    Four kidnapped victims rescued as police recover Ak-47 rifles in Abia

    The Abia State Police Command says it has rescued four kidnapped victims who were driving in their Toyota RAV4 along New Umuahia Road, Obingwa.

    The police spokesperson DSP Maureen Chinaka in a statement on Saturday said, the Command received a report that the victims were  kidnapped by unknown armed men.

    She added that leveraging on credible intelligence, on 14/03/2025, the Tactical team of the Command located the kidnappers’ hideout in Osokwa, in Osisioma Ngwa LGA, using technological means.

    The victims were held hostage for five days in a three-bedroom bungalow.

    DSP Maureen further explained that upon arrival, the operatives came under heavy gunfire from the kidnappers.

    She noted, however, that the criminals could not withstand the superior firepower of the Command’s tactical teams as six members of the kidnapping syndicate were neutralized and the four kidnapped victims were rescued unhurt.

    “The victims were immediately taken to the Police Hospital, for medical attention.

    ”Items recovered from the kidnappers are two AK-47 rifles, six magazines, and 34 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the scene, ” she said.

    She also informed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang who escaped with bullet injuries.

    The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa has however advised the good people of Abia State to report anyone with gunshot injuries to the nearest police station or contact the Command.

    Top police officer dies while eating beans with colleagues in Abia

     DSP Kenneth Ndu, a senior officer of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), has slumped and died on Thursday while eating beans and plantains with colleagues at the command headquarters in Abia State.

    TheNewsGuru reports that Ndu collapsed hours after returning from an investigative operation with his team. He was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia, where doctors confirmed his death.

    A top officer, who requested anonymity, clarified that Ndu was a team leader of the Swift Response Squad, Zone 9 Umuahia, not the Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), as some reports had suggested.

    The report had read, “Tragedy struck at the Abia State Police Command on Thursday as the Commander of the DSP, Kenneth Ndu, slumped and died while eating with fellow officers.”

    Confirming his death while clarifying, the source said, “Ndu was said to have died of cardiac arrest; the man is not a commander but a team leader at Swift Response Squad Zone 9 Headquarters.”

    The deceased  was set to retire from the Nigerian Police Force in March 2025.

    Firearms recovered, vehicle intercepted by police in Akwa-Ibom

    Akwa Ibom police intercepted a vehicle during a stop-and-search operation in Uyo, recovering a locally fabricated firearm and two live cartridges.

    DSP Timfon John, the command’s Public Relations Officer, disclosed the recovery in a statement released on Thursday.

    “The stop-and-search strategy aims to curb crime and enhance public safety,” John said.

    The police spokesperson said the incident occurred at the Ikot Ekpene Control Post when officers stopped a Mercedes Benz C300 with a customised plate number, FORBES JR, carrying three male occupants.

    “In a determined effort to rid Akwa Ibom of illegal firearms and criminal elements, operatives of the command intercepted a Mercedes Benz C300 with a customised plate number, FORBES JR,” John said.

    According to the CPRO, the occupants hail from Itak and Ndiya villages in Ikono Local Government Area of the state.

    The police spokesperson further stated that the Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, had ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter.

    John reassured the public of the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.

    SP Edafe Bright, the spokesperson of the Delta state police command, has condemned a viral video of a lady complaining about how officers ransacked her bag during a stop and search operation.

     In the video that was shared, captured the moment officers stopped a commercial bus and ransacked the travelling bags of the occupants.

    According to the lady, the officers went as far as opening items that were being way billed.

    She said, ”Is this even right? Yesterday we were travelling from Benin to Owerri and at this particular checkpoint, this police people stopped us to check . Now I understand them searching but opening a girl’s bag to this extent, is it even right? Going though my clothes one after the other, my underwears were inside and he didn’t even flinch. I understand them searching but to this extent? Males are supposed to be searching males and females searching females.”

    Responding, Edafe said it is indeed right for the officers to carry out the search but that male officers are not meant to search women but only their properties.

     He wrote; ‘’What if they had recovered beretta pistols and Ammunitions while carrying out this  thorough search? Would you be asking this question? The police were right and can search all items including way bill during the course of stop and search duty. And yes they can search the belonging of a woman. They are only not allowed to search a woman for males officers, but not their properties.  Are we clear?”

    Amnesty condemns killing of popular Nigerian footballer by police

    Amnesty International has condemned the killing of Sani, a popular Niger State footballer by a policeman  under the influence of alcohol in Sabon Gari market, Chanchaga area of the state.

    TheNewsGuru reports that the deceased Sani was shot dead by the police while sleeping at his friend’s tea shop

    Amnesty said in a statement, “The Nigerian authorities must immediately and impartially investigate the killing of a footballer Sani by a policeman at New Market Sabon Gari Chanchaga LGA of Niger state. Sani was shot dead by the police while sleeping at his friend’s tea stall.

    “Witnesses told Amnesty International that the killers of Sani were heavily drunk and went on a shooting spree in the community. Sani was buried today.

    “For decades, Nigeria police had been targeting youths with utter disregard for the rule of law. It is unacceptable that despite many pledges of reforms, the police in Nigeria continue to operate with complete impunity, while formenting a toxic climate of fear and corruption.”

    The police spokesman in the state, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, noting that it was reported to police and investigation was underway.

