Neymar opens season’s account with brace in PSG rout

Brazilian forward Neymar scored his first two goals of the season as Paris St Germain demolished hapless Angers 6-1 in a hopelessly one-sided Ligue 1 match on Friday.

Alessandro Florenzi broke through for the title holders after seven minutes before Neymar scored either side of halftime to set PSG on their way to a fourth successive win.

Ismael Traore headed one back for Angers but it was only a brief respite as Julian Draxler, Idrissa Gana Gueye and Kylian Mbappe added another three more for the hosts.

PSG, who lost their opening two games of the season, jumped to second in the table with 12 points from six matches, one behind leaders Rennes.

Neymar announces surprise move to PUMA

PUMA has signed a long-term partnership with Brazilian football player Neymar Jr.

Neymar will not only wear the PUMA King on pitch, but will be a brand ambassador off-pitch, wearing PUMA’s lifestyle, training, and sport-inspired footwear and apparel products.

“Neymar Jr. joining our PUMA Family is fantastic”, said Bjørn Gulden, CEO of PUMA. “He is one of the best players in the world and extremely relevant for the global football and youth culture. We are very excited and look forward to working with him both on and off the pitch.”

In a message to his fans on his social media channels entitled “The King is Back”, Neymar Jr. spoke about the impact that football greats such as Pelé and Maradona have had on his life, and his decision to follow in their footsteps by partnering with PUMA.

“I grew up watching videos of great football legends such as Pelé, Cruyff, Eusebio and Maradona,” Neymar Jr. said. “These were the kings of the pitch, the kings of my sport. I wish to bring back the legacy that those athletes created on the pitch. They each played in PUMA, and each of them created their magic in The KING.”

He continued: “Every time I lace my boots, my KING boots, I will do anything to achieve all of my dreams to honor my name and that of all those great ones who wore the KING before me. This will be my PUMA history. The KING is back!”

Neymar has won several trophies in Brazil, Spain and France, as well as the Champions League and the Copa Libertadores. He also won the Olympic Gold Medal with the Brazilian National Team in 2016. He has scored 61 goals in 101 matches for Brazil, making him the third highest goal scorer for his national team.

He currently plays for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and has won three French league titles, two Coupe de France, and two Coupe de la Ligue. He played an important role in leading the club to its first ever Champions League Final in 2020.

Rivaldo: Why would Neymar join Barca in chaos?

Former Barcelona attacker Rivaldo does not believe Neymar has any reason to join the club.

The Paris Saint-Germain striker is again being linked with a move back to his old club.

But Rivaldo thinks the current chaos at Barcelona surrounding Lionel Messi means Neymar would have no interest in such a move.

He told Betfair: “After everything he went through since his arrival at PSG, I think Neymar has to be congratulated for reaching the Champions League final after three seasons with the club.

“He had a tough time in France after he tried to return to Barcelona, being booed at his own stadium, but he managed to turn things around and I admire him because of that.

“Today, he is totally focused on the club and playing well, so the fans are supporting him. He has no reason to leave the club now, especially given the chaos at Barca.

“PSG shouldn’t make too many changes to their squad for next season, so their understanding will improve a bit more and they should be strong contenders again in the Champions League.”

Neymar reflects on Champions League defeat to Bayern

Neymar said “losing is part of the sport” as the Paris Saint-Germain star took to his twitter handle on social media to congratulate Bayern Munich on being crowned Champions League winners.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that PSG were unable to cap their first Champions League final appearance with silverware following a 1-0 defeat to Bayern in Lisbon on Sunday.

Neymar was caught emotional and teary at the post-match after PSG failed to add a maiden European crown to their domestic 2019-20 title in France.

Afterwards, Neymar wrote via Twitter: “Losing is part of the sport, we tried everything, and we fought until the end.

“Thanks for the support and affection from everyone. Congratulations Bayern.”

Kingsley Coman’s second-half header saw Bundesliga champions, Bayern emerged triumphant as they claimed their sixth European Cup and Champions League trophy.

