  • Neymar tells PSG to buy Suarez from Barcelona

Paris Saint-Germain forward, Neymar Jr., has reportedly told the club to move for Barcelona’s Luis Suarez, after growing tired of playing alongside Edinson Cavani.

Neymar’s reason for linking up again with his former Barcelona teammate, is that he considers the Uruguayan to be “a winner”, Sport reports.

Barcelona will however not be keen to sell to the Ligue 1 champions, as they wouldn’t want to strengthen a direct rival in the Champions League.

The Spanish club are also seeking to reinforce their attack, after missing out on Antoine Griezmann, who has committed his future to Atletico Madrid.

Neymar only arrived at PSG last summer from the Nou Camp in a world-record £200 million transfer.

  • Neymar says World Cup exit saddest moment of career

Brazil forward Neymar Jr. has admitted that their quarter-final exit at the 2018 World Cup, “is the saddest moment of my career.”

Neymar played the entire 90minutes, as Belgium beat the South Americans 2-1 on Friday night.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward, however expressed his pride at the experience in Russia.

“I can say that this is the saddest moment of my career, it is incredibly painful because we knew we could get there, we knew we had conditions to go further, to make history,” Neymar wrote on Instagram.

“But it was not this time. It’s hard to find the strength to play soccer again, but I’m sure God will give me strength enough to face anything, so I’ll never stop thanking God, even in defeat… because I know that your way is much better than mine I’m very happy to be part of this team, I’m proud of all, interrupted our dream but they didn’t get it out of our head and neither of our hearts.”

In a further post on Instagram stories, Neymar added: “I am thankful to all of those who sent us messages and who supported us.”

[BREAKING] World Cup: Neymar shines as Brazil beat Mexico to reach quarter-final

Neymar scored one goal and played a key role in the second as Brazil edged out Mexico in Samara to reach the World Cup quarter-finals for a seventh consecutive time.

Brazil did not have it all their own way, especially in an opening period dominated by the Central Americans, but the five-time winners grew into what became a controlled performance.

It means Mexico are once again eliminated at the last-16 stage – as they have been at every World Cup since 1994.

They did have plenty of chances early on, and it was only after a largely frustrating first half for Brazil that Neymar started the move to put his side ahead.

His run across goal and clever backheel won Willian space, and the Chelsea midfielder only needed two touches to drive into box and lay the ball across for the world’s most expensive player to slide home.

It was Brazil’s 227th goal at the World Cup, meaning they overtake Germany as the all-time top scorers.

Just moments earlier, Mexico’s Jesus Gallardo wasted a brilliant chance when he shot wildly over the crossbar instead of playing in Hirving Lozano.

For much of the second half, Mexico’s bright start was just a memory, but Carlos Vela forced a save from Brazil goalkeeper Alisson with his side’s first shot on target not long after going behind.

In the match’s closing stages they rallied once more, but Brazil defended stoically before doubling their lead on the break through a Roberto Firmino tap-in after Neymar’s effort was diverted by the toe of Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa.

Brazil will face Belgium or Japan – who meet in Rostov-on-Don in the day’s second match – in their last-eight tie in Kazan on Friday.

  • Brazilian star Neymar reveals Guardiola as his dream coach

The lure of playing for the Manchester City coach is one that remains tempting to the world’s most expensive player
Neymar has reiterated his desire to one day play under Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar missed the chance to feature under Guardiola at Barcelona, joining the club a year after the Catalan had left his role as head coach.

Brazil forward Neymar spoke in January 2016 of his admiration for Guardiola, who enjoyed a spell at Bayern Munich between his jobs at Barca and City.

“I have always wanted to work with Guardiola,” he told ESPN Brasil.

“It’s different, I arrived [at Barca] after he left. I really want to work with him.”

Neymar joined PSG from Barca last August in a world-record €222 million move, but has already been strongly linked with a return to La Liga and his former club’s great rivals, Real Madrid.

  • Injured Neymar named in Brazil World Cup squad

Brazil have named injured Paris St-Germain forward Neymar in their 23-man squad for the World Cup in Russia.

Neymar, 26, had an operation on a fractured metatarsal in March and the Brazil team doctor said he would be out of action for three months.

Manchester City quartet Ederson, Danilo, Fernandinho and Gabriel Jesus are among the Premier League-based players named in the squad.

They are joined by Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino and Chelsea’s Willian.

PSG right-back Dani Alves was last week ruled out because of a knee injury.

Brazil are in Group E with Costa Rica, Serbia and Switzerland, and play their first match on Sunday, 17 June.

    Brazil squad in full:

Goalkeepers: Alisson (Roma), Ederson (Manchester City), Cassio (Corinthians).

Defenders: Danilo (Manchester City), Fagner (Corinthians), Marcelo (Real Madrid), Filipe Luis (Atletico Madrid), Thiago Silva, Marquinhos (both PSG), Miranda (Inter Milan), Pedro Geromel (Gremio).

Midfielders: Casemiro (Real Madrid), Fernandinho (Manchester City), Paulinho (Barcelona), Fred (Shakhtar Donetsk), Renato Augusto (Beijing Guoan), Philippe Coutinho (Barcelona), Willian (Chelsea), Douglas Costa (Juventus).

Forward: Neymar (PSG), Taison (Shakhtar Donetsk), Gabriel Jesus (Manchester City), Roberto Firmino (Liverpool).

  • Neymar recovers from broken foot injury, ready for World Cup

Brazil international Neymar hopes to be fit for this summer’s World Cup and says he will return to training from a broken foot on 17 May.

The Paris St-Germain forward needed surgery on a broken metatarsal bone after being injured in a league game on 25 February.