    “The Command received the complaint of the alleged shooting this morning, which was reported to have occurred at about 3 a.m. on 10th March 2025 at Angwan-Kaje area of Maitumbi, Minna.

    “The Commissioner of Police has directed the DPO Maitumbi to investigate and identify the team who allegedly committed such a heinous act for further necessary action.

    “Further development and action taken will be made known to the public in due course,” he stated.

    Police gives fresh update on abducted Benue varsity students

    The Benue State Police Command on Thursday confirmed the release of three female students who were kidnapped from Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University of Agriculture, Makurdi.

    The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in a news update shared on 𝕏 on Thursday also disclosed that  all three of the students have been released

    TheNewsGuru had earlier reported the abduction of the students while returning from a night study session on campus.

    In response to the incident, the university management had shut down activities, declaring a one-week mid-semester break to address the situation.

    This was communicated through an internal memo titled “Security Situation on Campus,” issued a day after the abduction and signed by the Registrar, Dr. John David.

    However, details surrounding their freedom have not yet been made public.

    Woman behind ‘fake’ testimony at Zion ministry, arrested

    The Nigerian police have arrested a woman identified as Helen Loveth Alo, who allegedly delivered a testimony at the Zion Prayer Movement Church.

    TheNewsGuru recalls that, a real estate firm, Roboconsult, exposed Loveth whose  claimed during her testimony that she purchased a N300m mansion.

    A Roboconsult staff member, Adedokun Olabisi, explained in a video that Loveth gained access to the property and falsely claimed ownership.

    She said, “She came with her agent and a prospective buyer, claiming that she knew someone interested in purchasing the building. We allowed her to inspect the property.

    “After touring the building, she requested that we give her some seconds to speak with the prospective client alone. We permitted her to speak privately for a few minutes. Unknown to us, she recorded a video of herself, falsely claiming that she had already paid 200 Million for the mansion and would pay up the remaining balance soon.”

    In the viral video, Loveth had declared, “I got this one. The house is two, but this is the one I chose. I have paid N200 million, and I will complete the balance in instalments. The house costs 300 million.’

    When confronted about her testimony at the Zion Prayer Movement Church, where she claimed she had bought a mansion, Loveth admitted that the house was not hers.

    “We are in the process of buying the house. I have inspected everything, but it is not mine yet,” she confessed.

    Olabisi further revealed that after Loveth left, Roboconsult verified her identity and confirmed she was the same person who had made a video at the property days earlier.

    Olabisi added, “In that video, she said a prophecy was given to her, which led to her acquiring the property.”

    Also speaking on the matter, the legal counsel for Roboconsult, Barrister C.P. Ogado, said, “If you have seen the video circulating on social media of a woman claiming she was prophesied to buy a house, the property is actually located in Enugu and is still available for sale.”

    “The house has not been sold, contrary to her statements. It still belongs to our client, Roboconsult Nigeria Limited. The woman in question is now in police custody and will be prosecuted accordingly. Those involved in misleading the public will also face legal action.”

    Roboconsult also shared footage of the property’s interior, reiterating that no such sale had taken place. “This is the exact building she claimed to have bought for N300 million. However, we have not recorded such a sale. Our client is still looking for potential buyers.”

    Ogado reiterated that the property is still owned by Roboconsult Ltd.

    26-year-old bike passenger crushed to death in Lagos

    A 26-year-old female passenger was on Monday crushed to death at the Ojo Barracks main gate along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Lagos State.

    TheNewsGuru reports that the tragic incident involved a Howo truck driven by one Kazeem Olashokumi and a red TVS motorcycle.

    The spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement disclosed that the motorcycle was heading from Mile 2 toward Iyana-Iba when the rider lost control.

    The female passenger fell off the motorcycle and was crushed under the rear tyre of the moving truck, dying instantly.

    Authorities have evacuated the victim’s body, while the truck, motorcycle, and driver have been taken to the police station for further investigation.

    The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has urged the Osun State government to suspend the polls, citing serious security threats hours before the scheduled local government elections in State.

    The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi in a statement disclosed that an intelligence reports indicated a high possibility of violence if the elections proceeded as planned.

    TheNewsGuru reports that Adejobi stated, “The Nigeria Police Force has received credible intelligence indicating a high likelihood of violence and significant security threats should the planned local government elections proceed in Osun State.

    “These reports gathered from joint intelligence gathering reveal that various groups, including political elements and other interested parties, are mobilising to instigate unrest, disrupt public peace, and undermine the democratic order.”

    Just In: Portable bows to pressure, surrenders to police

    Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has turned himself to the Lagos State Police Command days after he was declared wanted.

    He presented himself at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Yaba, marking a significant development in the case against him.

    Following his surrender, Portable is now being escorted to Ogun State, where he will be transferred into the custody of the local police.

    This comes after a surprising claim by the singer on Tuesday, in which he alleged that he was undergoing treatment for mental health issues at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Abeokuta, and even referred to himself as a “madman”.

    The singer’s claim of being a “madman” was part of a plea for leniency, directed at both the Nigerian public and the Ogun State Government, after he was officially declared a wanted person by the police.

    The wanted declaration stemmed from allegations that Portable had physically assaulted three staff members from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, specifically from the Ota Zonal Office.
