scythed through a porous visiting defence that was already under the spotlight from last week’s defeat against Bournemouth.

Harry Kane pulled one back in the second half at St James’ Park but Callum Wilson added a sixth shortly after coming off the bench to complete the rout.

The embarrassing defeat is a significant blow to Spurs’ dwindling hopes of securing Champions League qualification while the Magpies are now in a commanding position to finish in the top four as they climb to third.

Roared on by an electric atmosphere, Newcastle started with pace and ferocity, taking just 62 seconds to open the scoring.

Joelinton drove inside from the edge of the box and his low shot was parried weakly by Hugo Lloris into the path of Murphy, who was there to smash in the loose ball.

Five minutes later, Brazilian midfielder Joelinton sprung a negligible Spurs offside trap and rounded Lloris to double the lead.

With the home fans still celebrating, Murphy rattled in the third with a curling shot from distance that Lloris did not make any attempt to reach.

Sweden striker Isak, averaging a goal every 113 minutes in the Premier League this season prior to the game, then scored twice to compound Spurs’ misery.

First, he met a sumptuous ball from Joe Willock to slot home calmly, then beat hapless Lloris from a tight angle.

Kane barged past Fabian Schar and finished neatly to pull one back minutes into the second half but Newcastle responded when Wilson, who had replaced Isak, immediately poked home another from substitute Miguel Almiron’s pass.

EPL: Wolves compound Chelsea’s woes, Newcastle beat Brentford to reclaim 3rd position

It was a bad day  for Frank Lampard on his second coming as interim manager as Chelsea football club again failed to secure three maximum points as they surrendered to the superior firepower of Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux.

Matheus Nunes screamer in the 31st minute made the difference in the thrilling encounter.

Chelsea huffed and puffed in the second half but failed to test Jose Sa in the Wolves’ goal.

The result left Chelsea 11th on the log as they have only managed to win just four games in almost 21 matches in the EPL.

Meanwhile,Brentford’s Ivan Toney converted the second penalty of the game to put his side ahead after missing the first one and seeing  his goal  chalked off for offside.

They were run away winners at halftime.

However, Newcastle rallied back  after the restart and turned the game with two goals in six minutes, courtesy of Alexander Isak and David Raya’s unfortunate own goal.

As a result of their fifth straight Premier League win, the Magpies went back third, level on points with Manchester United, though with a vastly-superior goal difference.

Brentford, meanwhile, have won just one of their last five league games, which will not help their outside chances of European qualification.

EPL: Arteta blames match officials for Arsenal’s 0-0 draw against Newcastle

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has accused match officials of being biased in the game versus Newcastle on Tuesdsay, saying they made scandalous penalty decisions.

Arteta explained that Arsenal should have been awarded two penalty kicks in the 0-0 draw against the Magpies on Tuesday night at the Emirate.

The first was a shirt tug from Dan Burn on Gabriel Magalhaes and the Murphy handball incident late in the game.

Arteta said: “We had so many situations and then we had two scandalous penalties.

“They are two penalties, it’s very simple. I’m talking about what I’ve seen, now, and it’s two scandalous penalties.”

Arsenal are now eight points clear of Manchester City, who are away to Chelsea on Thursday night.

Cristiano Ronaldo to join Newcastle in Al Nassr contract

Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo has a release clause in his Al Nassr deal allowing him to join Newcastle United.

Marca says Ronaldo’s Al Nassr contract has a clause in it that would allow him to join Eddie Howe’s Newcastle on loan if they qualify for the Champions League.

This is because of the Middle Eastern link – with the North East outfit owned by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund.

Newcastle became the richest club in the world following their £300m takeover in 2021.

And it means they are now able to afford a player with the star power of former Manchester United striker Ronaldo.

But along with the financial incentive, Newcastle may also be able to offer Champions League football given their superb form domestically so far this season.

Transfer: Barca offer Memphis Depay to Newcastle

Premier League side Newcastle United are considering a move for Barcelona star Memphis Depay.

The Dutch forward, who starred at the World Cup for his country, is likely to be available for a modest fee this winter.

Depay is out of contract in the summer, which means Barca are ready to do a cut-price deal in January.

Per Sport in Spain, Barca have approached Newcastle and offered them Depay.

A bid in the region of £13 million would be enough to get a deal done, per the source.

Newcastle are said to have serious interest in Depay, as Financial Fair Play regulations mean that lavish spending may not be possible for the club this winter.

  • Chelsea coach Potter gives excuse for Newcastle defeat

Chelsea coach Potter gives excuse for Newcastle defeat

Chelsea coach Graham Potter has given excuses for the Blues’ loss at Newcastle.

Chelsea lost 1-0 via a Joe Willock winner for Newcastle.

Potter said, “It was a tough game for us. Losing Ruben (Loftus-Cheek) and Aspi (Cesar Azpilicueta) at half-time. You can see in the two teams the different schedules. Newcastle have one game a week and we have a tough schedule. That showed. But there were also too many enforced errors. We got through a few times but we didn’t have enough quality.

“In a game of few chances, they got a winner. We changed things but we didn’t have enough. You could see in the first half they were pushing us back. We could not get out of the defensive third as much as we like. So we put on an extra man in the middle of the pitch. Conor had a good shot but then our defensive line was a bit off and we conceded a good finish.

“For different reasons, you have 13 matches in six weeks, a lot of those games away from home. It is what it is and it has been tough challenging. We have a break now and we need to re-energise. For us in terms of what we’ve had with an incredibly intense period, it is what it is. We need to take the positives. A lot of the boys will be away but we can get away, regroup and go again when we come back.”

  • EPL: How Newcastle condemned Chelsea to three straight defeats

EPL: How Newcastle condemned Chelsea to three straight defeats

Newcastle have now won five consecutive Premier League games for the first time since 2014, after defeating Chelsea football club 1-0 at Saint James’ park.

The victory meant  they are unbeaten in 10 games  for the first time since 2011.

Joe Willock’s stunning strike earned Newcastle a 1-0 victory over Chelsea thereby  condemning Graham Potter’s side to their third consecutive Premier League defeat, as the Blues boss blamed “unforced errors” for their latest downfall.

Neither goalkeeper was troubled unduly during a lacklustre first half, with Miguel Almiron volleying over at one end and Armando Broja forcing a routine save at the other as the opening 45 minutes ended predictably goalless

Newcastle, who went ahead two minutes later when Almiron embarked on a jinxing run before finding Willock, will enter the World Cup break as the top-flight’s third-placed team. Chelsea, however, are languishing in eighth.

Newcastle are presently occupying a Champions League spot and already fancying their chances of getting a continental  slot for next season’s campaign.

The English premier League will go on a break after sunday’s  matches and will resume one week after the World Cup 2022  in Qatar ends.