Brazil play their World Cup opening fixture against Switzerland on 17 June, a month after his expected return.

“I hope to get there in great shape,” said the 26-year-old.

Neymar became the world’s most expensive footballer when he joined PSG from Barcelona last August, and has scored 25 goals with 16 assists for the French side this season.

“I get my final examination on 17 May and then I’ll be free to play,” he told a news conference in Sao Paulo, where he has been receiving treatment.

“I had an examination last week, it is all perfect, evolving well, so I hope that continues so I can get back as soon as possible.

“I am having treatment every day, and from the moment I start training I am going to work harder than I ever worked because this is a dream that’s coming up. It’s a World Cup. I’ve waited four years for this chance, it’s close.”

Neymar played for Brazil, who have won the World Cup five times, at the 2014 finals in his homeland, but missed their 7-1 semi-final defeat by Germany through injury.

Brazil go to Russia as joint favourites alongside champions Germany. After their opener against Switzerland in Group E, they face Costa Rica on 22 June and then Serbia five days later.

Neymar, who joined PSG for a fee of 222m euros (£200m), said he was apprehensive about kicking a ball again after almost three months out.

“Of course, doubts exist and I feel them too sometimes,” he said. “But that’s normal for a guy who has had the first surgery of his career. It’s very difficult for me not playing and not training.

“I have to work even harder but I am going to have enough time to arrive in form for the World Cup, to prepare. It was horrible getting injured but I am more rested, that’s the upside. We have to see the positive side of things.”

  • Football Legend Pele says Neymar plays more like Messi not Ronaldo

Brazilian Legend Pele claims fellow countryman Neymar is more like Lionel Messi than Cristiano Ronaldo.

Neymar, 26, who finished third behind Ronaldo and Messi for the Ballon d’Or in 2015 and 2017, has been compared to both players, especially in his native country Brazil.

Pele claims Neymar’s ability as a playmaker is more similar in style to Barcelona forward Messi, while Real Madrid forward Ronaldo’s finishing reminds him of former Brazil team-mates Vava and Coutinho, with whom he won the 1962 World Cup.

“Neymar has been compared with Cristiano Ronaldo. So I’ve said several times, told friends, in Europe, given interviews… Cristiano Ronaldo is an excellent player, he could be like our Vava, our Coutinho, the finisher,” Pele told ESPN.

“Neymar is really more of a Messi-style, one who constructs the play, but scores the goal also.”

PSG forward Neymar is currently out of action with a foot injury but is expected to recover in time to play for Brazil at this summer’s World Cup in Russia.

  • Emery says Neymar to return in two, three weeks

Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar, who is recuperating in Brazil after surgery on his injured right foot, will be back “in two to three weeks,” the club’s coach Unai Emery said on Friday.

“I spoke with him this week, he’s good, relaxed,” Emery said.

Emery was speaking in Bordeaux where PSG, shorn of their biggest star, face Monaco on Saturday in the French League Cup final.

“We spoke about the final,” Emery said. “He’s going to follow the game.”

Neymar, who is crucial to Brazil’s hopes at the World Cup which starts in Russia on June 14, was hurt on February 25 against Marseille and returned to Brazil for treatment.

He missed the second-leg defeat to Real Madrid on March 6, which eliminated PSG from the Champions League.

Brazil’s national team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar, performed surgery on March 3 and then estimated that Neymar would be out for “two-and-a-half to three months.”

That time frame would have meant Neymar’s PSG season was over. But for the striker, who was injured during the last World Cup and missed Brazil’s traumatic 7-1 semi-final loss to Germany, the objective was to be fully fit for this year’s competition.

PSG and the Brazilian football federation plan to assess Neymar’s health again in mid-April.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi visited Neymar’s bedside in Brazil in mid-March, partly to quash rumours that the star would be leaving Paris a year after his high-profile arrival for a world-record 222 million euros ($264 million) last summer.

“The doctors aren’t yet in a position to say exactly when he will return,” Al-Khelaifi said at the time.

On Friday, Monaco defender Kamil Glik told a press conference that PSG will miss Neymar “but that doesn’t change much for us.”

“There are other top-quality players,” Glik said. “We know what we have to do to win this trophy.”

  • PSG can upset Real Madrid without Neymar – Dani Alves

Paris St-Germain are capable of beating Real Madrid’s strongest side even without injured talisman Neymar, says defender Dani Alves.

The Brazilian forward is out for the rest of the season after having surgery on a broken bone in his foot.

Ligue 1 leaders PSG lost the first leg 3-1 as a Cristiano Ronaldo double helped Real come from behind to win.

“Either we sit down and cry, or we get up and do what we have to do,” said Alves.

Neymar suffered a sprained ankle in addition to his foot break during PSG’s 3-0 league win over Marseille last week.

“With Neymar, PSG are stronger, and without Neymar we are still strong because there are other players,” Alves added.

“For sure, we will feel his absence. But I insist that between sitting down and crying and getting up and getting on with it, I always opt for the second option.”

PSG are unbeaten in all competitions at Parc des Princes this season, but they have failed to defeat Real Madrid in their three previous Champions League encounters.

Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema could make his 100th Champions League appearance as his side continue to chase their third successive title.

  • Neymar’s surgery successful, says Brazil Confederation

Neymar Jr, Brazil and Paris St Germain forward has had a successful operation on his injured foot and ankle, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said in a statement on Saturday.

The world’s most expensive footballer was operated on in Belo Horizonte by the Brazil national team doctor to repair the fractured metatarsal and sprained ankle he suffered in last weekend’s French Ligue 1 match against Olympique de Marseille.

“He will be re-evaluated in around six weeks in order to specify a possible date when he can return to training.” CBF said.
