    NiMet to Nigerians: Prepare for cloudy, thundery activities Friday to Sunday

    The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted cloudy and thundery activities from Friday to Sunday across the country.

    NiMet`s weather outlook released on Thursday in Abuja predicted cloudy skies over the Northern region on Friday, with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Bauchi, Gombe, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Katsina, and Kaduna in the morning hours.

    According to the agency, there are prospects of isolated thunderstorms over Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, leaving other places in the northern region cloudy during the afternoon and evening period.

    “The north central region should be mainly cloudy with prospects of rain over parts of Plateau, Nassarawa, Benue and southern Abuja in the morning hours.

    “ Moderate rains are expected over parts of Niger, Kwara, Kogi and Abuja during the afternoon and evening period.

    “Cloudy morning is expected over the southern region with prospects of light rains over parts of Enugu, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers state,“ it said.

    The Agency forecast cloudy skies to prevail over the southern parts during the afternoon and evening period.

    According to NiMet, cloudy morning is expected over the northern region on Saturday, with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi and Kaduna.

    “The afternoon and evening period holds better prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Katsina, Kano and Bauchi.

    “ The north central region is expected to be cloudy in the morning hours. Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are expected over part of Plateau, Nassarawa and Abuja.

    “Cloudy skies are anticipated over the entire southern region throughout the forecast period,“ it said.

    The agency envisaged cloudy skies over the northern region on Sunday in the morning hours.

    It predicted isolated thunderstorms over parts of Adamawa and Taraba, leaving other parts of the north in cloudy condition in the afternoon and evening period.

    NiMet forecast the north central cities to be cloudy in the morning.

    It said there were better prospects of isolated rains over parts of Niger, Plateau and Abuja during the afternoon and evening.

    According to the agency, the southern states are expected to be cloudy during the morning hours.

    It said there were chances of isolated rains over parts of Cross River in the afternoon and evening period.

    The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted cloudy and thundery weather conditions from June 23 to June 25.

    NiMet`s weather outlook released on Monday in Abuja said the atmosphere was saturated for possible weather activity.

    According to the agency, cloudy condition however, dominates most parts of the country.

    “For Tuesday, cloudy morning is anticipated over the north with chances of few thunderstorms over Katsina, Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Bauchi, Gusau Kaduna and Zaria axis in the afternoon and evening periods.

    “The central cities are expected to be cloudy. However, patches of thunderstorms are probable over Minna in the morning.

    “Later in the day, light thunderstorms are envisaged over Jos, Abuja, Kwara and Minna.

    “ Over the south, intermittent rains are likely in the morning. As the day progresses, few thunderstorms are probable over the inland with chances of light thunderstorms and rains over the coasts.”

    NiMet predicted cloudy atmosphere over the north down to the central cities on Wednesday morning.

    It further predicted prospects of light thunderstorms over most places, especially Gusau, Gombe, Taraba, southern Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi, Mambila Plateau, Jos, Zaria Ilorin and Abuja in the afternoon/evening hours.

    According to the agency, cloudy mornings are likely over the inland, progressing into the day with few thunderstorms anticipated.

    NiMet forecast eastern parts of the coast to be cloudy in the morning with chances of few thunderstorms and rains over the western coast.

    It also envisages that patches of thunderstorms and rains are probable over most parts of the coast as the day progresses.

    “For Wednesday, thunderstorm is expected to prevail over the north throughout the day. However, cloudy conditions with spells of sunshine are likely over the eastern flank in the afternoon and evening hours.

    “ Thunderstorms are expected to dominate in the morning over central, few thunderstorms are likely over Abuja, Jos, and Minna in the afternoon.

    “Inland cities of the south are likely to be equally dominated by morning thunderstorms.

    “Later in the day, patches of thunderstorms are probable over the western inland while cloudy conditions are anticipated over the east,’’ it said.

    There are prospects of morning rains over the coast while light thunderstorms and rains are envisaged as the day progresses.

    The Nigerian Meteological Agency (NiMet) has predicted sunny and hazy conditions over Northern region with possibilities of isolated cases of thunderstorms over central region down to coastal cities.

