  • I cried for two days after sustaining injury – Neymar

Brazil striker Neymar says he cried for two days after breaking a metatarsal bone in his right foot in late January.

The Paris St-Germain star is out until April, having sustained the problem in a French Cup game against Strasbourg.

It is the same injury he suffered in February last year which put his World Cup in doubt, but this new blow “is more complicated”, Neymar said.

“This time I had a tough time getting over it,” the 27-year-old told Brazilian TV channel Globo.

“I spent two days at home crying.

“The first time I hurt myself I said, ‘I’ll have an operation, it has to be fixed as quickly as possible’. I wasn’t sad.”

Last year, Neymar was out for three months after surgery, returning just in time to play in the World Cup where he scored twice in Brazil’s run to the quarter-finals.

This time, PSG’s medical staff has decided on conservative treatment of the fracture rather than another operation.

PSG said that Neymar will be out for around 10 weeks, meaning he will miss their Champions League last-16 tie against Manchester United, which the French side lead 2-0 after last week’s first leg at Old Trafford. The second leg is in Paris on 6 March.

  • UCL: Very difficult for Neymar to face Man Utd, says Tuchel

Paris St Germain coach Thomas Tuchel admits it will be “very difficult” for Neymar to regain full fitness for their Champions League clash against Manchester United next month.

The Brazil forward suffered a fractured metatarsal against Strasbourg in the French Cup last week, with the club confirming it was a recurrence of the injury that threatened his World Cup participation last year.

“It will be very difficult,” the German coach told Canal Plus after PSG’s 4-1 Ligue 1 win over Stade Rennais on Sunday. “It is too early to talk about a possible return date.

“To start with, we must wait at least one week — this period and his reaction to the treatment will be important. Only then can we be more precise. That said, it is not a secret — it will be very difficult.”

PSG visit Old Trafford for the first leg of their last-16 clash on Feb. 12 before hosting the return leg on March 6.

  • I don’t see Neymar returning to Barca – Xavi

I don’t see Neymar returning to Barca – Xavi

Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandes believes there is no chance that Brazil forward, Neymar will rejoin the LaLiga champions in the near future.

Neymar is in his second season at Paris Saint-Germain after leaving Camp Nou in 2017, but the 26-year-old is already linked with a return to Barca.

The Brazil star reportedly met with Andre Cury, an advisor to Barca in terms of signings, during the international break.

But Xavi – who won eight LaLiga titles and four Champions Leagues at Barca – dismissed any suggestions Neymar could complete a move to his former club.

“I don’t see it. I don’t see it. I also think it didn’t work out well, I don’t see it in any way,” Xavi told Cadena SER.

“I read a lot of press because I’m up to date with everything football, but I see zero chances that Neymar can return to Barcelona.”

The PSG star has scored 13 goals in 16 games for PSG this season as he enjoys another prolific campaign with the Ligue 1 powerhouse.

Xavi praised the former Santos star’s ability and believes Neymar can reach the same level as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“If he is mature and works, he will be close to Cristiano and Messi,” he said.

“He can be decisive, but it depends on him.”

  • PSG duo to miss Champions League clash against Liverpool

Paris Saint German superstars, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar have sustained injuries ahead of their Champions League clash against Liverpool.

Mbappe and Neymar were both forced off injured while representing their respective countries just eight days before facing Liverpool.

Mbappe’s injury in the 1-0 win against Uruguay looked particularly bad as he fell awkwardly on his shoulder and was in a lot of pain before leaving the field.

Brazilian star Neymar pulled a groin muscle when trying to put a cross in Brazil’s 1-0 victory over Cameroon at Stadium MK.

The forward looked distraught as he was taken off the pitch.

France coach, Didier Deschamps was unable to confirm the extent of the injury but admitted his player was in pain.

”He has a sore shoulder, he’s fallen badly,” he said.

“He will have to see with the medical staff. I hope it’s not bad.”

