  • I will carefully weigh options on my next political home – Expelled lawmaker, Jibrin

I will carefully weigh options on my next political home – Expelled lawmaker, Jibrin

The lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji constituency in the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has reacted to his expulsion from the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP).

The party had on Saturday, through its Kano state Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, announced Jibrin’s suspension over what it described as anti- party activities and failure to meet financial obligations.

Dungurawa also threatened that the party would take the expelled lawmaker to court if he fails to settle his outstanding dues.

But responding in a statement he personally signed on Saturday, Jibrin asked the party to send him the outstanding dues invoice.

He said, “It came as a surprise and a rude shock, my sudden expulsion from the NNPP. I strongly believe the contents of the interview I granted few days ago in English and Hausa should not warrant such heavy penalty because it is in tandem with the core principles of our party and movement which allows for dissenting views overtly or covertly.

“I expected the party to pick lessons from the interview. For the purpose of emphasis, I stand by all the statements I made in the interviews.

“No invitation was extended to me to defend or explain myself by any organ of the party and in the process, neglecting the very important principle of fair hearing, due process and justice that the NNPP cry out loud and demand from others.

“Even under military dictatorship, an accused is subjected to a court martial. Perhaps, if the appropriate processes were followed, the need for such harsh decision to force me out of a party and family I love so dearly may not be necessary.

“While, I would have loved to stay in the NNPP and continue my service to our people and country despite differences on some issues (which I will address elaborately in due course to avoid people being mislead), the party has made and announced a decision. I am therefore obliged to accept the decision of the party in good faith and without grudges.

“But for the respect I have for the party, its members and leaders, I would have viewed this action as null and void as it failed to follow due process or coming from a factional group of the party and test it in court. I will rather wish the party well and go in peace. I beg the party to allow me also go in peace.

“On the issue of non-payment of my dues, I am appealing to the party that there is no need to go to court as I have never refused to pay my dues. I respectfully request the party to send me the invoice and I will promptly pay. I have always advocated for harmonious relationships in Kano and Nigeria, so I am appealing to NNPP to stay on the part of decorum without personal attacks or throwing abuses and insults as we part ways. For me, relationship will continue irrespective of party affiliation,” Jibrin added.

He also thanked the party for the support he enjoyed during his stay, while calling on his supporters to join him in his next political journey to be unveiled soon.

“I welcome all my supporters who wish to join me in my new journey. But for those who chose to remain in NNPP, I hold no grudges against them and I look forward to keeping a peaceful and harmonious relationship with them both at the local, state and national levels.”

“Finally, I will carefully weigh all the options before me as I decide on my next political home. SO HELP ME GOD,” he concluded.

  • NNPP expels Rep member over alleged anti-party activities

NNPP expels Rep member over alleged anti-party activities

The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled a member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin-Kofa, over alleged anti-party activities.

The State Chairman of NNPP, Hashim Sulaiman-Dungurawa, announced this on Saturday while briefing newsmen in Kano.

He said the decision followed Jibrin-Kofa’s repeated media outbursts against the party and its leadership.

He described the lawmaker as a “weak politician” whose electoral success was only made possible through the Kwankwasiyya movement and NNPP platform, not personal strength.

“If he is truly strong politically, he would have won his election on APC platform, but he failed.

“It was when he joined NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he became a House of Reps member. Now he is deceiving himself thinking he is strong,” he said.

He noted that a reconciliation committee had initially been set up to engage Jibrin-Kofa after his interview on Channels Television, but said a subsequent media outing proved he had “crossed the line.”

“Instead of dialogue, he went further to work against our interest, openly declaring loyalty outside the party. That is why we expelled him. He has no value to add,” the chairman said.
Sulaiman-Dungurawa further accused Jibrin-Kofa of defaulting in the payment of mandatory party dues, vowing that NNPP would institute legal action to recover the funds.

“We will drag him to court to recover what he owes the party. It is a constitutional requirement for every member to pay dues, but he has consistently failed to do so,” he said.

