  • Big spending Chelsea threaten Man Utd Henderson plans

Chelsea are threatening Manchester United’s long-term plans for Dean Henderson.

The Sun says Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has cash backing to stage a serious bid for the young keeper, who wants to be top dog for club and country.

Henderson, 23, has been a stand-out on loan for the Premier League’s surprise outfit Sheffield United this season.

He is guaranteed a giant pay-day whether he chooses to stay at Old Trafford or ups sticks for Stamford Bridge.

However, Chelsea hope that the chance to offer Henderson game-time in the Champions League next term will swing the tug of war their way.

That experience would boost his chances of becoming England’s first-choice keeper at the delayed Euro 2020 finals at the end of next season.

Henderson knows he is likely to be loaned out again if he commits to a new United deal.

  • BREAKING: SSG, Commissioner test positive for COVID-19 in Delta

BREAKING: SSG, Commissioner test positive for COVID-19 in Delta

Two top government officials have tested positive for Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Delta State as the State intensifies efforts to combating the spread of the disease.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Mr Olisa Ifeajika, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa made this known on Sunday in Asaba, the State capital.

According to Ifeajika, both officials showed mild symptoms of the virus and consequently subjected themselves to the test.

He said that both men had been moved to an isolation centre and were stable, and responding well to treatment.

Ifeajika called on residents of the state to adhere strictly to the COVID-19 protocols as anyone, irrespective of status, could contract the virus.

“Let me advise all Deltans to, as a matter of top priority, always obey the COVID-19 protocols, which have been in public domain, so as to curb further spread of the pandemic.

“The fresh cases in our hands in Delta further testifies to the fact that COVID-19 is not a scam. It is real and people should take the issues of the virus and personal hygiene seriously.

“COVID-19 is not a death sentence; so, when you begin to feel unwell, reach out to approved government hospitals for appropriate tests to be carried out.

“We can save ourselves and others from this virus if we obey all the protocols of wearing face masks, regular washing of hands in running water, use of alcohol-based sanitisers and maintaining physical-distancing while congregating in any form.

“All our hospitals and isolation centres across the state are on 24 hours alert to receive any case(s) of the Coronavirus or other health challenges,” he stated.

According to Ifeajika, the officials are the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Chiedu Ebie and the Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu.

  • Jurgen Klopp slams England’s response to COVID-19

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has criticised England’s handling of the coronavirus crisis, revealing he feels like an alien for continuing to take it seriously.

During its peak, there were fears the Premier League season would be abandoned completely with Klopp himself conceding he became fully aware of that possibility.

But despite those sporting concerns, Klopp has stressed his real focus has remained on matters off the pitch as he noted the major difference in how England and Germany have dealt with the coronavirus.

“I was not worried for one second that the government could cost us the title because I was worried about the numbers who were dying – and I’m still worried,” Klopp said.

“I didn’t vote for this government. This government was the choice of other people. And the problem I had was that I got the news from England and the news from Germany. If aliens looked at us both from the outside, they would think we came from two different planets.

“From a personal point of view, I don’t understand why we started wearing face masks in closed areas on June 15 when five or six weeks ago all the other countries were doing it.

“You can argue about whether it makes sense to wear them, but all countries who started wearing face masks earlier have smaller casualty numbers than here in England. That’s the truth.

“When I see the numbers here in England and then in Germany, I think. Look, it’s not perfect in Germany, people have died and have been ill. But, in terms of living your life, it is completely different.

“If you want to enter a shop in Germany, but don’t wear a face mask, then you aren’t allowed in. With a face mask, you can go in all the shops you want. You can go to the hairdresser, wherever.

“They wear a face mask, you wear a face mask, and sometimes the people in the shop will have even more protection like a screen.

“When I go to the petrol station in England, I am the only one wearing a face mask and I’m the only one with gloves – I feel like an alien. I will not stop doing that until someone tells me it’s over.

“But inside the club, we are safe. We are tested twice a week and it is a safe environment.”

  • CAN suspends Adamawa scribe Elishama over N1.35m theft

The Secretary of Adamawa Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN), Mr Anthony Elishama, has been suspended for three months over alleged mismanagement of N1.35 million.

The association also directed the suspended scribe to refund the amount during his suspension.

Elishama was further asked to return all official properties, including vehicle and documents, to the secretariat.

Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza said that Elishama’s suspension followed the unanimous decision adopted during the state executive meeting of the association held on Thursday.

“Mr Anthony Elishama suspension is as a result of mismanaging of funds belonging to the Nigerian Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) to the tune of N1.350 million (one million three hundred and fifty thousand naira).

“The state executive of Christians Association of Nigeria expressed disappointment by the secretary’s action,” Mamza explained.

The Bishop noted that the present leadership of CAN in the state had zero tolerance to any type of financial indiscipline.

He said that the secretary’s suspension would take effect from June 20, 2020, pending the state executive committee final decision on the issue.

“The suspended Secretary must refund the money to CAN within the period of his suspension.

