Donny van de Beek rejects Newcastle loan move

Manchester United star Donny van de Beek does not want to go on loan to Newcastle United.

The Magpies reportedly made an attempt to secure the Dutchman this month.

However, The Telegraph is reporting that van de Beek turned down the move, as he is unsure about the current situation at Newcastle.

The Dutch midfielder may not be eager to place himself in a relegation dogfight.

Van de Beek may also be hoping he gets more chances to show interim coach Ralf Rangnick his worth at Man United during the second half of this season.

Newcastle make first signing since Saudi takeover

Newcastle United have signed England defender Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid for £12m plus add-ons.

The 31-year-old is Newcastle’s first signing since a Saudi Arabian-backed takeover was completed in October.

“I’m delighted to be joining this fantastic club,” said Trippier, who has agreed a deal until the end of the 2023-24 season.

Eddie Howe, appointed Newcastle manager in November, also signed Trippier in 2012 during his time as Burnley boss.

Trippier said: “I really enjoyed my time in Madrid, but when I became aware of interest from Newcastle United, and having worked with Eddie Howe before, I knew this was where I wanted to be.”

Trippier, who won the Spanish title with Atletico last season, had 18 months left on his contract.

Newcastle are second bottom of the Premier League, having won one league game this season.

“I’m aware there is a lot of work ahead of us but I know the demands of Premier League well and I know what an amazing club this is with very talented players,” said Trippier, who joined Atletico in 2019 after four years at Tottenham.

“I can’t wait to get started and I’m excited to step out at St James’ Park as a Newcastle player.”

Howe said he had “long admired” Trippier, adding: “When the opportunity arose to secure him, we didn’t hesitate.

“A lot of hard work has gone into planning for the January transfer window long before the month began, which is clear in how quickly we have been able to complete this move.”

Newcastle owners closer to completing Inter Milan takeover

Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund remain in talks with Suning about buying Inter Milan.

The International Business Times reports PIF – who already purchased Newcastle United – will buy Inter from Suning for $1 billion (€884.109m) over the next few days.

It’s suggested the deal is already done and the paperwork will arrive at the Inter headquarters over the next few days.

Suning have been seeking a buyer for Inter for much of the year due to the Chinese company’s debt problems.

The deal with PF would be worth €890m.

  • Newcastle seek to re-sign Georginio Wijnaldum

Premier League Newcastle United are seeking to re-sign Georginio Wijnaldum from Paris Saint-Germain.

The Holland international has battled for consistency in his first season in France, having arrived in the summer as free agent from Liverpool.

L’Equipe says Newcastle have Wijnaldum high on their shopping list for the January market.

PSG are aware of Newcastle’s interest, though are yet to field a firm approach.

Wijnaldum, meanwhile, may need to take some persuading as he’d be swapping a Ligue Une title push for a relegation battle should he return to Tyneside.

Transfer: Odion Ighalo makes decision on Newcastle move

Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo, has informed Newcastle United club that he would be keen on a return to the Premier League and would ‘seriously consider’ the move.

The former Watford striker is open to a move to the EPL and would have no issues transferring to the north-east.

Ighalo has been shortlisted as a potential option for the Magpies this January.

The Nigerian international was a shock signing from Manchester United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in January 2020 and impressed at Old Trafford enough to earn a second loan stint.

Ighalo is currently playing for Saudi side Al Shabab after his time at the Theatre of Dreams.

Al Shabab are aware of Newcastle’s interest and have spoken to Ighalo about the prospect of a return to the Premier League, Sky Sports reports .

Ighalo’s contract in Saudi Arabia expires in the next another 18 months and this could be the club’s last opportunity to raise significant cash for the 32-year-old.

He moved to the Middle East after his loan spell at Manchester United, from Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua, came to an end earlier this year.

He scored five goals in 23 games for the Red Devils.

And he would be open to a move to St. James’ Park.

