    Speed Darlington: List of Nigerian celebrities who have been sexually involved with a minor

    A disturbing video of controversial Nigerian entertainer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, during a live routine session, sparked outrage on social media on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

    During the session on Tuesday, Speed Darlington recounted an encounter with a 15-year-old girl at a Lagos hotel, which resulted in bloodied sheets.

    According to the singer, during the session, he paid N2,000 to the hotel staff to change the sheets while expressing disdain for working for others, especially in hotels.

    These statements by the singer which were made publicly and without remorse,  triggered outrage across social media platforms with many Nigerians taken to X (formerly Twitter) to express their anger, as they called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the singer.

    Following the sad occurance, several male entertainers in Nigeria have been guilty of engaging in sexual misconduct with minors.

    One of such is, Moses Armstrong , a popular Nollywood actor, who was arraigned for raping a minor – a teenage girl he adopted and has been living with his family.

    The actor was first arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Uyo on June 17th, 2022 after he was charged with rape, intimidation, conspiracy and supplying drugs or instruments to procure abortion.

    The national president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas, in response to the incident, publicly condemned the act, describing the case as “a very serious one”.

    The AGN president added that the organisation will not condone such a crime.

    Rollas said: “To get involved with a child as young as 16yrs, is not something I and the association I represent, would stand for.

    “This is a very sad development involving a member of ours, but I wouldn’t want to comment any further on this case.”

    Another entertainer guilty of sexual misconduct against a minor, is Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, aka Baba Ijesha. The actor was arraigned on six counts of child defilement, indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by penetration, and sexual assault by penetration.

    Even though the actor pleaded not guilty, a Closed-Circuit Television Video footage detailing his relationship with the victim was played in court.

    While delivering judgment, Justice  Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Lagos State Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court, Ikeja sentenced Baba Ijesha, to 16 years imprisonment for defilement.

    The court found him guilty of indecent treatment of a child and sexual assault of a minor.

    The Yoruba actor was also found guilty of indecently touching the minor and sexually assaulting her by rubbing her body and sucking her fingers.

    The 55-year-old entertainer shared the news on social media on Sunday, expressing gratitude for the honour bestowed upon him.

    “NEXT LEVEL……Service to Community,” he wrote in a post. In another message, he added, “Special thanks to the entire UMUIHUOCHA AUTONOMOUS COMMUNITY….a new beginning.”

    Reacting to the developement, fans, friends and colleagues took to the comment section of the post to celebrate the comedian’s new role as a traditional ruler.

    Actor Segun Arinze wrote, “All hail the new King Okey Bakassi.”

    Fellow comedian Gbenga Adeyinka also penned a heartfelt message: “Congratulations on your new elevation by the Umuihuocha Autonomous Community! This is a remarkable achievement and I pray for your continued success in this important role. May you inspire positive change and demonstrate impressive leadership as you guide your community. Kudos to your community for making such an excellent choice in selecting such a distinguished gentleman and an outstanding leader of men. Best wishes to you and the community! Warm regards my brother … igweeeeeeeeeeeeee.”

    Former Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) president Ejike Asiegbu commented, “NWANNEM YOU ARE DESERVING OF ANY HONOUR BESTOWED ON YOU CONGRATULATIONS.”

    Dr. Shaibu Husseini, executive director of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), addressed him as “Ichie Na Umuihoichia,” while TV host Frank Edoho congratulated him with the words, “Congratulations, your Majesty!”

    The life wish of every reasonable parent is to be buried by their children in old age, and not the other way round. Unfortunately, for some prominent Nigerian parent, this has not been the case, as harsh realities of life state otherwise, casting a heavy burden as it leads them to bury their own children.

    Understandably, death is inevitable, but when it comes untimely, it becomes devastating to those whose loved ones were snatched out of nowhere.

    For these prominent Nigerians, including some Nollywood actors, the loss of their children was a heartbreaking case. In this article, we will be looking at some Nigerian celebrities and elite who recently lost a child.

    Francis Duru

    A veteran Nollywood actor, Francis Duru, in August of this year expressed grief at the death of his son, Ifeanyi.

    The actor announced the news in an Instagram post describing Ifeanyi as a “champ” and a “lion” who battled heroically.

    He wrote, “My champ! My lion, you fought like a lion. If this is the way He wants it, so be it, I still judge you faithful. Ifeanyi, my champ. I will miss you, son. I will forever love you. Rest in peace, son, rest. I give you thanks, Lord!”

    Jerry Amilo

    Nollywood actor, Jerry Amilo, on Thursday, October, 10th bid farewell to daughter, Chidera, who passed away on October 4. The veteran actor, in a touching Instagram post, expressed his heartbreak over her sudden death, describing how it left him “speechless” and feeling like she took “a part of me” with her.