On speculations that Jibrin-Kofa may return to the APC, the chairman said such move would not affect NNPP’s strength.

“Politics is about groups and coalitions, and Kwankwasiyya remains solidly behind our leader, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso,” he added.

  • I am not leaving NNPP – Kwankwaso

I am not leaving NNPP – Kwankwaso

The Natonal Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, has maintained that he has no plans to defect to another political party.

Making the clarification at the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Thursday, Kwankwaso said the NNPP was performing well in Kano and other states, adding, “we are very happy about that.”

He acknowledged that many people attended the meeting to hear from him following recent fake news reports that he would be making a critical decision about his future with the NNPP.

“But let me take this opportunity to tell you that we have our party, and we are comfortable. We are happy. We are ready to do whatever it takes because we are not in a hurry,” he said.

Kwankwaso emphasised that any negotiation regarding 2027 general election would be a collective decision, as he believed in party supremacy.

“If there will be any negotiation, it will be collective. It will not be only for the negotiators but for the entire members of this NNPP family.

“The fact remains that there is nobody in Kwankwasia today that I know, or even in NNPP, who is saying that, ‘yes, I want to go,” he said.

He advised party members not to be swayed by the hype of politicians defecting to any party.

“Those people don’t understand, and they don’t have much experience. They believe that they know when they actually don’t know.

“Even if they are interested in knowing, I think they should come and ask one of us,” he said.

Kwankwaso recalled how he lost the 2003 governorship election in Kano, even as a sitting governor, due to public support for the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

He noted that he returned to power eight years later, calling it a “good lesson for everybody.”

He said that Nigerians had already made up their minds about the 2027 general election, adding that “reality will determine the people’s votes.”

In his remarks, the party’s National Chairman, Dr Ajuji Ahmed, said the NNPP was “the beautiful bride of Nigerian politics and democracy,” waxing strong as the country heads towards the 2027 elections.

Ahmed urged eligible citizens to register for their permanent voter cards.

Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State, represented by his deputy, Aminu Gwarzo, said despite all plots against the NNPP, the party was progressing under Kwankwaso’s leadership.

He claimed the party won the two recent by-elections in Kano but was robbed of the victory, expressing confidence that the mandate would be reclaimed.

The NNPP’s 2023 Vice Presidential candidate, Bishop Isaac Idahosa, affirmed the party’s readiness for victory in 2027, noting that it was gaining a “focused direction” under Kwankwaso’s leadership.

Highlights of the event included the appointments of caretaker committees for Kogi, Gombe, Taraba, and Jigawa states and the extension of the Lagos State chairman’s tenure.

Attendees included NEC-elected political officers on the NNPP platform and an INEC observer team.

  • NNPP writes INEC, demands stoppage of elections

NNPP writes INEC, demands stoppage of elections

Mr Ndubuisi Ukpai esq, counsel for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has written to INEC, demanding that the commission must stop all elections until its authentic logo is included in ballot papers  for future elections.

This is contained in the letter made available to the media by the party on Wednesday in Lagos.

The letter, dated Aug. 25 and addressed to the INEC Chairman, was titled;: “RE: SUIT NO.: CV/3210/2025; New Nigeria Peoples Party VS Independent National Electoral Commission: Continued Representation of the Authentic Leadership of the NNPP and the Need To Maintain Status Quo Pending Determination of the Suit for Judicial Review”.

It stated that INEC should refrain from  conducting  all elections until it reflected the true and correct logo of the NNPP and participation of the party under the leadership of Dr Major Agbo as National Chairman.

“We remain counsel to the authentic leadership of the NNPP, under the national chairmanship of Agbo, and write at their instance.

“You will recall our previous correspondence, wherein we drew the commission’s attention to the imperative of strict compliance with subsisting judgments of competent courts, affirming the authentic leadership of the NNPP.

“Regrettably, in the face of INEC’s continued reluctance to give effect to the said judgments, our client was constrained to institute judicial review proceedings against the commission.”

