Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has had a turbulent two years since his world record £71.6million switch from Athletic Bilbao.

Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri have been in and out of the team this year but it is the latter who will be moved on.

Police IG threatens Sahara Reporters with N10bn damages suit

The Inspector-General (I-G) of Police, Mohammed Adamu, on Thursday, threatened to sue Sahara Reporters and its publisher, Mr Omoyele Sowore, over a publication considered to be defamatory if a retraction was not published within seven days.
Adamu denied the said report in a letter signed by his Lawyer, Dr Alex Izinyon, SAN, which was sent to the U.S. address of Sahara Reporters and a copy made available to journalists in Abuja.
The online platform had, on Aug. 3, published a report in which the I-G was alleged to have involved in a multi-billion naira fraudulent scheme by illegally raising funds to build Police Training School in Nasarawa State.
The police boss, therefore, demanded from Sahara Reporters “a written and unequivocal retraction with an apology carried with the same prominence” on its platform and three national dailies.
He also threatened that “a formal criminal complaint to relevant agencies” could be filed “without further correspondence” if his demands were not acceded to within the seven days’ period.
The letter reads in part: “Our client hasten to inform you that these defamatory words in your said publications are farrago of lies, concoctions all calculated by you to bring our client to the lowest contempt as they are a product of you and your online publication to achieve your premeditated blackmail, dubious and diabolical ends.
“We would not waste our energy here but reserve it at the appropriate.”
He stated that the words used in the report “are untrue, fallacious,” noting that Sahara Reporters did seek the his response “to get a balanced and robust view to the runs of the mills.”
  • UAE opens up over non issuance of visa to Nigerian visitors

UAE opens up over non issuance of visa to Nigerian visitors

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Abuja has denied reports making the rounds that it is restricting the issuance of visa to Nigerian visitors.

The embassy debunked the reports in a statement released in Abuja and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

“In an affirmation of the growing bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, the UAE Embassy in Abuja denies the accuracy of the information
    contained in these reports.

“At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the UAE took a number of precautionary measures to combat the virus’ spread, including the temporary suspension on issuing UAE visas to all
nationalities as of March 17, 2020.

“After entering the recovery phase of the pandemic, the UAE eased some measures on July 7, permitting visitors from various countries to adhere to the necessary precautionary measures,
including by showing negative PCR test results within 92 hours of traveling to the UAE.

“This includes those visiting from Nigeria.

“However, travel between the UAE and Nigeria has remained limited due to the closure of the Nigerian airspace.

“And the UAE Embassy in Abuja continues to work closely with the Nigerian Government to obtain the necessary approvals to facilitate travel between the two countries.

“The UAE Embassy in Abuja calls upon the public to verify the authenticity of such reports and to seek information from the official sources,” the embassy said in the statement.

Chelsea ace Willian agrees 3-year Arsenal contract

Willian has agreed terms with Arsenal over a Bosman move.

ESPN says Chelsea star Willian has agreed a three-year contract worth £100,000 per week with Arsenal.

The 31-year-old was locked in talks over fresh terms to remain at Stamford Bridge, but has chosen to move on after Chelsea refused to offer him the long-term deal he had demanded. Two years were on the table but the player wanted three.

Frank Lampard was keen to retain Willian and extend his seven-year spell in West London, but Arsenal have stepped in to seal the deal on a free transfer.

The switch is expected to be officially announced by both parties later this month.

  • Man Utd move into Europa League last eight

Man Utd move into Europa League last eight

Former Europa League winners Manchester United booked a quarter-final spot in the tournament after their second-string side laboured to a 2-1 home win over LASK Linz on Wednesday to seal a 7-1 aggregate rout of the Austrian side.

United’s reward is a clash with FC Copenhagen in Cologne on Monday after the Danish side beat Istanbul Basaksehir 3-0 at home earlier on Wednesday to wipe out a 1-0 first-leg deficit.

United, who won Europe’s second-tier club competition in 2017, appeared to be going through the motions and fell behind to a spectacular Philipp Wiesinger goal in the 55th minute before Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial replied.

Having been virtually assured of progress after a 5-0 win at LASK in March, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fielded a below-strength side at Old Trafford and they looked completely at sea for an hour.

Defender Andres Andrade hit the crossbar for the visitors in the 10th minute and Husein Balic fired just wide from the ensuing scramble before striker Marko Raguz twice came close in a one-sided first half.

LASK took a deserved lead when United half cleared a corner and Wiesinger gave home goalkeeper Sergio Romero no chance with a screaming first-time shot from 25 metres into the top corner.

Falling behind finally spurred United into action and Lingard equalised after a defence-splitting pass by Juan Mata left him with time and space to steer his shot past goalkeeper Alexander Schlager.

Late substitute Martial completed United’s comeback on the night in the 88th minute when his close-range shot trickled over the line after squeezing through Schlager’s legs.

Romero spared United more blushes when he kept out a Raguz back-heel from two metres with a superb reflex save deep into stoppage time.

The last eight will be played as a mini-tournament in four German cities, with the final set for Aug. 21 in Cologne.

  • Coutinho to join Arsenal on loan

Coutinho to join Arsenal on loan

Barcelona playmaker, Philippe Coutinho, is set to join Arsenal on loan this summer.

According to Spanish newspaper, Sport, Arsenal’s loan pursuit of Coutinho is at an ‘advanced’ stage after Barcelona have so far failed to find a club that will sign the midfielder permanently.

Coutinho’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, has been working on securing a move to Arsenal for his client.

Joorabchian has a close relationship with members of the Arsenal hierarchy, including Raul Sanllehi, the head of football who is leading negotiations for a deal to sign Coutinho this summer transfer window.

Coutinho has drawn the interest of Arsenal in the past.

The 28-year-old joined Barcelona in January 2018 from Liverpool for £145 million deal.

Willian shown in Arsenal jersey in leaked clip

Arsenal’s video game partners may’ve let slip a deal with Chelsea’s Bosman prospect Willian is now complete.

Arsenal have partnered with Pro Evo and in a clip for PES 2021 it appears Willian’s move has been comfirmed.

The clip says “new signing” at the beginning and appears to show the 31-year-old Brazilian in Arsenal colours with “Willian” across the screen.

A PES 2021 watermark is visible in the bottom left corner.

Willian – who has been with the Blues for seven years – had been holding out for a three-year deal from former team-mate Frank Lampard.

He has reportedly been offered that by Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.

  • Man Utd prepared to walk away from Sancho deal

Man Utd prepared to walk away from Sancho deal

Manchester United are prepared to walk away from signing Jadon Sancho.

Borussia Dortmund want £100m for the England international but United are not willing to go anywhere near that fee.

There has been talk that Sancho has agreed personal terms with United, but those reports are believed to be wide of the mark as negotiations are still ongoing.

And now multiple outlets in the UK are reporting United will start looking at alternatives if Dortmund don’t come to the table.

It is believed United would be willing to offer £70m up front and then make up the rest with add-ons.

However, Dortmund are holding firm on their demands and are happy to keep Sancho for another season.

Negotiations have reached an impasse and United may now think it is time to look at cheaper alternatives.
