A church known as Ogbanje church of All Nations opened for service in the Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Recently, members of the church had their first worship service at the church, and they sang series of songs praising the names of popular river goddesses in Nnewi.

In a viral video online, members of the church were seen rejoicing and dancing to the tune of songs composed in praise of goddesses of some popular rivers in Nnewi.

While addressing the congregation at the uncompleted building, the cleric, presiding over the service, advised the congregation to worship what they know, rather than what they don’t know.

The cleric who didnt mention his name and spoke in Igbo said people had used the names of Bethsaida, Jericho, Samaria, and some other biblical locations to compose songs without knowing the meaning of those locations.

Thereafter, the church continued to sing songs in reverence to the Ogbanje, while the church members cheerfully dance around in joy.

He said, “People usually sing and dance to songs composed with names and places in the Bible while they do not actually know who, what, or where they are and what they represent. It is high time we started going back to our culture and tradition.

“People should start singing songs composed with names of rivers that are known to them and the goddesses of those rivers, rather than singing and dancing to the names of what they don’t know.”

Together with the congregation, he mentioned some names of rivers and some river goddesses in the area including Obò River, Mmiri Ele, Orasò River, Mmiri Edo, Ofala River, Ota, and Ezu River, among others.

Why I resigned to support polygamy – Nnewi Anglican Priest

An Anglican priest of the Nnewi Diocese in Anambra State, Rev. Ogbuchukwu Lotanna, has explained why he quit the priesthood to support polygamy.

Lotanna said he received a divine mandate to float a movement in support of polygamy.

According to him: “Contrary to what is generally being preached, polygamy is not a sin. What God hates is the divorce of any type, sleeping with another man’s wife, and sleeping with someone that is not someone’s wife.

“God desired men to even marry more than one wife, instead of going for someone’s wife or ladies they were not married to.”

Regretting that the church had hidden the information from members for a long time, the cleric stressed it was time people were told the truth.

He encouraged men to marry their ‘side chicks’ to escape hell fire, maintaining that the only thing wrong with polygamy was to stay in a church that was against the practice “because two cannot work unless they agree.”

He also disclosed that his new movement would be called “Gideonites”, while the place of worship would be called “Gideonites’ Temple”.

“It is obvious that the church, especially the Anglican Church, has been teaching against the concept of polygamy, but the Lord has opened my eyes to the reality that polygamy is not a sin,” he added.

His colleagues home and abroad expressed shock at Lotanna’s action, saying that they never expected such while calling for Prayers for him to retrace his steps back to God.

Photo: Housewife escapes death as two storey building under construction collapses into her compound in Nnewi

    From Chuks Collins, Awka

A middle-aged Nnewi housewife, Mrs Gladys Ojukwu, early morning Tuesday, August 31,2021 escaped being crushed by a 2-storey building under construction which collapsed from an adjoining compound next to hers.

A substantial part of the building which has been a subject of legal dispute between the owner(Chief Benjamin Okeke) and the family of Comrade Clement Ojukwu(husband to Gladys), both who were said to be cousins, crumbled at about 745am Tuesday morning when everyone in the neighborhood were said to be getting set to go out for the day’s businesses.

According to Comrade Ojukwu, “I left home at about 07.15am this morning. But about 40 minutes later I got an urgent call from one of my neighbors, Mr Samuel Ejizu for me to rush back home immediately. That the new multi-storey building beside my house which was under construction had collapsed.

“ Sounding hysterically disturbed, Mr Ejizu said that no one knows whether my wife who was cooking in the family kitchen when I left was trapped under the debris.

“I told him to please mobilize people to assist in searching and ascertain that my wife was safe, before I rushed back home from where I had gone to. I was elated when she called me about five minutes later informing me of how she narrowly escaped death as the building under construction in the next compound collapsed.

“Sadly, the owner of the building is a brother and friend, Benjamin Okeke(popularly called Benjy Japan). I had in the progress of the construction called and intimated him that it was not only close to my house but that it was dangerously transversing into my compound/building.

“His response was that his father told him that one talks about boundary on the ground, not up or in the air. And that on the strength of that he knows not what am saying. So as he continued with the project, finished the first decking, and started the second, I was forced to go to court to stop him.

“That is the stage where we were when this happened today, …”, he pointed out.

When effort was made to speak to Okeke, whose mansion was in the neighborhood on the Benjy Okeke Street, he was said to be on the run. That no one has seen him since the unfortunate incident occurred earlier in the morning.

It was also argued by onlookers and neighbors to ascertain whether any of the laborers who had reported for work for the day was not trapped under the rubbles.

Also, from the mangled structure, it could be seen that there was no proper design, building lacks approved plan, quality/adequate materials, qualified site engineer and other personnel..

Efforts were still being intensified to get the reaction of the Anambra State Maternal testing unit of the Ministry of Works /Housing as at the time of filing this report.

The collapsed structure destroyed a wing of Ojukwu’s house, caused extensive damages to three of his big generating sets, including one heavy duty Perkins generating set, about three motorcycles, two gas cookers with oven, kitchen unit, deep freezers, refrigerators assorted choice China plates and others