Al Shabab have reportedly spoken to Ighalo about a potential move with Eddie Howe’s 19th-placed side in desperate need of new signings.

Rangnick reveals full Man Utd squad to face Newcastle

Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has a full squad training at the moment – except for Paul Pogba.

The Red Devils are looking forward to Monday’s clash with Newcastle United, having had their last two games postponed due to a coronavirus outbreak.

Rangnick had just 11 available players seven days ago, but he now has a full squad to pick from, except for Paul Pogba, who has been injured since November.

“Yes, as you know, we had last week, the last training session on Thursday, on that day we had eight outfield players and three goalkeepers and then we closed down the training ground for four days in order to break the chain,” Rangnick told reporters at his pre-match press conference.

“Today was the third day of training this week, we started on Tuesday, we trained yesterday and today.

“Today we had 25 outfield players. Paul Pogba is the only one missing, everyone else was on board. The development in the last week was extremely positive.”

EPL: Man City thrash hapless Newcastle at St James’ Park

Reigning champions Manchester City recorded their eighth successive Premier League victory as they swept aside struggling Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

The league leaders were gifted a fifth-minute opener as Newcastle defender Ciaran Clark failed to attack Joao Cancelo’s hooked cross and Ruben Dias had a simple task to head City ahead.

City doubled their lead in the 27th minute when Cancelo collected the ball 35 yards out, beat two Newcastle players and fired an unstoppable strike into the top corner from outside the penalty area.

Riyad Mahrez scored his 50th Premier League goal for the club in the 63rd minute, superbly volleying in Oleksandr Zinchenko’s cross for City’s third.

It got even worse for the hosts as Raheem Sterling tapped in from close range four minutes from time after a fine run down the left flank from Gabriel Jesus.

This victory ensures City will be top of the Premier League at Christmas for only the third time – and on both previous occasions in 2011-12 and 2017-18 they went on to be champions.

Newcastle remain 19th in the table, three points behind 17th-placed Watford and with only goal difference keeping them above bottom club Norwich City.

  • Salah frustrated as Klopp defends substitution against Newcastle

Salah frustrated as Klopp defends substitution against Newcastle

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp explained substituting Mohamed Salah during victory over Newcastle United.

Salah’s goal in the 25th minute completed a comeback for the hosts after Jonjo Shelvey had given the visitors a shock lead early on.

And that strike from the Egyptian, which made it 2-1, was the 15th successive Premier League match in which he has either scored or assisted in, equalling Jamie Vardy ‘s record.

But Salah was hauled off well before Trent-Alexander-Arnold ‘s late sealer when the game was from from over, with Klopp bringing on Roberto Firmino to see-out the match.

“Today was right to take him off a bit earlier,” the Liverpool boss told BT Sport, explaining his decision which left the 29-year-old visibly frustrated in the 74th minute.

“We play in three days again.”

On Salah’s latest landmark, Klopp said: “That’s quite amazing that. His assists are as important [as the goals].”

Tielemans hits brace as Leicester thrash Newcastle

Youri Tielemans scored twice as Leicester City bounced back from their Europa League exit to earn an emphatic Premier League victory over Newcastle United at the King Power Stadium.

Making his first Premier League start since 7 November following a calf injury, Tielemans converted a 38th-minute penalty after Jamaal Lascelles was adjudged to have brought down James Maddison.

A quality attacking move, initiated by Maddison’s sublime pass for Harvey Barnes using the outside of his boot, resulted in a simple finish for Patson Daka as the Foxes moved out of sight in the second half.

After Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel did brilliantly to sprint back and prevent a Timothy Castagne own-goal, Tielemans was set up by Maddison for his second before the England midfielder got the goal his impressive performance deserved with five minutes remaining.

Brendan Rodgers’ side – eliminated from the Europa League group stage with a 3-2 defeat by Napoli on Thursday – move up to eighth in the table after only a second victory in seven league games.

Newcastle, meanwhile, remain in the relegation places and three points from safety.