According to the party, Pursuant to the said action, on Aug. 15, 2025, the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory graciously granted our client leave to bring an application for an order of mandamus, compelling INEC’s compliance.

“Consequent upon this, an Originating Motion on Notice had been duly filed and served on the commission.

“May we respectfully remind the commission that upon the grant of leave in judicial review proceedings, the law imposes a duty to maintain the status quo and refrain from taking steps capable of rendering the substantive proceedings nugatory.

“As was held in Governor of Lagos State v. Ojukwu (1986) 1 NWLR (Pt. 18) 621, no party, and least of all a public institution, is permitted to take the law into its own hands or foist a fait accompli on the court.

“To do otherwise is to court judicial reproach and expose responsible officers to personal consequences for contempt of court.”

The NNPP also demanded that INEC must cease and desist from according any recognition,, whatsoever to the expelled members of the party, purporting to be leaders of the NNPP under one Dr Ajuji Ahmed.

It also stated that INEC must stop actions that might prejudice or compromise pending proceedings, in line with express duty imposed on all authorities under Section 287(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) to enforce and give effect to decisions of the courts.

“It has further come to our client’s knowledge that the expelled members have issued a notice, purporting to convene a so-called National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Thursday, Aug. 28.

“We must make it abundantly clear that any such purported meeting is unlawful, null, and void, being in flagrant violation of binding judicial pronouncements.

“We, therefore, urge in the strongest terms, that INEC must not attend, monitor, observe, or lend any form of recognition to such an illegal gathering.

“To do so would amount to clear interference in a matter sub judice and a direct affront to the authority of the court. This correspondence is issued to place the commission on the path of legality and to forestall the necessity of further legal recourse against it.

“We trust, therefore, that INEC will act with the institutional circumspection and fidelity to the rule of law that the Constitution demands,” it added.

BREAKING: APC, NNPP share ‘spoils’ of Kano by-elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) have shared the spoils of the by-elections conducted in Kano State on Saturday.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted the by-elections for the Ghari/Tsanyawa and Shanono/Bagwai constituencies.

While Garba Ya’u Gwarmai of the APC won the Ghari/Tsanyawa constituency, NEC announced Ali Lawal Alhassan of the NNPP won Shanono/Bagwai constituency.

The results of the by-elections showed that NNPP received a total of 16,198 votes and APC received 5,347 votes in Shanono/Bagwai. However, in Ghari/Tsanyawa, APC received a total of 31,472 votes, while NNPP got 27,931 votes.

NNPP reacts over conduct of by-elections in Kano

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has commended INEC and security agencies for ensuring credible by-elections in Shanono/Bagwai and Ghari constituencies, Kano State.

NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, on Saturday in Abuja also praised Kano residents for allowing a transparent voting exercise during the by-elections.

He, however, condemned the call for cancellation of the two elections.

Johnson described the cancellation call, allegedly over violence, credited to All Progressives Congress (APC) spokesman Felix Morka, as frivolous and devoid of facts and reality.

He maintained that Morka’s position did not reflect actual events, stressing that the NNPP candidate won overwhelmingly, as duly declared by INEC.

Johnson stated that the two constituency elections were free, fair, credible and peaceful, adding that as NNPP strongholds, the results could not have been otherwise.

“We must state unequivocally that there were no widespread irregularities during the election, contrary to the misleading narrative being peddled by the APC,” Johnson declared.

He added that Kano remained the NNPP stronghold, making it inconceivable that the APC could have won, as electoral history and outcomes in recent times proved otherwise.

“The results have now been validated by the INEC commissioner, who adjudged them free, fair, credible, and validly won by NNPP candidates,” Johnson emphasised.

He commended Kano people for resisting nefarious activities during the elections.

“The NNPP salutes the patriotism of INEC officials and security agencies for demonstrating professionalism and courage throughout the exercise,” Johnson said.

He added that both INEC and the Police in Kano attested to the credibility of the by-election, which went smoothly without violence.

“NNPP therefore urges Nigerians and the international community to disregard any claim of violence in today’s by-election in Kano State,” Johnson said.

