Why I froze my eggs – Tiwa Savage opens up

Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage has revealed that she has frozen her eggs to keep the option of having more children open in the future.

The Afrobeats star, who is a mother of one, made the disclosure during a candid interview with British media personality, Zeze Mills where she noted that she decided to take the step so that she would not be under pressure later in life if she chooses to expand her family.

The 42-year-old singer said she wished she had taken the decision much earlier and encouraged women, especially those in their 30s, to consider doing the same in order to have more control over their fertility.“Having my first child in my 30s was beautiful because I was more financially and emotionally stable. One advice I will give to women in their 30s is whether you want to have children or not, freeze your eggs. I wish I did it earlier, but I’ve done it now. I don’t know if I want more kids, but in case I do, I have that insurance, ” she said

Tiwa explained that many women do not realise their egg reserve can run out earlier than expected, and that could affect their chances of getting pregnant naturally.

“You could wake up at 36 and your egg reserve is done. Then that’s when you now decide you want to have kids. That’s why I’m now a big advocate for egg freezing,” she added.
