  • Mane to miss Liverpool’s games against West Ham, Southampton over injury

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane is set to miss Liverpool’s next two Premier League games against West Ham United and Southampton, Jürgen Klopp has confirmed.

Mane sustained a muscle issue during Liverpool’s win at Wolverhampton Wanderers last Thursday night.

Klopp revealed the issue is not a serious one; however, it will rule him out of the clash at the London Stadium on Wednesday night and possibly Saturday’s Anfield meeting with Southampton.

“Sadio will not be involved for West Ham and probably not for Southampton,” Klopp said on Tuesday. “After that he should be then fine.

“The week we have then after that is for him perfect to get back on track.

“He has a small muscle tear, which is serious enough to keep him out. We were lucky with the injury as well, so it was not that serious.

“But of course, when you have three games in a week then that means he is out for these three games.”

Liverpool will stretch their lead over second-placed Manchester City to 19 points if they beat West Ham.

  • Iheanacho scores again as Villa beat Leicester, qualify for League Cup final

Kelechi Iheanacho was on target again but this time it was not enough as a late goal from Egypt’s Trezeguet saw Aston Villa beat Leicester City 2-1 in the second-leg semi-final of the Carabao Cup at Villa Park on Tuesday night.

Villa progressed into the final 3-2 on aggregate after holding Leicester to a 1-1 draw in the first-leg at the King Power.

Iheanacho scored in the 72nd minute to make it 1-1 after stabbing home Harvey Barnes’ low cross from the left.

But in the 93rd minute, Trezeguet scored the winner as he slotted home a long cross from Ahmed El Mohamady.

He was also on target in the first-leg, canceling out Federic Guilbert’s opener for Villa.

On Saturday he scored the only goal in Leicester’s 1-0 win against Brentford in the Emirates FA Cup fourth-round.

It was Iheanacho’s eight goal in 13 appearances in all competitions for Leicester this season.

Also in action for Leicester was Iheanacho’s Super Eagles teammate Wilfred Ndidi.

Villa had opened the scoring against the run of play through Matt Targett whose left-foot strike, from Jack Grealish assist flew past Jasper Schmeichel.

The last time Villa played in the League Cup final was in 1996 when they beat Leeds 3-0.

  • Lassa Fever: 41 people killed, 258 cases confirmed since 2020 – FG

At least 41 people have died of Lassa fever in parts of the country since the beginning of 2020, the Federal Government has confirmed.

The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, disclosed this on Tuesday during a press briefing at the ministry’s secretariat in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Giving an update on the raging outbreak of the disease, he revealed that at least two health professionals were among the 41 deaths recorded.

Ehanire added that there were at least 258 confirmed cases recorded across 19 states in the country.

He urged Nigerians in various parts of the country to practice good hygiene and protect their foods from rat contamination.

The minister also spoke about the outbreak of coronavirus reported in China, Germany, the United States, as well as two African countries.

He noted that the Federal Ministry of Health had issued a health advisory in the outbreak of the disease, saying that the risk of importation was high even though no single suspected case has been reported in Nigeria.

Ehanire was, however, worried about the presence of suspected cases in the Ivory Coast and Kenya, considering that coronavirus was being transmitted by humans who infected with the disease.

As part of efforts against the spread of the disease, he said the Federal Government has raised surveillance at all entry points into the country.

The minister was specific about the preventive measures being taken at the five international airports in Nigeria – in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as well as Lagos, Enugu, Rivers, and Kano States.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an investigation into the activities of the billionaire business mogul, Kessington Adebutu, popularly known as Baba Ijebu, for alleged tax fraud and economic sabotage.

Reports according to Premium Times has it that detectives from the Commission’s office in Lagos on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 arrested the son of the gambling mogul, Segun Adebutu for questioning.

The EFCC officials, according to the online platform, said Adebutu’s business activities became a subject of their suspicion following a petition from another betting company, Western Lotto, operated by a former Senator from Ogun East Senatorial District, Buruji Kashamu.

The online platform quoted EFCC sources as saying that they have identified N5 billion revenue that should have been remitted to the federal government but was allegedly kept aside by the company.

The probe might be expanded to include other betting companies and investigate claims of sharp practices and how some firms allegedly withhold funds from winning customers.

The EFCC has not filed any charges against Premier Lotto.