“He should also immediately summit all the Association’s documents and properties, including the official car at his possession, to CAN Secretariat administration,” the statement read.

  • You are no longer a human being (2) – Femi Aribisala

    By Femi Aribisala

Ladi Bada recently gave a revelation that transformed my outlook. He said if anybody abuses or criticises him, he takes it, believing God must have approved it. God either intends to use it to correct him, or to test him. For the Lord says: “(Do not) resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.” (Matthew 5:39).

This conclusion is eminently scriptural. It means, like Jesus, Ladi has resolved to learn obedience by the things he suffers. (Hebrews 5:8). God is the uncaused cause of everything. Solomon says: “The preparations of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord.” (Proverbs 16:1). That means God determines what all men say and when they say it.

When Shimei cursed David as he made a hurried exit from Jerusalem when his son, Absalom, revolted against him, Abishai sought David’s permission to chop off Shimei’s head. But David quickly admonished him: “What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? So let him curse, because the Lord has said to him, ‘Curse David.’ Who then shall say, ‘Why have you done so?’” (2 Samuel 16:10).

Yes, it was Shimei doing the cursing, but David knew the physical is controlled by the spiritual. He knew that God is the Alpha and the Omega (Revelation 1:8); the author of everything.

    Jesus, the Equalizer

Jesus, our redeemer, does not judge us according to human standards. He says: “Do not judge according to appearance.” (John 7:24). It does not matter to him whether we are rich or poor, educated or uneducated, good-looking or ugly, from a good or bad background, God is not a respecter of persons. (Acts 10:34).

This is even more important for those who have received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Paul says: “As many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:27-28).

Jesus sees all men and women as the same. In Him, all human advantages and disadvantages are nullified. All human sins are atoned for and covered.

Indeed, Jesus went to the cross and sent us His Holy Spirit to bring about a new man. So doing, He created a completely new specie of mankind: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ.” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

The new man of Christ: “was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.” (Ephesians 4:24). The law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus made the new man free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:1). Therefore, the new man is no longer a human being. The new man created in Christ Jesus is a divine being. He is a supernatural being.

    The spiritual man

The new man is exactly like Jesus right now in this world. (1 John 4:17). Although we are still flesh and blood, we are nevertheless at the same time seated spiritually with Christ in the heavenly places at the right hand of God. (Ephesians 2:6).

The advent of the Holy Spirit spells a complete change of identity. That which is born of the Spirit is no longer of the flesh. Jesus says: “That which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” (John 3:6). Paul further affirms this: “You are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you.” (Romans 8:9).

Therefore, Paul says: “From now on, we regard no one according to the flesh.” (2 Corinthians 5:16). Moreover, we would be wise to treat every man as we would Jesus Christ. (Colossians 3:23). Indeed, Paul goes further. He says: “Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” (Colossians 3:17).

If we judge according to the flesh, we would either look down on others, believing we have more things going for us than they do, or we would lose heart, seeing that others have more gifts, talents, advantages, or opportunities than we have.

When we regard people from the flesh or human viewpoint, we sometimes feel threatened by them. We recognise that someone is better-looking or more intelligent, or more successful than we are. We then feel intimidated instead of being confident that Jesus has made us accepted in the Beloved of God. (Ephesians 1:6). This leads to sins of resentment, bitterness, jealousy, insecurity, or paranoia.

On the other hand, if we are the one who is more advantaged in the flesh, we can become proud and arrogant. It can lead us to boast of our background or pedigree, of our wealth and possessions, or our skills and talents. But, as Paul points out, boasting is excluded from believers by the law of faith. (Romans 3:27).

When we judge according to the flesh, we tend to be judgmental of others. We criticize them unkindly, complain about them, and are even sometimes contemptuous of them. But James warns against this:

“Don’t criticize and speak evil about each other, dear brothers. If you do, you will be fighting against God’s law of loving one another, declaring it is wrong. But your job is not to decide whether this law is right or wrong, but to obey it. Only he who made the law can rightly judge among us. He alone decides to save us or destroy. So what right do you have to judge or criticize others?” (James 4:11-12).

    The great transgression

Who knows why people behave the way they do? Who knows why they think the way they think; say what they say or do what they do? Don’t presume to know. Otherwise, we can easily fall into the great transgression of presumptuous sin.

Accordingly, David pleaded with God: “Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults. Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, and I shall be innocent of great transgression.” (Psalm 19:12-13).

Jesus warns: “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.” (Matthew 7:1-2). Paul also warns: “Who are you to judge another’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand.” (Romans 14:4).

But when we don’t judge according to the flesh, our capacity to love our neighbour increases, our tolerance and understanding of others grow. Our flexibility, tolerance, and understanding for others develop. We can then live as the brand-new creatures that Jesus fashioned and not the sinful way we used to.

The love that God commends to us believes the best about others, and hopes the best for them. It: “bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” (1 Corinthians 13:7).

  • BREAKING: Delta records highest COVID-19 cases in single day

BREAKING: Delta records highest COVID-19 cases in single day

Delta State has recorded the highest number of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in a single day.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed 83 COVID-19 cases for the State on Saturday.