  • Lionel Messi is my idol, says Neymar

Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar says former Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi is his “idol” and has described Cristiano Ronaldo as a footballing “monster”.
The Brazil international spent four years playing alongside Messi at the Nou Camp, with the pair forming two-thirds of the ‘MSN’ partnership along with Luis Suarez which helped Barcelona win two La Liga titles, three Copa del Rey crowns and a Champions League during his time at the club.
Neymar, who joined Ligue 1 giant PSG for £198m in 2017, also faced Ronaldo on many occasions during his time in Spain and, in a conversation with basketball great Steph Curry for The Players’ Tribune, praised the pair and said he is always looking to learn from them.
“Facing Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo – and I played with Messi, who is, for me, one of the greatest footballers of all time, and he is my idol in football,” Neymar said.
“With Messi, I learned every day, whether during our practice, or playing with him, or just watching him play. And that made me stronger and it increased my capacity on the field because I kept learning a lot from him.
“As for Cristiano Ronaldo, he is a monster. Facing him is a pleasure and an honour, but we have to be more prepared. He is one of the greatest in football so you get smarter, you get alert, but at the same time you learn a lot, too.
“So, they are two of the big guys that I can relate to, because I want to learn, I want more, I want to win, I want more trophies, score more goals … so I keep learning from them every day.”

  • Barcelona not considering swoop for Neymar, club VP says

FC Barcelona have no plans to re-sign Neymar from Paris St Germain, the club’s vice-president Jordi Cardoner said on Friday.
His comments knocked down media reports that the Spanish La Liga champions were ready to tempt the Brazilian forward back to the Nou Camp.
Neymar won two La Liga titles and the 2015 UEFA Champions League in four years with Barca and formed a lethal partnership with Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi.
He departed in July 2017 after the Paris giants exercised his release clause.
“No one on the Barca board has talked about the possibility of bringing back Neymar. Right now we can’t give an answer because no one has even mentioned it,” Cardoner told radio station SER Catalunya on Friday.
The 26-year-old Neymar helped lead PSG to a domestic treble this year.
His first season in France was tarnished by a public dispute with team mate Edinson Cavani over the taking of penalty kicks.
There was also the foot injury sustained in March which forced him out for the rest of the campaign.
Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo said in a front-page story on Wednesday that the player has told Barca he wants to return after becoming disillusioned with life in Paris.
“He was the one who left. It would be different if we hadn’t believed him and now we wanted to bring him back. But that’s not the case,” Cardoner added.
“If we did want to sign him, then the board would have to discuss it. But until now no one has talked about it.”

UCL: Neymar scores hat-trick as PSG thrash Red Star

A Neymar hat-trick inspired Paris St-Germain to an emphatic Champions League Group C victory over Red Star Belgrade at the Parc des Princes.

In a one-sided contest, Neymar set the hosts on their way with an exquisite free-kick which found the bottom left corner from 25 yards out.
The Brazil forward doubled PSG’s lead less than three minutes later as the visitors attempted to regroup – guiding a close-range effort into the roof of the net after exchanging passes with Kylian Mbappe.
Edinson Cavani’s deflected strike made it three and Angel di Maria flicked Thomas Meunier’s cross in for a fourth goal before half-time.
PSG began the competition with a narrow 3-2 defeat at Liverpool but back in Paris, and with Italian midfielder Marco Verratti restored to their starting XI after suspension, this showing was a reminder of the firepower at Thomas Tuchel’s disposal.
Despite a determined start, Red Star manager Vladan Milojevic was forced into changes of personnel and tactics at the interval in an attempt to avoid embarrassment.
However, the second period continued in the same fashion as the first.
Visiting goalkeeper Milan Borjan superbly saved a succession of shots as the French Ligue 1 leaders repeatedly carved Red Star open down the left.
On his 50th appearance for PSG, Mbappe received his reward for a fine individual performance by finishing off a sublime move involving Neymar and Juan Bernat to record his 27th goal for the club.
Former Germany international Marko Marin got the Serbian side on the scoresheet with a powerful drive but Neymar had the final word with another superb free-kick.
It ensured he completed his second ever Champions League hat-trick, after one for Barcelona in their 6-1 group stage home win against Celtic in December 2013, and also became the joint-highest scoring Brazilian in Champions League history, level with Kaka on 30 goals.

