    The Nigerian Meteorological Agency NiMet has predicted haziness from Friday to Sunday across the country.

    NiMet’s Weather outlook released on Thursday in Abuja envisaged moderate dust haze in the North and North Central region on Friday.

    “With prospects of thick dust haze resulting in visibility of less or equal to 1000m over parts of Zamfara, Kano, Katsina, Yobe, Kaduna, Borno, and Jigawa  throughout the forecast period.

    ”In the southern parts of the country, cloudy skies with spells of sunshine are anticipated with prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa and Rivers  in the afternoon/evening period.

    “For Saturday, moderate dust haze is expected over the Northern region throughout the forecast period.

    In the North Central region, slight dust haze is anticipated in the morning and afternoon/evening period,” it said

    It envisaged cloudy skies with spells of sunshine  over the region in the southern region and thunderstorms expected over Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and Delta.

    According to NiMet, slight dust haze is anticipated over the North and the North Central region throughout the forecast period in the South on Sunday.

    It anticipated cloudy skies with spells of sunshine during the forecast period with prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Lagos, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom later in the day.

    “Particles are in suspension, public should take necessary precaution. People with asthmatic health condition and other respiratory issues should be cautious of the present weather condition.

    “Strong winds may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur, public should take adequate precaution. Adhere to safety advisories issued by relevant authorities.

    “Airline operators are advised to get airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from

    NiMet for effective planning in their operations,” it said.

    NiMet’s Weather outlook released on Saturday in Abuja, envisaged moderate dust haze on Sunday with horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5km over the northern and north central regions of the country.

    ”With localised visibilities of less than or equal to 1km expected over parts of Yobe, Kano, Katsina, Gombe, Bauchi, Kaduna, Jigawa and Niger.

    ”However, parts of Kogi, Kwara and Benue will experience a few clouds in a hazy atmosphere.

    “In the southern parts of the country, cloudy skies with spells of sunshine are expected over the entire region with prospects of afternoon or evening,” it said.

    According to NiMet, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Ondo, Edo and Delta.

    The agency predicted moderate dust haze on Monday with a horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5km over the northern and North Central region of the country.

    “However parts of Kogi, Kwara and Benue will experience a few clouds in a hazy atmosphere.

    ”In the southern region, cloudy skies with spells of sunshine are expected over entire region with prospects of afternoon or evening thunderstorms are expected over parts of Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta,” it said.

    According to NiMet, moderate dust haze with horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5km is anticipated over the northern and North Central region of the country on Tuesday.

    It anticipated a horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5km over parts of Sokoto, Katsina, Kebbi, Kano, Jigawa, Zamfara, Kaduna, Niger and Kogi States.

    ”While the rest of the North, the North Central and Inland cities of the South are expected to experience slight dust haze in good visibility throughout the forecast period.

    “Hazy atmosphere with patches of clouds is expected over the coastal parts of the South with chances of afternoon or evening rains over Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Lagos States,” it said.

    According to NiMet, moderate dust haze with horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5km is expected over parts of Sokoto, Katsina, Kebbi, Kano, Jigawa, Zamfara and Kaduna States on Sunday.

    The agency predicted the rest of the North, the North Central and Inland cities of the South to experience slight dust haze in good visibility throughout the forecast period.

    It anticipated early morning mist or fog over the coastal regions of the South with the rest of the day to experience a hazy atmosphere with patches of clouds.

    “For Monday, moderate dust haze with horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5km is expected over the North and North Central parts of the country throughout the forecast period.

    “The Inland cities of the South is expected to experience slight dust haze in good visibility throughout the forecast period while the coastal cities of the South is expected to experience a few patches of clouds in hazy atmosphere with prospects of early morning mist of fog.

    “Dust particles are in suspension, public should take necessary precaution. People with asthmatic health conditions and other respiratory issues should be cautious of the present weather condition,” it said.

    “For Tuesday, in the northern region, thick dust haze is expected throughout the forecast period. The North central region should be in moderate dust haze with visibility range of 1km to 3km throughout the forecast period.

    “In the southern parts of the country, early morning mist or fog are anticipated over the coastal cities while moderate dust Haze with visibility range of 1km to 3km is expected during the forecast period,” it said.