    ”You took a part of me with you. I’m so speechless” he wrote, pouring out his sorrow. In another post, he posted a photo of him dressed in black standing in front of his daughter’s coffin.

    He captioned the post, ”Goodnight my angel. May your soul rest in perfect peace amen.”

    Saidi Balogun

    Nollywood actor Saidi Balogun announced his daughter Zeenat’s death on his Instagram page, on Saturday 5th October after sharing a solemn image of candlelight surrounded by flowers and heartbroken emojis.

    Reacting to the sad news, colleagues of the actor,  including Ronke Oshodi Oke and his former wife, Fathia Williams, penned down emotional tributes.

    Fathia wrote: “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un”, while Ronke wrote: “No words can ease the pain of losing someone so precious. During this incredibly difficult time, my heart goes out to you, Saidi Balogun. May you find strength in the love and support surrounding you.”

    As of press time, the cause of Zeenat’s death remains unknown

    Mele Kyari

    The Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited,  Mele Kyari announced the death of his daughter, Fatima on Friday.

    According to reports, Fatima was age of 25 before her sudden demise.

    Some of our favourite Nigerian celebrities at some point in their lives have suffered from Kidney disease, whilst some survived the illness, others were unfortunate, as the disease took their lives.

    The recent ordeal of award-winning video director, ThankGod Omori, popularly known as TG Omori, who revealed  he had a failed kidney transplant following his brother’s kidney donation to him to improve his kidney-related ailment has highlighted further the increase in cases of Chronic kidney disease (CKD) in Nigeria.

    Sadly, the sufferers of Kidney disease, according to the recent statistics by the Nigerian Association of Nephrology (NAN), are mainly the working-age population, with many resulting in loss of jobs and poverty due to the condition. 

    Information from NAN showed that the condition not only gulps vast sums of money for treatment, it also leaves the sufferers constantly tired, in pain, and at risk of death.

    In this article, we will be looking at some Nigerian celebrities who have suffered from Kidney disease and others who died from the disease.

    1) TG Omori: An award-winning music producer publicly called for prayers after revealing that his kidney transplant was unsuccessful.

    The music producer had earlier revealed on his X account that his brother donated a kidney to help alleviate his kidney-related ailment.

    However, in an update shared on Wednesday, the cinematographer disclosed that the transplant had failed.

    He wrote, “One year after my kidney crashed, I just had a failed transplant at St. Nicolas Hospital Lagos. Pray for me.”

    2) Leo Mezie: The 46-year-old Leo Mezie, a prominent Nollywood actor, died in 2022 after recovering from a kidney transplant. 

    The deceased’s colleague, Chioma Toplis, had in a post on her Instagram account, confirmed that Mezie died in a hospital in the Federal Capital Territory while recovering from a Kidney transplant.

    Sharing some of his pictures in a post, she wrote, “Actor Leo Mezie is dead. He died on Saturday in Abuja while recovering from a kidney transplant. His corpse has been moved to Umuahia his hometown. RIP Leo.”

    3) Amaechi Muonagor: The veteran Nollywood actor Amaechi Muonagor died earlier this year after suffering from kidney-related issues, diabetes and stroke.

    His fellow actor Kingsley Orji confirmed the actor’s death days after the veteran cried out for financial assistance on social media to enable him pay for a kidney transplant in India.

    4) Muna Obiekwe: Nollywood actor Muna Obiekwe, had died of kidney failure on January 18, 2015 at a hospital in Festac, Lagos. According to the late actor’s sister, his blood pressure had triggered a kidney failure. He was later buried on February 3 at Umudioka in Anambra State.

    5) OJB Jezreel: A late Nigerian music producer and singer who underwent a kidney transplant in 2013.

    6) Eedris Abdulkareem: A Nigerian Afrobeat artist, songwriter, and singer, Eedris Turayo Abdulkareem Ajenifuja, popularly known as Eedris Abdulkareem was diagnosed with kidney failure,  he however, he underwent a kidney transplant in 2022.

    7): Sammie Okposo: Popular Nigerian gospel singer who underwent a kidney transplant in 2022; he later slumped and died later in the same year at the age of 51.

    8) Lord of Ajasa: A Nigerian rapper diagnosed with kidney disease in 2022 and underwent surgery.

    9) Emma Ugolee, Veteran broadcaster and host of the music talk show ‘The Gist’ on HipTV, Emma Ugolee, suffered  Kidney disease for four years but survived after a successful surgey.