  • NNPP laments over INEC’s delay in uploading list of current national executive

NNPP laments over INEC’s delay in uploading list of current national executive

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has decried the delay by INEC in uploading the list of its new leadership on the commission’s website.

The NNPP noted that the delay had also affected its smooth operations nationwide, especially in the build up to some state and other elections.

This is contained in a statement by NNPP’s National Secretary, Mr Ogini Olaposi on Friday.

The NNPP described INEC’s refusal to comply with Court orders on new executive of the NNPP as disappointing .

“The NNPP is gravely concerned and utterly disappointed by  INEC ‘s delay in  complying with binding judicial pronouncements that unequivocally recognised Dr Agbo Major as the authentic National Chairman of our great party and Olaposi as our national secretary.

“This marks the third reminder  from us  to INEC, despite the commission’s active participation in the legal proceedings culminating in the judgment of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory delivered on April 3, 2025 (Suit No: FCT/HC/CV/5518/2024).

“This judgment remains valid and binding, including that of Abia State High Court.

“INEC:s delay undermines the integrity of our constitutional democracy and rule of law, especially when the convention ordered by court that led to the emergence of the new NNPP executive held in  March.

“INEC’s persistent delays is an administrative negligence that is frustrating our party from fully participating in future electoral processes,” the party stated.

According to the party, the lack of clarity by the commission is the reason why some expelled members are still claiming leadership of the NNPP.

“The expelled members are using INEC’s lapses to weaken our party, knowing the party’s rising popularity and strong grassroots support across Nigeria.

“This is a dangerous assault on the Constitution, the judiciary, and the democratic rights of millions of Nigerians.

” The commission’s actions threaten to plunge the nation further into political instability by reducing confidence in it as  the electoral umpire.”

According to the party, the worst scenario is that the expelled members have used the NNPP  platform as an avenue for unfounded allegations against the current administration, which is capable of instigating unrest.

“We have not forgotten the allegation that the Federal Government was marginalising the North in infrastructure, levelled against  President Bola Tinubu by our expelled 2023 presidential candidate, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso.

“So many issues abound where Kwankwaso and members of his Kwankwasiya movement,  whose MoU with NNPP was cancelled after the presidential elections, still make unguarded utterances against the government,  claiming to speak as our members.

“We have had to issue statements, rejecting those positions but we think INEC stands to make the issue simple by doing the needful as an unbiased umpire.

“We recall our letters,  dated April 11 and April 14 2025, and our latest final reminder,  on  July 30 2025 to the commission, yet it continues its delay.”

According to the party, Nigerians and the international community are now watching closely to see how far INEC is willing to go on this matter, which is clearly denying the NNPP opportunities to participate in elections nationwide.

“Let it be known that the NNPP will not be silenced, cowed, or intimidated.

“We will deploy every constitutional means, including contempt proceedings and other coercive legal measures, to ensure that INEC obeyed the law.

“The NNPP remains resolute that the rule of law will ultimately prevail over the machinations of those afraid of the our growing strength and popularity.

“Democracy cannot survive in Nigeria if those charged with protecting it continue to undermine honour and integrity.

“Enough is enough. Nigerians deserve better, and we shall not relent in defending the integrity of our party and the sanctity of our democracy.”

  • 2027: INEC must update, upload our authentic party leadership records now – NNPP

2027: INEC must update, upload our authentic party leadership records now – NNPP

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) says INEC will save Nigerians future regrets if it updates records of political parties and its authentic leaderships ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This is contained in a statement by Dr Ogini Olaposi, NNPP National Secretary on Wednesday, in Lagos.

The party said that controversy had already begun over authentic leaderships of political parties recognised by INEC.

“As the political umpire, INEC must be seen to do the right thing and save Nigerians from issues that may arise from a heated polity.

“Let those aspiring to political offices know the leaderships. There is no gain for democracy from prolonged and unnecessary litigations,” the party stated.

According to the party, INEC must be held accountable if it allows political charades that will enable undeserving persons to hijack parties or cause chaos in the polity.