  • Russia 2018: I exaggerate my reactions sometimes, Neymar admits

Ridiculed for faking and diving during a disappointing 2018 World Cup campaign in Russia, Brazilian forward Neymar has admitted to “exaggerated” reactions saying he is still learning to deal with frustration.

In a 90-second video made for his sponsors Gillette and published on social media accounts and Brazilian television, Neymar sought to win back fans who criticised his behaviour.

“Studs on my calf, knee in my back, stamp on my foot,” he said.

“You may think I exaggerate and, sometimes, I really do exaggerate. But the fact is that I suffer on the field.

“There’s still a child inside me. Sometimes he enchants the world and sometimes he irritates the world.”

The Paris St Germain (PSG) striker had hoped the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup would elevate him to a similar status enjoyed by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The two players have shared the FIFA World Player of the Year award over the last decade.

Instead, Neymar bowed out at the quarter-finals stage when Brazil lost to Belgium, as fans focused less on his football and more on the dives, rolls and tears he produced.

The 26-year-old former Santos and FC Barcelona player told fans in his homeland he was working to become a better person and deal with the disappointments football threw at him.

Neymar suffered a serious foot injury in February and returned to action just days before the start of the World Cup,

“When I seem rude, it’s not because I am a spoilt child, it’s because I haven’t learnt to deal with frustration,” he said in a voiceover to the black-and-white video.

“It’s taken me time to accept your criticism, it’s taken me time to look into the mirror and transform myself into a new man.

“But I am here, with a new face and an open heart. I fell down but only those that fell down can get up.

“You can keep throwing stones or throw those stones away and help me stand. When I stand on my own two feet, all of Brazil stands with me.”

  • World Cup exit left me mourning – Neymar

World Cup exit left me mourning – Neymar

Brazil forward Neymar said he “didn’t want to see a ball” or watch any of the remaining World Cup matches after his side’s quarter-final defeat by Belgium.

“I was in mourning, I was really sad, but sadness passes,” the Paris St-Germain player said.

“I have my son, my family, my friends and they don’t want to see me moping around.”

The 26-year-old also called reports linking him with a move to Real Madrid “all speculation”.

Neymar joined PSG for a world record £200m from Barcelona last summer and scored 28 goals in all competitions as the French side completed a domestic treble.

The Brazilian was criticised for acting after being fouled at the World Cup, but says he should have been better protected by referees.

“People were faster to criticise the one being fouled than the one doing the fouling,” Neymar told AFP.

“I went to the World Cup to play, to beat the opposition, not to get kicked. The criticism of me was exaggerated, but I’m a big boy, I’m used to dealing with this kind of thing.

“I can’t be the referee and play at the same time, but there are times I wish I could.”

  • Neymar rules out Paris Saint-Germain exit

Paris Saint-Germain winger Neymar has ruled out the possibility of leaving the club this summer despite reports linking him with a move to Real Madrid .

Speculation regarding Neymar’s future raged throughout his debut season in the French capital, with reports quickly emerging following his world-record move from Barcelona claiming that he was unhappy at PSG and wanted to return to Spain.

Madrid have been long-term admirers of Neymar, having initially missed out on his signature when he decided to join Barcelona, and Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit from the Bernabeu led to further reports that the European champions could step up their chase for the Brazil international.

However, Madrid themselves have officially denied their interest and now Neymar has also ruled out the possibility of leaving PSG after only one year.

“I’m staying. I’m staying in Paris. I have a contract. Most of the speculation is made by the media,” Neymar told reporters.

“Everyone knows my objective, why I went to Paris. I want to have success with that club and I hope next season could be wonderful.”

Neymar scored 27 goals and created 16 more in just 28 appearances for PSG last season before his campaign was cut short by injury.