    NiMet’s weather outlook released on Monday in Abuja forecast sunny and hazy conditions over the north throughout the forecast period on Tuesday.

    According to it, isolated thunderstorms are likely over Yola, Jos and Abuja during the afternoon/evening hours.

    “Southern states will experience morning thunderstorms over Lagos, Ijebu-Ode, Calabar and Yenegoa axis.

    “There are chances of isolated thunderstorms over the coastal belt, Enugu, Abakaliki and Obudu during the afternoon/evening hours,” it said.

    NiMet envisaged sunny and hazy atmosphere over northern parts of the country on Wednesday with partly cloudy to sunny conditions over central cities in the morning hours with chances of isolated thunderstorm during evening hours.

    It predicted partly cloudy to cloudy conditions over the inland in the morning with chances of thunderstorms during the afternoon/evening hours.

    “Lagos is to experience thunderstorms in the morning hours with more prospects of thunderstorms over the coast during the afternoon/evening period,” it said.

    The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted reduction in horizontal visibility over most parts of the country with thick dust haze expected over the northern region.

    The NiMet’s waether outlook released on Saturday in Abuja further predicted dust haze condition in Central region with horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5km within the period of forecast.

    “For northern states, thick dust haze condition is expected over the region within forecast period with day and night temperatures of 30 degree Celsius to 35 degree Celsius and 11degree Celsius to 19 degree Celsius.

    “For central states, dust haze condition is anticipated over the region with horizontal visibility of 2km to 5km and localized visibility of less than 1000m within the forecast period.

    “Day and night temperatures of the region are expected to be from 28 degree Celsius to 36 degree Celsiue and form 11 degree Celsius to 23 degree Celsius respectively,” it said.

    According to NiMet moderate dust haze condition is expected over southern states inland cities with localized visibility of less than 1000m throughout forecast period while haziness is anticipated over coastal belt throughout forecast period.

    It envisaged day and night temperatures of the region to be 30 degree Celsius to 39 degree Celsius and 16 degree Celsius to 24 degree Celsius respectively.

    NiMet warns disaster managers to prepare for excess rainfall events

    Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), has warned disaster managers in the country to fully prepare for possible high-intensity rainfall events in 2020.

    NiMet gave the advice in its 2020 Seasonal Rainfall Prediction (SRP), released in Abuja on Friday.

    “A normal rainfall amount is anticipated over most parts of the country in year 2020. It is, therefore, essential for disaster managers to prepare for possible excess run-off that may arise from high amount of rainfall.

    “The pre-seasonal, Intra-seasonal and en-of-season high-intensity rainfall events in terms of wind force and the amount often lead to weather-related hazards such as damages to infrastructure and valuable resources.

    “It also displaces people, has health-related risks from pollutants aided by wind and flood waters, including loss of human lives,” it said.

    According to the agency, above normal rainfall poses a threat to the environment due to its associated excess run-off.

    “ However, normal to below normal rainfall could still pose threats due to natural factors like high-intensity short-duration rainfall resulting in flash floods and environmental factors such as drainage and water channels blockages,” it said.

    On food security, the agency maintained that extended period of dry and severe little dry season could impact negatively on the food security of the nation due to shortage of available soil moisture.

    NiMet predicted rising temperatures over the country from January to April.

    It further predicted that areas warmer than normal temperature would be susceptible to heat-related epidemics such as measles, meningitis, heat stroke and cholera which could become a disaster if not monitored.

    “The 2020 Seasonal Rainfall Prediction in conjunction with all available products from NiMet provides a rich resource base for policy makers, the general public, environment and disaster managers among others.

    “Making weather and climate-informed decisions that will avert potential hazards and save lives and properties will save cost and improve the socio-economic lives of the populace,” the agency added.

    The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted Sunny and hazy conditions to prevail across the country for Monday.

    NiMet’s weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja predicted sunny and hazy conditions over the northern region.

    According to the agency, day and night temperatures of the region is expected to be from 32 degree Celsius to 33 degree Celsius and 12 degree Celsius to 17 degree Celsius respectively.