The party explained that the delay of INEC in updating the NNPP current leadership on its website has led to many questions from members.

“Questions are beginning to mount over the troubling silence and inaction of INEC in the face of clear, binding court judgments affirming the new leadership of the NNPP under Dr Agbo Major and the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) led by Dr Boniface Aniebonam.

“On Nov.1, 2024, the Abia State High Court issued a decisive judgment recognising the BoT as the lawful authority in NNPP.

“INEC has yet to reflect the leadership change, despite being duly served and made a party to the suits.

“Even a subsequent ruling by the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja that reaffirmed the Abia Court’s decision—yet INEC is yet to comply.

“The delay in obeying a court order is not just administrative negligence; it hints at systemic sabotage,” the party stated.

It noted that the commission must not leave Nigerians with doubts about which party and which leadership to be part of in the build up to the general elections.

“The moment INEC updates and recognises the authentic leaderships of parties, the cards of those misleading the populace will collapse.

“There is a lot of political schemings going on across parties that must be stopped to give the right people the opportunity to emerge on the right platforms.

“Nigeria is not a banana republic. The Renewed Hope Agenda cannot thrive where institutions trample on court judgments.

“It is our hope that the chairman of INEC shall preserve his earned honour and respect as the head of election matters of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at this critical time,’ the party added.

  • NNPP denies members’ defection to ADC in Katsina

NNPP denies members’ defection to ADC in Katsina

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), says no any of its Chairmen across the 34 local government areas in Katsina State has defected to the coalition ADC or any party.

The NNPP State Chairman, Alhaji Armaya’u Abdulkadir, stated this in a statement issued in Katsina on Monday.

According to the NNPP chairman, their local government chairmen have not defected to any party in the state.

He said that their attention has been drawn to some publications made in some media organisations and circulated in the social media.

Abdulkadir said, “The attention of the NNPP Katsina chapter has been drawn to some publications made in some media organisations and circulated in the social media.

“The publication revealed that 34 NNPP local government chairmen have defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“The defection, as it was reported, was through the former Secretary to the state government, Alhaji Mustapha Inuwa in Katsina State.

“It is on record, however, that some of our chairmen, after the 2023 presidential elections, defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

“Thus, these same people are the ones that defected to the ADC from the APC. Therefore, their defection was from APC, not from NNPP”.

  • NNPP explains absence from Lagos LG election

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has explained why it is not fielding candidates in Saturday’s local government council election in Lagos State.

The election is being held across the 20 local government areas(LGAs) and 37 local council development areas (LCDAs) in the state.

Speaking with NAN, the NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Mr Ogini Olaposi, described the decision as regrettable but necessary, citing limited options available to the party at the time.

“We regret to inform all members of our great party, that it is indeed most unfortunate and regrettable that despite the double victory judgments we received, we could not put our house in order for effective campaigns and participation.

“In the build-up to the election, we were still immersed in internal wrangling, following the move by the Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso -led group to hijack the leadership of the NNPP,” Olaposi said.

He further explained that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s failure to update the party’s official records worsened the situation.

“We were also delayed by the inability of INEC to amend our old records and upload our authentic National Working Committee (NWC), led by Dr Agbo Major, on its server,” he said.

According to Olaposi, these setbacks made it impossible for the NNPP to field candidates for the local government election — a first since the party was founded and registered in 2001 by Dr Boniface Aniebonam.

Olaposi noted that there was nothing so much to worry about as issues of logo and leadership had been resolved.

“It was on the strength of the issues that after an emergency meeting of the NEC on Friday in Abuja, we decided to direct our members in Lagos, led by Mrs Anikè Adebowale (state chairman) on which party to vote for.

“To effectively win in an election, you must not just fill in candidates, you should also be ready for serious campaigns in all wards and areas of the election which we did not do.”

Olaposi said that in spite of the current challenges, the party leadership had urged members to support a party that shares a similar political ideology with the NNPP.

Fifteen out of the 28 registered political parties are participating in the election.