    According to NiMet, thick dust haze is expected throughout the forecast period in the northern region on Wednesday.

    In a weather outlook released on Thursday in Abuja, NiMet indicated that moderate dust haze is expected in the northern regions on Friday, with visibility levels between 2km and 5km. There are also predictions of localized visibility dropping below 1,000 meters during this time.

    The North-central states are likely to see slight dust haze, whereas the southern regions will experience moderate dust haze with similar visibility conditions of 2km to 5km throughout the forecast period.

    On Saturday, NiMet anticipates thicker dust haze in the north, with visibility remaining in the range of 2km to 5km and localized visibility falling below 1,000 meters. Meanwhile, the southern region will continue to experience slight dust haze.

    NiMet predicts states prone to flooding in coming days [ SEE LIST]

    The Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted that Kogi, Edo, Borno, Bayelsa and eight other States are prone to flooding in the coming days.

    The agency, in its latest weather alert for moderate to heavy rainfall, stated that there are high prospects of flooding as a result of the expected moderate to heavy rainfall from 20th September, 2024.

    The States prone to flooding in the coming days are; Borno, most of Adamawa, Taraba, Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, Edo, Delta, Anambra, Bayelsa, Cross River and Rivers states.

    The agency advised that the States to ensure access to clean drinking water and stock up on essential supplies.

    The prediction reads: “There is high possibility, in the next 7 days, to release water from Lagdo Dams as the document released from Ministry of Water Resources stated.

    “Consequently, runoff-water over the catchment areas will increase, coupled with moderate to heavy rainfall expected.

    “The streams along the path of the runoff-water release could also overflow it boundaries causing flooding, as we already have saturated soil moisture.

    “The places flagged for expected flooding are Borno, most of Adamawa, Taraba, Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, Edo, Delta, Anambra, Bayelsa, Cross River and Rivers states”.

    NiMet advised residents in flood-prone areas to prepare for possible evacuation, identify higher ground or designated shelters in advance, refrain from crossing or driving through flooded areas, as water levels is expected to rise quickly and relocate valuable belongings and livestock to safer locations, and fortify structures

    NiMet`s weather outlook released on Monday in Abuja forecast thunderstorms over parts of Bauchi, Kebbi, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, Adamawa and Kaduna states during the morning hours on Tuesday.

    According to the agency, thunderstorms are expected over the entire region later in the day.

    “In the North Central region, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Kogi, Benue, Plateau, Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa and Niger states during the morning hours.

    “Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, Niger, Kogi, Plateau, Benue and Nasarawa states.

    “In the southern region, there are prospects of moderate rains over parts of Ebonyi, Imo, Enugu, Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers and Bayelsa states during the morning hours.

    “Later in the day, intermittent rains are expected over the entire region,” it said.

    The agency envisaged thunderstorms over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Katsina, Kano and Kaduna states in the Wednesday `s morning hours.

    According to NiMet, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Borno, Gombe, Adamawa, Taraba, Kano, Katsina and Kebbi states later in the day.

    “In the North Central region, there are prospects of thunderstorms over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, Niger and Kwara states during the morning hours.

    “While in the afternoon into evening hours, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Nasarawa, Kogi, Federal Capital Territory, Kwara and Niger states .

    “In the southern region, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, Enugu, Imo, Edo, Cross River, Delta, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa states during the morning hours.

    “Progressing into the afternoon and evening hours, thunderstorms are envisaged over the entire region,” it said.

    NiMet anticipated thunderstorms over parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Taraba and Adamawa States in the Thursday`s morning period.

    The agency predicted thunderstorms over parts of Borno, Bauchi, Kaduna, Taraba and Adamawa states later in the day while thunderstorms are expected over parts of Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory.

    “In the southern region, isolated thunderstorms are expected over parts of Osun, Edo, Ondo, Ekiti, Delta, Lagos, Rivers and Bayelsa states in the morning hours,” it said.

    NiMet urged residents to avoid flood-prone areas as high likelihood of urban flooding in major cities due to heavy downpours.

    It advised public to take adequate precautions as strong winds might precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur.

    “Adhere to safety advisories issued by relevant authorities. Public and Airline operators are advised to get updated weather reports and forecast from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.
