    Tinubu@72: I didn’t place advertisements in newspapers – Tompolo

Mr Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo has denied placing advertisements in the Newspapers to celebrate President Bola Tinubu`s birthday.

This is contained in a statement by his Media Consultant, Dr Paul Bebenimibo on Friday in Warri.

Tompolo, who is the Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), said that he did not instruct anyone to place advertisements in the newspapers.

He said this was based on Mr President`s instruction that no one should organise a birthday party or place advertisement to celebrate him in the media in view of the state of the Nation.

“My attention has been drawn to adverts placed in front and inside pages of some Nigerian Newspapers celebrating President Tinubu at 72 today.

“To put the records straight, I did not place any advert to celebrate Mr President in the media neither did I instruct anyone to do so on my behalf.

“This is because of Mr President’s instruction that no one should organise birthday party or place advert to celebrate him in the media, as result of the state of the Nation.

“He said such money should be given as alms to the less privileged in the society. I bought the idea wholeheartedly, hence heed the warning and instruction,”he said.

He expressed confidence in Tinubu`s capability in repositioning the country for steady economic growth and prosperity.

Tompolo said that he also keyed into the policy thrust of the president to work in synergy with security agencies to eradicate illegal crude oil theft in the Niger Delta.

He said that those behind the advertisement may have done so in good faith.

“They may not be aware of the consequences of their action. It is our position that it is a grave error and insensitivity to the current state of things in Nigeria,” he said.

He , however, expressed deep regret for this action and also apologise to Mr President for any embarrassment this action must have cost him.

“I apologise to Mr President on behalf of those who placed the adverts, it is highly regretted,” he said.

72hrs ultimatum: Air Peace, Kano’s monarch feud deepens

Cousin of the Emir of Kano, Isa Bayero, has given Air Peace airline a 72-hour ultimatum to offer an apology, in a national daily, for allegedly ‘disrespecting’ the monarch and causing a delay to his flight.

Bayero, who is the chief protocol officer for the Emir of Kano,
Aminu Ado Bayero, had written a letter of complaint to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), seeking punitive actions against Air Peace Airline for what he tagged “disrespect to the emir and the people of Kano State.

But Air Peace reacted, saying that it did not disrespect the Emir of Kano as alleged in the petition.

The airline’s Chief Operating Officer, Toyin Olajide, argued that Air Peace holds the Emir of Kano in the highest regards and contrary to the insinuation that the emir was disrespected, the airline indeed protected the image of the traditional ruler “by not succumbing to what Isa Bayero wanted us to do.”

In a latest development, Bayero said: “I am giving an ultimatum of 72 hours for Air Peace to tender an apology to the emir, first in a national daily and secondly to come down in person to the emir. We would not hesitate to go extra miles to correct the ‘misnormal’.

“The action of Air Peace is sentimental and unprofessional and we can go any length to defend and protect any act of insensitivity against our prestigious traditional institution.

“That insult is not heaped on the emir alone but on the good people of Kano and folding our hands on this could trigger something worse and more ridiculous.

“I wrote to the DG NCAA, to complain but if someone claimed my statement is inciting, well, they are entitled to their opinion. But come to think of it, inciting who? Kano people not to fly Air Peace anymore because the airline insulted their emir and refused to apologise? That I have no regret if anybody claimed or interprets my complaint that way.

“After all, Air Peace has been in business before coming to Kano and Kano people have been flying across the world without Air Peace. So if that is what he wanted, so be it, we will get there.

“I am a professional pilot. I have flown five heads of state besides being a prince of Kano, and I am a personal friend to the Chairman of Air Peace, Mr Onyema.”

Global internet outage hits UK Government Website, CNN, New York Times, BBC, others

Major Websites around the world were briefly taken offline on Tuesday, apparently due to an outage at a U.S.-based cloud computing provider.

Leading media organisation such as the New York Times, the Financial Times, Bloomberg, the Guardian, BBC, CNN and Le Monde were affected, with users often receiving “Error 503 Service Unavailable’’ messages.

The British government’s main gov.uk website was also knocked offline, as were popular destinations such as Reddit and Etsy.

The outage appeared to be due to a glitch at San Francisco cloud computing company Fastly, which acknowledged around 1000 GMT that it was investigating an issue related to its operations.

Many of the websites were slowly coming back online by 1100 GMT.

In another service update, Fastly said a “a fix is being implemented,’’ but offered no other details.

I get energised when people insult me – Oyedepo

Presiding Bishop, Living Faith Church Worldwide, David Oyedepo has said he always gets energised when people insult him.

Oyedepo, in one of his sermons on Saturday said “What people don’t know is that when you insult me, it energizes me and the thing is hitting you.

“I told them at the ministers conference that the reason I don’t react, I don’t want people to lose their job. When they put me on the front of papers my sons will buy, my enemies will buy so if they don’t sell, or they sack them won’t I be praying for them for miracle job?”

“I have enough on my list for miracle job. Don’t add to it. When they do it I just do as if I don’t know. They just carry on. When they’re not selling more, they write again, they sell more. Amen,” he added.

Oyedepo said there is a grace that made Christians live above discouragement, saying that “one of the vendors was selling and I was coming to Canaanland, there was a hold-up at Abule Egba; he said “buy”. “We don’t buy paper”. He now brought one that has me only as the major picture at the back of the magazine.

“He said “what of this? I said “we don’t buy paper”. That was in 1999. I’ve not found out what they wrote there. I don’t have that time sir. Since 1999 I’ve not asked any mortal man what they wrote about me. You’re writing about me, I know me more than you.

“They brought a paper to my house, the editor says he lives in Gowon Estate and so he gave me an advanced copy. I said “I don’t read paper”. He said “it’s free”. I said “I don’t read paper, go to our office you’ll meet one man there”, he is the one who reads our papers.

“Now, I’ve not found out what was in that paper. That was 1996. There is no method you can use to sell yesterday’s paper today.”

The flourishing and vibrant Nigeria media space has welcomed a new platform, 365Daily, an online newspaper.

Operating as 365daily.com.ng, the new publication will hit the cyber sphere on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 with its unique motto: news uncensored!

A statement by the Publisher and Editor-in -Chief, Hon. Victor Afam Ogene, said the newspaper is seeking to be the most influential, informative and reliable online newspaper, by preserving, serving and seeking for the unity, peace and development of Nigeria.

Ogene, a former editor of The Source, a national newsmagazine and former member of the House of Representatives, said:” 365Daily is coming at a very tenuous time when our country is not only deeply fragmented, polarised and tethering on the precipice, but also gravely challenged by leadership deficit.

“Given the role of news management in redirecting societies towards order and progress, 365Daily’s grand entry is, therefore, intended to help chart a new course for Nigeria, by sticking to the grand principles of Truth, Fairness and Equity in our handling of news and analysis.”

Ogene stated that against the background of multiplicity of online publications, the distinguishing feature of 365Daily is it’s decision not to jump on the bandwagon of those who jostle to break falsehoods. “We’d rather tarry on the side of caution, than rush to dish out untruth or unsubstantiated news,” he said.

Other founding members include Honourables Chizor Obidigwe and Debo Ologunagba, former members, House of Representatives, Justus Nwakanma, former Editor, Daily Champion and Edward Dibiana, a renowned development journalist and former Editor, Servant Leader News, a publication of the presidency during the late Umaru Yar’Adua years.