The development brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the State to 501.

The State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa had earlier said the level of infection was on the rise due to the lackadaisical attitude of people who erroneously believe that the pandemic was a fluke.

The Governor lamented that COVID-19 treatment centres in the State were already full of patients, emphasising that caution was needed to manage the alarming rate of infection and transmission.

While speaking on Friday with Government House Correspondents on the level of infection of the dreaded disease in the State and other parts of the country, Okowa urged Deltans and other residents of the State to always observe all precautionary measures against COVID-19 in order to checkmate community transmission.

He further stressed that the rising cases were due to community transmission and failure of people to observe prescribed protocols such as wearing of face mask in public places, social and physical distancing and other measures to keep the virus in check.

He advocated the need for everybody to be at alert as the level of immunity of people differs, pointing out that those with symptoms of the disease should go to the hospital for treatment before they become a big risk to their family members, friends and colleagues.

While saying that his administration would do everything possible to manage the situation, Governor Okowa appealed to residents of the state to avoid large congregation of people so as to mitigate the spread of the disease.

“I want to plead with all Deltans that it is time for us to realise that there is community transmission of the disease which can affect anybody if adequate care was not taken,” Okowa said.

The governor expressed worry that some states in the country would surpass the figures recorded in Lagos State due to the failure of most Nigerians to comply with all the laid down rules.

Governor Okowa opined that the dreaded COVID-19 could only be eliminated with behavioural change of the entire citizens of the country.

TNG reports that NCDC confirmed 661 cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria on Saturday.

    Lagos recorded 230, Rivers-127, FCT-60, Oyo-51, Edo-31, Bayelsa-27, Kaduna-25, Plateau-13, Ondo-6, Nasarawa-3, Ekiti-2, Kano-2, and Borno-1.

There are now 19,808 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country; 6,718 discharged with 506 deaths.

  • New COVID-19 exposure tool appears on smartphones without users notice

New COVID-19 exposure tool appears on smartphones without users notice

A new Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) exposure notifications tool has appeared on smartphones without users having to personally install it.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the new COVID-19 exposure notifications tool showed up on the settings of both iOS and Android smartphones as part of an update of the operating systems.

The update released by Google and Apple on Friday caused some confusion, with people querying the new addition to their handsets on social media.

On iPhones, the new COVID-19 exposure notifications tool is located in settings, via the privacy menu and then the health section.

On Android phones, the new tool is located in the Google section of the Settings menu of your smartphone, where you will find ‘Services & preferences’.

How the new COVID-19 exposure notifications tool works

To help understand whether you have been exposed to someone who reports having COVID-19, you can turn on Exposure Notifications, but if you change your mind, you can turn it off as well.

To use the tool, you would be required to download a public health authority’s app. If you have COVID-19, you share that info with the app to help alert the people you have been in contact with.

If you have been exposed to someone who has shared they have COVID-19, the app will notify you and give you further instructions.

After downloading the public health authority’s app, turn on your phone’s Bluetooth, and also turn on your phone’s Location setting. The tool uses this to scan for Bluetooth signals. It does not collect or track your location.

When you turn on Exposure Notifications within an app from the public health authority, your phone shares random IDs with other nearby phones that also have turned on the Exposure Notifications tool.

Throughout the day, your phone and the phones around you exchange random IDs. When your phone detects a random ID from another device, it records and stores the ID.

If someone reports having COVID-19 and their ID is stored on your phone, the app will notify you of next steps to take.

If the app learns that you have come in contact with someone who reports themselves as having COVID-19, the system shares with the app the day the contact happened, how long the contact lasted, and the Bluetooth signal strength of that contact.

If you have COVID-19, in the public health app, you may report yourself as having COVID-19. The app may ask you to share your random IDs. This helps the public health authority to notify others.

The app may then check if your random IDs are stored on other people’s devices. It may alert others who came in contact with you. Those other people won’t know your identity. You decide if and when to share your data.

All of the Exposure Notification matching happens on your device, which means only you and your app know if you report having COVID-19 or been exposed to someone who has reported having COVID-19.

Your identity is never shared with other users, Apple, or Google.

When you download a public health authority app, you can opt in to use Exposure Notifications.

If you have COVID-19, you can choose to share your random IDs with the app. To help prevent tracking, your phone’s random ID changes every 10-20 minutes. Your phone only stores random IDs from the last 14 days.

The public health authority app is not allowed to use your phone’s location or track your location in the background. Only official public health authority apps can use the system.

You can turn off Exposure Notifications in your Android phone’s Settings, or uninstall the public health app.

Important: By turning off this feature, you won’t be notified if you’ve been exposed to COVID-19.

You can delete the random IDs stored on your device before they are automatically deleted after 14 days. You can’t delete your random IDs that are stored on other people’s devices or that you shared with an app.

Important: By deleting this data, you won’t be notified if you have been exposed to COVID-19.