It also saw Bayern seal a second treble in eight seasons, with PSG ending their campaign as Ligue 1, Coupe de France, Coupe de la Ligue and Trophee de Champions holders.

Mbappe, a World Cup champion with France, also took to social media following the showpiece event.

“Disappointed not to end this year with the best of awards, but life is made that way.

“We fought with all our might. Congratulations to Bayern. And a big thank you for your support,” Mbappe wrote on Twitter.

Neymar and Kylian Mbappe shed bitter tears after the final whistle in Lisbon when Bayern edged Paris Saint Germain 1-0 to win the Champions League.

Neymar even briefly touched the trophy after receiving his silver medal.

Photographs also showed David Alaba of Bayern consoling the tearful Brazilian after the match.

As Neymar said on Twitter later: “Losing is part of the sport, we try everything, we fight until the end. Thank you for the support and affection of each one of you and CONGRATULATIONS to BAYERN”.

Neymar after getting the silver medal touches the elusive trophy

The trophy was hoisted by Bayern Munich captain and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer who had produced world-class saves against Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Marquinhos to help Bayern Munich to the 1-0 win.

And the ultimate irony of the Sunday night in Lisbon was that Munich’s winner came from Paris-born Kingsley Coman, who was a graduate of PSG Academy.

Ever since PSG came under Qatari ownership in 2011 Europe’s biggest prize in football was the club’s biggest aim, with more than $A1.3 billion dollars spent on players including Neymar and Mbappe.

They never came as close as on Sunday because it was their first final in their 50 years as a club, the reward for a new-found team spirit under coach Thomas Tuchel in which the star forwards worked as hard as their teammates.

“I am very proud. It is always the worst feeling to lose a final like that,” Tuchel said after his team failed to win the trophy for France 27 years after Olympique Marseille’s success.

“Over the last two years we have built a special atmosphere. We must keep this spirit and mentality. We need to build another strong side to continue this run. That will be the challenge to rediscover this spirit.”

PSG prepared to do Neymar deal with Barca

PSG are prepared to do business with Barcelona over the sale of Neymar.

The Brazil captain has refused to consider new contract talks with PSG as he pushes to return to the Nou Camp.

And Okdiario’s chief of football Eduardo Inda, speaking on El Chiringuito, has revealed PSG are willing to discuss terms.

“Barcelona continues to insist on Neymar and PSG is letting this develop,” said Inda. “They would be willing to negotiate if Barca included (Ousmane) Dembélé.

“The operation would be a player plus €80m.”

Neymar has a deal with PSG to 2022, having left Barca three years ago for a world record €222m.

PSG star Neymar ordered to pay back €6.7m to Barca

Paris St-Germain star Neymar must pay 6.7m euros (£6.1m) to former club Barcelona, a Spanish court has ruled.

The Brazil international claimed he was owed 43.6m euros in loyalty bonuses by Barcelona, who he left in August 2017.

A judge ruled in favour of the La Liga side but 28-year-old Neymar, who filed the lawsuit shortly after the transfer, can appeal against the decision.

Barcelona said they “welcomed” the judgement and would “continue to firmly defend its legitimate interests”.

The Brazil forward also made a complaint to world governing body Fifa after Barca refused to pay him following his 222m euros (£200m) move in 2017.

As well as not paying Neymar, Barcelona started legal proceedings against him to pay back £8m he received when he signed a new deal with them in 2016.

Fifa did not take any action, saying it would leave the case to the courts.

I want Barcelona return, Neymar tells teammates

Neymar has told PSG teammates he wants to return to Barcelona.

Mundo Deportivo says Neymar feels it’s time to leave PSG and has told several senior teammates of his plans.

Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu is still pursuing plans to bring Neymar back to Barca for next season – despite the price involved.

And it’s been revealed he failed with an August offer for the Brazil captain.

Barca tabled a bid of €130m cash plus Ivan Rakitic, Jean-Clair Todibo and Ousmane Dembele in exchange for Neymar – but PSG turned it down.

However, Bartomeu will try again this summer knowing Neymar has already resisted PSG’s attempts this year to secure him to a new €100m-plus contract.