    ”For central states, hazy condition is anticipated over the entire region
    throughout forecast period with day and night temperatures to be fron 35 dgree Celsius to 37 degree Celsius and 15 degree Celsius to 18 degree Celsius.

    ”For southern states, hazy condition is expected over inland cities with early morning mist and fog patches are likely over coastal cities with slim
    chances of afternoon/evening thunderstorms over Calabar and Eket axis.

    “Day and night temperatures of the region is expected to be from 35 degree Celsius to 38 degree Celsius and 18 degree Ceksius to 23 degree Celsius,” it said.

    The Nigeria Meteorology Agency (NiMet), has predicted thunderstorms and rains for Saturday.

    NiMet’s weather outlook on Friday in Abuja predicted partly cloudy to cloudy condition over the Northern states with day and night temperatures of 31 to 40 degree Celsius and 19 to 24 degree Celsius respectively.

    “For central states, partly cloudy to cloudy morning is anticipated over the region with chances of thunderstorms over Yola and Taraba axis in the morning hours.

    “Later in the day, there are prospects of thunderstorm over the region with day and night temperatures of 27 to 32 degree Celsius and 16 to 24 degree Celsius respectively,” it said.

    According to it, cloudy condition is expected over south west inland and coast while thunderstorms and rains are anticipated over the south east inland and coast in the morning hours.

    NiMet forecasts thunderstorms and rains over the region in the afternoon/evening hours with day and night temperatures of 30 to 32 degree Celsius and 20 to 23 degree Celsius.

    The Nigerian Metrorilogical Agency (NiMet) has predicted thunderstorms and rains across the country for Monday.

    NiMet’s weather oulook on Sunday in Abuja predicted partly cloudy conditions over Northern states in the morning hours.

    It further predicted moderate rains accompanied by thunder over some parts of Sokoto, Maiduguri, Yobe and Kano states as the day progressed.

    According to it, day and night temperatures of the region are expected to be 30 to 34 degree Celsius and 21 to 24 degree Celcius respectively.

    “For Central states, cloudy morning is likely with prospects of slight thunderstorms in some parts of Adamawa, Taraba and Benue states.

    “Later in the day, there are chances of more rains accompanied by thunder across most places within the region.

    “Day and night temperatures are expected to be 26 to 33 degree Celsius and 17 to 24 degree Celsius respectively.”

    The agency envisaged cloudy morning over Southern states with chances of slight rains over Obudu, Ikom and Calabar axis in the morning hours.

    It focast widespread thunderstorms/rains in the afternoon/evening hours in the region with day and night temperatures of 29 to 32 degree Celsius and 20 to 24 degree Celsius respectively.

    NiMet’s weather outlook on Thursday in Abuja predicted partly cloudy condition with chances of thunderstorms over Yelwa and Kano of Northern states in the morning period.

    It further predicted partly cloudy condition over the entire region leaving slim chances of thunderstorms over Maiduguri with day and night temperatures of 33 to 35 degree Celsius and 23 to 25 degree Celsius.

    ” For Central states, partly cloudy morning is expected with chances of thunderstorms over Abuja, Makurdi, Lokoja and Ilorin.

    ” In the afternoon/evening period, thunderstorms are expected over Abuja, Jos, Yola, Jalingo, Lokoja, Makurdi and Mambilla-Plateau.

    “Day and night temperature values are expected to be 27 to 33 degree Celsius and 18 to 24 degree Celsius.

    It forecast thunderstorms over the Sourhetn states in the morning hour of leaving cloudiness over most parts of the region later in the day,” it said.

    According to the agency, day and night temperatures of the region are expected to be 30 to 33 degree Celsius and 21- 23 Celsius respectively.

    “For Central states, cloudy conditions are anticipated with prospect of thunderstorms/rain over Mambila Plateau and Ilorin axis in the morning period.

    “Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected to prevail over the region with day and night temperatures of 28 to 33 degree Celsius and 17 to 25 respectively,” it said.

    It envisaged cloudy condition over the Suothern states in the morning with thunderstorms and rains over the entire region later in the day.

    “Day and Night temperatures are expected to be in the range of 28 to 32 degree Celsius and 21 to 23 degree Celsius respectively,” it said.