    D’banj shared a video on his Instagram with the caption, “Happy Birthday to my Papa, @realjerryeze. It was an honor to surprise you in Abuja today, and even on your special day, you still took out time to bless us.

    “Your relentless faith and passion for God continue to inspire us all. May God’s grace and favor overflow in your life this new year. Thank you for being a blessing to so many.”

    Mike Ezurounye on the other hand declared the clergyman as the only certified pastor. Praying for him, he stated that the clergyman is above always.

    He wrote; “Happy Birthdayyyyyy to the only PASTOR I Certifyyyyyyy Ohhhh yes, I said so. A Man who GOD has called to do his work and Greatly too have Nations Listened.@realjerryeze You are Above Alwaysssss”.

    Yul Edochie via his Instagram page to celebrate the clergyman, describing him as his brother and man. He wished him more beautiful years and prayed for God to lead him always.

    2023 general elections in Nigeria are almost here, baring last minute change, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed the presidential and National Assembly elections for the 25th of February while the Gubernatorial and state Assembly Elections are slated for March 11, 2023.

    Funke Akindele

    Funke bursts into the movie scene in the early 2000s with the television series Ineed to know where she played the role of a secondary school  student. She interpreted her role very well and it’s been no looking back for her since then.

    Her movie Jenifa and Omo Ghetto practical shot her into limelight as it made her become a force to reckon with  in the movie industry home and abroad.

    Funke has won many awards  for the roles she plays in movies. Her TV series Jenifa’s diary still rule the airwaves till this very moment.

    She joined politics few years ago and has been chosen as the deputy governorship aspirant  in the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State.

    She is running alongside her Principal Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran popularly known as  Jandor. They are both in contention presenting a joint ticket for the 2023 guber elections in the state.

    Kenneth Okonkwo

    Another actor who has carved a niche for himself in the movie industry is Kenneth Okonkwo. He is  an actor, legal practitioner who shot into limelight with the Movie Living in Bondage shot and delivered many years ago.

    The actor was born and bred in Enugu state and has been one of the spokepersons for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

    Okonkwo has brought his brilliance and wealth of experience to bear as Peter Obi’s spokesperson. His delivery and knowledge of the rule of Law is topnotch.

    Okonkwo’s disposition on the job is of good quality.

    He could be getting a bigger political appointment should Peter Obi emerge as the country’s next president.

     

    Banky W

    His real names is Olubankole Wellington and he’s  a Lagosian by root.

    He’s married to another wonderful and beautiful actress known as Adesuwa Etomi and they have been living happily together.

    The singer cum actor shot into limelight in the acting world with his surprise acting skills in the movie the Wedding party where he played the role of a groom with his partner Adesuwa.

     

    Banky W has also delved into politics and has been given the ticket to run for the House of Representatives in Eti-Osa Area of Lagos state under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

    He also had a shot in politics in 2019 when he contested for the House of Reps in same locality but under a different party  Modern Democratic Party (MDP) for Eti-Osa Federal House Of Representatives but lost.

    Tonto Dike

    Beautiful nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh has also given politics a shot.

    She is the deputy governorship candidate of African Democratic Party in Rivers State  and will be running alongside her principal Tonte Ibraye.

    Upon being called  to serve her fatherland , Dikeh announced the nomination via her social media handles  where she shared their plans if elected into office in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections  in Rivers State.

    Femi Branch

    Nigerian actor, Femi Branch known for his baritone voice in movies has also taken a big shot in politics.

    The Ogun state born actor has been named the running mate to Ogun State gubernatorial candidate, Tofunmi Ogunronbi of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), ahead of the forthcoming  general election in the country.

    Branch’s political party may not be very popular but his foray into politics will open up the ladder for him to climb in his political journey.

    The NRM guber candidate on Ogun state Dr Tofunmi Ogunrombi said he picked the Ogun-born actor because he believes he would add more value to his candidacy.

    Desmond Elliot

    Another handsome actor who has delved into politics is Desmond Elliot.The Lagos born thespian has been elected into the Lagos state House of Assembly twice and he’s now running for another term in office.

    Desmond represent Surulere constituency in the Lagos state House of Assembly and will be hoping to deliver on his promises come 2023.

    His foray into politics has limited his appearance on Television screens an cinemas, Desmond really proved his mettle as an actor during his active days.

    Hilda Dokunbo

    Another Beautiful  screen diva and actress, Hilda Dokunbo has also joined politics and will be contesting  the Federal House of Representatives in Asalga/Akulga Federal constituency of Rivers in the forthcoming general elections in the country.

    She is running under the umbrella of Labour party in the state.

    She has promised to serve dilligently if elected and belives her party Labour will also do well generally in the general elections in the country come February 2023.
